Thanks for the spotlight Eck! Rise of the Mandalorians is nearly complete and then I will return to finish this mod, including making the shaders compatible with Steam (and will release on the Workshop). Can't wait!
In the meantime, this old release will work correctly for anyone who has the retail/disk version of the game.
Do you have any specific plan for this mod or is it too early to tell?
Do you have any timetable for Rise of the Mandalorians or is it just "It's done when it's done"?
@@thomaskhan2933 I work on RotM completely by myself so its mostly a "It's done when it's done" situation. However I can confirm that Galactic Conquest is mostly done. All that is left now is to make maps for all the new planets.
@@faisalfarooq6967 So far, the plan is to set the mod around the time of First Strike. I feel that this period really defines Halo well. Its the height of the war and the "classic" Halo CE feel that we all fell in love with. So, unit rosters and available technology will reflect that. I'm also going to avoid Halo Wars as much as possible. Not because I despise the game but because many of the units just didn't feel "Halo" to me. I really want the mod to feel like Halo CE from a top-down view.
@@JefferyCheney Okay awesome! I've been playing the skirmish mode on Steam and I just want to congratulate you on the amazing job you've done with this mod.
UPDATE: I spoke to the_farseer, dev of the mod and he confirmed that he does in fact intend to return and finish the mod. Also, the green seems due to a shader issue.

Shame it is only on ModDB, but as he intends to continue maybe a steam version?

Hey FYI, don't forget to look at custom maps when you play mods ;) I have an Installation 04 map with props and custom skybox.

14:00 Yes. Ensemble did do Halo Wars. Bungie was ironically not very interested in helping them out, even though Bungie was envisioning Halo to be an RTS in the first place!
Actually it was because Halo Wars was never meant to be a halo game in the first place, Microsoft just turned it into one. That lead to a lot of hostility between Ensemble and Bungie. Ensemble showed the original version of the game to Microsoft who basically responded: Yeah this is cool and all but turn it into a halo game or you're all fucking fired. And they never got Bungie's permission to do so. And then they decided to close ensemble down later on anyways.
@@themrfives But why didn't Bungie just realize that this was an opportunity to finally have an RTS game in Halo, something they have always planned for, and helped them out instead of acting like a bunch of sour asswipes? Could their egos not allow another company to handle their IP or something?
Pedro Kantor No, like I said Microsoft never got bungie’s permission to do it. And project phoenix wasn’t originally going to be a halo game. Microsoft forced Ensemble to turn it into one without getting Bungie’s permission first. So Bungie saw it as Microsoft whoring out the franchise, passing it off to different developers regardless of whether or not Bungie wanted them to.

@@pedrokantor3997 Destiny isn't a shitty cash grab loot and shoot. The game got much better. You just don't hear about that because there's much more money to be made in shitting on a company when they fuck up than pointing out when they redeem themselves. Also if you look into a lot of the behind the scenes stuff it looks like bungie was just trying to keep Activision off their backs rather than being greedy. Their engines editor massively slowed down progress forcing them to resort to microtransactions in order to meet Activision's profit quotas. If they didn't meet those profit quotas Activision could sue them or just straight up take money from Bungie to cover the loss.

Halo lore wise, a elite is a commander of a squad of grunts in the field. Such a cool thing the cov basic infantry is 1 elite and a few grunts

The way alot of the units look and their composition makes it look like they were pulled directly from Halo Wars.
This looks like a very great mod! The aesthetic is perfect with a great inspiration from CE plus 2 and 3, I know it came out back in 2012 or so, so it wouldn’t have much new halo style stuff to work off but I hope it sticks with the classic stuff keeping with the Human covenant war, especially with a CE feel, hoping it gets an update soon!

Honestly, the balance issues are fine with me, at the beginning of the Human-Covenant War, the UNSC was extremely outclassed.

Another Halo mod for EAW is Covenant at War. It's gone un-updated for even longer than this one and it's only got space combat, but it does it really well (in my opinion).
I remember this mod way back when. If I remember correctly it's easy to fix the shader issue. Just delete the folder. And Halo Wars 1 is amazing!

