Another great video hickok. Even though I'm a certified glockaholic I didn't know this gun existed until my wife bought me one for an early Christmas present yesterday. Put 100 rnds of American eagle 180gr fmj. Great shooter I think I'll use it for whitetail and hogs.
I just picked up one of these weapons for off duty carry and I'm very impressed with the performance. It takes a bit of getting used to; but, it's definitely capable of taking care of business.
This is the gun which may actually convince me to buy a Glock(I'm a revolver and steel pistol guy). That darn thing could serve as an anti-aircraft gun. :)
I have this gun, hailing 10mm at 13:44 and 18:18. Very accurate and controllable for those close encounters within 20 yards it has no competition. Plus if you need some food you can each out and touch a tasty deer or elk at easily 50+ yards with the full power loads available from underwood, double tap, or buffalo bore. Best all around full power pistol hands down, that won't break the bank at $700.

I've had my G40 for a month now and the slide will interchange with my Gen 4 Glock 20. I had a red dot on it but am opting to put an Aimpoint T1 on it over the Triicon RMR.
I remember when 44 magnum was the top dog. No one ever questioned the power of a 44 magnum against bears, but now that you got all the super magnum handguns out there. The same people treat a 44 magnum like it’s barely good enough for rabbits.
My wife and I carry the glock 10mm. 20Gen4. We conceal carry and I open carry. We are in NORTH CAROLINA so we have both conceal carry and open carry. We have noticed that when we walk into a restaurant the first thing people see is the guns we have. We have been to the firing range with these guns and they are super nice. Our son is in Law Enforcement and he carries a Glock 45. We are very satisfied with these guns.
I purchased a G40 this summer and installed a Holosun green dot and Trijicon suppressor height night sights. I recently used this pistol to take a nice buck at 45 hards from a stand. Really impressed with both the pistol and the 10mm performance. Update: I swapped out the factory barrel for a KKM threaded barrel so I could install my Bannish 45 suppressor while hunting. Not super quiet. but is now hearing safe without muffs or earplugs. Probably now as close as I can get to a perfect stand hunting pistol.

