This song never gets old.
Many people consider this “the GREATEST song in Rock and Roll History”.
I would imply you're hearing more the influence they had on Metallica more than hearing a song by them. It has a Fade to Black-ish song structure in its build may be the song you're referring to??
Live next, followed by Kennedy Center Honors Tribute by Heart, please.
In My Time of Dying is one of my favorites.
Memories of the last dance with my high school sweetheart in the 1970s. Forever etched in my memory. It never gets old.
My sweetheart wouldn’t dance but still married him & had 2 sons by 79. Divorced by ‘82. We all make mistakes but still love Stairway To Heaven.
This song slowly embraces you, gently lifts you up, beats the living hell out of you, then lightly places you back to where it found you but you aren’t the same anymore
So true 👍
Wow, that was such a great description! Needs more likes.
Nice word picture, Kevin! As I read I imagined hearing *Stairway* live in concert with mobs of fans soaking it in. Can you even imagine? Lighters waving instead of cell phones...
That is the best description of how Stairway... Make me feel. Thanks for saying that
So accurate ❤
No Sample Tracks.
No Drum Machine.
No Auto Tune.
No B. S.
Just Great Lyrics.
Great Musicians.
Amazing Vocals, and you can Clearly understand the Words!
It's Only Rock and Roll, But I like it! 😁👍
Mike in San Diego. 🌞🎸🚀🖖
So true, the artists in our era were real. What we have now are fake,
I am 75 and I still enjoy this fantastic song. When it came on the Rado at dinner time my 3 brothers and I played air guitars while the parents waited for us to stop and went on eating....happy!!¡
BINGO they should try it now but it takes a legend and in my 6o plus years never heard one God bless those days!👏👏👏👏👏
This is not just Led Zeppelin's best song, It's one of the greatest songs ever
Yep.
Along with Bohemian Rhapsody and, hear me out, Welcome to the Black Parade.
I genuinely believe Welcome to the Black Parade is in that category of songs that very few songs ever get to.
My brother and I were discussing this the other day actually and these were the three we had.
Other songs that we think should be there are Freebird and One, but we weren't sure if they were as good as those other 3
❤

@@-Gax- And Confortably Numb
"the" greatest song ever
I'm 59 years old and can remember hearing this for the first time. Seeing someone in 2023 getting the same joy warms my heart. One of the greatest rock songs EVER recorded.
I'm 51 and was raised on this. You know it's good when people are still playing it sixy years later!
Agree 1000%
Saw Robert Plant with the Sensational Space Shifters at the Sydney Opera House a couple of years ago. The bloke still has it!
There is a video of Robert Plants son and his band doing this
Never mind "one of the"... it's been voted *the* greatest rock songs ever.
Imagine your 17 years old and your first concert is LedZepplin in Atlanta at Atlanta Stadium in 1973. I was blown away.
They were my first concert MSG 1977 June 10th and they blew me away and they became my favorite band ever I saw page and plant twice after JB passed away
Omg
Immigrant song
Wowwww..... how could you ever top that!
Wow
I was in my teens when Led Zeppelin put this out. I bought the vinyl, and this became #1 on my list. I was at a stage in my life where I didn't know what I would do in life. This song taught me I could choose which way I could go. It changed my life forever. I still tear up listening to it. In 3 days I am turning 71. I have been married for 46 years to my sweetheart. I have two wonderful children and two lovely granddaughters. If not for Stairway to Heaven, I don't know. It took hold of me and never let go. Still my number 1.
Aww God bless you ❤️😍! I am 61 years of age and I remember listening to this song on my little record player, after my sister and I bought the album 😁. Good memories ❤
And I bet your kids and grandkids know this music, too. My kids do, real well.
Congratulations 🎉 and thank you for introducing the best music ever, Classic Rock to your children and grandchildren. It never gets old !!
I’m 72 years old and this still makes me smile every time I hear it
I think it’s one of the best songs I’ve ever heard
❤
@@GabrielleMottern 67 and an absolutely beautiful song.
