      @bdr32965 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@riccadaymian it's not too bad if you have strong wrists. Got to warn you though 10mm has a hard upward snap compared to other calibers, most other calibers have a bit of pushback before you get barrel rise, but 10mm is an instant upward snap due to the overpressure of the round. It is manageable though if you practice for a while.

      Just got my Glock 20 and went to range for first time today. I literally couldn't hit shit with it. The gun was awesome, loved the power, not too much recoil its definitely a sharper recoil than a .45ACP which is more of a thud recoil. But for whatever reason I couldn't even hit a damn can on the ground 15 ft in front of me but one out of every 15 shots if I was lucky. I usually shoot Glocks fairly, too. Need to figure out what it is if its gun or me or both.

    • @bdr32965
      @bdr32965 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@SkinnySkinch it just takes practice. I wasn't as accurate with my Glock 20 at first, but after a while I was putting lead downrange and right on target. The best bet for getting used to 10mm is getting used to shooting a .40 S&W beforehand to get used to the snap.

    I got the G29 because I wanted a gun that I could conceal and carry in the woods. My glock handles Underwood's 200 gr. hard cast like a champ. I shoot it better than my G2C 9mm. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with the G29.

      In the woods, chris, It's all about accuracy and rate of fire when a brown bear is charging you. 10mm is the best of both firepower and rate of fire. With power and capacity beyond 357, it's everything you might need in a woods gun IMO. You won't kill one of those monsters with a half inch hole, especially when they tank their own kinds hits like it's a sack flower.

    One thing people always forget to mention in these is that, out of the box, with zero mods, you can load .40 S&W and have zero failures. I do it at the range all the time. I have shot 500 rounds through my gen4 G29 with a mix of cold and hot .40, and cold and hot 10mm, with both 10 and 15rd mags with zero failures. The G29 is the by far the most versatile pistol ever made.

    I just got my G 20 last week. I can't believe that people complain about the recoil, being heavy, blah blah blah.
    When I started in law enforcement I used 357 magnum. Then we went to the 40 Smith.
    The G 20 is no problem if you know the basics. If you focus on the fundamentals, train a lot on your own money. Then through this training you become better.
    I have a Glock 21 sf. It has a lot of recoil. I think more than the G 20. I love the 45 acp. It's an excellent cartridge.
    10 mm ammunition is not expensive to practice. I usually shoot about 500-600 rounds a month. I train for personal defense only. I don't use the bear and heavy loads.

    • @undergroundminer3262
      @undergroundminer3262 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Especially if you buy a heavier recoil spring.

    • @jasonw598
      @jasonw598 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Underground Miner try the DPM multiple spring Recoil Reduction System it helps with felt recoil and muzzle flip but mainly it saves your frame from a beating when using hot loads. 10mm was meant to be a 200 grain bullet traveling 1700 fps and in my opinion settling for weak loaded ammo is not an option.

      Ya but the size doesn't change. One of the reasons why the U.S. Military ditched the 1911 was because 8 rounds of .45 in a magazine is rather pathetic. It was certain that they were going to change to a 9mm pistol. They obviously view magazine capacity as being more important than bullet power. Even the new SIG pistol they switched to is 9mm.

    10mm was one of the calibers I never owned, or fired, until I bought my Glock 20. I fell in love with the caliber immediately! It’s accurate, powerful and feels so natural in my hand. I added a better connector, did a minor under cut on the trigger guard, added night sights, Talon friction grip and full length stainless guide rod. Stainless pins were added for appearance and for corrosion resistance if it gets wet in the woods. I plan on buying the model 40 for hunting and the 29 for Summer carry. I have numerous handguns, including a total of 6 Glocks, of various calibers. The Glock 20 is my go to gun and always travels with me in my Jeep, sits on my night stand and is always within reach in my home. Did I mention that I love this caliber?😁

    So...10mm for the hood AND the wood!
    That they subsequently shied away from it does nothing to undermine the science. They have opted for 9mm because it is sufficient. But it is not superior. 10mm still is.

    Thanks. A good common sense video addressing the 10mm, which is a reasonable compromise for anything short of Brown Bear or Grizzly Bear territory, in which case (in my opinion only) the 44 magnum is the smallest compromise round if your safety is truly a priority (and it should be). Generally, there are no second chances if you encounter a Brown Bear or Grizzly Bear. And most people in an emergency situation would not be able to make a CNS (headshot) shutting down the attack immediately. Forget those "I know a guy who knows a guy who killed a Grizzly with a 10mm". It's not worth the risk to lay your life on the line for one of these stories. If you ask a Park Ranger or Fish & Game officer, I expect that they will set you straight. You never know what you may be up against in terms of its size or aggression level. There's a huge difference between a 300 pound Black Bear and a 700 pound Brown Bear for example. Be safe. Get home to your family and friends. Don't take unnecessary risks. As for Ted Nugent, you may want to leave him out of your reviews...