I picked up a used gen 4 model 40 and right away did what I always do when I make a firearms purchase. I looked up Hickok to see what he thinks. We are of one mind; I LOVE this pistol and have discovered that I shoot it very well. Years ago I had a model 23. It was really hard on my oversized hands. That was a 40SW. This big 10 mm is much more comfortable for me to shoot.
@@pinoyRN67 I’m only 5’8” and even though I COULD carry it concealed…using a Versacarry OWB on a Rancher belt with a loose jacket or shirt, I like less weight and a smaller frame for EDC. @@pinoyRN67 it sure is. However, it CAN be concealed. I carried a Sig 320x Carry IWB and OWB last winter and it’s a challenge due to weight and size, but it’s doable. The model 40 is about the same challenge, but I have found that my Versacarry holsters and belts, which I have for all my auto loading pistols, are a great way to get it done.
got my G40 about 2 weeks ago and i love it. I mounted a Burris fast fire III . The Burris is not on the list of compatible optics but it works perfectly. I purchased The 9in barrel for my G20 from lone wolf (like the one in a earlier video) . It fits and functions perfectly in the G40.
Awesome gun! When I got my Gen4 23 (used) the original owner had replaced the standard sights with adjustable sights like on your G40. Those things just would not stay zeroed. A local shop stuck some Glock steel sights on for $15.
I remember the day after the assault weapons ban sunset, around 15 years ago. I went out and purchased 5, 15 round mags for my Gen3 19. Those days could definitely return.
Hey Hickok! Love your channel! I just purchased a G40 and I wondered if you have a recommendation for a good hunting holster that works well with the long slide? Thank you!
Before I had a custom holster made I used the Safariland 578 pro fit holster for large framed hand guns. You can set the retention you desire and it allows for a reflex sight if you wish to mount one.
The semi-circular tab (or whatever you want to call it) on the front of Gen 4 slides is larger than the Gen 3 slides--due to the dual recoil spring unit that is used. This means that the front of the frame has a larger cutout to match. If you put a Gen 3 slide on a Gen 4 frame, there's a huge gap. On the other hand, the Gen 4 slide can't go all the way onto a Gen 3 frame.
I purchased my first handgun on the advice of a former police officer. He told me to get a "Glock 40". I didn't know he meant .40 caliber, so I got the model 40. Imagine my surprise.
My wife just bought me one of these guns for an early Christmas present. It shoots really well, but while reassembling the gun I can't get the slide on to the frame unless I push on the striker plunger allowing the striker to move forward then I can get the frame and slide back together. I've never had to do that with any other glock. It doesn't seem to affect performance.
Hickok45, I just returned from the range. I had a 6" KKM barrel on my Glock 20 and put it onto my Glock 40 for today's range. It worked without flaw using American Eagle 200 gr FMJ and had impressive accuracy.
Another good video. Thank you for your attention to gun safety -- that's so important. I'd like to share a story that occurred recently: I was with a family member at the range a few months ago. He had a brand new S&W .380 semi automatic pistol he was going to shoot for the 1st time, which he'd been keeping loaded with factory ammo for concealed carry. I'd mentioned the range did not allow loaded guns inside except on the firing line, so he removed its magazine and cycled the slide a few times to clear the pistol before we entered the facility. Fortunately, I noticed a live round had remained in the chamber despite the slide being cycled. I can't emphasize enough, everyone please LOOK into the chamber as you cycle the slide to clear a pistol. Removing the mag and cycling the slide does not guarantee the gun is empty. By the way, the gun functioned flawlessly other than that isolated issue. There were no more instances of it having a live round stay in the chamber when it shouldn't.
Try the Lehigh 10mm Penetrator round. I saw 22plinkster test that round against a bullet resistant laminated polycarbonate (i assume) glass/plate. The regular range round did not penetrate the plate any better than a 9mm. But the Lehigh Penetrator went right through. Short but interesting video.
Howdy hickock45 I wanted to thank you for this review. I love your videos but I had been agonizing over my second handgun. I have a nice small 9 and wanted something bigger and potentially with more power. I almost chickened out but I ended up with a G40. Thanks for this review it helped me fell comfortable with what is my favorite gun ever fired.
do you think the extra length of the glock 40 will make a difference in stopping a bear compared to the glock 20? thank you sir. i love your videos please keep them coming.
I heard that a Glock 20 could shoot .40 cal and .357 sig with a barrel swap. Would it be possible with this gun with a barrel swap and mag change? That would really ad to the versatility. Keep up the great work.
My wife bought me a G40, so far about a 1000 rounds of sellier and bellot 10mm through it, no jams or smiles. However I recently purchased some really hot underwood extreme penetrators pushing a 140grain solid copper bullet at 1,560 fps. It shoots ok if you take your time, but if you do a mag dump or squeeze off more than a few, the infamous Glock smile appears and each successive round gets worse and worse to the point that at about the 13th round the casing had bulged so much in the chamber that the extractor didn't remove the empty and a jam occurred. Upon inspection I was amazed at how close the underwood round came to total catastrophic failure, aka the dreaded squib load? Either way if anyone happens to get their hands on this piece, I highly recommend buying a fully supported after market barrel as the OEM glock barrel is not sufficient to handle successive high power rounds in a rapid fire situation and the risk of injury increases as you dump a full magazine. Had my weapon not jammed I may be in the hospital with injuries. A very nice gun, still extremely reliable, however, Glock fails to inform the consumer that their stock barrels are designed to accept a wide range of low to medium power loads efficiently, but does not fully support the cartridge in the chamber because of this feature, and high power loads may fail and cause injury. don't let this turn you away however, still a very nice platform. I'm gonna try a lone wolf threaded barrel and see how it does
#hickok45 Awesome review man, as always. You've probably been asked this a thousand times, but the perspective of distance is impossible to estimate in the video. Can you share the general distances you're shooting for the major targets, including the gong at the back? Keep the videos rolling!
I purchased a glock 10 mm for bear and mountain lion protection in the kaibab. I felt I needed more rounds and hotter loads than .45 . Shooting hpr 180 grain hp . The glock is flawless. And for a pistol 15+1 this is downrange hot. Big hands, big gun.. Thank you for this and all your reviews.

