While the world of PC Gaming still is a bit weary of the effect Phones are having on gaming as a whole, it is interesting to think how the two platforms inherently have radically different approach at the same problems. I think as the generations who come online with a Phone rather than a PC become older we are going to see more interesting overlaps in these companies and their strategies.
But I also think there should be "Gaming" phones that had gamepads on them so what do I know?

True. For desktops AMD offers more value for most of the users for the money but OEM's are slow at incorporating Ryzen in their desktops because of the customer its familiarity with the Intel branding. I compared the number of desktops for the 7700k and the 8700k with all of Ryzen: it is rouglhy equal if you take the 7700k or 8700k separately. Crazy, isn't it? I am curious how this will change if the Zen2 CPU's outperform the Intel CPU's. I expect that OEM's still will use Intel for at least 50% of their desktops.
For laptops AMD has the problem that the power consumption of laptops with a Ryzen CPU is a bit too high. I don't know to what extend the microcode, BIOS and software (Windows power profiles) and to what extend the hardware causes it but the battery drains faster. Roughly 6 hours vs 8 hours for a comparable load. If you watch a lot of videos with the laptop then Intel has an advantage with the integrated graphics.
Just a year ago I had to buy a laptop, I wanted to buy one with an AMD APU(to get the market healthy) but I would have to pay $100 more and the battery life was half while the OEM's were slow at releasing updated drivers for the integrated graphics (the day1 drivers were not good). The OEM (Acer) or retail (higher profit margin for AMD?) seems to have charged too much, at the end of 2018 the price got $100 lower while the one with an Intel CPU got $200 more expensive (Intel its problems with delivering CPU's). My next desktop will highly probably contain a Ryzen 3600(X) or 3700(X) and I will assemble it myself. I will also upgrade to a Navi *80 if it doesn't disappoint, currently I have an HD 7850 and I want that 1440p gaming so I skipped the RX 480.

      @@gureguru4694
Unfortunately you are probably correct about that, for at least 95% of the PC users. The 'enthusiasts' know better and say these days: AMD if you want more value for the money, Intel if you want the very best and you are willing to pay a lot for it. After all, there is no point in buying an i5-8400 for your desktop (the 2600(X) simply gives more value per $ , though I consider the 8400 to be the best value/$ from Intel at the moment) but a 9900k can be a solid choice if you are willing to spend that much extra and you can afford it.
With "affording it" you also have to take into account when you will be able/willing to upgrade it again after having spent all that money and to some extend you have to take into account that there is an upgrade path on a X370/X470/B450 motherboard (I delibeately leave out the B350). To some extend because eventually you will want to get the better interfaces, I/O and DDR5 but it is nice if you can for example first upgrade the CPU (not get 100% out of it) and upgrade the motherboard 1 or 2 years later etcetera. For me anyway.

Formerly an Intel guy. I still love Intel, but AMD Ryzen products were too much of a steal for me to not use, so I moved on....and it's great. I don't think I would ever suggest an Intel device if AMD keeps this up. It'd be awesome if this forces Intel to compete with their prices and performance as well.

Build quality is one of the things that make me more willing to buy a more expensive product.
Plastic is UNACCEPTABLE on these all-in-one smartphones designed to go absolutely everywhere with you which takes 80% of all budget and mid-range phones out of consideration, and the recent addition of glass-backs is the worst thing that could have possibly happened to premium phones like Galaxy S7/8/9/10 and iPhone 8/X/XS/XR.
I’m still on an iPhone SE in my 2nd year of using it because of the perfect size for one-handed use and pleasant anodized aluminum finish.
I love many things about the XR, but that glass back has me longing for an iPhone SE successor that has an XR-style edge-to-edge screen but has an aluminum back (which removes wireless charging but is so much more comfortable and durable)

I choose the product which is more democratic. I configure my own pc and buy laptops that are upgradable. I boot windows and linux depending on my use case. I dont buy costly phones as upgrade in a year or two helps me stay updated and I root the phones so that the phone is according to my needs.
If more people went this way companies will have to keep innovating to stay relevant atleast in hardware.

    • @go9565

For phones its just a hobby to tinker with the os and personalize the os according to my requirements.
And my computers do make me money as majority of my work is on computers, so for me it pays to do this.

