Majority of the reviews I've read for this game gave them such low scores because they haven't innovated with respect to its predecessor, yet every COD, AC, and sports game gets reviewed objectively without considering its previous game. I don't get it. I loved this game, Troy Baker is the man and he totally stole the show for this game.

If it's as good as Arkham City, then fine. Trouble is it is not. It has its spotlight, but totally lacks of polish. Most of the elements feel rushed.

Did you not understand the main purpose of the game? the last battle? lmao the whole plot was showing batman about the villains he creates, its called arkham origins for that very reason. arkham is the vault of monsters , lead by the most SANE(yeah, he is sane) lunatic to ever face the dark knight, Joker.

i felt that it should of had more deathstroke they built him up just to introduce him for one mission and drop him two face would of also been good i think it's on par with arkham city but like it better than asylum

GunStreets Because they thought they would have the new batman game out. Once they realized it was going to take longer, I guess Rocksteady (or the people behind rocksteady) decided to ask a different company to do a prequel to the Arkham series so it could still be kept fresh in everyones minds, not to mention pull in money from the series still. Because this game was still connected to the arkham series it was very unlikely it was going to be a flop and they advertised it well enough to get people excited about it. It's only been after everyone bought the game and played it that most people considered it pretty sub par, but still alright. Also instead of weakening the upcoming Arkham Knight game it's quite likely strengthened it because people are even more excited to see what Rocksteady are going to do since they are the orginal company behind the arkham series.

The title "Origins" isn't really misleading. It explains a lot of things about Arkham Asylum. Honestly, it was good in a lot of ways, but it never did escape the shadows of its previous games. It added a few new mechanics, but it just wasn't what people were expecting. Certain assassins that were advertised in the trailers were barely in the game at all and most of the game was spent fighting mainstream villains instead. That was the main deal-breaker for me.

So call of duty ghost rehashes the same product but a batman game with slight improvements gets a 7.8 but COD ghosts get a 8

I thought Origins had the absolute best story of the three. It forms the entire "hate you, but need you" dynamic between Batman and The Joker perfectly. While the infamous bridge did get obnoxious, overall this one was actually my favorite of the three.

I'm pretty open on a sequel to Arkham Origins. It takes place 5 years before Arkham Asylum so you have 5 years of Batman lore and origin stories to cover.
How about seeing Barbara Gordon becoming Oracle (The Killing Joke)
We could see Harvey Dent become Two-Face.
the development and "rise" of Harley Quinn.
Catwoman's origins, Poison Ivy's origins etc.
You could do quite a lot with an Arkham Origins sequel.
Batman origin. Make the first Act a Bruce Wayne act, where you see his parents die, him fighting in school, maybe beeing kinda vigilante with stopping a drug dealing in his school and going to Ra's. Then proceed as Batman.
Or you could just do a shitty 2.5D psvita game...

Of course there's nobody in the city, it's christmas eve, there's a curfew because of a massive snow storm and there's thugs and criminals all over the streets killing people and blowing shit up, I know I wouldnt go outside that night

I think the point in the review was that it seemed like a story device contrived in order to not have to put any civilians on the street.

For the record the boss fights are more a miss than a hit so that's y they didn't do any for knight which I get. While city are cool boss fights espicially the mr freeze fights and origins had an awsome deathstroke fight scene it wasn't like oh it's badass boss fights just oh there cool I guess but not memoriable.

That comment was just in general. Chances are nobodys going to be interested in this review if they haven't already played the others.
Lets all be honest...Of course Arkham City is better than Origins, it's better looking and it was WAY less buggy at launch. This was Warner Bros Montreals first shot at Batman, and it was really good considering they had to live up to what high standards Rocksteady has implemented on the Arkham games.
Arkham Origins didn't have Kevin Conroy which is a big deal for any Batman fans but they did a good job with Boss fight design and crime solving.
I'm hoping "Arkham World" or w.e Rocksteady is working on is their last game, not because I don't enjoy their batman games. But they have an amazing crew who should be challenged by making another DC game...they could totally make a GOOD Superman game.