    I held out on buying a Glock sticking to my usual Smith and Wesson Gen 3 10mm for most of my adult life then the S&W M&Ps. I ended up selling my S&W 10mm a little while back and regretted it as soon as I did as I replaced it with a 9mm for greater round capacity. In the Marines I was trained with the 9mm Berretta 92 so I was confident in the round for stopping people. Once I lost my wife I actually moved out of the city and back into the country where the loss of my 10mm was felt because of the threat of wild predators but I hated the 8 round mags for the S&W 1006 along with their inflated prices.
    Anyway I bought a Glock 40 gen4 MOS in 10mm and I could not be more satisfied with a pistol in my life. I am not a Glock fan boy by any means but to be totally honest I would rather have the Glock 40 over any S&W M&P chambered in any round, especially since the S&W M&P does not come in 10mm to my knowledge which is a huge mistake on S&W's part if you ask me. The 10mm is a far superior round to the 9mm in speed and hitting power not to mention if you have to shoot through light barricades to hit your target, like a car or inside wall.
    Out of all the weapons I own my Glock 40 is what I carry now with my mags full of Winchester silver tipped hollow point rounds. If you are going to buy a weapon to carry you might as well pay for a quality weapon that you can depend on and insure that you can protect yourselves with it by training correctly.
    The reason FBI agents were shooting more poorly was because of the power of the 10mm and I for one would rather practice with the more powerful weapon until I can defend myself with it safely than depend on a weapon that is easy to use right out of the gate. Even the 9mm +P doesn't cut it against the 10mm and while the 9mm will kill someone without doubt the 10mm will do it with less rounds on target, period. If you get caught in a life threatening situation, even though some people think that they are movie star characters like Dirty Harry, all shots fired are not on target so I want my shots to count.

    I've been running the 10mm Glocks for decades now. Amazing firearms and even having grown up on Magnum revolvers, I find the G20 makes them absolutely obsolete and antiquated. I've got 3 generations of G20's (2, 3 and 4, looking forward to the Gen 5) and a Gen 4 G29 (Not a big fan of the 29, I wish it was the shape/size of a G19/23 frankly cause the short grip sucks and the grip ext. moves independent of the frame which is a big thumbs down) and I carry the Gen 4 now, in a Kenai Chest-rig, religiously here in the NW when I'm in the backcountry and even as a CCW weapon in the colder months. I hand load specific loads for wilderness carry with solid-copper, shaped rounds (hard-cast lead is actually really poor performing by comparison, look into solid-copper, cause... it's vastly better in both penetration and soft tissue damage) but honestly SIG Elite 10mm is about the best 10mm ammo off the shelf you can get outside of Underwood (I don't like Buffalo Bore I find them to be a bit gimmicky and not very consistent). Also, those Glock holsters SUCK, come on man, they're GARBAGE, get a good Kydex system made-up before you loose your pistol... it's happened to me back in the day when I first started carrying Glocks

    • @jasonw598
      @jasonw598 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dee-Bee Kooper you are 100% correct about the solid copper ammo, try Fort Smith TUI (tumble upon impact). It penetrates level 3 soft body armor and the tumble that happens after impacting soft tissue is devastating. I know this post is a couple of years old but for some reason the Fort Smith TUI still hasn't really caught on.

    • @sailingmaster
      @sailingmaster 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Glocks use polygonal rifling. Glock recommends that you don't use lead (non-steel jacketed) bullets in their guns. Because of the shape of polygonal rifling, there is an increased chance of lead build-up in the rifling grooves over time.

    • @ChukesOutdoorAdventures

      I didn't know that about the polygonal rifling thank you!

    • @AZTrigger
      @AZTrigger  7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      If you shoot a steady diet of hard cast bullets out of a stock Glock Barrel it can do damage to the rifling due to buildup. Some of the heavier Buffalo Bore 220 Grain ammo can also tumble out of a stock Glock Barrel. Here is what works for me: my outdoors carry loads include 200 Grain Underwood hard cast bullets and I practice will FMJ loads. When I do need to shoot the hard cast bullets which is very infrequently, they are no trouble. If you do find yourself shooting them with a steady frequency (not sure why you would want to), then you can always buy a drop-in barrel from Lonewolf that will handle all of these you want to put through them.

