Yeah people act like OEMs take a few weeks to make a device. Once a process is started they cannot necessarily cancel it outright.
Plus processors, parts etc, have to be stocked, and RnD work done. It's why the pixel phone's shipped with Soli anyways, despite it not functioning well. They'll scrap it in the next flagship or possibly improve the technology.
(That's why I actually liked pixel 4 as a concept, google was improving, but didn't get cost efficiency down)

The most important thing is you; control what information you put out there and what information your devices track as much as you can.
Avoiding the likes of Google and FB spying on you is near impossible. Preventing others from getting unauthorized access is about getting smart about the threats out there and not treating the internet like your best friend. Largely in your hands, partially in companies' hands (that they don't get hacked) :/

I think it's also important to consider the believability factor. People don't trust manufacturers. You expect nothing but marketing bs from them. How often do you go to a manufacturers site for info about a product as opposed to going to a third party? Even if the source of the leak is official, news articles with the word "leak" are believed more. They imply having information you weren't supposed to know, something different than the official launch. This way they can reach more people.

You also forget that leaking star features hold the customer back from purchasing another phone and wait for the leaked phone. Personally, I think it's a very good PR strategy followed by Xiaomi/Redmi, oppo, realme and others here in South and South East Asia.
Also sometimes the phone may not be completely ready making it not possible to launch, so companies take to prelaunch and teaser campaigns. This is what I believe happened during the launch of realme XT and Redmi Note 8 Pro.

The only phone without leaks was the original iPhone. Everyone had to sign contracts that worked on it if there was a leak they would be sued. Hardware and software teams were kept separated. Parts went into production but they were not assembled til after the presentation. Plus cases and accessories were not even thought of at that time. Still it almost was leaked when an executive at Apple had it fall out of his pocket and was left on an airplane. He ran back frantically asking for the device but he couldn’t say it was a phone and had to describe it and they had no idea what they were looking for.

Now I have an idea. What if there'd be a smartphone manufacturer that lets their community decide and/or suggest the specs of their upcoming devices. And the smartphone manufacturer would interact with their community, and allow bootloader unlocking.
    What do you guys think?

4:50 I think Google just decided to not care about leaks. I'm kinda hoping they are just trolling everyone and it'll be completely differently.

Even companies like Apple leak. They are very anti-leak in their rhetoric, however, leaking things like the lack of headphone jack on the iPhone 7 and the notch on the iPhone X gives the tech community and the general interested public plenty of time to have their initial reactions and to discuss it to death. By the time the announcement is made and the product released, people have somewhat made their peace with it. It also gives the product marketing team and PR team time to gauge the initial reaction and strategically plan out the best way to roll it out.