Also, Gotham was always supposed to be a place with worsening crime and a corrupt system unable to handle things and crime doesn't really mean life should not be there in the city. Look at Batman returns(1992) Gotham .

well gameplay feels much smoother on arkham city than on arkham origins and it has way cooler predetor maps, but arkham origins truly captures the feel of being the dark knight at his earliest and does't involve so many supernatural side stories like A.c. did. It sticks with natural crime and I love it for it because that's what batman should do.(supernatural and space batman stories are good but they are not as good as the classics)

The thing that sets it apart from COD though is that it been a couple years since Arkham City, we expect a dramatic change in comparison to an annualized franchise like COD or AC. I don't play either of those anymore but I definitely expected more from Arkham Origins

Henry Tran You must remember that with franchises like CoD and AC, they have multiple teams that are working on the next installment, AC4 has been in production for about 2 1/2 years, even though it came out a little under a year from AC3. Same with CoD, Infinity Ward and Treyarch work about two years on their next installments. These devs are also very experienced. Arkham Origins was made by a dev founded in 2010, it also is trying to live up to one of the best super hero and combat games ever made. And they had about 2 years to do so. If this inexperienced dev had messed up anything about the Batman franchise, that could practical destroy them in the gaming community. So, with that in mind, I think it makes sense why we didn't see much of a difference, however the story is good and considering you can get the game for $25 on Steam right now, not a bad deal. Also with rumors that Rocksteady is working on another installment in the series, I imagine we can expect to see some big changes in that game to satisfy our worries.

Maybe Rocksteady passed the game along onto a small developer on purpose knowing they wouldn't live up to the name just so they can come back and really amaze us and make a huge impact. I hope thats what they did for God of War and Gears of War, cause Ascension and Judgment definitely did not live up to their respective franchises. ESPECIALLY JUDGMENT haha

The story takes place on Christmas Eve/Day. Everyone in the town was told to evacuate due to the Blackgate breakouts. The city seems lifeless? Everyone has either left Gotham or is at home celebrating Christmas. Usually when a city is evacuated because of prison breakouts and mass murderers on the loose, people aren't just chillin' in the streets.
I think IGN forgot that these are new developers! It's not easy taking over from 'rocksteady' after 'asylum' and 'city' ! I gotta hand it to the guys at 'WB montreal' for this good game!
This game is underrated, I loved playing as a more serious Batman. The boss battles and the story in this one are the best in the trilogy imo.
Guess I'm one of the few that liked Origins MORE than City (although I loved City as well).
same here. Both are good, but I liked origins more because of the replay value with "I am the night mode", the shock gloves, and the fact that I didn't have to spend 80% of the game trying to find Riddlers trophies, riddles, break penguins, find joker teeth, pop balloons, and break cameras lol.

Eric McBride Hell yeah, I was happy as hell when you only had to find 200 data packs ad break a few cameras lol. That fast travel was awesome too. I hope rocksteady takes some of those ideas and puts them into the new game.
Fast travel was great, but those data packs were a pain at times! And even though it was overpowered, I have to admit that those shock gloves did have moments where they saved my ass :-D

Man people have shitty tastes. This game isn't even nearly as bad as people say. It's not better than City (which is the only one I played other than this one) but it doesn't deserve the hate it gets. The only problems I have is that the city does feel significantly lifeless than City and the game has glitches, but thats it. The story was really good. Tied with City for me. It was nice to see Gordon and Batman build trust and also the connecting and slight banter between Bruce and Alfred.
Even though the city feels a a bit lifeless compared to city, there's more side missions like the crime cases. Plus the annoying side missions from Arkham City (I'm talking to you Zzass!!!) are gone. There's also quick travel. And the city isn't all dark and gloomy which I kind of appreciate after playing Arkham City.
My score is an 8.5. Great game overall and I extremely recommend this game. Don't let what people are saying push you away from this excellent title. Its not as bad as people say. Seriously.

gamerprince1999 I agree I got the game a few days ago and the story was great boss battles where great I had alot have fun especially playing as joker at that one scene and I give it 9.0-9.9
I hope they don't put multiplayer in other Batman games, it is pointless and wastes resources that they should be putting into the campaign.
There will be no multiplayer in the upcoming Arkham Knight which is also the final game of the series.

Arkham Origins ...snow...young ruthless batman, Christmas songs everytime, kinda hard fights in harder mode than other games so it's a masterpiece.
Lifeless city was worth negative 2.5? I would say its a minor con, I am not playing game to experience city simulation; Im playing for story and gameplay. The multiplayer was pointless though, so I give it a 9 out of 10.

my problems with the game:
1. deathstroke was a easy boss and a waste of hype.
2. bane breaks batmans back and he gets back up (seriously wtf) .
3. we never get to see Harley turn evil.
4. i kinda wanted robin or nightwing to introduced
5. the joker kinda came out of nowhere (this is kinda a me problem though)

Deathstroke should have definitely been a bigger part of the game, as well as Black Mask. I'm glad they introduced a younger Joker, but was greatly disappointed with how he fit into the game (Hope you know what I'm talking about... I hate giving spoilers =P). Also, Bane, seriously? I thought the fight was over when Bane snapped me on his knee. XP

Willie Wonker Regardless of the reason that they give, if I've learned anything from the countless comics I've read and the films I've seen of Batman, it's that you do not want to go out in the middle of the night in Gotham. If you do, then you're probably a criminal.

