James Erikson there is a reason for the high charge. Side windows we charge $15 per window and $80 for a angled window (windshield/backglass). Side windows don’t take too long. Back windows on the other hand do take a long time due to not being able to scrape b/c of defrosters. I’ve had some cars take an hour but then I’ve had some take 3hrs to strip. Also the steam does not work on all windows. If the side windows are laminated the heat from the steamer can bust it. All windshields are laminated so using a hairdryer is safer. Our price is $100 for full car. I have seen some shops charge $200 which is outrageous in my opinion.

Windex takes the glue right off as well I learned. A blow dryer does the same thing he is doing. And how does the steam make it through the tint to the back side of the adhesive🤔

wow I wish I knew that when I needed to take my tint off. I had a older mercedes benz wagon and the tint was so bad I could not see out of it because it was so old and faded. Instead of removing the tint from the back window, I replaced it. then front windows I took off, I left the back seat windows alone. My passenger window was a pain and took over an hour to do, my driver side window was like 10 mins. it pretty much came off in one piece. I bought a scraping tool set at harbor fright where you can put a blade into it and scrap. easier
Is it just me or scraping the glue off kinda fun and satisfying. I personally think ripping it right off is quicker than slowly removing the tint. All the glue comes off in one scrape with a razor blade anyways.
Damn, thanks! It never would have occurred to me to use my clothing steamer. Ofc, I'll still have to wait until it's not like... below freezing outside to do it, just to make it easier on me. Plus, I'll have to find a place with an outdoor outlet (the house we're renting doesn't have an outside outlet oddly enough). My main issue right now is that the driver sideview mirror is like half-tinted - like someone tried to remove the tint and left a long thick smear line of glue behind. I can't hardly see anything in it. Honestly, if I can still find the parts (it's a 2000 Chrysler), it may just be easier to replace the sideview mirror entirely. lol
It would be very frustrating to not be able to see out of your window. 🙃 You'd definitely want to wait until temperatures are warmer than freezing, or until you have access to a garage that is warmer, before heating the window with a steamer.
@@InstallProz Fortunately, the front windows (driver/passenger/windscreen) are clear of tint (which is required by law in my state - I'm up north). But it's like someone tinted the driver's side mirror at some point? I don't even know why anyone would do that. The back window on the driver's side is also tinted and it was definitely hard to see out of when I was checking over my shoulder for a lane change. But it was also very foggy out and I had my defrosters going full blast, so that probably played a big role too.
He’s gonna steam the glass with the steamer... thank god he’s not steaming the glass with his rockin personality.... Good clip thanks for the handy tip.
I tried to remove the rear window ting on my 04 mustang and it appears that I pulled the clear film only and left a second film or glue behind. not sure if its film or just glue. Any advise? I did not use steam

@@conversationsindesign1 yes, any steamer will work. It will also work on the back window with defrost. If any glue is left behind, just use a white scotch bright pad to remove the glue.
@@InstallProz thank you! Unfortunately I stripped two out of four windows but didn't realize it would leave residue. So I have to deal with that. Should I use the heat on just the residue before I scrape? Thanks again.

I went out and bought a steam gun because of this but it's still coming off in little strips and I'm having to scrape off almost all of the glue with a razor. Are there any other tips for super hard/stubborn tint. I think mine is a thin film with super glue lol.
If the tint is so old , it's got a purple tint to it (store bought), that would be the time I'd be willing to try this. Other than that, I have little trouble getting tint off of a vehicle.
At about the 7 minute mark, it is recommended to use rubbing alcohol and water, and then says 75% water, 25% isopropyl alcohol recommended. Since rubbing alcohol is available in different percentages (50% to 99%), are you referring do using already diluted rubbing alcohol (like from a drugstore) and diluting that again with water, or using pure isopropyl with water, to achieve a 25% solution? Please clarify, and thanks for the video.
While we have only used the steamer in our shop to remove tint, we have seen videos that show people spraying the film in the back window with 409--which would help breakdown the adhesive on the back of the film--covering the film with a black plastic bag, and then leaving the car in the sun for an hour or so. We have yet to try this method, but we have seen a handful of videos showing people using it.
A heat gun will work, but we don't think it works as well. If you use a heat gun, we would suggest heating the window from the outside so you don't burn through the window film.
Car dealer sold a car to my brother in HI last yr & now his car won’t pass inspection due to the tint. Hope they remove it for free! Any idea? (His plates expired in May, but he was overseas).
HaveFaith33458 it’s unlikely a dealer would remove the tint for free; fortunately, removing the tint yourself it’s difficult 🙂. We offer pre cut patterns if you decide you would like to install a lighter shade of tint.
If the tint is so old the steamer isn't working, you can also try using a heat gun. Here is the link to a video showing us using a heatgun and a steamer to remove window film. th-cam.com/video/bkrlnMyNlws/w-d-xo.html
Ersid Velaj you are very welcome. If you decide to put new film on, check out our computer cut tint kits at www.installproz.com. We have tint installation videos available on TH-cam, should you need them.
you need to warm up the glass on the out side to release the glue from the window and not the film. then use windex with amonia and scrap any glue left behind in a down ward motion (stainless steel blade)
You can use a heat gun, but it's best to use it on the other side of the window so you don't melt through the tint. We like the steamer best because it allows you to heat the film without risking melting it.
While we prefer the streamer, a hairdryer or heat gun could also work. If you use a heat gun, heat the outside of the window so you don't burn through the tint.

