    Which product is best for window tint removal?
    In this how to remove window tint glue residue video, we test out several different alleged solutions to this problem to see which product is the best for window tint removal. Treat this window tint removal like the engineering issue that it is. Soaps and cleaners don't cut through window tint glue, they are simply poor window tint adhesive removers. You need a solvent to cut through all that window tint glue.
    Remember that window tint glue adhesive is just a type of glue that needs a solvent to loosen it up so you can wipe it off. With the right product, window tint removal will be a cinch, and you won't have to order any special tint adhesive remover chemicals to remove tint glue residue.
    How to remove window tint glue residue:
    We found during our testing here that fuel injection and carburetor cleaning products like Gumout and Berryman B-12 Chemtool Carburetor, Fuel System and Injector Cleaner seem to do the best job of all the products we tested to remove window tint glue. The reason these remove window tint glue so easy is because these products contain solvents, which eat through the window tint adhesive glue like butter.
    Window tint glue removal tips and hacks
    Acetone helped a little bit to remove window tint glue, but remember it is not a tint adhesive remover by design, it is meant as a nail polish remover, but still has some effect for tint glue removal. The tips in this how to remove window tint glue video can also be used to remove window tint adhesive from car windows.
    window tint adhesive removal
    You want to avoid using a razor blade when trying window tint glue removal from rear windows of cars with rear window defroster wires. Instead, your tint glue removal process in this case should involve a solvent like the B-12 Chemtool Carburetor cleaner, to avoid trying to remove window tint glue with a razor.
    Congratulations, you now know how to remove window tint glue from glass windows in your home, or car windows. These concepts here will also work on your car rear windows with the defrost lines, because you don't have to use a razor blade scraper to remove the window tint film, or the window tint glue removal. Now you can show others how to remove window tint glue from glass.

    I had to tackle this project, removing the oldest, thickest Safety Film from a sliding glass door. A sharp scraper is a must. Regarding products, I had great success spraying WD-40 liberally onto the residual glue and scraping the glue in one direction into piles & removing with rag. No solvent will allow you simply wipe off any real volume of glue; you must scrape it off. The WD-40 doesn't evaporate quickly like all those solvents & of course the lubricant allows the blade to travel smoothly. A "foaming/scrubbing bubbles" bathroom cleaner does a great finish...

As I tried window cleaner, garbage bags and heat, scraping with a razor, I noticed a bottle of something on my work bench. One thing obvious to me, from this demo, is that 'water based' solvents don't work but petroleum based carburetor cleaners do. Also, with a good petrol solvent it shouldn't be necessary to use abrasives, scrapers, etc to remove film adhesive residue, Of course, once this residue has been removed by petrol solvent, then the solvent, itself, must be cleaned up with a soapy water/ammonia solution.

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem sometimes is getting the solvent under the film to break up the adhesive. This is why window tint companies often us a garbage bag to tent the window and let the sun bake and heat up the adhevie.

    • @wordcarr8750
      @wordcarr8750 3 ปีที่แล้ว

We have been using old towels and paper towels for removal. Please advise.

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Paper towels will cause more streaks, don't ever use paper towels to clean windows, or windshields on cars. Have you tried a hot air gun to soften the material and see if it comes off? Also many better window tint shops to get the old tint off the cars will tape plastic bags over the window after they spray and let it sit for an hour in the sun to make a greenhouse effect and soften the adhesive to get the film off.

      What the professionals at the window tinting shops do, is they get garbage bags ready and then they spray the product on to the window Anne tape the garbage bag over it inside the car of course, and let it sit out in the sun for two hours and so the sun heating up the window causes a greenhouse effect because the plastic trash bag is now sealing up the whole area inside the window and the cleaner is able to kind of steam its way through and that's what they say is their easiest method of removing the tint.

    Jeff, in my highrise apt the living room wall is all windows,it does have OLD tint on it BUT there is this crystallize type clear film that's over the tint, it's so hard to remove, it's gotta be wet and I use a plastic puddy scraper to remove it, everything else I try is spotty in removing it.....what the heck is this film? I cannot find a answer online....windows look dirty with this film on it...if you need more info I'll email a photo if need be...thank u for any advice.

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Serea: This looks a lot like what I had on the windows in the condo of that video that you mentioned. It could be an additional layer of clear film to protect the tint, or it could be part of the window tint film that has de-laminated. Have you tried our final solution of spraying that carburetor cleaner on the film, and does it help? you have to keep in wet with the spray and keep scraping it while it's wet. In some cases, it might be better to just have a glass company come in and replace the glass panels if it is unrecoverable.

    99% alcohol from Costco. Had to do it in layers. I didn’t use the blade for the glue, is used it to get the initial film off. After the initial layer came off I tried a natural glass cleaner which made things worse. So another round of alcohol did the trick. I had to wait till the best day to touch it up in the daylight

    A woman would have used a new area for each cleaner instead of using the SAME window quadrant for EVERY solution. (insert eye roll) So according to your video, if you use ALL of these, ON TOP OF EACH OTHER, eventually your adhesive will come off!

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah but a smart woman would have realized that a product works or does not work. And if it does not work, then you don't need to move on to a different area. All you are looking for is a product that works, and each one dries within seconds of applying. In fact, even the products that did work you can see that you had to keep it wet with the product in order for it work. So the palate is basically clean again, just like when you are tasting wine, you wait until the taste of the first wine is gone before you continue. And no you are wrong, because we did a lot of testing before rolling the video, and no adhesive eventually comes off like you claim, unless the solvent you apply is a real solvent that dissolves that adhesive.

      You are wrong, ammonia does not dissolve 40 year old adhesive, only a solvent works on that. Also, with the chemicals I used, there was not much of a smell at all, once it dries you don't smell it anymore, and besides, we use window cleaner afterwards any way so there is no residue.
