I have this bike and it's awesome. Flys down streets and I upgraded the tires and the pedals. Bought paniers for front and back. I recommend you buy this bike.
Forget the Escape line from Giant, the new Fastroad bikes are terrific and just more fun. I have had a Escape in the past and now ride a 15 Fastroad SLR.
I'm not sure about this specific model, but I just bought the 2013 Escape RX 1 and it holds my 240lbs just fine. The frame is of no concern, it's just the wheels. Ideally, you'd want 32 spoke wheels to hold our weight. At 6'5 you'd probably want an XL frame with a professional fit, so visit your local bike shop. The tires might not be suitable for riding on grass, but you could always swap the tires out for knobbies. Also, you could invest into an air zound bike horn.
I read a comment from someone who worked in a bike shop and assembled a load of Giant escape bikes and he didn't think they would make a good touring bike a much more expensive bike would be better the owners kept breaking the bikes so they had to keep on fixing them . So overall an expensive bike will be better and if your rough with your bike and your not able to fix it yourself you're going to have to get an arsehole like him to fix it . I think they are decent enough bikes and their popularity means getting parts will be easier that some more obscure make of bike . For touring I understand a 90's mountain bike with 26" wheels and steel frame is the best choice on a budget tyres are more available all around the world .
It's weird how both the bikes in this video aren't the right size/measurement for the rider. notice how she basically has to tip toe when braking. You shouldn't have to practically fall off a bike to get it to stop, or jump up to get it going. If you see the guy standing next to the bike, the seat basically comes up to his navel! What does he do a tuck and roll to get off his bike? Jeez.
+C “N7” North That's how my bike is set up. As SuperSayanFitness says, you set the saddle height for maximum efficiency if you wish to ride that way. (i.e. only a slight bend in your knee when the crank/peddle reaches its lowest point) Unfortunately it can sometimes necessitate sliding off the saddle to reach the floor when you come to a stop.

I have an Escape City and use it for daily commuting. I like it.
Yup, a good bike, I should know, I ride one! Cheers for the video
The music makes me not want to buy it.
T. J. Ivy t do you expect Led Zeppelin or Metallica?

those are out of the price range for the target buyers of this bike. I'm not looking for a dedicated road bike, I'm looking for a cheap commuter.
This is literally the goofiest video for a great bike I've ever seen. Shame on whoever put this ad together!!
Can't understand how the biggest bike factory could do this!
I just purchased the 2014 escape rx composite- awesome riding machine! Im the first person in my area to own one.