There are other ways to remove the tint, this is just our preferred method. This video demonstrates other ways of removing tint th-cam.com/video/E1W0yZGaFHw/w-d-xo.html
You can also use 409 and a sponge for glue but method with steam is great
Thank you for your insight
Could you provide the make and model of the steamer?
Perfect, i tried and did it in ~10-15 minutes, thanks:)
You're very welcome. Happy to hear you found it helpful
No way! I have to do this too now=)
"Goo gone" is the best for removing glue and you won't have to use a razor. Great steam method!
Windex takes the glue right off as well I learned. A blow dryer does the same thing he is doing. And how does the steam make it through the tint to the back side of the adhesive🤔
@@seanmuehlhauser9612 it's not supposed to make it through the tint, it just heats up the glue
Carbon steel blades can etch your glass, but stainless steel blades won't. We'd suggest using stainless steel box blades to remove the adhesive left on the window..
Thank you for your comment and insight.
appreciate it.
this method worked perfect for a 2001 monte carlo ls.
a 2010 ford f250.
great video. [obviously works on ever car make lol]

Which one is better between steamer and heat gun because I want to remove tint in my window and back glass.
The steamer is generally better in our opinion.

Do i need adhesive remove product after , steam
Would a heat gun just work also tho ?
Yes, a heat gun can work, but it won't work as well as a steamer. This video will show you 3 ways to remove tint. th-cam.com/video/E1W0yZGaFHw/w-d-xo.html
wow I wish I knew that when I needed to take my tint off. I bought a scraping tool set at harbor fright where you can put a blade into it and scrap. easier

You can use the steamer on the residual glue too and it'll wipe straight off
Richie Aprile you are exactly right! Thank you for your comment!
Is it just me or scraping the glue off kinda fun and satisfying. I personally think ripping it right off is quicker than slowly removing the tint. All the glue comes off in one scrape with a razor blade anyways.
Thanks for the proper education for the fact there of ,,,,, great vid '
You are very welcome 😊
Good clip thanks for the handy tip.
lol
Ouch! 🙃 thank you for your comment.
I have never seen a window tint with that large of a light gap. It's almost a whole inch! Who tinted that window? Crazy.
Crazy indeed. You can see why they wanted it removed. 😊
I tried to remove the rear window ting on my 04 mustang and it appears that I pulled the clear film only and left a second film or glue behind. not sure if its film or just glue. Any advise? I did not use steam
Roel Garza what did you use to remove urs. I have to take mine off for inspection this month
Nice relaxing, informative video. Thanks

Does anybody know what the window tent or in Alabama how dark I can put it I was told I could put the part window 5% 32% on the front

Where did you buy that steamer??
Costco, but you can get steamers at a number of places, including Walmart
@@InstallProz So any handheld one will work just as good? Also, will it work for the rear window too with defrost lines?
@@conversationsindesign1 yes, any steamer will work. It will also work on the back window with defrost. If any glue is left behind, just use a white scotch bright pad to remove the glue.
can you use a heating gun if you don't have a steamer? Thank you!
Yes, you can. You would just want to heat it from the back (the exterior of the window)
@@InstallProz thank you! Unfortunately I stripped two out of four windows but didn't realize it would leave residue. So I have to deal with that. Should I use the heat on just the residue before I scrape? Thanks again.
@@Whitesp44 no, just spray it with the water and baby shampoo solution and scrape the glue off with the razor.
@@InstallProz thank you sir
@@Whitesp44 you're very welcome.
Great tutorial. But fyi the steam isn't what we see coming from the machine. You cant see steam. So I'd hold the steamer a but closer to the window to get the best effect.
We will keep that in mind. Thank you for your comment.
USE DAWN DISH SOAP WITH WATER SHOULD BE STEAMING THE INSIDE OF TINT . VERY SIMPLE PROCESS. WAX N TIME AUTO RESTORATIONS.
Thank you for your insight
What about the back window. How did you remove it. Any video on how to do it