When people say that Origins lacks "new ideas"...I don't really see why there has to be any. The fact that it's a prequel states that it should have a downgraded version of Batman but the fact that it is a new game implies that it should have something new and those 2 facts contradict each other. People complain when they see something and say for example "How come he has this advanced-badass-gadget here and he does not have it in City? It's a plothole". People really have to make their minds up.

I just wish that this game tried to be like the Batman games, but was too much like them. For example, the Lady Shiva mission is exactly like the (spoilers) blood trail to Ra's Al Ghul.

Did anyone else find that the countering in this game wasn't very good? It seems like enemies can begin and connect their attack while you are in the middle of a different attack making it so that there was no possible opportunity to counter. Don't say it's just because I suck, I platinum'd both of the previous Arkham games, and I know that something is off with the combat for this game

This game could have been much better if they had done to Deathstroke what they did to cat woman, and gave him cut away story potions in the main story. I also think the biggest problem with this game was the open world didn't feel like Gotham, it just felt like a bunch of big shapes holding groups of thugs. I think Arkham Knight will improve that a lot.

If it wasn't for the glitches and the worse combat people would have loved this game.
For me, its not just that. I like the game, but its so different from what i loved about the other games (not counting the brilhant gameplay). The atmosphere is way more creepy and scary in the other games, its more mature and less obvious. its kinda hard to explain but its just not the same for me. (also, the punch sounds are a lot better in city)
Evaquiel I like it despite the glitches. The Batcave, Batwing fast travel and, actually having Alfred in the game were great. Also the new enemy types and seeing more of Gotham City.
Charlie12241 Couldn't agree more. If they had spent longer making the game and made a new combat system, along with crushing all of the bugs, this game could have been much better than it is. That being said, I still enjoyed playing it

Just so you know, the developers did say that they were going to put in the good gadgets from Arkham City. They didn't want to put in crappy gadgets just to fit the time of the story.

What the hell IGN. I just finished this game and while yes it is largely a remodeling of the Arkham City formula, it introduces a neat story as well a a fresh take on new and existing characters which any true Arkham fan will appreciate. A solid game.

There's a glitch on my (360) copy of the game that prevents me from interrogating Riddler's informants. After defeating a crowd of henchmen, the guy just stands there cowering in fear, untouchable to me. Does anyone have this issue?

This game is amazing, it deserves a nine. I feel like people were to hard on it as it was not made by Rocksteady. The only problem with the game was a lifeless city, so you took it down to a 7.8? Arkham city had a lifeless city yet you gave that game a 9.
The Deathstroke fight is the best Arhkam fight, hands down
This game could of been really great if it actually focused more on these assasins trying to kill Batman. Croc and Deathstroke were taken out so early. Electricutioner was just... sigh and i believe the rest are side missions. Also, even though it was a epic reveal, I kinda wish Black Mask was the ACTUAL main villain instead of it being Joker. Seems to me, Warner Bros montreal wernt that confident in their story telling, unless they add in Joker.
That Deathstroke DLC was pretty disappointing. It felt more like I was playing red robin from Arkham City, And the gameplay was very buggy and not very polished.
Is this a terrible batman game? Of course not. It was enjoyable. But its not on City's level. I believe the score is pretty fair. Personally, i would have given it a 6.

The reason it is called 'Arkham Origins' is obvious. It is the story of how the overthrow of Blackgate, police corruption + influx of dangerously insane criminals lead to the building of Arkham Asylum. (All explained in DC Comics.) The fact the reviewer didn't know this shows he clearly just breezed through the main campaign, not paying attention to the backstory or doing any of the extra content.
I still agree that this is not as good as the previous two games though. The major reason is the bugs, this game is so damn glitchy! I can't remember any significant bugs in Arkham City, where there were way too many annoying ones in this game.
Then hint the future for Arkham Asylum instead of a single voice log in the end credit. Where's Quincy Sharp? Where's Hugo Strange? Where's Crane? Except that voice log that most people will miss, I don't see the possibility of such development.

