That’s because they are junk 😂 vw cheaps out on the build quality. Between the leaky plastic water pumps, timing chain tensioner failures, piston ring failures, pcv valve failures, start/stop buttons that go bad at 30k miles, and all the other cheap sensors they use. What do you expect their reputation to be when the reliability is worse than gm/ford products of the 90’s and early 2000’s.
Wow, why all the hate on VAG? I live in The Netherlands and it's the biggest group here driving VAG cars. I know a lot of people who own such a car (such as my dad). I must say, the quality of the cars are very good. Gear shifter falls in place very smooth, easy steering, almost no cheap plastics in the interior and overall very nicely finished cars
That was my thought too, if the sensor is getting cooked, whack some kind of barrier between it an the exahust. On my car I'd just use a cut-up bit of an old beer can, but the Evo is a bit too nice for that sort of half-assery.
You would think that an aftermarket company would have come up with an improved version to fix the problem,i think the rareness if the car might be the problem if it was an STI there might be a fix.

Blinking check engine light normally means a misfiring engine. I don't know that much about cars but speaking from personal experience driving with the problem only created more problems.
Yupp in obd2 cars the blinking check engine is to let you know theres a severe misfire and you should stop driving your car as to not mess up the catalytic converter
Lol my Audi REALLY needs a new fuel filter, every now and then when Im giving it to the car, she'll get SEVERE misfires...(5 of 6 cyl misfire) but it will clean up shortly after (not looking into it as its rare, and Im saving for a CTSV and dont want to be tempted to fix this car) and both cats are alrwady dead so what do I care lol

At one point it just wouldn't accelerate, just sit and stutter a few feet maybe. That's when i became familiar with the infamous blinking engine light. The previous owner didn't take care of it at all. Multiple exhaust leaks, oil leaks, radiator leaks. Just top it off and keep it going. But the problem still occurs just on a cold start in cold weather.

@@AbdulbarrAslam luckily mine has been very reliable just needing the usual fluids, even changed the diff fluid and did a timing belt for safe measure...why I think mine is lasting its the "luxury" V6 and not a VAG performance turbo 4,5 or 6. So ots meant to be quiet and not cause issues...only thing it does is sip oil...1 quart every 6 months (I dont put too many miles on it) sounds bad ass straight piped lol
Bro check the fuel pump lines hooked into the fuel pump. Make sure their tight.. had a TT Quattro that did the same thing. It runs fine until u really ask for fuel pressure. Hope this helps
True, I paused the video and diagnosed it before they found the codes. Lol. I was wrong, I’ve replaced many parts with new parts for no reason. But it’s still fun to work on ur own car and honestly just about everything should be replaced after 100k miles I’m the guy who takes his fuel rail and injectors out and cleans them just because it’s fun.

Had a cam sensor go on my Subaru, and it was really weird like this too, well, was worse. It became undriveable and stalled in the middle of an intersection. New sensor in, and has worked wonderfully for years since.

And the oil smelled quite strange when I drained it. No building that engine once it was done, not that you need to when your turbo won't even flow enough for 400whp, which is nothing on a 4g. Second one has been beat to death. And the the oil pump gave out mysteriously at only 88k on the engine/pump. So rod knock 2.0. Turns out engines need oil.

I met them at a meet 6 years ago in Melbourne and they're both around 6' to 6'1 or 6'2 which is around 183cm to 188cm approx with Marty being a couple of cm taller. And this is also with shoes on so minus an inch or so would be their actual heights. But again, by no means are either of them considered short.
ahh in australia we dont carry car registration documents in the glove box. those stay at home. Our police can check those on the fly using their tech in their cars. So we can afford to leave cam sensors, service history, insurance and other important emergency parts in the glove box :D
I had this problem with my Nissan. I believe if your car is 10 years or older, and the engine bay has normal or above grim for that period, you should undo every plug under the bonnet and clean them with Electrical Cleaner, let it sit for a few seconds and blow them clean with Air, and then apply Dielectric Grease, to keep them clean & protected, this makes a big difference to how it will run.
My evo does this same thing too. But it’s really intermittent usually comes up after a lot of stop and go driving. Gonna start looking into the cam sensor now too
It's always the heat that makes them fail, along with several other components on any 4g63t. If you can make a bit of heat shielding around any of those areas, you'll be doing yourself a favor.

My glove box is full of cam sensors... Hardly any space for my registration documents :)

Might be worth replacing the O2 sensor/s too, they have a fair say in whether or not the AF ratio is good to go or whoa, they don’t last forever.