I have super old tint on my car, it's actually purple now, the film came off easy, the glue oh my freaking dear!! The glue was almost a nightmare to remove!
It really is. Steaming the glue and using the white scotch brite pad to scrub it off is a good way to remove it. You will go through quite a bit of scotch brite pad though.
A simple plumbing torch will work as well. Just needs a little heat
There are many ways to remove tint. This is just our preferred method. We appreciate your insight. We have put together a video showing more ways of removing tint. th-cam.com/video/E1W0yZGaFHw/w-d-xo.html

How did it end up going for you?
the back window of my car has factory tint that has a green haze. any way to make it a little clearer?
The DBZ Collector, we are not aware of any way to alter the factory tint to make it clearer.
I went out and bought a steam gun because of this but it's still coming off in little strips and I'm having to scrape off almost all of the glue with a razor. Are there any other tips for super hard/stubborn tint. I think mine is a thin film with super glue lol.
Jeff Chartier are you removing the film from the front windows or from the back windows?
What brand of steamer are you using?
We are just using a regular clothes steamer purchased from Costco
If the tint is so old , it's got a purple tint to it (store bought), that would be the time I'd be willing to try this. Other than that, I have little trouble getting tint off of a vehicle.
U made my work easy thanks
Johnny be good you are very welcome! Thank you for your comment!
Excellent boss👌👌
Happy you found it helpful
Yeh. thanks. Can I borrow your steamer?
😊
Condensation is not good in unventilated spaces (ie behind the door panels) it just causes mold
Most car doors have plastic in them and small holes at the bottom of them that allow moisture to run out without causing mold or other issues.
We recommend using Isopropyl alcohol that is 70% to 80% alcohol.
Will a heat gun work also?
A Heat gun will work, but we'd suggest you heat the outside of the window with it so you don't just melt through the film.
is there another option if you dont have a steamer?
While we have only used the steamer in our shop to remove tint, we have seen videos that show people spraying the film in the back window with 409--which would help breakdown the adhesive on the back of the film--covering the film with a black plastic bag, and then leaving the car in the sun for an hour or so. We have yet to try this method, but we have seen a handful of videos showing people using it.
Work great for me 👍👍👍
Happy to hear it helped
Wouldnt a heat gun work just as well?
A heat gun will work, but we don't think it works as well. If you use a heat gun, we would suggest heating the window from the outside so you don't burn through the window film.
Good work
Couldnt u use a hairdryer heat gun ?
You can, it just doesn't work as well.
beautiful tutorial. thanks.

I'm guessing it's the heat that does that. so wouldn't a heat gun or maybe even a blow dryer work? just a thought.
Jason Thomas use a heat gun. I did it and it worked fine
With heat You run the risk of burning the film and make a real mess unlike vapor.
Alejandro Egusquiza the film is going in the garbage anyways...
You can scar or crack the glass with just the heat gun. The steam and vapor keeps the glass temp on check which greatly reduces that risk.
Fucking lol.... go ahead! No tho....
Will this work with 25 year old tint too?
If the tint is so old the steamer isn't working, you can also try using a heat gun. Here is the link to a video showing us using a heatgun and a steamer to remove window film. th-cam.com/video/bkrlnMyNlws/w-d-xo.html

you need to warm up the glass on the out side to release the glue from the window and not the film. then use windex with amonia and scrap any glue left behind in a down ward motion (stainless steel blade)
no you dont...as we just saw....
I would think that it would be more beneficial to hit the tiny side rather than outer glass
Interesting insight. Thank you for your comment.
, awesome idea, what about a heat gun ?
You can use a heat gun, but it's best to use it on the other side of the window so you don't melt through the tint. We like the steamer best because it allows you to heat the film without risking melting it.
Nice work, but will a heat gun work or a hair dryer?
While we prefer the streamer, a hairdryer or heat gun could also work. If you use a heat gun, heat the outside of the window so you don't burn through the tint.