I'm 67 and this was the music of my youth. How privileged I was to grow up in a time of superbands and real music played on real instruments. So glad people of today can still enjoy these timeless classics.
Same here. We had that album in the 70's. Great song!I just turned 67 too btw. 😊
Makes me sad bc all the real music is gone. I'm 34 and my dad brought me up on EveryLed Zep album ever. No joke, he had all of them lol
Great job Dad🥰
😅Love this so much😂 My very favorite band ever!!!! And I love so many others, but Led Zeppelin is Legendary no one can touch them💯 All Zeppelin songs are great you need to do a Zepp.athon 📀 to know how really great they are!!!Thank you for show your the Best 😅
4 Songs of our Youth , Stairway , Free Bird , Roundabout, We Won't Get Fooled Again.
Imagine growing up when this music was THE music and just taking it for granted. We were so lucky.
Soooooo Lucky. Glad I was part of it to tell my kids about it. They LOVE Love Love it.
I'm 48. You, my friend are very lucky.
I never heard led zepplin until I was 10
I always ❤ it and still do!!!! So happy to have been born in 1963!
For shizzle. 🥹
Yes we were soooooo lucky
My Dad named me after Jimmy Page. I'm 38 and I grew up on Zepp. Best times of my life were sitting on the floor listening to my Dads Zepp records with him. Miss ya Dad ❤️
I really think it was a beautiful thing he did. Wear it well!
Bet Dad has the CD Box Set 😅
Well I love your Dad!! he had courage and great taste in naming you after one of the greatest guitar players and composers in history. I’m 66 and an art teacher at a very conservative school. I adore them and I always will. God bless bless you.
Sounds completely awesome ❤
I grew up listening to led zeppelin with my dad. He had all the albums on cassette in his truck. I was in 4th grade, music teacher asked us who our favorite band was. He was blown away when I said led zeppelin!!!. I'm the same age as you. I lost my dad last year.
One of my favorite last memories with him. I got him out of the house for one of the last times. I said let's go take a ride in the car.....we have a 73 dodge challenger stroked and bored 340 and a 4 spd. He got in, looked at me and said.....this might be the last time I ride in this car(it was) so if we going for a ride. We're going for a fucking ride! Crank up some led zeppelin and let's go!!!! I did just that. I beat the hell out of that car. Never drove it so hard but he had fun. Led zeppelin cranked and slamming gears!
Many consider this to be the greatest rock song ever written/played. ONE guitar. ONE bass. ONE drummer. ONE singer. In freaking credible.
My junior year in high school (1980) a friend was killed in a car accident. His younger brother played this song at his funeral. Shortly after his brother hit “play”, while the mellow opening is still playing softly, some adult goes over and turns the volume WAY UP! We all just smiled at each other knowing what was coming!!
By the end the windows in the little chapel were literally shaking! (no way, at this point, was anyone going to walk over and turn it back down).
It was PERFECT, and if there is a heaven, my friend was there laughing his ass off!!!!!
Made me smile!!!
That’s a great story.
Amazing
It will be played at mine as well.
What an absolutely wonderful anecdote! I, too, lost classmates during HS, and immediately after I graduated. These hit us hard, and bewildered us. I believe they also helped us. They helped us grow in experience and wisdom from a tender age, and prepared us for things to come.
Watching Robert Plant’s eyes when being honored at the Kennedy Center while Heart performed this song was indescribable bliss for me.
th-cam.com/video/2cZ_EFAmj08/w-d-xo.htmlsi=p3Ce5ac9dnSLyona
It’s still a heart touching moment watching John Bonham’s son playing with Heart and the amazing approval and the amazement on the faces of Led Zeppelin listening to the performance. If you get a chance, watch it. You will not be disappointed.
Definitely epic.
Which is saying a LOT because he's made it known several times that he's, generally, not a fan of people's covers of the song. I think the addition of the choir, orchestra, and most importantly John's son playing the drums using his dad's kit and wearing his hat really got him.
