  • Picking up from last week, when we don’t understand our connection to Christ from all scripture, we learn the bad habit of faking our faith. We pretend to love church and the things of God because we don’t want to feel left out. If you are tired of this feeling and want to truly see the Bible for what it is, God’s living words, Jon helps start this conversation in today’s episode.

What seems worse for me is knowing The Word of God. Believing it. All of it. But I struggle believing His grace has been extended to me. I feel unworthy and I know we all do. But the thought is constant that "Yea, this is all truth, it's just not for you." And I'm scared that I'm not elect and that I have a head knowledge but no heart knowledge of The Word of God.

Hey, I know exactly what you mean. I too struggled with these exact same thoughts, so want you to know you are not alone. Many other Christians seem to struggle as well.
I have been told by my pastor that satan can take what is supposed to be a comforting doctrine(election) and make us afraid. I know other people are able to find comfort in it but I find it difficult. I've read that we shouldn't try to discern our election apart from Christ. We can't go into heaven as they say and see His hidden will, but what is revealed is that Jesus came to save sinners, of which you and me are. They always trying to point me to Christ, to look to Him, He will never cast someone out who comes to Him. I believe Lord, help my unbelief. Look to Christ :) where else can you go? He alone has the words of eternal life. Keep seeking and praying.

Oh yes. I know what you mean. I'm in the same boat, but I know God is faithful. I remind myself that He is just, wise, and faithful.

Jesus has saved us if we believe the Gospel. Great news!

9:25+ "The Truth that destroys satan and all that he can do."
    SO IMPORTANT!
I had to learn this the hard way!

Its like what Obi-Wan Kenobi once said 'your eyes can deceive you, don't trust them.' For we walk by faith and not by sight. :)

You get on some good points. I would add as well that the Confessional and Reformed need to take a fresh look at the sacraments. Far too many in the Reformed camp have bought into the lie of Zwingli in their zeal to avoid being Roman Catholic. As a Lutheran, I can tell you that sacramental efficacy has done wonders in me not having to look for God,in places where he has not promised to be.

When confessions become our guide to the Scriptures, rather than the other way around, then man's word, rather than God's Word becomes our light.
Paul himself praised those who didn't take his word, but searched the Scripture to see if he was right.

You should do some research. Confessions teach exactly what you just stated. They are statements of faith, no authority but the Bible

@@THEOCAST that is correct. Confessions themselves state that the confessions should not be our guide to Scripture.
"The Rule of this Knowledge, Faith, and Obedience, concerning the worship and service of God, and all other Christian duties, is not man's inventions, opinions, devices, laws, constitutions, or traditions unwritten whatsoever, but only the word of God contained in the Canonical Scriptures."
But in my 30+ years of following Christ, the majority of people that are confessional, look to their confession to interpret Scripture.
There are several wonderful confessions, but my statement wasn't about what confessions say, but about what many who are "confessional" practices.
And yes, I'm well aware of the difference between Sola and Solo Scriptura🙂👍.
Perhaps you misspoke, as I often do. I love many of the things I hear in these podcasts, and have shared several with others as an encouragement to them. I'm not trying to troll, I almost never comment on anything online, but I bristle when I hear confessions placed over Scripture, whether intentionally or not.
Perhaps I should have remained silent as usual. But there is a reason why our church is not confessional, while we still use a few confessions and statements to say "we closely align with this, though we may differ in some secondary points".
      The Lord knows.
I'm sure I will keep tuning in from time to time as I'm able. Keep exalting Christ!
