You are a genius! I am a "woman of a certain age" and I was able to do this on the back passenger windows and the back glass of our new-to-us Honda Civic. I feel invincible! Also, relieved. My husband and I are still keeping Covid-safe and I was dreading taking it to a shop to have it done. Plus, it was free! I feel like we should send you flowers or something! Can't thank you enough.

Excellent advice - removed 16 yo tint on rear window (with defroster lines) of 2007 Mazda 3 sedan using this method. Came off in one easy process. Used my digital thermometer and measured the temperature after 20 minutes in the sun as 60C (140F) and it just pulled straight off (time had obviously split the tint on two defrost lines, so needed to restart from the edge at those points to remove as I worked across the window) with no glue remaining. Saved a lot of hassle. Lots of others on TH-cam advise the same method, but this from a professional gave me confidence to attempt. Thank you so much.

The black trash bag stuck to the window absorbs and holds the heat, which evenly heats up the glue in the tint film and that is why it peels so even and easily.

I just bought a used Honda Pilot online and I did not notice the 7-8 inch dark window tint on the front windshield. Didn’t want to go the heat gun and razor route so I’m glad I saw this video. 10 minutes to get everything together, cut and place black plastic. Waited 30 minutes and then it only took 5 minutes to peel. Amazingly easy. Perfect video and great method.

Thank you so much. The back window on my mums car had an old tint which was impairing visibility. I admit to being sceptical but this method worked brilliantly. It was for once a sunny day in Ireland so was able to follow this method - worked like a dream. Was left with adhesive on the window but some nail polish remover took care of that. Thanks for sharing!!

Excellent instructions, worked for me. Amateur Tip: Measure the windows, make sure the plastic bags you get are large enough... I bought 30 gallon black bags (don't use white like others have demonstrated), 30 gallon bags were too small. Had to get 39 gallon lawn and leaf bags to fit my window. Also, the blade that I bought fresh from HD had a serrated edge like a bread knife!? never seen that, thought they were all smooth bladed! (the serrated edge made trimming away excess bag a PITA - so get the right blade.) Did it during a sunny 92 degree NY scorcher, this probably helped, used plenty of soapy spray on windows. One of my cutouts fell a bit short in a corner, and the bag/film had a few minor bubbles in a few spots, but after smoothing the bags as best I could (using small window film tool), waiting the suggested 15-20 minutes, and getting an edge started with my fingernail, they all came off nice and clean, barely any glue leftover, minor glue residue easily handled by windex and a razor blade. I was a bit skeptical/cautious, so I did the front set first, but then quickly confidently did the rear ones. Thanks for posting these great instructions!!! Just saved me $200, some of which will go towards the violation I got for having over dark tint! (the car came with the dark tint from another state, hated to remove it, but don't need the hassle...) ☮❤

I am like the others. I rarely leave YT comments but this worked exactly as your video showed. I had some windows that looks slightly "foggy" after the removal; however, I took a paper towel and my nail polish remover and glided over it and they were crystal clear. Used a spray bottle with plain water that I use to spray my hair with right off my dresser and it was enough 'spritz" to make the garbage bag stick. I didn't even cut my garbage bags pretty; I just made sure they were fitted over the window and overlapped. Use the ice scrapper that came with my freezer to tuck it around to get the tint that was up and inside the window frame seals. You made this super easy! It is USA-SC weather; so didn't even take but 10 minutes to let that car get hot inside and those bags to heat up the glue & release it!!

  • @mikemixson559

I did this over 4 years ago in my yard but I didn't use water and no cutting. Just put the bags over the windows and let sit for an hour or 2 in the sun. Easy peezy but, I did like your method trimming the bags to overlap the windows 💯

Super video, gonna try it on my vw beetle. The tint on it is lumar and has been on the car for 17 years. Many years ago I had used kleenex tissue that had menthol and lotion to wipe down the condensation on the driver and passenger window. After a few hours, the tint had blurred and had a texture like fine sandpaper. Got a quote of 300 to remove the tint and 400 to put tint on. This video was super great. Thank you for sharing!

Thanks for the tutorial. This is really helpful. I bought an older Kia Picanto for running around town but the other day I took it on a long trip and noticed looking through the front windshield the far distance seems shimmering (like in the desert). I'm pretty certain that the tint isn't original as I can see some fish mouths around the corners. No way that's from the car maker. Here in Indonesia we get a lot of inferior products that are dirt cheap so I'm guessing that's the deal here. The tint doesn't look old and it's pretty dark. I bought the car from a young guy and he only had it a couple of years so I'm guessing the film isn't very old. So my question is should I treat this like the back window or are there other issues with front windshields I need to be aware of?

Thanks for the video. My tint was put on when my car was new in 2009. The bubbles had become crazy and were affecting my view out the rear window. I was able to remove the film and thought the adhesive had come off too but it wasn't so. I have used "Goof Off" to remove the adhesive and then windex. The Goof Off had seemed to work but I'm having to clean several times and there is still streaking. Not sure if it's the Goof Off or adhesive that is being stubborn. I will continue to work on it but am nervous about using a razor blade because of the defogger wires.

Thanks for the video, Patrick. I have two questions, if you please:
    1. Do you recommend a minimum temp range, e.g., ambient temp when you recorded this?
    2. For a pro tint applier with skills, how much time did the the whole process for side windows & back windshield require (including bake times)? I'd estimate it would double for the entire car, then another 2.5x - 3x the "🤬🤬" for the amateur factor (based on my personal experience with other auto finish work).
I'm trying to determine if it's worth my time to possible purchase a used car with tints & bring it to NYS, which has laws regarding maximum tint gradient.
    Thanks for the video!

Will spraying additional water where the edge of the tint sheet and glass meet (hot water of course maybe with the baby shampoo) be of any help when pulling the sheet off by helping keep the glue moist?
Soap added to keep the water viscous longer and help with dispersal and adhesion to the glass and vinyl bond zone.

Good method. Only really doable in a country with sun, ie not the UK in January!

Leave it overnight then use a steamer

Can we use heat gun instead of steamer after leaving the bin bag overnight? Don't have the steamer or can use the car's own windscreen heat method if possible. I'm trying to remove chameleon tint. Thank you - from Manchester, UK @@WindowTintingBusiness

I'm in Michigan. It's going to be cloudy and 40° for a high tomorrow. Might try the space heater with all the windows closed inside like somebody recommended. Don't know if that will do the same thing or not as parking it in the sun