I agree, this MUST be the Live version to react to. Incredible. I remember going to a college pub in the early 1970s and Heart was the band. Who would have thought, she would perform Stairway at the Kennedy Center honoring Led Zeppelin.
I'm a 75 year old lady and this was our music... all the time... so now you see what we REALLY miss. Great to see your reactions!!!
Amen, fellow Baby Boomer!
Funny you commented…. I’m 60 in 8 days and feel the same. As an RN who has worked in LTC I made special playlists with ‘40’s & 50’s music to play for the clients. Then there’s the middle aged, cheaply dressed creepy ‘guy’ who goes in and plays old wartime music on the piano or banjo: have thought, recently, they best start Stepping it up in those homes… clients will start saving puréed food to throw at them!!! 😂 I’ve started a playlist of ‘60’s, 70’s, 80’s and even the odd newer tune that caught me… these classics will ALWAYS Rule… but the playlist is for Me IF I ever Have to live in a ‘home’ too! BYOM!!!! 😁💖🎶
I wish I could have been there...
I do too! It was epic truly the best time of my life@@foschti24
Keep on rockin😊
71 years old and I still get tingles every time I hear it.
68 and still love it!!! My first double album
85 yr.old w. woman here... can't agree w you more! Hope someone plays it while they burn my old bones.
I have been to a funeral that played this. Not a dry eye in the chapel. It is a beautiful choice.
Me too!
74 years old, my 52 year old son just passed, we both have this song on our WAKE playlist. Be pisitive people, less effort.
74 here too and cry every time I hear it.
Well said! 71 here and it's one of 2 on my list. (The other is "Oh Well"..Fleetwood Mac, for the lyrical sentiments & irreverence).
By the time I hear that live tribute, I will have learned the song and fallen in love with the track all over again. This one was special. Thanks for watching
Listen to the live video of Zeppelin at Madison Square Garden in 1973 first. Than watch the tribute version.
@@AngeloMarcheschi-vj9em That is exactly what I was going to suggest. You've got to be familiar with the studio version to fully appreciate the live version, and you've got to be familiar with the song to fully appreciate the tribute.
This song is number one on most best of lists. Any list that doesn't have this song in the top 5 is a worthless list.
I agree... what can anyone say after that. At 65, im so gld to know we have such appreciation for what this is in common
The Live version of Zeppelin @ Madison Square 1973 is absolutely incredible. I was born that same year and will be forever grateful I had aunts & uncles who turned me o to this incredible band when I was 3 years old. I have All of their albums (yes I said albums, lol) thanks to my uncle. You will always go on a journey listening to this band. So glad to see you appreciate the music. ❤️
If anyone tries to tell me that today’s music is in the same category as LedZeppelin, come up for air guys, this is on a different level ❤❤❤
Today's Music.......Generally that's an oxymoron.
This song, it brings you on a journey, first it beckons you to follow, then it holds your hand, then it runs and pulls you along and finally you are moving at warp speed with it. For today's music people are corrupted by social media content overload so there is a quick gratification impulse, if it doesn't do something within 3 seconds it is mentally swiped.
Another thing is music was not so direct to audience, they actually have to be curated by many levels before they would reach a radio station and even get airtime. Now someone makes music and stream it and it reaches mass audience immediately. Not that it's a bad thing but it caused so much "noise" and what social media algorithm does is it doesn't curate according to what's good, but what's liked by more people. And that's all well and good if what's good is what's liked, but like I mentioned now people want a quick/instant gratification instead of a journey so what the algorithm pushes out would be those instead and yes they do well cos those are liked by many and so the social media gets to serve more ads and earn more money and those pushing out bad but popular music also earns more money so kind of everybody wins but the effect is good music is lost.
@@thenandeInteresting assessment.
Tool comes to mind. Today is so oversaturated with mediocrity. But the gems are out there.