Hey Hickok the frame of the G40 is an unaltered G20 gen 4 frame, because it has the dual recoil spring assembly is the reason the G40 slide wouldn't fit on your G20 gen 3. Really enjoyed your review on the G40, been waiting for it since January lol
I remember hickok commenting on .357 sig as having a lot (implying too much) blast. I don't see much consistency in liking the 10 but not liking the 357 very much. They are both a little nasty.
I would love to make the leap into hand loading but it's just a few buck too far right now. I don't find the .357 objectionable but one of those 10mm looked pretty hot. I got the feeling Hickok really didn't care for the Sig.
fairly proportional tho eh? I mean heavier G20/21 with a much heavier pellet and lighter G19/17 with 9mm. Besides..and I'm not losing sleep over this..he kept referring to the blast as objectionable. Personally, I get a weird finger pinch/whack shooting the .357, which I don't enjoy but I find some kind of satisfaction in the load for some reason. Weird.

@@TheDiameter I will have to check that one out, usually if I don't know someone that owns one I will rent one and get a hundred rounds or so and test it. Thanks for the heads up!
@@edgeuvchaos it’s the first 10mm I’ve owned, but of all the polymer framed 10s I’ve shot it’s easily the nicest. Plus it’s only $800 but shoots like a $1k gun.
He hit the nail on the head about the difference between the .40 s&w and the 10mm...anyone who says off the shelf 10mm is the same as a .40 probably has never fired a 10mm and just believes whatever they read in the comments sections from keyboard experts who probably dont even own a gun
"gas check" is the words.
I think the 10 mm is the best all around semi auto handgun round there is. But that's just my opinion.
If I could shoot like you I wouldn't want an optic either.
+Jeff Gibson Agreed.
g20 is why i became a glock follower. 10mm is definitely an awesome round.
+Jeff Gibson Amen!! 10mm doesn't leave much on the table to a 41 S&W Mag and it is a bit less in the noise and muzzle blast
Griz Woldstad There are revolver rounds that are really good but in a normal SA handgun I like the 10mm.
Mine just looks COOL with the Burris 8moa red dot on it...)
Thank you so much for doing this review. I just ordered this G40 from Bud's I hope to have it next week
+Southern Coastal Cooking ™ You're going to love it!
+Dee Coleman yes it will come I the mail tomorrow to my local FFL, I ordered the 43 as well last week
Outstanding!! Have fun!!
I just bought a glock 40 today!! XD
my friend at work is getting one of these and is going to sell me his gen 4 glock 20...I just don't get why...why even make this pistol? hunting is the ONLY POSSIBLE USE that I can guess. the 10mm out of a 4" barrel is plenty for hunting and defense, the g20 is as big and heavy a weapon I could ever use as my edc...what is the appeal for the g40 for you?
"Dis is muh glock fordee. Dis is muh problem solver rite heer."

Wow. Beautiful. A weapon this size with minimal recoil? OUTSTANDING!
Most big handguns have less recoil smaller handguns have much more recoil/kickback.

Oh shut up dale you giblet head
You've gotta get more Underwood. It costs 60¢ - 80¢ per round and is the most powerful 10mm you can buy.
Buffalo bore has entered the chat
Hornady makes good ones too
love me some underwood....makes big noise!- goes very fast!
Grizzly as well.
Another great video hickok. Even though I'm a certified glockaholic I didn't know this gun existed until my wife bought me one for an early Christmas present yesterday. Put 100 rnds of American eagle 180gr fmj. Great shooter I think I'll use it for whitetail and hogs.
So u meant to tell me a g40 can take a bear down? Sheesh. What wud u prefer a 38 revolver or a g40?
@@iamgniceHuh?
hickok45 please influence glock to make factory happy sticks for the 10mm.. its way over due.
30 rd mags are available now finally! Gun mag warehouse has them!
It may work with 45 mags, seems like I recall buying a 10mm barrel for my g21 because of that
Paul Crooks yeah but they’re made by SGM. I ordered one recently but I’d still rather have an OEM glock 30rd mag.
SPM!
kriss vector has a 33rd magazine for the glock g20 i believe it fits the glock 40 also dont hold me to it
I just picked up one of these weapons for off duty carry and I'm very impressed with the performance.
It takes a bit of getting used to; but, it's definitely capable of taking care of business.
This is the gun which may actually convince me to buy a Glock(I'm a revolver and steel pistol guy). That darn thing could serve as an anti-aircraft gun. :)