This is the best batman game imo....and yes that includes knight.....origins has the best boss battles, a great story, I loved the fact u are the hunted instead of the hunter because of the bounty, and even adding in the bat cave to go back to made me actually feel like batman......arkham knight should have been called arkham, the night of the batmobile, because even though it's fun driving it, it felt like rocksteady got so caught up with including it that they forgot the more important stuff like the boss fights for instance. Batman has a great rogues gallery, but instead we are hiding from tanks and shooting them from behind......sorry but the deathstroke battle alone in origins topped any fight in knight easily I might add

asylum, definitely. They change/add a lot (gameplay wise) from asylum to origins, and it would feel like you're taking a step back to go from asylum to origins

Is this worth buying? I was planning to buy a pack with Asylum and City and I found another with the 3 games for a little bit more money and I just wanted to know if it worths that little money or I shall buy the package with just 2

Am I alone in experiencing a big load of issues with the multiplayer? It crashes like 5 times a day and trying to get into a game comes with a lot of error messages. (I play on PS3 - europe)
It's not that bad, guys, although it did rely heavily on Arkham City to springboard off of and there were some cool easter eggs once you clear through the entire game

I'm forming an essay about Arkham Origins. I want to write about how beautiful and brilliant this game is, and how its subtleties seem lost on many gamers. It's not as perfect as Arkham City, but it makes up for it with its simmering boil, it's onion skin layers, and it's brutal, younger Batman.
One thing this reviewer says that I vehemently challenge is how the title is a misnomer. After completing the game, finding all collectables, and taking cracks at the I Am the Night mode (after a long break, I've returned for my fourth attempt - wish me luck!), this is brilliantly, hauntingly, gorgeously an origin story on many levels. It sets the stage for all that is to come. It loops back cleverly over ideas and places that will transform later. It reminds me in some ways of Back to the Future 2, when Marty climbs the rafters above his other self on stage. No, it's not as showboaty as singing Johnny B. Goode, but it hits on a deeper, more thought-provoking level.
Damn I can write forever about this game. Eventually I'll get around to writing that essay...

I might be too late, but just in case you're still trying to complete the I am the knight mode here's a little tip. If you are about to die you can either turn the console off quickly or quite the game in the pause menu. Once you load up the game in the main menu you'll be back at your last checkpoint
Highbudget It's a great tip, and one that I should have thought of before my last death. Thank you, though! I'll remember that the next time I'm on that rooftop with Bane. The tricky part is being sure to hit pause before it's too late, because that guy can knock out some serious health quickly if I'm not careful.

Highbudget And, I don't know if it's because I've spent so much more time in Origins with its story and tone, but I'm actually drawn more to it than I am to Arkham Knight. I love Arkham Knight. My jaw still drops while I'm playing the game from its utter coolness, but there was something indelible about Origins that is grossly underestimated by the fans.
This was a great game. There are three main (yet very weak) reasons why this game takes a backseat in the Arkham series. 1) It wasn't officially developed by Rocksteady. 2) The gameplay was essentially a carbon copy of AC (is that really such a bad thing?). 3) No Conroy/Hamill. It is true that nobody can ever amount to that duo but Roger Craig Smith (Ezio freaking Auditore) and Troy Baker are both remarkable voice actors, even if they aren't yet the deified like the other two. Also, this was one of the deepest and most compelling Joker/Batman stories ever written. That scene where we got to dive into his head was incredible. You truly get a roundabout perspective on their whole relationship. Other small things like the badass batsuit, nice Deathstroke implementation, and an awesome Bane performance made this game a charm, and really the only game that I thoroughly enjoyed in 2013. 9/10

I finished this game last night and it was honestly pretty well done. I wanted to complete it before i started arkham knight and i'm glad that i did. The story here is pretty interesting and for the most part the gameplay is pretty fun

I noticed that freeflow is off in that enemies attack quicker. In the older games, I could punch 3 goons before the one that was attacking could land a hit, but in this one I would try that kind of Batman stunt and get punched. The camera also flounders, making seeing someone wind-up a punch invisible. Also, enemies lying on the ground about to pass out will have the "dizzy" animation over their head. This consistently broke my combo because I'd try to ground takedown the enemies, only to find they were passing out.
Honestly, the combat was really lacking for me in this game, which is odd because I excelled at in in the other ones.
Personally, I prefer this Batman over the other two. Not by leaps and bounds or anything but I do prefer it.
