Thanks so much for this fantastic video. I used a combo of a generic window cleaner, Dawn with water and ammonia...about 1/2 ammonia, 1/4 window cleaner with about 1/8 cup Dawn and 1/4 water. I then cut the garbage bag covers for each window, sprayed and covered each window (I also sprayed on top of the plastic to make it very easy to smooth out over the window. Then it sat in the bright sun for about 1 hour. I continued with the instructions and...PRESTO! It peeled right off with practically no residue to clean up. For the little glue blotches left, I took some steel wool and sprayed the same solution; the glue lifted right off onto the steel wool!

You need to use the blow driver as you as you are pulling off the tint. Heating little sections and then feeling back the tint while it's still warm. That way it removes the tint and the glue off so you don't need to scrape afterwards

Thanks for the Windex tip. I had a small amount of Windex, tried it and it worked. I had to stop when I ran out. I had gone into a dollar store and saw same generic blue glass cleaner and wondered if it would do the same. Since it was only a buck I figured it’d be worth the risk, and if it didn’t work out I could use it on the outside. I was shocked that it worked just as well as the Windex. I think it’s the ammonia, which both brands had. Cheers!

Every adhesive is different. The type of adhesive in this video is fairly straightforward and easily comes off. Sometimes no glue will be left behind at all, other times you're dealing with something more aggressive and multiple razor blades will be needed. The real test is a back window - something pinkish purple - those are fun :). A steamer is the way to go, but cheaper ones usually don't cut it. Thanks for the video.

I was watching another video on how to remove tint off of windows. The guy was using Conair vapor machine and he did the job pretty well without any residue or any lines. The reason of leaving line residues is that the tint is cold and hard. Once the heat impacted on it, it'll come off pretty neat.

If you use a heat gun to heat all of the tint up, it comes off very easily, without leaving the glue behind. Pull the tint with one hand while using the heat gun with the other hand, always keeping the glue heated up as you go.

After watching for tricks and tips, I used heat gun but just a little heat, move it around, no hot spotting or you will crack glass, or use hair gun like him. Then I use gugone spray for the glue removal, and finish it off with your favorite glass cleaner, i use "clear glass". Have a 2005 Honda Ep3 with nasty discolored purple with horrible streaks and bubbles from previous owner. So glad i can see better, especially at night and in these South Florida thunderstorms.

THANX! My dad's truck had tinting on the passenger side window and nowhere else. It was that way when he bought it. Since he passed away about 4 years ago, it's gotten really hard to see through. I think I'll get the old elbow grease out and give this a go!

I think if you had sprayed the top of the window, once you'd pulled a little tint sheet back, keeping liquid between the tint and glass, the liquid would have lubricated the glass and the tint would pull off easier.

Thank you so much for this video. My car was bought in 2014 but the Bahamas heat quickly damaged my tints. I was fed up...the tints started to peel off so I rip it off the glass. I started to wonder what I've done lol. It was like that from last summer 2019 with the glue gunk on my back glass. It's just my 2 back passenger windows. I'm now wanting to call in sick tomorrow to get started on this glue removal. If it's not baked on already from being like that for so long. Hopefully il come around to update you on the process. • @soullessdevice
      @soullessdevice 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Be warned, it mostly depends on the type of tint and how long it has been on there. I tried doing something very similar to this and the glue was much stronger on mine. I used all kinds of things and ended up trying WD40 and it still took hours to scrap it all off. Then I realized that there is a flat fee for someone who does this everyday to do it and it's not much. Regretted doing it myself.

I know this video is a few years old but this helped me a lot when I took the tint off my car. A few little shits in the neighborhood used a BB gun and shattered my back driver window. Old tint held it together. Got that replaced and drove around for a while with that being the only non-tinted window. Back when I watched this I decided to take it all off on the other windows for the same reason. Tint was bubbling and peeling. Shop wanted $160-$220 to take it off. Said it would take 4-6 hours to do. Watched this video and the peeling only worked for one window haha. Every other window was peeling in random strips. I eventually got it off using this way and spraying them down with Windex, covering that with a trash bag and having the heater on full blast. Peeled the trash bag, and tint came off with it. Went over the actual glass with more Windex to get the left over glue and presto, clear clean windows. Paid $100 for fresh darker tint after that.
There were also cats around me while doing this, but none belonged to me, all random strays that appeared and then disappeared when I was done. Great video and great way of showing how you actually did it.

    Good vid bud.
Just removed 20 yr old tint from my car about 5 minutes each window. Heat gun then the windex and razor blade for the glue easy as.
Now have the rear window with the defroster to worry about. Unfortunately it didn’t want to work the same on the back window. I guess 20yrs of Aussie sun just makes it come off in little pieces instead of a sheet of tint.
    Thanks.

Ok so I did this today. Started at about 10ish this mornin and just this minute finished. I was lulled into a false sense of security. The tint peeled off evenly and easily, oh wow this is simple I thought. Now all these hours later I've finished the whole car and it looks 1000000% better. However I'm now covered in little balled of glue I got a lousy headache and my right arm is 70% thinner than it was when I started. However I didn't have a blade so I just used the cloth wrapped around a finger. Holy shit hard work. But it's done now so thank again for he upload matey. :)

Unfortunately windex only works on tint glue that only a few years old. My rear windsheild tint is at least 10 years old and i had to use heavy duty solvent-wax and grease remover, spay it on heavily then put a plastic garbage bag on the surface of the sprayed glue and let it soak for half a hour out in the sun. It dissolved the glue and i wiped it off with a rag. Wd-40 also works using the garbage bag method but you will need isopropyl alcohol to clean the glass surface afterwards.

@Brianna Trevino another great way to dissolve old glue is use ammonia mixed with water 50% of each, its stinks but it also works very well. You don't even need the garbage bag and sun if you use ammonia and water. Put a old sheet or towel down to cover the areas you don't want liquid getting on. And of course use a new razor blade,I went through 3 razor blades doing my whole car.

State inspection stations in Texas now check for the darkness of window tint and if you don't pass, then you have to get it removed or you won't pass the required inspection for your license plate renewal. We had a vehicle with window tine and had driven it for years like that, but when we went to get the annual inspection this year it did not pass because of the darker tint. They just started checking this at the inspection stations so it was something new for us. My wife had the Honda CRV taken to have this done. They just did the front windows and it cost about $45 bucks. Wish we had seen the video prior to that to do it ourselves. I just purchased an '04 Dodge Ram 1500 Hemi pickup yesterday. I can't stand the rear view mirror, as the window tint in the back windshield makes it always look as if I am driving on a dark night, even in the bright sunlight. I'll be trying this out to remove that tint very soon. I have a steamer, so I will also use it when I do the truck up. Thanks for posting.

After removing the sheet of window tint with a hairdryer I found that ethanol was much better than isopropyl for removing the glue streaks . I found that wetting the residual glue with ethanol on a thin piece of cloth and then rubbing it of slowly was most effective. Frequently changing to a new wiping rag was needed because the glue gums up the rag very quickly.
