Exactly. I think that every time I watch Jordan's old vids on TH-cam. C'mon, why has somebody not done this yet. I'd pay hundreds for digitally re-mastered old footage of Jordan, and so would many others. Can you imagine if you could buy HD copies of Jordan's first 5 seasons, every game? They wouldn't be able to keep enough of them in stock people would be buying them so fast.
Man, you beat me to the punch on this game. Everyone needs to watch this game to see what young MJ was capable of on a purely physical level against his adversaries. Every move is 10 levels above anyone else's past or present. Pure absurdity. Thanks.
The GOAT. Some of these highlights are rarely seen. Most people that make MJ highlights always use the same footage from "Come Fly with Me" "Playground", "Airtime", etc. Bascially, very rarely do people actuall search the orginal footage for never seen highlights.
Micheal Jorden was the best player that I have ever seen, I was watching the Chicago Bull almost every game, and because Chicago Bull was very popular team, so most of the games will be shown on Tv, all I can say Jorden was the best.......and will never be another MJ.
During the 1984-1993 period, it would be extremely difficult, bordeline impossible, to pick any single game of Jordan, regular season or especially playoff, and not find yourself completely glued on your seat gettin'all pumped up by the spectacle.
The 80s was far more exciting to me too then the 90s. Jordan would drive in the majority of the time and get past 5 players in many cases to score especially when his team was down. This is when he averaged the highest scores. 90s was more about the jump shot, fade away for Jordan along with the triangle and a more involved team.
the most impressive thing about him as a rookie was his ability to constantly switch pace with the shakes and stutter steps pull ups: you don't know what he is going to come at you with. all these moves and yet he is lightning quick and can glide through the air.
Just check out how explosive he was! Did you see that play at the end of the first half when he flew to the basket for the dunk! He was even faster than I ever knew! The Best Ever, MJ!!!
Man, Michael Jordan was so explosive off the dribble when he first came into the league. His studder step around opponents was just amazing. I mean he was at midcourt with for about seven seconds dribbling the ball and suddenly he took off like a fighter jet on a runway. At 2:43, he went upstairs into the attic and straight up dunked on the Pistons' defense. He took them to the hole!! That was cold!!! M.J. was scary good!!!
Just look at how many highlight plays he made in this ONE GAME. This is what people don't understand about Jordan -- his creativity and talent were off the charts. He could create shots that no one else could. From '85-'93 you would see 4-5+ plays a night that were just mind-boggling, and even from '96-'98 you'd see a couple each game.
Raidori17 Well you can quit hoping because that'll never happen, not in your lifetime, not in any lifetime. That man was simply spectacular. They'll be talking about him 1,000 years from now, watching him like we are now, going WOW! :)
Tim Baker kobe was close, he has the same level of skills, but not the same mentality/approach MJ had to the game. i mean, kobe is as competitive, but he keeps shooting until he gets going instead of effecting the game in other ways. he also isn't as athletic and his hand are smaller so he doesn't have as much control over the ball. Lebron is close, has the athleticism, and the right mentality for the game, high iq, but not the level of shooting and playmaking skill that MJ and kobe have. KD is putting up MJ numbers too and he is only 25, but he is not an elite defender on the other end of the floor. so there have been guys that have gotten close to that level, and there are millions of athletic freaks out there that love basketball. statistically speaking it is only a matter of time before another great comes around.
MJ as a rookie averaged 28 ppg on 51.5% shooting, with 6 apg, 6 rpg, and 2.4 spg. Many people also don't know this, but he actually led the entire league in overall points in his rookie season. Good freakin grief that is just beast.
Putting Kobe and Lebron in the same equation as MJ,,just watch this His Airness playing as rookie. ESPN should stop comparing MJ to these 2, he's the GOAT......
Damn, I didn't realize how explosive he was off his first step. That air time is absolutely surreal. Only person who comes close is Kobe Bryant and even he doesn't stay up in the air as long as Jordan did. Whenever he palmed the ball and did those double clutches in mid-air....nothing represented Jordan more than those moments. DAMN.
Not only the 6 games of 40+ points in his rookie year, but Jordan displayed an incredible all-around game from the very beginning. This included games of 34/8 reb/8 ast, 45/7/11, 32/12/8, 35/14/15, 45/8/10, 21/10/10, 49/15/5 (this game), 37/14/5, 27/9/14, 32/11/16, 20/9/10, and 35/8/10 among others. He recorded 10+ boards 12 times that season, and 10+ assists 8 times (and then two more times in the playoffs). Just an amazing rookie season.
so true. he is obviously the only one with all the elements maxing out, including the rare big hands for players in his size. when he was about to make his first step from a stand-still state, it is impossible to stop him due to the fact that he could put the ball anywhere and then follow the ball with his insane quickness and explosiveness. when you can palm the ball so tight and move it across your head like it is glued into your hand you can do so many thing that most cant.
@sha broussard bird was a beast and the fact that he never gets called the goat is a bit outrageous. He has his case . I can't blame isiah for picking mj , bird was playing better than mj individually in their battles, not by much though
No player.... including Kobe, Le Bron, Drexler... and many others..., has ever had the style of Michael Jordan in his prime ('84 - '99). People can argue all day long about whose the best, most effective etc. But MJ did it with style.
Jordan is the only rookie in NBA history to lead his team in four statistics. He led the 1984-85 Chicago Bulls in scoring (28.2 ppg), rebounding (6.5 rpg), assists (5.9 apg) and steals (2.4 spg).
i love that clip of mj where pip saves the ball from going out of bounds and jordan snatches it with one hand in the air and even moves it around to emphasize the catch, then drills a 25 footer off the glass.
Allen Iverson speed, Bird clutch, Wilt Chamberlain size hands, Carl Lewis type athleticism, Mike Tyson meanness, and no one matched his will to win. That move at 2:40 is what no other player has been able to do. He covered the length of the floor as quick as LJ without the ball and he's much smaller. With the ball no one was faster down the court.
