I did pick up a Giant escape on Monday, took it for a ride yesterday just to check adjustments, ended up riding 23 miles down by the beach, light, responsive and a killer paint scheme, got many compliments on it,I could've bought a bike that cost way more, but this thing covers all the bases, best bike I've ever owned, I know where there is a few left in So Cal, let me know if u need info, the prices on last years model wont get any lower than they are now, cant wait to ride more tomorrow.
Bought this bike last year and have used it 5 days a week (12 km round trip to work) throughout the year in every type of weather you could imagine. I would suggest upgrading the stock pedals for an extra $30 or so but aside from that no serious complaints. For the price this is a a great buy. I've kept it outside throughout the winter (I know this is bad) but it still worked great. Service it consistently if you ride often and you wont be disappointed.
Thanks for the review, Ive been wanting this bike for a while, now that winters come, I might go down to my lbs, and put it on a payment plan So I can have it paid in full and ready to go for spring
test rode a giant escape yesterday, very comfortable and an overall very nice bike for the price, even though im about 5' 10" the medium seemed to fit me better ergonomically, the large seemed to put the bars just out of my comfort reach, very smooth and responsive. might pick it up today.
Hybrids aren't going to be popular if people keep selling them as "well it's not quite a road bike yet". They'll end up having a Granny Bike stigma, when they're more than that. For a city commuter bike, a hybir simply makes the most sense. It's versatile and less of a hassle than a road bike.
Hybrids are the number one bike category and honestly the best option for family riding. A lot of them now have road bike gear ratios so you can even comfortably do long endurance all day rides.
Hi, does anyone know what year did the Escape model first came out? Any info on the different yearly models would be appreciated. I am trying to figure out the history and what year my Escape was produced. I got it at a Japanese surplus shop here in the Philippines. Thanks!
I had one in Tokyo. Replaced the brakes with Deore to fix hand strain. Rear derailleur SRAM X-O (metal cage) 7000yen from Y'sRoad. Thompson post and Easton neck and bars (monkey something-carbon) found in a bargain bin at the same store for 7500 together. I replaced the components and redid the cables for my fit. I have to say it rode very stiff, but sure, loaded up and pelting along in the rain beside the Tama river....ever so slightly pissed. (don't tell.) Nice builder til new frame/fork set
Just bought the Escape 2 City with disk brakes. Very happy with it so far. I might upgrade the saddle and grips as I get sore almost immediately after sitting on it and my hands start getting numb almost immediately too (a factor I have mitigated by starting to wear gloves).
Alejandro De Miranda im thinking about buying this. i want to use it for daily exercise. is it quick? curiouse what the difference between this and a fast road slr. because the slr is a fitness/sport but cost about $1200
I would not recommend buying this bike used. It is priced at an entry point price so unless they are selling it at a significant discount from retail, it's just not worth it because a lot of the time when you buy a used bike you have to get it tuned up, maybe replace a part here and there, and given the price point of this bike, by the time you are done, you could have bought it new. As far as my review, I am no expert, but I would not consider it a fast bike. My average speed was 9 mph. It is great for urban riding and commuting. If you are buying it for riding around the city, get disc brakes. The stopping power is good to have if you are sharing the road with cars or other bicycle commuters.
MarvvFIT I use the 2015 Escape 3 for fitness, I ride 40-50 miles at a time. I hated the stock seat and purchased a WTB pure saddle which suits me well.
Richard Johnson Yes. Great bike for exercise. You might want the XL size frame to fit for you and pump up the tires to support your weight. Then you're set.
I'm pretty happy with mine, I've gotten into the 35 km range several times a week. Although, as others have said I'm ready to up to a real road bike. If riding by yourself this can be great bike for fitness. If you are considering riding with others chances are you'll need a real road bike. I don't care for the seat either. Although those are so specific to the person there is no one size fits all.
The Giant Escape 3 has internal cables. I can't stand this style of exposing the cables to the rain. Upright handlebars are much safer than drop down handlebars, which are flat out annoying. There's no good place to put my hands, and I dislike riding bent over all the time. With upright handlebars, there is more leverage for turning, which is much safer, especially in city traffic.
You can always make a seat post longer and raise a steerer but you can't make a frame smaller. i'd chose a slightly smaller frame, less weight more sturdy,
Im actually looking to "downgrade" to this or Trek 7.2 Fx from my Specialized Allez.. My road bike is a work of art but comfort-wise it just doesnt suit me.
I had a trek alpha 1.2 road bike and my best friend has an Allez. I find road bikes too uncomfortable. It was fitted right it's just I don't like being in that position for more than 15 minutes. I sold my bike and got a mountain bike (specialized hardrock). Ride it on pavement a lot and I loved the versatility and comfort of the mtb but Now I'm looking into getting a hybrid since I don't ride off road much.
JasnoGT I went from a 1988 Trek 800 hybrid to a 2015 Escape3, its definitely designed for road use but can handle a field if needed. that being said, mine is a road horse...sees about 40-50miles of road use at a time.
I bought this today for $30 at an auction. I am really excited!!

Great video, Chris! I have this bike and I feel it is one of Giant's all-time BEST bikes! I am always more than happy to ride it! :)
Giant makes amazing bikes
This bike says "Y'know...I'm formal...but I also like to party."
I just bought a 2014 Giant Escape RX Composite- the escape bikes are awesome indeed!
I sold my 2008 felt jumper and got this bike and I absolutely love it. its perfect if you aren't ready to commit to cycling

BrainSeepsOut Could you explain how a road bike can be a hassle compared to a hybrid?
Hybrids are the number one bike category and honestly the best option for family riding. A lot of them now have road bike gear ratios so you can even comfortably do long endurance all day rides.
what's the widest.tire.u can put on the escape original.rim

I had one like this and I’m so happy with it.
Can you ride this on gravel paths?

MarvvFIT I use the 2015 Escape 3 for fitness, I ride 40-50 miles at a time. I hated the stock seat and purchased a WTB pure saddle which suits me well.
will this bike work for a 6'4 390 pound man looking to ride for fitness and to get in shape
Richard Johnson Yes. Great bike for exercise. You might want the XL size frame to fit for you and pump up the tires to support your weight. Then you're set.
You FAT SLOB!!!

Wish he would have covered the components.
I love my Giant Cypress DX, but even with the aluminum frame, it's heavy. I'd like something a bit lighter that I can get an extra 10-15 mph out of.
who cares

Actually i need a good road bike like scott speedster but couldnt buy
20 to 50 miles? Damn, on a hybrid
I believe he meant 20-15.
5 diff sizes for men ? I am 5 9 would "Large" be my size i wonder ?
I found that the best way to measure up, is to go to the shop and try out some different sizes.
Youre probably a 54 cm. Im nearly 5'11" and 54cm-56cm is my fit.
5'10" here riding a large 56cm
You can always make a seat post longer and raise a steerer but you can't make a frame smaller. i'd chose a slightly smaller frame, less weight more sturdy,
***** im 6.4 and ride the XL
