    The navigation features on the Garmin Forerunner 245 are very impressive. These features include save location via GPS, a live course map that allows pan and zoom, and the ability to quickly Tracback if you get lost.
    How to save a location on the Garmin Forerunner 245:
    1. Hold down the Light button to open the control menu
    2. Select the red map pin icon. If you don’t have this icon, you can add it by going back to the control menu options. You should see Wait for GPS while it processes your location.
    3. Once the GPS has finished, you should see your GPS coordinates. Select the start button to save the location.
    4. Edit the Name and Icon under Edit.
    How to setup and use navigation on the Garmin Forerunner 245:
    1. Select an activity from the activity list and select Start.
    2. Once the activity opens press the up button to open the options.
    3. In the options scroll and select Navigation
    4. In Navigation you can select Back to Start, Courses, Activities, and Save Locations

    Hi. Nice vidéos. The well-explained I’ve seen. Just a question about navigation. At 5:02 There ´s a black arrow at the bottom of the screen. Is it to indicate the next direction to take as the red arrow does ? Can we keep it during navigation ? (Cause I find it more practical) thanks

    Does this model not show features such as bodies of water on a trail but other Garmins etc do ? Or was it due to the kind of Route you programmed ? I'm looking for a GPS watch that is going to give me a bit more detail on the trail that I'm running. Cheers

    i skimmed through this video and didn't read any long-form text on this device but is it possible (or practical?) to use the GPS in this watch to get from home to work by car, or home to store by car? I'm trying to replace my smart phone with a flip phone and in looking for a dedicated GPS I mainly found ones that go for 100+ which is what I can get this watch for so I'm wondering if I can use this as a dedicated GPS.....Of course it looks cool and has other functions too so let me know if its impractical to use mainly for GPS car travel or not.

    I can't find any videos showing whether breadcrumb/worm navigation is any good in practice. I used to have the Vivoactive 4 with a third party plugin for this, but it was a hassle to load GPX files (basically all apps on Garmins platform are crap), so I would prefer the FR 245, yet nobody ever seems to have used it in practice on a bike ride. Very often, out in the fields, there aren't so many roads, so worm navigation might be just enough, is what I would think...

    • @bagcollectionlondon
      @bagcollectionlondon 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bread crumbs are eaten by the birds, H&G did nit fair well using this method. FR 245 tricky to use. Only use worm nav if all else fails, prone to burrowing deep and hiding info.

    really informative video. thanks. I've got a forerunner 945 - I haven't tried the navigation setting yet. I wanted to know if you can listen to the map instructions via AirPods rather than keep checking down on the phone for route instructions?

  • @badzpowazny8172
    @badzpowazny8172 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Cool video. Does the 245 have the function of adding points by MGRS (by phone or by watch) for navigation or only the path from the previous activity or GPX? I can't find any real information.

    • @bagcollectionlondon
      @bagcollectionlondon 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the mgrs can be reset from your phone, but please note this can only be done when in a locked bathroom. Turn off all tech and while singing your countries chosen national anthem.

  • @yvettesienkiewicz5552

    Does this work with setting up a course on roads? Knowing where and when to turn on the course seems confusing. Can you set up for a mileage amount, and not necessarily a location? ie: Asking it to set up a 5 mile out and back course from your home.

      @@onlyhuman2936 You can set it up on roads as well as off road trails (I’m in the UK, so for us it’s OS public foot path trails for off road routing) it’s far easier to use the Garmin connect app when creating maps. You can do this under the courses section within the app, where under the automatic option, Garmin will create a trail from a desired start point from a given distance and direction. Alternatively you can create your own course by plotting points on the map. Either option can then be saved to your watch / device.
      From personal experiences, it’s absolutely brilliant. Especially the automatic route option for walking / running etc. The only single downside, in my opinion, is the lack of a search feature on the app. I.e, if you wanted to create a walk in a location 200 miles away, you have to physically scroll and search on the map for the area, as there is no search bar.
      If you’re into serious hiking / trail walking, I would say that a hand held Garmin GPS device is better suited, as covers landmarks / rivers etc. Where the watch navigation doesn’t give you this (maybe on the higher end Fenix models)

      The easiest way is using the Garmin connect app on your phone. It has a Google maps type input that allows you to draw custom courses. Or you can walk the course while recording an activity, saving the activity will save the course.