Quick to accelerate, quick to leap, hangs in the air, jams it home. Jordan is probably the strongest guard the league has seen, he can take a bump in mid air
amazing. how many seemingly very difficult shots he made in this game? as a rookie, even though his moves are less refined as his later years', he still played like a veteran. so poised, so confident.
Honestly, I think Kobe could have benefitted from a year or two in college. MJ played three years in college and was a National Champion, Naismith Award Winner, Adolph Rupp Award winner, John Wooden Award winner, USBWA Player of the Year, ACC Player of the Year and Olympic gold medalist, all before playing his first pro game. When he entered the NBA, he was ready.
It's better that he played in a tougher era. He loved challenge, he loved to showcase his abilities under the hardest conditions. MJ wasn't obsessed with stats. Scoring 60 points against a weaker team meant nothing for him. He would have rather scored 45 against the best defensive teams. If his team was having a huge lead he would rest, giving the bench a chance. He was obsessed with winning, whatever that meant, taking the game in his hands or making room for his team mates. This commitment for the team is something most stars nowadays don't have. That's why MJ is my hero, because he had not only the game, he had the attitude.
@mnkhan2020 Don't forget Jordan averaged 28.2 ppg as a rookie and led his team in ppg, rpg, apg, and spg. Jordan as a rookie would be leading the league in scoring if he was in the 2010 NBA Draft class. Career highs for a top 5 player in this decade as a rookie. Truly amazing.
It's actually 2 seconds from about 36-38 feet out to a dunk. Pause it RIGHT when it turns to 2:42 and then it turns 2:44 after he dunks it. Just insane speed and explosiveness.
Wow, Jordan took it to Isiah this game. Just abused him. Holy COW @ how fast he moves from 2:42-2:45 for the dunk. No one at his size has ever had his quickness. And he was still growing into his body his rookie year -- he was at his quickest from '88-'90 imo. And look at how fast he gets from halfcourt to a dunk at 3:40-3:42. Wow. Like a streak of lightning.
thats crazy how he knew the pass was coming and he jumped so high he deflected it so they wouldnt get a fast break and gets it back and gets the shot off and the foul...gotta love mj
Man I forgot how good MJ was as a rookie. He was a unique player. Kobe is great, but he is a copy of Jordan. MJ created his own style and a whole generation of guys patterned their game after his. Does anyone know how old MJ was when he came to the NBA?
Exactly, Jordan was about getting the ball into the basket. He was not trying out for the Harlem Globetrotters. He showed his dribbling abilities when he confounded Larry Bird in that 63 point game with the in between the legs dribble/Ali shuffle.
There is a little story behind this game that fired Jordan up. It was the first game after the allstar game in 1985 (Jordan's first game) when some players on the east apparently froze Jordan out. Isiah was supposedly one of those players and Jordan wanted revenge. Look at the quickness at 2:41 - Jordan is standing at half court - at 2:44 he is dunking the ball. Three seconds from standing at half court to dunking. No one has ever been that explosive.
2:37 announcers scooting up in their seats, crowd on their feet and saying "Oh shit watch this", camera men battle for a good spot on the floor, 23 to tower ready for takeoff...copy you're clear for takeoff
@mnkhan2020 not only that..MJ always elevated his game against hardest teams and at playoffs..whereas Kobe has had his point records vs weak teams like his 81 point against Raptors. MJ never bothered to perform like that with weak teams. He brought his best with tough teams. MJ GOAT for sure.Although Kobe is great we have to admit that, perhaps the best active player today, but surely not the GOAT
Michael plays a different game than anyone else ever did. Plus today’s game is so soft, and that the players are more interested in their brand and spotting up and taking 10-15 three pointers a game. it is a very different game, very timid and soft. Michael is the greatest of all time.
some big men like hakeem and shaq can palm the ball too, but they dont have the same type of explosiveness mj had. but still if you look at hakeem he obviously benefited by his large hands like mj did. mj big and strong hands also allow him to do way more moves in the air when he is dunking the ball, which explains why his dunks are way more graceful than say leborn, wade , and kobe.
The NBA was a totally different game back when Jordan played. 90's basketball was the greatest, it was real. LeBron would not be as good as he is now, had he played ball back then. The game has changed.
Actually MJ ranked 3rd in scoring behind King and Bird in his rookie season. He shot an astounding 51.5% from the field. Next year MJ is sidelined with a broken foot and Dominique wins his first and only scoring title of his career. Wilkins has to thank MJ for that cause if not for the injury i think MJ would be too much for Wilkins to handle.
U again, NEVER know what the hell you're talkin' about.. In '88, the NBA actually tried to stop MJ with an "Anti-isolation Rule". It disallowed 2 players from gathering at the FT line with a perimeter player at the 3-pt line. This was to limit MJ's offensive tear from '87 & it was called the "Michael Jordan Rule". He joined Mikan & Wilt as the ONLY players with rules designed to limit them. They, for their size, MJ for his "skill"..
@HeatRising nobody is forgetting that, it just doesnt help Kobe's case much. You could argue Michael's rookie season was better than any of Kobe's. Kobe is a great scorer, but he is inefficent, and has never shot > 50%. Sure, Kobe got 35 a game one year (which MJ did twice), but he shot 45%... where Jordan career average is 50%, and would be higher if not for the Wizards debacle. That's not even considering rebounding, passing, and defense where MJ is much better. Especially defense.
Because these Kobe lovers never saw Jordan play in the 80s. If they were to sit down and watch games from that era, they'd have to change their tune. Because there is no comparison.
49 pts, 15 rebs, 5 ast, 6 stl. G.O.A.T.
All MJ footage needs to be remastered in everyway possible and put on blu-ray.
Exactly. I think that every time I watch Jordan's old vids on TH-cam. C'mon, why has somebody not done this yet. Agreed, except it was true his whole career. But also check out Dr. J.
The 80s was far more exciting to me too then the 90s. Jordan would drive in the majority of the time and get past 5 players in many cases to score especially when his team was down. What's crazy is MJ led the league in total scoring in his rookie season. And his field goal percentage was over 50%. Crazy.
Crazy is understatement more like INSANE haha 💯🐐

