  • The 2018 Toyota Tundra 1794 might not have all the pizzazz newer pickups have, but it still is a very reliable pickup with plenty of luxury and a solid, proven powertrain. Watch Tim talk about the pickup and its faults. He would know. He used to own one.

    The 1794 is my favorite, I really want it. It mixes luxury and work perfectly.

    I just bought a 2019 Tundra TRD 1794 in the Mesquite Brown. I love this truck it rides smooth and fits all my needs. I’m a bow hunter and fisherman but when it’s time to go out on the town I have recieved a lot of compliments on this truck.

    I know that I will never on a new vehicle with start / stop technology. I think it's ridiculous! The 6.2 liter Chevy gets great mileage and is awesome but there are quite a few complaints on forums with issues on these trucks. The Tundra is pretty even with V8 trucks before the cylinder deactivation .

    I want one but I kind of want to wait for the redesign. Heard some great things. But I wouldn’t mind the 5.7. It is a bullet proof engine.

    Another thing is the Tundras seem to be the most reasonably priced trucks available right now... Even the 1794 is reasonable compared to the Brands

      They really are I just bought a brand new 2019 TRD Offroad with most of the bells and whistles for $37k. Considering we traded in my 17 Tacoma and got $31k $1k less then what we paid for it even with 12k miles and 2 years on it they also hold their value extremely well.

    How would you compare the adaptive cruise of these 2018 Tundras to new gen f150s? I know one difference is the fords (and newer tundras) can come to a complete stop and resume, but other than that does it work just as well?

    Anyone can talk a lot of junk about certain brands. Picking on others / products, that's easy. Generations in my family own Ford trucks / cars and they live by it. They will not change. I bought a new 2018 Tundra Crew Max 1794 Edition and they all said i broke the family rule. I don't buy b/c the family wants me to. I like my Tundra and with over 60K, it never broke, not once and it runs great. That says something. Maybe the family generation should change their rule. To me it's money well spent.

      I think brand loyalty is not as strong as it once was. I see a lot of different brands selling these days with good volume. New buyers seem more willing to take a risk.

    Nice truck. I have no interest in all the "Safety Sense" garbage. I've been driving for 34 years (12 years as an OTR Truck Driver), have driven from one end of this country to the other many times. I have never needed blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control or any of that stuff. I stay aware of my surroundings at all times and actually drive my vehicle. I look before I pass and actually pay attention at all times while driving. Dont need the truck to drive for me.

    No spray in bed liner from factory

    • @cnoyes72
      @cnoyes72 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's normally a port installed option. Chevy doesn't have a spray-in from the factory, either. Not sure about Ford, Ram or Nissan, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is the same for them as well.

    Most truck manufacturers have start/stop, cylinder deactivation, or some kind of technology to increase MPG, why does the tundra not have it? Or how is it able to not be required to have it. Always thought it was CAFE standards that made manufacturers include those options.

    • @Pickuptrucktalk
      @Pickuptrucktalk  6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      All the tricks to improve MPG, like you listed, aren't required by CAFE. They aren't mandated at all.
      Toyota doesn't offer those things on the Tundra because it does not see fuel economy being a top concern for its customers. It is one of the purchase reasons, but it isn't the most important. They would rather focus on reliability over fuel economy. You simply get better reliability if you have less parts which the stop/start, cylinder deactivation and turbochargers add.
      Now, keep in mind, Toyota does offer both stop/start and turbochargers on other vehicles. Just not the Tundra. Price is a concern here as well.
      They also get around CAFE because they can use credits obtained by selling the Prius to offset Tundra sales.
