why am I getting shit for this comment my dudes? I said: it IS a possibility but AS LONG as the car didn't sit it should PROBABLY be fine, and then I gave my reasoning as to why I'd suspect they are indeed fine
"Eleventy" 😂😂😂 #450kw, an evo needs 600hp and your mate Charles Lam sells a stock location turbo capable of that. He should have sold you it when you bought the new exhaust off him.
@@whatevermechanics this was the turbo I was suggesting, fits under a Tomei stock style manifold with heat shield for the stealth look. www.lamspeedracing.com/products/forced-performance-fp-zero-ball-bearing-stock-frame-turbocharger-for-the-evolution-4-9
I don’t have time to go back and watch the video of their race (wouldn’t know how they performed off camera anyway). But I suspect mah boy wasn’t staying in boost all the time. The effect of dropping out of boost is devastating for engines with a low compression ratio and high boost, like 4g63 (tuning it only makes the problem worse btw). Golf R however, has a higher compression ratio and lower boost pressure. So it’s easier for casual drivers to drive it fast since you can basically drop the rpm to 2,500 a few times in a race and not be penalised heavily in lap time.
The golfs compression ratio is only slightly higher, both stock. So its not the static compression ratio that is the difference. Its far more likely the fact the golfs got a smaller punchier turbo, which is boosting harder lower down and then decreases higher up. Also with a far more modern variable timing on the exhaust the golf can spool the turbo quicker. The golf also has shorter gearing due to the 7 speed box vs the 6 in the evo. Then factor in the more modern suspension and traction control it's not surprising that the golf can keep up because there's only the straight where the evo can put its high range power down.
audrey mini I actually don’t know much about 4g63 and gen7 golf r. I know my 4b11t has a compression ratio of 9:1 and my housemate’s gen6 golf r has compression ratio of 9.5:1. This “0.5” difference might be more significant than you think. Because 10.5:1 naturally aspirated engines can run on #91 but 12:1 NA engines need to run on #98, already skipping #95, just within three 0.5 increments. Different VVT technology can play a part in there I agree. You also mentioned the turbo setup in golf make it way easier to stay in boost than that in Evo. However I doubt the “suspension and traction control” on an part-time 4wd is superior to a full-time 4wd with aftermarket suspension. Perhaps the golf just had better tyre on idk.
Having performed a lot of testing, the difference between 9-9.6 which is the difference of the two engines isn't significant to cause the dramatic change whereas the stock golf turbo Vs the aftermarket "big" turbo on the Evo definitely is. But also the static compression ratio is pretty irrelevant due the the variable cam profiles. If the cam is set to keep the intake valve open for longer then the dynamic compression ratio is significantly lower. Likewise if you put a racy cam in with a large overlap the dynamic ratio is decreased as the valves are both open during the initial stage of compression, so the static compression ratio is pretty pointless comparing two different engines. A diesel engine has a huge compression ratio so with that logic should be incredible but without boost they're pretty dire. The golf has the ability to control the wheel speeds far more accurately than the Evo, so it should be able to turn quicker and maintain mid corner grip better. The Evo is using technology a decade before the golf, and don't forget it's been a prolific decade for computer controlled cars. The Evo had a fresh set of pretty good road tyres on so unless the golf had some semi slicks I don't think the tyres really come into it, as they usually put bridgestone re00*'s on their cars so I don't know why this time would be any different.
Also regarding the need for higher octane fuels, the more air is compressed the harder it is to compress so the difference between 9 and 9.5 is very different than between 11 and 11.5.
Fix the sensor issues and get your low down torque back and run the 2 cars back on the track. Get your exit speed back and you'll dog that VW all day. Then you can see if you wanna do a 250 vs 400kw
@@ozzy8031 yeah but 400kw with its low down power back may just blow the doors off a 250kw VW and then theres no real battle. I guess I should have said run it back with the cars being fixed then do the big boy shootout. More content for them as well lol
So cam sensor it is then, not giving you proper response throughout the rev-range meaning it'll feel like a dog when racing at the track. Fix that = Problem solved.

For the non-metric, Dynojet peeps..... 270kw = 367hp (270kw x 1.36) 367hp on a Mainline load-bearing dyno is about 430whp on a Dynojet (367hp x 1.17) 430whp with a 15% driveline loss = 505hp at the crank (430whp ÷ .85) Ninja edit: 400kw would be over 700hp at the crank
You seriously think that Evo is making 500hp+ at the engine and could not even smash a golf making 290 at the engine and the golf has alot of problems so probably alot less than 290 and the golf is heavier than the evo?
@@benwilliams4035 Entirely possible. It's a very tight track with not much of a straight. So it favors handling, braking and midrange torque over peaky, high-rpm horsepower. If the MIVEC system is not working, then it's dead in the midrange. Having more hp doesn't equate to always being quicker.

I do NOT give you permission to go to 400kw Marty. I give permission to go to 500kw.
I love how Moog is so off topic lol it adds flavor. Makes you guys different than the normal "mod" channels. Martin and Moog complement each other well.
Such a sweet evo! LOVE that blue, so darn clean
Shiny, new intro! #400kw? Love that idea. Great episode, thank you!👍🏼🤘🏼😎✌🏼
By far one of the best episodes. Just 3 mates sitting in a car talking shop. And great info! Loved it! #450?
Price of a blue evo9 just went up 1000%
MCM tax + JDM tax
Unfortunately, so has the price of the golf R which i was searching for as the vid released
Scotty has already done 400KW so we need a MCM first 500kw beast! Upgrade everythinggggggggg 💪 but keep the look standard
Love to see tuning fork in the vid. He really has so much knowledge about these cars.
Try to clean injectors, you said it was driven on only ethanol for few years
it's always a possibility with ethanol but as long as it was driven constantly (never set for more than a week or so) they should probably be fine, specially since power curve seemed fine on the dyno
@@ozzy8031 that's why I added "if" before my sentence
Thums i dont see the if
why am I getting shit for this comment my dudes? I said: it IS a possibility but AS LONG as the car didn't sit it should PROBABLY be fine, and then I gave my reasoning as to why I'd suspect they are indeed fine
Thums you didnt say "if" in that sentence
"Eleventy" 😂😂😂
#450kw, an evo needs 600hp and your mate Charles Lam sells a stock location turbo capable of that. He should have sold you it when you bought the new exhaust off him.
Hx40 works 😅
@@whatevermechanics this was the turbo I was suggesting, fits under a Tomei stock style manifold with heat shield for the stealth look.

