I find it ironic that I found this video today, it was confirmation for my last project. I just finished an afghan (my design) done in double crochet and single crochet. It was done in a rush for a friend who had to have emergency surgery to have her foot removed. I wanted to have a blanket for her, to comfort her in her recovery. It turned into a prayer blanket with me praying over every stitch and it needed to be "mindless" because my mind was elsewhere. I loved that I had a gift to share and it meant so much to her. Mindless is good when life is overwhelming💕

I am a beginner crocheter at age 54 after having a stroke, I thought learning to crochet would help heal my brain. I’ve been working on learning to make one grannie square for over a year and guess what…I successfully completed one square yesterday 🎉 I felt the same accomplishment as I did the day I earned my graduate degree. 😅 not giving up & not being afraid to make mistakes made huge difference.

Hi Elise, loved the video today. We have so much in common. I too love having a simple project to work on from time to time. I am a firm believer that there can be much beauty in simplicity. Not every project has to be a mind blowing challenge to be a unique and artistic expression. I don't do well personally with too man WIP's so what I usually do is have one challenging project going and one simple free flowing one in my basket. That way I can pick up whatever one suits my mood or pain level. I have a three easy afghan patterns that I have made many times over the years one is made in panels and then stitched together. The other is a hexagon granny square. The third is a unique ripple afghan that I once saw on tv made by an Amish lady. It has a slightly different pattern than most ripples and I have made several as gifts over the years. I just finished my ballerina teddy bear and am getting ready to sew the head onto another doll. Ever since I found your channel I can't stop making amigurumi! I no sooner get one done than I am beginning another. You have opened up the whimsical side of my imagination. I am having a blast. It is really also nice to have the opportunity to use up some of the little bits and bobs in my stash. I hope you have a lovely day ahead!

Absolutely love everything! My grandma taught me to crochet(knit a little) when I was around 9 years old, the granny rectangle was the first pattern she showed me. That lady could look at her toaster, blender, or whatever and whip up a cover complete with flowers embroidered on the outside. She also came up with a scrap yarn blanket that was awesome, using alternating dc and single crochet rows. Also, she would pre-roll the various scrap yarn balls into two sizes, one that equaled a sc row, and one that equaled a dc row.

I absolutely love this video! I knit, quilt and crochet. I purposely crochet simple blankets for the exact reasons you share. My hands are busy, and my mind is working, but without needing attention to a pattern. I happily crochet through movies, family gatherings, passenger princess moments (because my husband prefers to be the driver), and I am so fully present, because with my hands working and my brain not checking a pattern, I can keep my mind on the conversation. AND I love Lucy of Attic 24 forever, she introduced me to StyleCraft yarns so many years ago. Keep making such great content!

Listening to your videos has been keeping my mind alert. Although I do not knot or crochet, I do have a passion for bead-weaving and fused glass. Many if your ideas and suggestions are great for akmost any art form and I will be applying g them to mine! I downloaded two of your free tools, the project journal and how to use up scraps. In both my glass and beading I have small amounts of leftover beads and I am inspired. Thank you from a new subscriber!

Thnx, i needed this - being almost 52(6 August), but feeling 35😊, i told myself, 2024 is going to be mý year, more time for mé, selfcare(my 30yr. old son is disabled and i care for him 24hrs a day) - a simple or 2 crochet blanket projects, are in mind(love the alphine, star, popcorn & smock stitch) and to try some more tunisian crochet projects. I' m also always tend to challenging myself with more advanced projects, but always loved the easy, simple mind crochet items i see on social media etc. I'm also going to keep myself from buying more hooks, i have more than a handful of Furls and many others too...maybe a nice tunisian hook/set... It is full summer here in South Africa, many days too hot(42+°C) to crochet, handling yarn or wool, BUT i need to keep my promise i made for myself, me time❤ and doing what i love thé most, crochet.

I actually just finished a HUGE mindless crochet afghan for a future grand niece/nephew not to be born until October. I thought for sure it would have taken me MONTHS to complete it. All I know is I watched 15 movies, so let's say less than 45 hours from start, frogging that all out, restart, to end grand total time. It's the German Shells meets Granny Square. It's 72" in a square, so baby will have their own forever afghan 🥰
My toss-aside is going to be a movie snake. You may have heard how people are doing book genre snakes? I'm doing one with the movies I "watch" (let's face it, we don't really watch anything while crocheting 😂) and go from there. I'm 15 rows of black for my favorite 1970s - 90s horror classics (Child's Play and Nightmare on Elm Street & some Stephen King as well). I ADORE mindless crochet patterns!!!!!

Yes, I have one of those projects. It is a blanket, I foget the pattern's name, using varigated Red Heart yarn. Believe it or not, my mindless crochet must change stitches or I get too bored and won't work on it. This one is simple changes of double, triple (going into the row below), double, and chain one. Ending a row is a little different with 2 doubles. It's fun and easy.

Im battling depression and adhd right now, and both my therapist and my friends suggested taking up an easy to learn and fairly mobile hobby to to both keep me busy and give me something to provide a sense of accomplishment. I can get hold of cheap crochet hooks from the dollar store to start with, and I actually have a ball of yarn lying around (no idea why though). Once I get better with the basics, I think these will be some good resources for projects to take on.

Certainly I just started learning and I'm much more excited about amigurumi but I usually find myself gravitating towards the TLC blanket by All In A Nutshell that I'm working on because I don't have to think. It's designed to teach you crochet so it starts with a row of sc, then a row of hdc, and gets more complex (right now im making granny squares to add to the blanket). It is great to not have to count stitches because you're just going to the end of the row, and you can get into such a flow.

Ok, not only the projects themselves, but the art you used of beautiful people knitting and crocheting in lovely, cozy spaces was so inspiring! I love crocheting on my couch on my days off with my husband, daughter, and cat all around me also doing their own thing. My husband is usually reading, my daughter is either also crocheting or on her phone, and my cat is purring on someone’s lap. We don’t even have to talk to each other (though we often do) but that homey feeling I get is something I will always treasure.

@@pixxepiees1182 You’re absolutely right, I’ve learned a bit more lately about how AI incorporates the work of human artists without crediting them and without consent. I’ve seen some tips on how to be able to tell the difference between real art or real images and fake AI ones, (including on this channel!) but unfortunately it’s getting harder as AI evolves and becomes more ubiquitous. I truly hope artists are eventually able to get some kind of legal recourse, because that’s the only way things are going to change.

I have to stick with mindless projects for the most part! As a homeschool mom and Pastor's wife, i am so busy during the daytime hours that i usually dont sit down for "me" time until 10ish at night. Crochet is my relax activity. I love handy work projects and am a creative person, so i use crochet as an outlet for my creativity. However, i cant do anything too complex that late at night! I end up frogging a lot if i try! Thanks to you, though, i have finally given basic amigurumi a try & i love it. I do better sneaking in a few rounds of that during the day while schooling, though, (but it's difficult to squeeze it in.) I can do some at night, but it's very slow going! I've just started one using my daughter's stash of odds and ends (she's eleven) and I taught her to crochet two summers ago, and she is fab at it ❤ She collects yarn from all over, and I had give her some bits and bobs, but she has become a yarn snob (already 😂) and doesn't want to use them, so it's going to be a little blanket ❤
I also love to make the heat pads where you chain, then single crochet down one side, do three stitches in the end space, meaning you turn around the corner, so you single crochet down the other side, and do three single crochets in the end space, then you just single crochet around and around (one stitch in each space) so eventually it folds in on itself ❤ When it meets you sew the edges together ❤