Michael making a fool of Isiah Thomas all over the court.
And Thomas's rookie card is only worth 15-20$
Which is why that whole team still dislike mj
when u score 60 points against larry bird IN THE PLAYOFFS. U know ur on another planet.
My trip to TH-cam is never complete without Michael Jordan... Rookie or Older
No wonder Isaiah doesn’t like him and says LeBron is better
At 3:40 MJ just glides through the air for the dunk. It's insane how he was just embarrassing the league as a rookie. There will never be another.
Lebron didn't even come close in his rookie season nor Kobe.
idk about ever, but he is the greatest for now. hope there will be someone to surpass him in my lifetime.
Raidori17 Well you can quit hoping because that'll never happen, not in your lifetime, not in any lifetime. That man was simply spectacular. They'll be talking about him 1,000 years from now, watching him like we are now, going WOW! :)

Things that MJ did are unrepeatable.
MJ IS A CHAMP GOING INTO ANY ERA AS A ROOKIE

Love it! No threes! Imagine if even just 8 of his shots were threes, he'd have been on 57 pts!
so natural, poetic, and fluid the way he played.
His name was called more times in one game than my name was called in my whole life 😭
Damn, I didn't realize how explosive he was off his first step.

@sha broussard bird was a beast and the fact that he never gets called the goat is a bit outrageous. He has his case . I can't blame isiah for picking mj , bird was playing better than mj individually in their battles, not by much though

@sha broussard Even though Jordan roasted big bird as well, so much so that bird called him god.

Boristos Jaxon Kareem won in 1976. I think the Lakers went 40-42
Drew Filson thank u i never knew this

U again, NEVER know what the hell you're talkin' about..
In '88, the NBA actually tried to stop MJ with an "Anti-isolation Rule". It disallowed 2 players from gathering at the FT line with a perimeter player at the 3-pt line. This was to limit MJ's offensive tear from '87 & it was called the "Michael Jordan Rule".
He joined Mikan & Wilt as the ONLY players with rules designed to limit them. They, for their size, MJ for his "skill"..
His first three steps are like LIGHTSPEED !!!!
wow, that studder step is unreal
Lebron could only dream about having a game like this in his rookie season 🤷🏾
Thanks for the post, amazing
SMH...
"And gets it down off the window.. I think he triple clutch!!" @3:05
And that was routine of him.