45 cap and 10mm
Dislike polymer striker fired guns, but the glock 20, 29, and 40 are just badass
It's super flat to 100yds
Hickok 45 is the best cultural encyclopedia about firearms!!!
At 24:00-24:25, for those who may not be familiar with it, those little brass caps at the base of cast lead bullets are called gas checks.
10mm is best mm
Which mm is best mm?
10 mm is best mm!
+The Wound Channel nah 7.62 is the best!
+akshooter762 For rifles not for handguns
+The Wound Channel 10mm or .357SIG
+akshooter762 those are a complete waste of an ak or $500 or so dollars, no reason to chamber a round like that in short barrel
Why would anyone vote Hickok down? It doesn't matter what you're demonstrating Hickok. I always enjoy your videos.
Definitely a brick but great for a range/competition 10mm
In your experience do you think the Glock 40 has less recoil than the normal sized 10mm glocks?
@Zylus C probably a little bit. I wonder if it’s actually noticeable.
Hey it's one of my other favorite channels on TH-cam! The FireArmGuy!😂😂💯✌🏻 I think I'm about to CCW the 10mm Glock soon! Thanks for a great review Hickok!✌🏻
Also a good 10mm home defense or bear defense pistol lol
I was thinking of hunting deer with one of these. Would a 1911 be a better platform. Just wondering I anyone has had any experience with either. Looking for something different to take down a white tail
He makes the biggest pistol look like a regular carry gun 😂
The noise alone would give a bear a heart attack.
Christ, the 10mm doesn't mess around!
Its awesome , bought a glock 20 back in 97 night sights and 8 mags , NFS ever
I am anti glock not a fan at all but YOU have made me make a purchase and reasoning in keeping a glock your reviews go a long way
Would love to see you shoot the EAA/Tanfoglio Witness 10mm. Seems like its another great value 10mm. Crossing my fingers!
Really appreciate you breaking things down for us to understand a gun. Your voice is perfect for listening to. Thank You Sir.
I appendix carry a Glock 40. My wife ask me is that your gun or are you just happy to see me? I say, "it's my gun" lol
Jeremy Jones dont shoot your weiner off...i can no way ...no how carry anything over jr..lol

How many rounds have you put through it? Is Holosun holding up alright?
6" threaded barrel .40 diameter?
This guy is a professional and a character.. he would laugh at you while shooting you..cool!
TRUTH
Hey hickock45,
So last Friday we were testing in school, and our teacher told us when we're finished we can get on our phones and stuff until the end of class. So when I finished I put my headphones on and startied watching this exact video. The teacher glanced at me and saw what I was watching.. He confiscated my phone for watching inappropriate content on TH-cam during school.. Really bs ..
My father, a former marine.. however did come up to the school and sorted them out and got my phone back
I wouldn't have gave them my phone lol and your teacher is nosy.
if you were in health class you really should have been watching porn. so I agree with your teacher in this case.
Ya probably not appropriate for school dipshit.
@Daniel Hertzler lmao I guess I should feel ashamed.. well Dan if it was in the curriculum for sure. But I'm sure it wasnt.. that it was some kid bored in class not paying attention watching random vids. I'm all for education. There's a time and a place to learn about the constitution and our rights! Lol not in the middle of cosmetology class. Haha wtf!
@@skylinefootball What?

