However this is a live performance. Therefore I will NOT be scoring, evaluating, reviewing, or reacting to the song itself in any way. I will ONLY be scoring, evaluating, reviewing, and reacting to the LIVE PERFORMANCE. How's this one gonna go? Only one way to find out...

The guys in Rush just work so well together. None of them have egos to satisfy so if a song requires Alex and Neil to just chill in the background so Geddy can stand out, they do it. If a song let's Alex absolutely shred his guitar to death, they let him. If it's one where Neil can really just show off and beat the shit out of every drum up there, they let him. I think that's one of the ingredients that has made Rush so good, for so long... they never ever let ego come in the way of what a song needed. Love that this one just gets to be a softer more mellow base groove to chill to. One of my favorites to listen to when I want to just calm and relax.

Well I'd actually never heard this one before. But it's excellent. One of the best bass songs I've ever heard in fact. Playlist material! It's a fair score based on the live performance. Great reaction!

Sir you are so correct, love the way Neil just compliments Geddy on the bass. Does not do a lot of fills, but just keeps the groove. Alex does the same thing, does a tasteful solo, but keeps it simple. Let Geddy be Geddy.
right and i've also seen a live version of this where they let Neil do a solo in this same song
I also love this song and I've seen this video multiple times and I'll probably see it multiple times again. This one is all about Geddy but Alex is, I don't want to say underrated, but I can't think of a better word. He's awesome and there's nothing fancy about what he does here, it just works beautifully. Everything these 3 guys did was incredible. They were so in sync with each other and they have an awesome sense of humor about it all. If you notice, Geddy's shirt says Rash lol

Forget Geddy's left around this time he was using his fingernails to get a pick like sound. Takes years for your nails the strengthen up. I'm with you David this is some of Geddy's best bass work.
I'm surprised he didn't break a string in the last 30-45 seconds of bass thrashing...almost seems like he was trying too LOL "Where's My Thing/Here It Is" from the Clockwork Angels tour is awesome too. He does his little bass solo at the beginning of that one instead of at the outro.

Great reaction! Definitely bass and drum driven! I think Alex was flying his model plane! (Or taking a nap..lol). Two more great live performances is “Where’s my thing… here it is” and “Malignant Narcissism”! You’ll get a 10 out of ten on one of those, for sure!! Be well and God bless… from Texas!!

Of course, I know Rush, like to listen to their songs from time to time, but I would never call myself a hardcore fan or specialist in relation to the band. And from exactly this point of view, I think your rating related to this performance is perfectly fine. There are countless better, more entertaining or more emotional performances that carry you away. However, the performance has done exactly what it should, in my opinion. A not too distracting show with soulful guitar playing, solid support and foundation by the drums to achieve one thing. Giving Geddy the stage, which he uses brilliantly. In the small musical cosmos I live in, without a doubt one of the best bass players.

My only (Minor) grape is the amount of time you spend talking about the nature of your reaction and how people misconstrue it, because I’ve heard it in like three or four different videos now and it just goes on a little too long for me. This not a bootleg, it is from the Time Machine tour, live from Cleveland 2011. They played the whole Moving Pictures album. It's fantastic. This is the best version of Leave that Thing Alone IMHO

Dave, I love you man, FEEELING YOU! But, you spend WAAAYYYY TOO MUCH time on explaining yourself and making sure the trolls don't misunderstand you. WHO CARES what they think?