New OpeningGraphics are really nice guys - well done!
I will be extremely disappointed if this thing doesnt end up rapid firing flames out the back. #400Kw+ANTILAG
RRRAAAAAPAPAPAAPAPAPAPPPAAAPAPAPAPAPAPAPAPAPAAAAAAAAAA!
The first respone to the # is a golf thing.
And then you grow up and realize just how stupid that looks unless you're at the track.
+
This is without doubt the best looking car you’ve ever had on MCM 😍
Fix the sensor issues and get your low down torque back and run the 2 cars back on the track.
Get your exit speed back and you'll dog that VW all day.
Then you can see if you wanna do a 250 vs 400kw
@@ozzy8031 yeah but 400kw with its low down power back may just blow the doors off a 250kw VW and then theres no real battle.
I guess I should have said run it back with the cars being fixed then do the big boy shootout.
More content for them as well lol
yeah but moog willl get a killer tan from the vag check engine light
"Why's it feel slow then?"
BECAUSE YOU SHORT-SHIFT LIKE A FIEND, MARTY.
thank you!
Probably afraid to break it with the engine light on.
Dont normally buy merch but you guys definitely deserve the money. Ordered a few items for a birthday present to myself. :D
Being a VAG, it could be outputting well over 50 times the claimed output.
Casey Stoner what? 😂
@@malinamalinowsky3874 Emissions, mate.
lol
Awesome new intro. How old was the previous one, 2 years? Aged really well!
In England you guys would be called (LtoR) Colin, Aaron and Dave. Love the channel guys.
Set your standards higher Marty, go for 450 or 500 Kw. Hope y'all have a great day.
So cam sensor it is then, not giving you proper response throughout the rev-range meaning it'll feel like a dog when racing at the track.
Fix that = Problem solved.
AWESOME new intro/graphics! Really captures you guys.
Excited for this evo and for when you two act so bromancely
10,000 RPM is the best thing said in this entire video
#400plusKW 2.4 big block. Do it Marty, do it!!!!!
I just effing love this car, looks so clean and the blue is goodness.
Hahaha... Just saw the Russell Coight handshake reference 🤣🤣 too funny
Marty: "400 Kilowatts Questionmark."
Me: "420 Kilowatts Point."
Cool new intro. I held my breath waiting to see if the Cylon voice would still be there.
#650HP
Smooth out current spec and do a vs Gramps on the track then full send 650HP!
I liked the old INTRO MUSIC more. So many car shows use too much "crunchy" guitar sounds. Prefer the 80's pop feel of most of the M2M music
All their intros have had guitar/drums in them?
I see what you mean, but appreciate their evolution (pun intended!) and they don’t change the intro very often, so I’m sure it’ll be a matter of time before you get into it!
@@_Professor_Oak The previous one was a little bit more "mild techno". For me, the music on MCM helps to differentiate it a bit. Every car fix/ mod/ tune troupe on TH-cam seem to use crunchy guitar, yet every garage I've ever been in, the guys listen to the local pop channel on the radio in the shop. I love that MCM are always developing ( though I hope Fanking never goes away ), but if you're watching lots of car mod videos from different channels, the guitar crunch can get a bit old. Love your TH-cam nick "Televised Chaos" - very cool !
Bought some mcm decals from you guys the other day can't wait till they come love your Vids from the UK
Please tune the Golf! I'd love to see power mods done to that thing. They are properly quick with mods
If Marty goes for 400kw. You know Moog will go BT for the R. APR's Stage 3+ puts 500whp down, which is only 36hp less than a 400kw (536hp) Evo. lol
That gen 3 TSI is crazy.
Even a stage 1 map and a box map would keep the Evo behind.. DSG box is great on these.
Based on looks alone Evo wins hands down.
Satveer Degun I prefer the looks of the Golf personally lol
@@TheCompyshop To me its just a boring Golf but to each their own ofcourse!
I know a guy who daily’s a 400 whp golf :p
For the non-metric, Dynojet peeps.....
270kw = 367hp (270kw x 1.36)
367hp on a Mainline load-bearing dyno is about 430whp on a Dynojet (367hp x 1.17)
430whp with a 15% driveline loss = 505hp at the crank (430whp ÷ .85)
Ninja edit: 400kw would be over 700hp at the crank
You seriously think that Evo is making 500hp+ at the engine and could not even smash a golf making 290 at the engine and the golf has alot of problems so probably alot less than 290 and the golf is heavier than the evo?
@@benwilliams4035 Entirely possible. It's a very tight track with not much of a straight. So it favors handling, braking and midrange torque over peaky, high-rpm horsepower. If the MIVEC system is not working, then it's dead in the midrange. Having more hp doesn't equate to always being quicker.
Great vid boys, your kicking heaps of goals lately. Im searching for an EVO now
#400kilowatts! Exclamation point, not question mark.