Is that with or without the 30 caliber magazine clips?
Lol u still haven’t changed your name after 8 years. Oh wait. You’re dead!
Hickok45 I've been watching your videos for some time now but I might be your newest subscriber, (yesterday). Enjoyed this video on the Glock 40!. Thanks!
Is it Ok for concealed carry ( legal) ?
@@pinoyRN67 I’m only 5’8” and even though I COULD carry it concealed…using a Versacarry OWB on a Rancher belt with a loose jacket or shirt, I like less weight and a smaller frame for EDC. For that, I have a Sig 365x. My model 40 is in a shoulder rig when I’m out on the ranch and might encounter a bear or a wolf.
@@pinoyRN67 as for legality, It is legal where I live in Nevada and Idaho.
@@barntapes3414 what I meant to say is Glock 40 is a huge gun to conceal
I carry my glock 29sf as my main pistol. love the 10mm round!
.40 caliber bullets rock!! 40 S&W or 10mm auto. My two favorite semi auto cartridges.
Hey Hickok! Love your channel! I just purchased a G40 and I wondered if you have a recommendation for a good hunting holster that works well with the long slide? Thank you!
Before I had a custom holster made I used the Safariland 578 pro fit holster for large framed hand guns. You
can set the retention you desire and it allows for a reflex sight if you wish to mount one.
Picked up a Glock 20 for my North Georgia walk the dog bear gun. I love it, recoil is great.
I hope to add this to my collection by the end of the year . Great video you handle that 10mm like a pro !!!
Did you ever get one?
😂
Just picked up my new Glock 40 MOS today. It's a fantastic piece and worth every penny.
DAMN IT!! Just when I thought I would not have to but any more guns. Glock goes and does this to me......
this guy is amazing when it comes to shooting and breaking down the fundamentals
+jc6621 Ok,I thought it was just me.
I also thought I was challenged
I just bought this gun and had the same damn problem, I have to pull the trigger out slightly to get it to lock back up lol
I think I might just get a wife like that for Christmas. That way I cant wake up with the glock 40 10mm
Yall see how he was hitting the same holes on the paper 2 liters that man aim is crazy 😂
ALL HAIL THE 10MM
Hickok45, I just returned from the range. I had a 6" KKM barrel on my Glock 20 and put it onto my Glock 40 for today's range. It worked without flaw using American Eagle 200 gr FMJ and had impressive accuracy.
Need this to complete my Glock long slide collection. I already have the 17L and 24
Another good video.
That is what I call shooting. You friend, are a heck of a shot. You know your weapon. Thank you for the show and tell.👍
I just realized hickok has 1.6 Million Subs! That is just Awesome!!!
Just acquired a G40 MOS! I also have a Gen3 G20. Love me some 10mm!!
You prefer the G40 or G20? Can't decide between the two
@@rmuns1262 I loved both. Having the MOS red dot was nice on the G40, but for carry, I preferred the G20 or even the G29.
Been watching yo videos since I was 14
Try the Lehigh 10mm Penetrator round. I saw 22plinkster test that round against a bullet resistant laminated polycarbonate (i assume) glass/plate. The regular range round did not penetrate the plate any better than a 9mm. But the Lehigh Penetrator went right through. Short but interesting video.
I'm not sure if it's Underwood or Lehigh Defense Penetrator as he said Lehigh but the box looked like it said. Underwood.
Not really.
Sam Taylor no, but the longer barrel should help with better shot placement at longer distances.
well I guess they don't call em jarheads for nothin.
:D
ha ha, they're good soldiers though.
My wife just surprised me with one for Xmas! Awesome gun!
I heard that a Glock 20 could shoot .40 cal and .357 sig with a barrel swap. Would it be possible with this gun with a barrel swap and mag change? That would really ad to the versatility. Keep up the great work.
10mm is bigger than both I think. Or at least has more power

At 25:31 I think a piece of lead or something comes back at him.
You're right. And he's wearing what seems to be normal glasses?
Hey Hickok the frame of the G40 is an unaltered G20 gen 4 frame, because it has the dual recoil spring assembly is the reason the G40 slide wouldn't fit on your G20 gen 3. Really enjoyed your review on the G40, been waiting for it since January lol
I remember hickok commenting on .357 sig as having a lot (implying too much) blast. I don't see much consistency in liking the 10 but not liking the 357 very much. They are both a little nasty.
+notsoserious09 .and both are best for the handloader to keep ammo cost down.
The .357 sig feels snappier to me rather than having a harder recoil. Each caliber has their place and both are good for what they were designed for.
Weird.
Great Video!!! I am a huge 10mm fan! I have the 20 and the Smith 1076. I carry the 20 when I am hog hunting and have had success! I know you don't hunt so I think I will like the MOS option. Thanks again!!!!

No time to do that anymore. I did it pretty intensely for several years, though.

Can’t tell you as a Glock fan how much I hate people saying “get rid of those factory sights” though Hickok is a gun god, all these vids are proof there’s nothing wrong with factory sites, why bc they’re polymer? Who’s breaking sights? If that’s the case u for sure are breaking the fiber optic ones then.
I carry the Glock 40 mos with the Delta Point Pro in a Chest Holster here in North Idaho! Great gun for protection out on the trails and a very smooth recoil because of its slide weight. I also run the
Tungsten guide rod and spring and streamtlight .
Awesome! I carry my G40 in a Diamond D Guides Choice chest rig and a Hill People Gear Kit Bag. G40 has suppressor height sights and a McNally trigger.