@@thenande Nothing in the past 40 years has even come close to Led Zeppelin
I’m soon to be 78 and so grateful this was the music of my generation. My heart still soars and sings mightily when I hear the music of the 60’-70’s. I made a great Road Trip playlist which I listen to when I take my old Mercedes-Benz 450 SL out for a ride. My daughter who is 40 feels the same vibe when she takes the car for a ride and hears the music. Thanks for all you do!!!
This song bound all us boomers together....the stoners, geeks, jocks and those that never fit in any category. It was a prom theme in every high school in America much to the chagrin of administration but secretly the teachers grooved too. Doubt there will ever be a time like that again....pardon me now while i crank up my Bluetooth and relive my teen years.
And Canada.👋🇨🇦
Amazingly perfectly said!
I'm in my 70's brother or sister , I'm still there , never left .'TO be a rock and not to roll .Respect, best wishes.
At 68 I can still rock !!!
72 years old and I still cry through most of this classic testament to excellence.
I was 17 when this was released, and am almost 70 now. It sounds as good today as it did back then. I was privileged to grow up when this type of music was around - and they certainly don't make music like this today! Awesome!!!
Same Here,, although I am A Techno fan, 2 Cellos, Beethoven,
Then I was 15 and my older cousin had the 8-track in his Gremlin. Greatest thing he ever did for me...
Our music rules!!!!
I'm 56 as of February, and I've always said I was born a generation to late. While my generation was listening to hair bands, I was listening to this and all the rest of the 50s to 80s
55. Professional musician partly because of this band.
I knew at 8 yrs old... Bonham just oozed pure rhythm.
Having siblings 10 yrs older than me, I always was hearing incredible music! Blessed to grow up in an Era where music was REAL!
Not, AI,Autotune, track filled Total CRAP!
Thank you for being rel bruh!
How lucky are you to have this in your youth! I grew up in the 80s and kept going to the ‘old’ songs for good reason ❤
I’m 70 and I still get chills when I hear this song!! ❤❤
I'm 62 and it made me cry listening to this today.
Turned 69 today chills all over! It never gets old
Me too!
I’m 62. And still love Led Zeppelin….
You ate so old, lol. I'm only 69. We feel the same about LZ. Grew up in Scotland and this was my teens.
I'm a 77 year old lady. This was the music we lived to, protested to and raised our kids to. Saw everbody who was great, not so great and was gonnaa be great. Thank you for reintroducing our music. Am a hugh fan of anyone who is open to music they never heard
I'm coming up on 64yo. I saw Zep's last show ever in L.A. 6/27/77. I played "Stairway" for my mom one time back in the day, I opened the album so she could read the lyric's and as she listened and read she started to cry. I think she understood at that moment why I loved the music so much. I hope to see her again at the top of the stairway one day.🙏💔
she's there
Thank you
Beautiful story!
I feel honored to have seen them twenty years later in Albany, their music is and will forever be timeless. Jimmy and Robert were a little bit older, but they still had it
My dad and stepmom were at the Day on the Green in Oakland when Graham's people and Bonzo got in a brawl I believe very shortly before the one you saw. Funny just remembered that other than this one song ... none of their LP's had the lyrics of any other songs inside ... they knew this one was extra special ;)
Jimmy Paige is one of the greatest guitarists of all time. He wrote the music, Robert Plant wrote the lyrics when he was 23 years old. One of the greatest R&R songs in history.
Agree Robert plant is the best so is Bonham on drums
Lightning In a Bottle.
One among few such cases, across the entire medium...
I think about that sometimes…23 years old and you wrote the best song of all time.
Definitely top 5 but in my opinion it's David gilmour
Not to take away from Jimmy in any way but John Paul Jones composed and played all the multiple recorders(Renaissance period flutes), as well as the electric piano harmonies following Jimmy’s guitar parts.
How fun was that to watch someone experience Stairway to Heaven for the first time!! It has all the things.
Dude you are fantastic. The way you clearly respect these songs and give your FULL attention is really amazing to see. Kudos man
I saw them in 1973 and when they did this song people 3 miles from the stadium complained about the noise!! I'm now 70 and have tinnitus. SO worth it!
