      Jus curious, why are there many 'moss' stitches.
      I've seen one w/alternating sc & hdc on a row. At new row u do opposite...meaning where u had a sc on prior row u now put hdc & where u had hdc u now put sc.
      I would appreciate if it wasnt different ones though.
      I like ur moss st A LOT better! Thank u for sharing : )

      New to your channel. I have crocheted a few blankets using just aa simple chain stitch, trying to branch out and learn a new stitch.
      I tried to make a sample following what you've shown, my work does not have a rectangular shape like yours, mine looks more like a spiral staircase, haha! My stitches are loose and even. Hmm .. need to watch the video a few more times to see if I can figure it out.

      @@virginiaseedsskogen2038 Did you forget the chain stitchs when you turn to start a new row or miscount ? You need to make sure they are a consistent size as well . Watch your tension as you make those final stitches at the end of the row chain one, two etc as you end turn and follow directions. If the tension is even and chain size consistent you will have a " squared " edge on the following row . Good luck !

    Such a pleasant tutorial for this lovely flutterby. And, YES! That's not a misspelling. I've been hooking since my great grandmother taught me to crochet lace when I was only 4 or 5. And, 55 years later, I'm still hooking. I just followed along while using one color from my scrap yarn box, and turned each row. And, YES! I remembered to back post single crochet every other row to ensure the 3 running bars would remain on the right side. I used a worsted weight yarn & a K/6.50mm hook to achieve a larger flutterby. I've been looking for inspiration for a new unique afghan, and have decided it will either be made of hex blocks inside the ring of 6 of these beauties. I'm guesstimating each completed hex block will measure 14-16 inches across.

    I've been self teaching crochet for years and the moss stitch is probably my favorite visually. There's no gaps and it's a visually flowing pattern (your eye won't get stuck on any one visual aspect of it) and it's very uniform in density

    • @randomhumanoidblob4506
      @randomhumanoidblob4506 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      Couple of things maybe?
      1. Run a row of slip stitches along the edge then use those as the basis for a border. I made a shawl with this as the basic stitch and doing that gave a beautiful edge - I just crocheted a couple of rows of SC but you can make it as simple or as complicated as you want.
      2. Start each row off with a set number of SC - say, four singles then start your moss stitch. Then you have the border incorporated. But slip stitches are deffo your friend for borders, even for a messy learner like me 🤗
      I've tried both but I like the slip stitch version for the cleanest border, especially if you're using mixed stitches. And I'm only a beginner so if I can do it you'll be able to with your eyes closed!
      I can't link other tutorials, that wouldn't be fair. But Robin did a moss stitch shawl on here and she shows you how to put a neat edge on. Alternatively, try searching terms like finishing, preparing for a border etc. etc.

    Great tutorial. Thank you for explaining EVERYTHING including the colour changes and which terminologyyou were using. I'm a lifetime knitter but, would like to try and learn crochet and, l do find it frustrating when so many tutorials assume knowledge many of us don't have. I've recently finished knitting a scarf in 4 colour linen stitch where the colour repeats were carried up the side in an icord edge. I was super happy with it but this looks much simpler (l kept messing up the icord). Looks like a perfect stash buster project too. The other scarf nicely finished up the leftovers from a Fairisle pullover l knitted for my daughter.

I came across this today and started watching. Your entire presentation has made me want to start again in a new direction. I'm so excited. I learned this 60+ years ago. I think I should start your beginner option. That will allow me to fix a few bad habits I developed.

    Just starting out crocheting and I have to say you explain this very well and make it very easy to follow! I feel like it is easier to understand then some “beginner” videos I have seen. Can’t wait to try this stitch out!

    Now THIS is a great beginner tutorial. I only recently got into crocheting (through Arigumis) but wanted to try a blanket. Everyone uses such complicated stitches or don’t show how to do it properly, but this tutorial is amazing. Thank you!