    • @sodalitia
      @sodalitia 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Products are neither democratic or undemocratic. It's a stupid thing to say, because nobody is voting here. Products are not running in any election and all the products are made in communist china anyways. You are just applying a random word to your preference of customization and confuse consumer options with some ill defined political terms. If products were "democratic" people would choose iphones anyways, because majority are crowd and crowd is stupid.

    • @avocatdelamusique9778
      @avocatdelamusique9778 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

They simply generate enough revenue from ads so the phone could be cheaper for the end-user, albeit a bit too intrusive in the end. There are ad phones out there, which are significantly cheaper than their normal counterparts simply because they could receive the difference in pricing pretty quickly. In theory, you need to watch ads all over the phone, let it be wallpaper, lock screen, various other tasks, though they are far more forgiving and won't interrupt whatever you're doing at the same time as you're seeing ads.
Moreover, prebuilt apps also generate revenue for them, because this is barebones advertising, since a lot of people will launch that app regardless of it's usefulness.

In my thought in spite of questioning a reliable future invention of high performance electronic computing hardware as part of strategic innovation most competing consumer electronic companies may often found a way to generate their own strategic monetization for selling their invented devices in terms of labor, professional fee, research and production, and mostly their long-term basic needs.
Just as in the past, they started in inventing low-end basic computing performance on most classic devices from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and so on until our present time. In order to improve more, they need more funding, not only just as I mentioned above but also they also need to upgrade their facility in order to enhance the quality of inventing their devices to the consumers.

"more creative with pricing" because most consumers are n00bs. That also is a problem with laptops and desktops from OEM's: a $200 graphics card on top of it => $350 extra on the price, $100 extra of RAM or Storage => $200 extra on the price. It sucks. You can easily assemble your own desktop, assembling your laptop is a lot more difficult, also because you can't easily buy all the parts.

When it became necessary recently to buy a new cellphone (my 5 yr old Droid Razr HD stopped recognizing SIM cards when we changed providers) I bought the Moto e5, *unlocked*, for around $130. It does what it needs to do (make and receive phone calls, keep addresses and notes) at an affordable price, and I'm not *excessively* tied to someone's ecosystem (hello Apple).
My PC acquisitions are different. I usually re-purpose used equipment, and run Linux; the laptops being made these days are too flimsy in construction and lacking in connectivity/expandability. And my next desktop system will be my own custom build, since the mid-towers you get from the big-box stores or direct (from Dell, etc) are taking too many clues from the cellphone makers and using too many proprietary/specialized parts. I miss my old InWin Q500 case.

I think this is the proper place to make this question. (You have already talked about it but I'm interested in what you audience thinks )
I do not want to spend a lot in a phone. If I want to go "premium" im thinking of getting the OnePlus 6t, this for me it doesn't make any sense, money-wise. The alternative is to buy the Poco F1.
From these two phones should I expect that they will work good enough for 2-3 years?

A little criticism: Google will liscense you the Google Apps for private use. People using Custom Roms with Google Apps will know that.
PC "Chips" are not that much different from mobile ones in the sense that you described. While it is yrue that Intel liscenses their x86 Architecture pretty much just to AMD there is real competiton and AMD has significant Marketshare. Both manufacturers also use different sockets and Chipsets. And while there is more differentiation in manufacturers on the arm-side the architecture stays the same. So on both the arm and the x86 side you got various different processors from different manufactuers, that still run basically any application for that Plattform.
Also Qualcom and Samsung would sell you a single chip. Small scale Tech manufacturers buy low quantitys all the time, it is just more expensive. Also besides Prototyping there is not much use for a non-socketed processor. However with the spread of arm Servers that might change.

    It's all about upscaling,
You've got a few dollars of plastic,
A few dollars of chips, boards,
few dollars of screen and cameras
few dollars of speaker, amp, and headphones,
and a few dollars worth battery.
The biggest expense is the army of marketing specialists and programmers and engineers.
This is also why lots of staff can make a great app but one person designing will be a more niche / rugged exp.

I've been subscribed to your channel for quite a while, I'm one of those computer software nerds that really doesn't understand the industry and your videos are a godsend for people like me; never the less, this is the first time I am commenting.
Just wanted to point out that your partnership with thelowspecgamer is a match made in heaven, his channel coupled with yours is kryptonite to a software uncultured swine like me. Hoping to see more partnerships from you too in the future.
This comment was written in a garbage Huawei that cost less than 100 euros, but the quality of the video still made me feel like commenting.
