Great review - I have been loving my 245 Music (which I got due to availability rather than music capability!) ... I run mornings 6 days per week and would agree with the ~5 days of GPS usage - but I have yet to dip below ~7% battery. Thanks for all the other info - as a ‘run only’ person there is SO much capability I haven’t even touched yet!
Great review. Unbelievable how you can speak so fast, yet well audible, without making no mistakes and giving loads of important and very useful info. Wonderful. I have 1 question. Bluetooth data transfer is slow. I wonder if they use Wifi (instead of bluetooth) on the 245 music version to transfer "running data", making it faster. Or is Wifi only used for music?

I liked a lot the swim review. I didn’t know that is possible to see the rest times after finishing the workout without having to press the back button.
Thanks for a really in depth review. I actually just picked this up on sale today and mainly got it, as you said, to save me carrying my phone when walking, running, riding. The other main feature I was interested in was the GPS tracking so I could finally see how far I was walking and riding on some different routes I take. Very interesting to see so many other features are built in too.

The audio you have here is really great. I can hear your voice and what you're saying exceptionally clearly. And that's important for someone explaining things. Good work! :))) It sounds a _TOUCH_ off-centre, like you're maybe coming in on my right channel a touch more than my left, but I'm not sure if that's just me or not.

Great review and job (as always). This watch drive me to run again! I appreciate the functionalities that let me have a measure in my run and have some coaching. More the smart functions (notification, music) are fantastic! About the video, seems that the music at the beginning and the end is a bit to loud for me as I have trouble to hear your comments. Maybe your microphone is not as good as before. Nevertheless, you're amazing!

Fist: excellent video!! This is the second video I watch and the way you structure the information makes it not only clear but also goes exactly where I want to know (for me was the integration with Spotify hahah)
Second: yeah forget apple watch, Garmin 245 is THE ONE smart/fitness watch!! (The other video yours I watched was about the apple watch, and it was great btw)
Thanks for this very detailed review! Ordered this one today! I've been using a Fitbit charge 2 for ages. Now that I've been running a lot more I was looking for something new and more into depth. Also had the polar vantage m2 and the Garmin venu 2 on my watchlist (no pun intended), but I think the FR245 will be best for my needs. Can't wait!

@@SaltLifeGeo I really like it. I upgraded from a Fitbit Ionic. I have owned a Fitbit since the Ultra in 2011. It was a surprisingly easy transition.

@@sledgehammerlion I like it a lot better! I ended up selling my apple watch after a month of using the garmin. The maps are so much better and i feel like the metrics are more spot on. I ended up getting the music one but i never used it since i always had my phone on me anyways.
Ran the first time with it today. Big jump from the 235. Used them with the Airpods and not a single dropout. Built quality is excellent.
Do you have to have the Airpods case with you?

Hey Des. Like your review as always. The FR245 is probably the most popular Garmin watch ever. After more than 2 years since this review, has Garmin done any heart rate accuracy improvements? I have been anxiously waiting for this! Well done Des! I have an AW4 that I've had about a week. I am tempted to return it for the 245 music so I can gain the recovery, training effect, and HR zone alerts. I'm a fairly casual runner but being active military I have to maintain my conditioning year round. I feel like the Garmin would help me ensure I don't neglect running enough to lose performance.

I have just updated my AW4 to the WatchOS 6 and my iPhone to iOS 13 - there is a new trend feature build in, that gives you short and long term state of your workout - maybe hold your breath - you will probably love your AW (I do and run quite a lot)
@@DeeKay1911 I ended up returning it. The 245M is awesome, I love it. I do not miss the apple watch at all. For me, the apple watch was a toy, that happened to track fitness about as well as my old garmin 35. The 245M is a legitimate tool for a performance-driven runner looking for more in-depth data and insight.

Love your real-world reviews vs those who just summarize the features anyone can read in the Garmin sales brochure. The only thing missing on the 245 that would make this watch perfect is Garmin Pay. Looks like I'll still have to carry a credit card or cash with me if I want to stop for lunch or a cold drink along the way. :/

Great job with these Fitness Reviews man ! I've seen so many videos just talking about the watch and it's features, without any actual data about the workouts... Like I can't read the damn spec sheet myself. Well done and keep it up! I'm waiting for that Vivoactive 4 In-Depth review (with a gym session included, please :)) ). I'm really curious if the Vivoactive 4 properly registers the HR and the O2 when working out in the gym.
Thanks! I'll give you a head's up that the VA4 is going to be about the same as any Garmin wearable from the last year or two including the 245, which is to say it won't be super accurate for activities that involve a lot of wrist flexion or arm movement. This is just kind of the nature of wrist based heart rate sensors though and even external arm heart rate monitors can have challenges in this context, so for the most accurate heart rate just opt for a chest heart rate strap :)

Wow! Fantastic review. I have been researching this watch. I'm looking for Music, Step Tracker, Bike Tracker, Elliptical Tracker, Rowing Tracker and I want to be able to just scan my watch to enter the gym. And..... water proof. I don't swim much but I sweat a lot. I've viewed a bunch of videos but your review has been the best and most in depth with actual side by side comparison for accuracy. Great job and thank you.

Great review! I’m looking for a watch that will monitor my heart rate while doing CrossFit, tell me my steps while I go on hikes/walks and tracks my sleep. I do love the music aspect of this phone. Is there another watch that you would recommend that will fulfill my wants? So many smart watches out there! Thank you!
Awesome review! I'm looking to get a fitness tracker/smart watch. Nothing as hardcore as yours. Mainly road runs, gym classes such as HIIT or body weight strength training and everyday wear to keep track of my cals burned. Was thinking between the Instinct and 245. Which would you recommend? Also, have you had issues with skinburn? I been going through reviews and some say that the gramins caused skin burn due to the LED sensors or the charging ports.

In the market for a sports watch for my soon (15 years old). He is mostly into running and swimming. I watched your video on the Coros Pace 2 and now this one on the Garmin 245.
Great to see with both watches he could do the pool swimming.
The strength profiles for the Coros also great. Didn’t know you could do that with a watch.

Thanks for the upload., liked and subbed you, So I watched this video as love my music and riding etc, had apple watches frm the 1st , this 245music was $489 Aussie $ reduced to $269, and was one of few Garmin watches that had “multi device support and IOS was one of those, I i understand download watch faces isn’t supported by IOS, there was so many watch’s but this had the things I use daily as I ride mtb well..After watching this video you re-confirmed my thoughts on it, so that made my decision easy!
Keeping that in mind it still has better features I use over my S6 Nike+ Apple Watch, I was happy to get this watch and throw my Apple Watch at the back of my draw, no regrets at all for me..

Thanks for the elaborate FR245 review Des. Was waiting for that. Being an occasional triathlete I was wondering how this watch would fit me. My doubts are still there missing alt meter, open water swim and not having the possibility to sync with a Tri HR strap. Do you have any experience device apps like Triathlon Multi-Sport App? Could you ad the 45 in your 245 645 compare. Thanks
Very thorough review. Been using the 245 music watch for just over 6 months. I unfortunately didn't have a straight forward time getting Spotify to work initially, but once I got it going it was just ok for me. I found Garmin Express to be an easier experience. Grateful for the opportunity to have music on the watch, but there's certainly some opportunity to improve it.