    Older video but I just watched it. Very informative. I have a Gen 4 G20 and a RIA 5” 1911 doublestack, both in 10mm. They both have the same capacity. To me I always explain the 10mm like this…it is a dual personality cartridge. You can shoot the regular 180 grain FMJ and the recoil feels no worse than a regular .40 caliber S&W round. And in actuality…to me it is less snappy due to the larger frame needed to run the 10. With that being said… once you switch to the more exotic ammo like the Underwood this cartridge turns plain nasty. I carry the 200 grain red hard nose myself on my property for encounters with pigs or whatever else I come across. Or they make lighter hollow points traveling at ridiculous speeds. This is where that cartridge shines and you go…ok, I see now the devastation this round can cause. One last tip…you can buy a drop in (Alpha Wolf) barrel for the G20 in .40 caliber and use the same 10mm mags for practice & plinking because the ammo is way cheaper right now than 10mm. Then just switch back to the 10mm barrel and reload your mags to hunt with the more expensive round. You are not going to see much difference in shooting the 180 grain FMJ vs the .40 except in price. And…because the G20 has the larger frame it makes shooting .40 S&W ammo feel like a 9mm. 👍

    I agree, the Smith & Wesson has a double reset that I don't like, the Sigg has been known to discharge without pulling the trigger, 1911s need too much cleaning in 10 mm, the Glock 40mos in 10mm is the only one in this group that is better than the 20 or 29. But the 40 is hard to carry for self-defense. But as a great gun for the woods. The only one other of these that I would recommend as being second on the list is the XM elite by Springfield.

    Actually S&W developed the 40S&W. The 10mm came about for the FBI as a result of the lack of shot neutralizing from the 1986 Miami shoot out. So the FBI started down loading the 10mm and Smith developed the 40 S&W. Again, the most important aspect of 4 leg self defense is heavy for caliber and shot placement.....CNS. I have always liked the 10mm and last year it proved it's worth. We were up in Alaska where my friend has a high ranking job in the wildlife management of most Alaskan areas and what not. Another friend and I got convinced especially when he said he would pay for our flight. Hunters and Outdoorsmen all of our lives Alaska is like the Holy Grail in North American big game. Also what made this trip even better was my buddy had aquired a moose tag. Well I've. Never seen such great quality of large game animals, all the way from things like moose and Elk, very big quality bucks, and what I wanted to see, the ultimate North American game animal, the grizzly bear, or brown bear. He told us we were in some land that was actually having a problem do to overpopulation of bears there. While on my friends moose hunt a call my other buddy gets to check out this small town called Big Bear, population 200. It was more of like an outpost where people rode in on snow machines and even dogs and sleds to purchase anything from new chainsaws to generators, a must in that part of Alaska. Anyway there had been several incidents of a very brazen bear that was coming into the place at night wrecking havoc. It had killed a horse this time and severely wounded the other. On top of this a hiker was mauled by what he described as a large grizzly. He was saved because some other hikers hearf his screams and one having a pistol was able to get this bear to flee. We knew this bear was big and Game and Fish wanted it dead. We went along with our buddy still looking for a moose, but all cocentration on this bear. I had my glock 28 10mm with me and that was it as I had no reason to be carrying any high powered rifle without a tag. We set ourselves up in an area where he seemed to be coming in from most of the time, but to no avail. Next day my buddy sees a massive Bull Moose and although he scores to what looked to be a damn good shot to the boiler room, the moose runs into some very thick terrain. We find blood and began to navigate through this nasty area expecting to come up on him soon. Then it starys drizzling and we lose the bloodtrail. We were searching about a hundrid yard radius and could not find it. Next day we go out again to look in this area because of its thickness and vegitation even a downed moose could be within twenty yards and you can miss him. Lets expand the search further out was the plan and while in this one thick area my buddy stumbles across a lot of blood and curiously a lot of moose hair. He calls me toward the area because you could tell that the damn moose either crawled this way into some thick vegitation and trees or was dragged down into a dense little canyon. He suddenly sees the moose's huge antlers and begans approchingn. I'm following but have not caught up to him. Then suddenly I hear a shot followed immediately by a second. That damn grizzly had found the kill and dragged the moose off during the night to a place he liked and began eating it. My friend startled the bear and he charged. Unable to score a hit or even scare it, it continued charging. I got within forty yarfs pulling my 10mm out, gap closing fast by this point bear is 20 yards and closing. I fire a shot striking his shoulder, still coming, I'm firing again and this time get ucky hitting him on the head. These grizzly skulls are no joke either, and I was using hollow points so I wasnt sure if Ide get any good penetration. My third shot missed and then suddenly he took a nose dive. Dead seven yards in front of us. So it turned out this big old bruiser was the bear creating all the havoc. My lesson and proof to anyone is that if you can stop a charging grizzly that big with this caliber, then let alone a human. Great sidearm for bear, good for humans, but way overkill and penetration. Anyway the 10mm you cant beat in especially. Semi- automatic handguns.

      @@markstark7731 changing the barrel and spring. Look it up. There are a ton of conversions. I think there is 11 calibers.

    The G20 and 29 are my favorite Glocks in my collection and I recommend them to my friends. I definitely want to add a G40 to my collection.
