This and other similar mods give us a glimpse into what Halo Wars could’ve been if it didn’t suffer through development hell (Bungie being absolute cancer towards Ensemble and REPEATEDLY trying to get it shut down. Half of Ensemble was working on other stuff for a good chunk of development because they were burned out on working exclusively on rts game. And them being told to scrap their original pitch and changing it to a Halo console rts), and being MASSIVELY held back by an Xbox controller (the retail game is VERY bare bones due to these limitations. If it was designed for keyboard and mouse we could’ve had something that’s actually complex. The sequel improved on what Ensemble gave us, but is still shackled by the gamepad). Even though the balancing for different mods is a mixed bag, I still like checking out the various mods. It’s really interesting seeing different people’s ideal versions of the same game. You should definitely cover the other mods when you get the chance.
The reason keyboard and mouse is superior is because you have far more precision when you control/select your troops. Numerous Keyes allow you to easily assign different groups, abilities, and building types to different hotkeys. It also allows you to angle/turn around buildings when making new ones (something that happens in free building rts games). If you try to have all that on a controller it will be super clunky and won’t work half the time. The. On the other hand you’ll get what happened with Halo Wars where it has the depth of a puddle. I had a lot of fun with the series, but after delving into more advanced games in the genre I now realize the games are VERY bare bones. They’re the kind of thing I can ONLY recommend to someone that’s both new to the genre, and a big Halo fan. If you’re not either of those there isn’t much there for you, other than maybe playing with the controller just to see how well that works. The second game is a definite improvement that adds more depth into the buildings (mini bases are more useful with them having 2 slots for specialized units, instead of 1. There’s more turret types. Along with certain campaign missions and Firefight having turret/wall sockets at key choke points around the map), more u it’s, abilities, and making certain changes to production to add more depth. Sadly, it’s still limited by the controller. Otherwise the devs could’ve gone all out (the pc version allows you to put units in groups, but that sadly doesn’t go far enough). For anyone reading this I’m not saying you can’t like the games. I’ve had a lot of fun with both, and am still able to get a kick out of them through mods (love how a lot of HW1 mods backport the best features and balancing/production changes from HW2 to HW1). I’m just saying in the retail form they aren’t very good rts games, and the mods are held back by the game’s core design.
Part of the reason why Bungie was so against Ensemble using the IP was because Microsoft gave Ensemble permission to use it WITHOUT consulting Bungie, remember that Bungie still had the rights to the Halo IP during this time not Microsoft so for Microsoft to pull this crap on them and just expect Bungie to play ball must have been insulting to them. Edit: also, let's not forget that Bungie first thought of doing an RTS with the Halo IP before settling on Combat Evolve.
From what I can tell, there's a problem that becomes apparent in Arcadia City. Someone thought it would be a cool idea to have an Elite with an Energy Sword slicing through civilians, rather than a Brute Chieftain. Ever since, the attitude against the Elites has been 'Nope, cannot ally with them'. I mean, they're literally called Brutes, to distinguish them from the Honor Guard and Elite pilots, because they're the ones to do the butchering, when you can't get the Jackals and Grunts to pass as a credible threat. I mean, let's face it. Ripa the Arbiter in Halo Wars was smart enough to question the Prophet in the second mission. I think Dawn of war 2 is like a proto Company of Heroes and in all honesty It's just so slow at the same time if that makes any sense just meh. If you like that's cool I appreciate it, it's a great game and maybe if I gave it a fair try back in the day I would have liked it but the small armies no base building, meh.
@@heylookitsbilly8407 not sure if my 1st message is got through but yes it was a bit long winded but yeah some mods good some mods no.

The comment that base game covenant are overpowered is insane. The game is heavily biased in its original balance towards the UNSC, even when you take covenant leaders into account.
Halo and Star Wars needs to be saved man. Take it away from these undeserving devs. Dei infected garbage make halo wars 3 and bring back the OG halo wars. Halo wars 2 was dogshit in my opinion it felt so beyond clunky. I remember I could pull of 1v3’s in halo wars then in halo wars 2 I couldn’t even micro properly and would feel slowed down in game progress & fluidity of the game. Sad times. Bring back halo reach too. Every game made past 2016 has been dog shit. While we are at it make a battlefront 3 for Star Wars and rip the licenses say from the scumbags at Disney.
I do agree Wars 2 wasn't as good as people said
Is it still being worked on?? Its been a thing for so long and i haven’t noticed any changes sense i got it which was a year or 2 ago
Really enjoy watching your content. Ironically I’m working on my own review of the Leader Overhaul Mod and you sir have inspired me.
Would you be interested in playing this mod together if you have time? I’ll add you on discord sometime
Sure. The channel Discord link is in the description.
Leader overhaul is the one I tried getting working, but apparently can only use it with a working Steam version. It seemed like alot of fun.
@antiwave5294 What are some of the things you plan on doing with your mod? It’s always interesting seeing people’s different idealized versions for various games.
@@xIcyStarzz-yz7myAbsolutely does work with MS version of the game. Suggest using the Firebase/Halo wars de mod manager which can be found on moddb
There is a Halo mod for Sins of the solar empire, you should check it out too.
And yeah been following this mod and trying out new versions now then, have had crash problems too when i guess too many units? Hopefully there is some fix of that eventually.
Yes it does seem to be linked to the amount of units, maybe why the pop count is lowered.
I've played Sins of the Prophets. Pretty cool though I always find SOSE gets boring pretty quick.
