Le Studio was not even 30 minutes away from where I live in lower Laurantide up here in Quebec Canada. The video is a blend between the album studio recording session and a real TV video shot. You can see the different camera plans from real studio and video. This 3 mans band, a masterpiece in It"s whole style.

One of my best friendships was from me humming the song "Countdown" while playing chess with a workmate on a break outside in Vegas in '98. She recognized it and started singing it which nearly shocked me, especially since they certainly don't have a reputation of many female fans. We became instant friends.
We shared in Neil's passing even though I now live in Omaha, NE. And now I lost her last June, the most devastating loss outside of family I've had to experience.
RIP Colleen. Say hi to Neil if you can. Miss you so much.

RUSH - THE Greatest Canadian Band, ever...and there is some thick competition. As far as the Greatest Rock Band ever, on the Planet, they are certainly in the runnings. Geddy sings, plays bass, keyboards, and other instruments.

Aileen, Peart was voted number 1 in so many rock drummer polls, including Utube, Rolling Stone and Billboard mags. He also was a huge reader who had his own library with everything from Clancy to King to Tokien, and it showed in all the lyrics he wrote for Rush.

Imagine Geddy playing Bass while singing and playing keys with his feet at the same time, one of the best drummers of all time and a guitarist so special and with so much feel (plus Alex sometimes plays Bass pedals, especially when Geddy is on the keyboard and cant play bass). Iconic song. Aileen made an iconic and perhaps even a spiritual statement describing their play as "collective chaos". Didn't think it sounded like chaos because the timing and rhythm of everything is so precise, but there is a chaotic element in there. Rush was one of many bands of the 70s and 80s that my friends and I liked, but in retrospect, I've discovered that Rush was one of the most innovative and technical bands of that iconic era. I can hear the echoes of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Jimmy Hendrix in their style and sound, especially with Alex Lifeson's guitar.

"...it just shows you that they really, really care." That absolutely made my heart leap and I choked up there. I, like so many Rush fans, have been with them for so, so long and we absolutely know that to be true. And it is so very seldom that it is voiced in that way to someone so new to their music as yourself here in this video. After losing Neil, and consequetially the band, our hearts are still quite raw from the reality that life, as it does has left us. You are an incredibly beautiful soul and we all wish the best for you. Maybe one day we might become fans of your music as well, as you might take some of the influence that you have gleened from this amazing experience that is, was Rush. Shanti...

You have to listen to a Rush song 5 times.

Fun story... In the documentary Beyond the Limelight about Rush, at one point Geddy and Alex are in a little restaurant and the waitress walks up and asks "Aren't you Geddy Lee?" he says yes. She asks for his autograph, and Geddy asks her "Do you want his autograph as well?" referring to Alex, and she says sure... clearly not knowing who Alex is. Alex starts going off about how cool it is to be sitting next to the famous Geddy Lee. But in a way that clearly says he's giving Geddy a hard time and not that he's actually jealous or anything. Alex and Geddy had been friends since high school.
Alex is one of the greatest guitar players ever, he just had the fortune of playing with Geddy Lee and Neil Peart... Who are both GOATs with their instruments, and so they tended to outshine him. But Alex never seemed to care, he enjoyed making music with his best friends too much to worry about the rock star life and fame and the rest.
If you're ever looking for something fun to watch I recommend the documentary a great deal, you get to see people like Dave Grohl go on about how amazing Neil truly was. Another fun bit is the end where they try to play Tom Sawyer on Rock Band (the video game) and get booed off the stage... just before they go onto a real stage and play the song for real.

RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR!
With heart felt admiration and sincerity!

Been a RUSH fanatic since 1978. I have seen them 19 times live throughout the 80's, 90's and into the early 2000's. Favorite 70's album: 2112. Favorite 80's album: Grace Under Pressure.

I know you are learning how to play guitar. But I really think your a bass player at heart. You always get really excited about the bass in the music. I'm Bass player and I love bass. I appreciate your bass loving comments. Love your reaction videos by the way. Love to see new generations experiencing older music for the first time. Keep up the good work. 🤘🤘✌

When you asked about seeing Rush live and what performances were favorites, when Rush first started touring, they actually opened for Kiss, and something they learned from Kiss was to put everything they had into their concerts. My very first rock concert wast Rush on their "A Farewell to Kings Tour" back in 1976 or 77, and after every concert, the people in the audience were exhausted and exhilarated from their performance. They were so amazing live, and they were truly fantastic. Over the years, I saw them between 20 & 25 times, with the last show being their R-40 show in 2015. They were amazing and while they are greatly missed, thankfully they recorded many of their tours, and you can see for yourself just how incredible they were on stage. I also noticed that you seem to really enjoy heavier songs, and early in their career, Rush played much heavier music, influenced by Led Zeppelin and The Who. You might want to check out songs from their earlier albums, like "Anthem" or "Bastille Day," both of which are pretty heavy.

You should really dive into some live concert footage and see just how much they enjoy performing. These are three master-class musicians, including perhaps the best drummer to walk this planet.