Tinnitus in exchange for amazing music is worth it
Same in 75 at earls Court.
Yeah, man..I saw Led Zeppelin in Tampa Stadium in 1973..one of my favorite experiences...
@@t.j.payeur5331 I was tre.. fk! I had the time to see deep purple 8 times but Led zeppelin no way, too late sht! luky you ;)
Old Western? Omg no way! I was 15 when this song was released! Fabulous then and still fabulous all these years later. I also saw them live. Nothing better!
It absolutely AMAZES me that this is the first time you’ve ever heard this song. It’s No. 1 in so very many hearts, especially those of us from the early 80’s. Glad you enjoyed it and appreciate its musicality. This song will live forever…as will Zeppelin!
Imagine living in the 70's like i did and you hear this on radio on average at least 3 to 5 times per week.
And the cherry on top is that you knew that 10s of thousands of people were listening at the very same moment. It was a mind blowing time. ORGASMIC❤❤❤
It played every hour on most FM rock stations for years. It was consistently voted the #1 rock song of all time.
Amen to that. Music was Music then
MTV
BEST ERA
Yup - here in UK I guess a lot of us were hearing it on Radio Luxemburg in the evening complete with the fading ;)
If you love this you will love the Lincoln Center Awards version where Led Zeppelin is honored with a full orchestral, gospel choir version!
With Anne Wilson from Heart singing
They honored Led Zeppelin at the Kennedy Center and HEART did a cover of this song … you think your hair stood up listening to this… wait till you hear and watch that! Totally Amazing 🤩
YES!!! Watching Robert Plant's reaction to that tribute is absolutely other world!! CHILLS and TEARS!!
Battle of Evermore. That was great
Love that one so much! Heart was amazing! The Kennedy Center Honors that year was very good.
Plant was reduced to tears, and Jimmy was reacting like the consummate musician he remains - almost like a schoolboy who can't believe someone just came damn close to stealing his ball. JPJ, well, Jonesy is their secret weapon, and they all know it. Great to see Jason on the kit. Great tribute that was.
Absolutely, Heart's rendition was epic!! Definitely watch that, it includes their late drummers Son playing too.
Stairway, regarded as arguably the best rock song ever for almost 50 years.
Yes, yes, yes.
Really? Nice try.
Yes, really…🤘🏻😎
It never ceases to amaze what this song does to people.
Ain't that the truth
Word
For real.
Best results, get high AF and chil out on the lake at night. Effing fabulous. 🤟
@kathigreen1479 it's great without that. But your scenario sounds amazing. Gotta try it sometime
it makes em wonder
I'm 68 yo and I grew up in the incredible 60s 70s the music and the color of real freedom and beautiful people.
A few years back Led Zeppelin won at the Kennedy Center Awards. They had Heart sing this song with a choir backup and the original drummer's son showed up as a surprise. Robert Plant cried. Please watch it. It is amazing.
Heart done it so much justice.
My favorite ❤️
It was ok, but the fact they cut the song short was really not cool.
Love love that version
Watch it. Watch the guy’s reactions. The parts that caused a reaction in you cause a reaction in them. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched it.
My mom saw LZ in Vancouver before they were big. They opened for Vanilla Fudge. I think it was in 1968 or 69. She always says this when this song comes on. Every Sunday I take my mom out for brunch. On the way back we drive through the farm lands near her house. Its nice and slow. We talk and just chill. I always put on Stairway to Heaven for her. Its her favourite song. She is in the twilight of her life now. I think of only her now when I hear this song. I know I wont be able to listen to it after she isnt here anymore. But for now I can and do with her. She is the best mum. Cheers yall.
Listening to the song after she passes will bring joy to your heart. Trust me.
Maybe. I know I cannot watch the video my brother in law did of my mom for her funeral. It's been 9 years and I still cannot do it.
As for your mom seeing Led Zeppelin in the beginning that would have been so great. The drummer of Vanilla Fudge became friends with John Bonham and they bonded over drums. Bonham was a fan of his before they played with Fudge.