I have that texture issue with most older EAW mods(Stargate EAW 1.3 especially). If I remember correctly, they updated how textures are read, the type of file specifically, and won't read older textures anymore. Again, iirc.
Also, I would LOVE to see you and Corey do a 1v1 Skirmish in this!

Wow this mod does look awesome, it does give a proper Halo CE feel. I also agree that RTS does not work well when designed for consoles. I think they should design Halo Wars 3 around the PC and then try to get it to work on Xbox similiarly to what C&C Kanes Wrath and LOTR BFME2 did rather than vice versa.
Hey Eck, there is a Halo space mod but it is a seperate mod to the ground battles mod, it is on moddb. There is also a Mass Effect mod that I think is worth checking out although the ground battles are a little buggy, at least for me.
So there is a Space Combat Halo mod. Are there any plans on combining these mods into a GC?
Last time I played this mod, weapon textures and menu background were there. Perhaps it was the multiplayer update that broke them.

There is a new halo mod in the works for EaW but its mostly just showing off screenshots for their work along with new models from current Covenant War lore ships and vehicles

The guy who made this mod is a FANTASTIC 3D Artist and a great modder, the mod just dislikes the Steam version of the game. When Rise of the Mandalorians releases you should check it out that will give the public a far fairer view of his most recent works

It survived! Halo Mods never survive! Unless they are very lucky like Homefront for homeworld which is the best halo ship RTS mod... but homeworld is small-time so I guess Microsoft left it alone.

There are two good skirmish mods....one for space and one for land

both were pretty much dead in development a few years ago XD
it was not until a few months ago that people got that Halo urge to restore these mods
The banshee kinda looks like an umbaran vehicle, which makes me wonder if umbaran vehicles were inspired by halo.

IDK about that, but the Umbaran heavy walker sure looks like a lot like a Scarab. The Umbaran fighter kinda looks like it's own thing IMO, especially with the ray-shielded cockpit.

How do you run EAW so smoothly? I have trouble getting the game running, let alone keeping it running on Windows 10, especially any time I try to tab out! It's kind of frustrating, since your videos have made me super interested in playing it again.
1: Are you running through Steam, or one of the original disc versions? The disc versions are notoriously hard to get running nowadays, as the anti-piracy measures taken when the game were released, have actually been deemed a security risk by windows, and was discontinued/disabled as of windows 8, I think. Not sure. I know I used the have tremendous trouble getting the game to run from disc, but when I switched to the Steam version, that's completely disappeared.
2: Just don't tab out. I heard that the method of graphics refreshing when moving from something full-screen to the desktop and back has changed, or something and the game isn't able to restore properly. I've heard some people say that the game begins working again after a few minutes, (after a tab out), but in my experience, it just freezes. Or rather, it works, you just can't see anything.
If anybody has more knowledge on these issues, feel free to butt in.
@@joec5993 It is through Steam (though I tried GOG version, too). Unfortunately, with the tabbing out thing, it's an extremely difficult temptation to resist because I have 3 monitors, and typically have some video going while I'm playing a game like EAW, so I have to pause it if I leave, or skip to the next (in the case of a series). If that's the only way, I'll make do, but I was hoping.
@@Malkierian I tried running the game in windowed mode and it works, you can go from the game to other windows, but it really kills the game experience. It just doesn't look the same, and to set it back to fullscreen is a pain to figure out, so I don't recommend it.
And if you're running on Steam, I wouldn't know why you're having trouble running the game. Have you tried asking on the EAW discussions on Steam?
@@joec5993 No, but there are several other people who've had my same problem, the "Can't reset Direct3D device" thing, and no one's really had any solution.
@@Malkierian Quick google search on my end probably turned up the same things you've already seen, but have you tried the auto-detect settings button in graphics options? I saw a couple people that said that fixed/helped their problem.

The one dislike is from a dev designer for EA who hates the idea of collective mods. A community of modders prove that the profit incentive can create shit games like EA while dedication and self preservation can create amazing gameplay.