I've seen videos on youtube of Led Zeppelin when they started out. Their first performance in 68. they are on here and I wonder if a short video was done in Vancouver.
🙏
@@DianeLake-sw3ymYes, the name of Vanilla Fudge's drummer is Carmine Appice. Phenomenal drummer in his own right, but John Bonham will always be my favorite.
Thank you so much for sharing your story. Hearing how you & your mom have bonded with this song over the years is very touching and wonderful. Getting to spend time listening to music with my dad before he passed earlier this year was truly a blessing. It’s been five months and for me it’s been nice to set aside some time when I can to honor dad’s memory by listening to one of his favorites (Michael Hedges “Aerial Boundaries”) and then playing something I’ve discovered lately that I think he would like while keeping him in my thoughts (Julian Lage “Tributary”). I’m so grateful for the love of music he instilled in me. Best of luck on your journey friend. 🙏🏼
First time I heard this I was in my room alone. Sat on the floor and just listened. By the end I had tears running down my face. This is my generation's classical music. It will never die.
This song only gets better the more you hear it....
My high school senior quote is from this. "Yes there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run, there's still time to change the road you're on."
Mine too 👍
Epic! Yes, it’s a lyric for the ages. It would make a great tattoo.
Love this song, however that is the one line from the song I never agreed with... There are two paths you can go by, but there's no time to change the road your on. You make a choice and none of us know when our time is up.
@@yosemitegirlCA Ooh, that would be one big tattoo. Lol
Polo, the Kennedy Center in DC honored Led Zeppelin and had other legends perform their music. LZ was there too. You’ve got to see HEART ( Ann and Nancy Wilson) doing THIS song. They had Robert Plant in tears. ❤
Exactly what I was trying to say. That version can bring me to tears.
100% agree. Might be the best cover of any song I've ever heard.
Jimmy Page as well.
Yes, it's great. President Obama awards them the Kennedy Center Honors. At those shows, the artists don't know who's going to perform. And, they're all great. Jack Black is hysterical at the beginning when he's telling anyone who might not know who Zeppelin is, all about them. Then, the music starts, the people there are celebrities, other musicians, and politicians jamming to Zeppelin. Heart was asked very last minute to perform this song. I think it was just a few days. But, John Bonham was the drummer and when he passed away, they didn't feel right about trying to replace him. So, they dissolved the band. A surprise drummer plays for Heart and it's Jason Bonham, John's son, that's really when Robert Plant started tearing up. They were all visibly moved, but it really got to Robert. There's another surprise in that performance that I'm not going to tell you about but just be prepared to have your goose bumps to have goose bumps. It's amazing.
Really enjoyed watching you enjoy this!
I'm 70 years old and I remember the first time I heard it. I get goose bumps when I hear it now just as I did when I heard it the very first time. Your reaction is the same as it is for me even today. Great job.
Same here! I remember hearing it for the first time back then, and it hasn't aged at all - unlike us sadly

YES !
85 years here and I still pull the rig to the shoulder and shudder
Led Zeppelin is not music, it's magic. My #1 of all time. Love to see you react to them!
You’re smart to start with studio versions when doing older songs. That’s how we all first heard them, how we know them, how we remember them, how we relate to them, connect to them. Studio versions are special, just like seeing the bands live was a special opportunity. This recording is the ultimate example; it is a perfect coming together of four great musicians in time, captured on tape for eternity, never to be changed. It is definitive.
There are a few exceptions to this, Free Bird live and Do You Feel Like We Do are better live than the original studio versions.
It bugs me when a younger reactor watches a song from a band but they start with a live video 20 years after the fact, when the singers have peaked and are fading...I feel they might not like it as much because somethings lacking...
Agree with you. I often love the live versions. Have very fond memories of seeing 70's bands in concert. But I went to the concert already being a fan. We were already in love and when you love something, you love it minor flaws, quirks, creative departures and all. Some live versions do exceed expectations. And some leave the studio version far behind. But I think most of the time it's best to experience a live performance as a fan, which is how it was meant to be.
DEF... first time listens on live versions.. suck
save for maybe a handful... Skynyrd in Oakland... Queen Live Aid... Phil Collins in the Air... there's def a few live spots that can do... but 99%... def don't
Zeppelin refused to cut it down to 3 min for radio saying you can't take the journey in 3 min. And it is still the most requested song on FM radio. 4 of the best rock musicians at their peak! The live version at Madison Square Garden is incredible.
I pity those whose first exposure to this was that chopped version. When I first heard that ABOMINATION, at 15, I was *angry*. Called the station to complain. Had to apologize to the DJ when I realized that he was as taken aback by the time as I was, forced to play it because it was ‘station policy’.
Roundabout by Yes is another very long song
I was at that show at the Garden it was one of the best concerts i have seen, I also saw them at the Nasus coliseum on Long Island.
I was there. You can’t even imagine.
@vincentjacovino9097 wow! That is awesome. One of their absolute best live performances. What a treat!
It’s not just a song, it’s a work of art! 🎉
The song was an accident, the words don't really make sense, and it's the greatest rock song of all time,
it’s as if I was walking up a stairway to heaven.
literally :)
You are absolutely right. I will never get tired of this song. (And I won't tell you how old I am.😊)

My friends and I had a rule - when this song came on, we stopped all conversation, and just listened. We're all older millennials, so at least some of us can appreciate classic music like this.
Love Led Zeppelin. This song is their pinnacle, in my opinion. Flawless, and deeply layered with beautiful virtuosity. ❤❤❤❤

Well said!
Oh you are not lying this is the best band ever they are legendary and their music will live on forever
I was a College student in the 70's when someone brought this record into our dorm room. We lost our collective minds and played it over and over until we lost consciousness. So happy to see a new generation discover and thrill to this song!
Im 42, my Father, and Mother would spin this as one of my Lullabies when i was a baby this song has been part of my ENTIRE LIFE
Polo: "You feel the song is growing. You know something's coming."
Folks who have loved this song for fifty odd years: "Dude, you have NO idea. But we're really glad you're about to find out." :)
I don't know how it's possible not to have heard this song before, but it was AMAZING watching you react for the first time.
Thank you!
Exactly. I just wrote something very similar on Polo listening to Dazed and Confused
😮
Right?! First time heard this in my dads car as a kid, I had chills. The build up is one of the best of all time.
Amen
AMEN and hell yeah!
This song slowly builds in intensity, almost imperceptibly, to arguably the most climactic moment in rock n roll. Welcome to Led Zeppelin.
Well said!!!
It's like tripping. Starts off slow and mellow, gradually builds into intense and takes you for a ride, and then slowly brings you back down.
No sir, I don't think you'll get sick of this song.
I've been listening to this song for 40 years... I have never not wanted to hear it.
On of the best tracks in HISTORY!
It reels you in, just about like all zeppelin songs played in stadiums throughout the US ! 50 years and still hear the Immigrant Song and others !!!
You're next version of this Song Should be @ The Kennedy Honors with Heart Singing it with a Full Orchestra !!! It's by far the next Best version of this Amazing Song !!! Also it's sung to Led Zeppelin in the auditorium , an induction into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame !!!
This song was released in 1971. By 1979 I was a senior in high school and it was regarded by most rock music fans as the greatest rock anthem of all time. 44 years later it’s still the undisputed best. Thank you for sharing your first impression. It is a song for the ages.
You just echoed what I was thinking exactly! We picked the best song of the year every year in high school. Every year Stairway was voted #1. Even 8 years after it was released. It was undeniable! Best tune ever hands down.
1980 Grad here!
Word
I was a senior in 1971. Still love this.
For the 70's and 80's Casey Cason did the best 100 songs of all time on every new year's eve. Freebird was always 2nd and Stairway was always 1st. Since Skynyrd was my favorite band I was hopin' they'd get it one year lol. Amazing the staying power of good music from any genre!!
This song was such a huge part of my teenage years that it is hard to believe someone may not have heard it. GREATEST song of all time.
Same! Last dance song at every school dance in the 80s and 90s... Cuz it's so long
I agree and I’m obsessed with all music but stairway is #1
68 yo and the beginning of my journey into heavier guitar rock.
I know. My jaw dropped that a person in North America, over 20 had never heard Stairway to heaven. Seems, in Canada anyway, every kid that picks up a guitar learns this tune first.
Loving it as my number 1 song ever since it was first released.
This is just one incredible example of the depth and richness of the music we enjoyed back then.
There's none better. The boomer generation had the best music ever written.
Dang. I grew up on this and many others. I was 16. Still the best.
Oh yeah❤❤❤
And the variety.
It was all GENUINE.
Synthesizers were in use, but only as another, alternative instrument.
They weren't really something that were used to generate instrumental tracks in place of having talent and actually playing instruments.
And singers SANG.
Studio mixing, yes.
Autotune, NO.
@reggiefokes6677 I smirk whenever someone says "Okay, Boomer."
HA! We were SO MUCH COOLER and more authentic back then than they are now! Our music was AWESOME.
AND we knew how to entertain ourselves, survive, and have fun WITHOUT a portable computer/phone or social media or much in the way of video games. (We had Pong, LOL.)
Led Zeppelin 3 is my all time favorite, I could imagine hearing that album for the first time back then..
Some of us have heard this song over a thousand times, and it still never loses it's novelty or shocking brilliance after all these years!
OFC he has heard it too. He's just bullshitting his way to making money of gullible people. LOL
It sure doesn't.
Initially, no one appreciated them, their name came from an insult..But Jimmy knew what he had
I was over forty when I could listen to it again, and enjoy it. In LA radio market it was always playing! Thank God I Got to see them live, twice in one week! What a fun time that was !
I love them again and glad I took that break.
PLANT AND I HAVE THE SAME BIRTHDAY, SO....
And, if you've never heard Heart, do it for Zeppelin, with Bonhams son on drums, it's a must, KENNEDY CENTER HONORS. With a Chior !!!
Zepplin dudes, were crying.
Make sure you just get the remastered album...
Ps Metallica lead their
$#!T, from Zepplin.
Let's call it the
"crescendo " .
You reaction captures the reason why this is considered one of the best rock songs of all time.
Medieval to heavy rock in one song; astounding, sophisticated and without boundaries. LOVE this song!
Masterpiece
yesssssssssss
Mystical you are very perceptive
Well said, I like your description.
Timeless and precious!!❤❤❤❤❤
Warms my heart to see you doing a reaction to this. This song was me and my dad’s favorite song before he passed away from cancer when I was 13 . Now I dedicate the song to him every time I hear it . Brings tears to my eyes every time . Thank you for checking this song out
I'm 68 years old. I feel very privileged to have heard the amazing music of the 60s and 70s when first released. The music in those decades was epic.
Magical times before Nancy screwed it all up.
When I was 24 years old I owned a jingle company in Birmingham, AL. I was asked by the studio I worked at if I wanted to drive one of three limos to pickup Led Zeplin and the take them to their private jet after the concert. I got to stand at the edge of the stage about 10 feet from where this amazing song was performed live. After the concert was over I drove three of the group to the runway where they boarded their private jet. Once in a lifetime experience.
Not really. I think Led Zep travelled by limo and private all the time.
Well whoever was singing stairway to Heaven sounded and looked just like Led Zeppelin? Seriously, it really happened in Tuscaloosa Alabama in 1972.
Hell yeah 👍👍👍
@@ehemple Don't let justthefacts bring you down. Jealousy is an evil thing. Let him stew in it.
Just a wild guess but John Paul Jones wasn't in your car 😊
We’ve all heard this so many times that you sort of forget how mind blowing it all is.
They broke up 50 years ago and people still love them. The singer Robert Plant is 75 and still sounds great!!
This is the Greatest Rock Song of All Time.
Undisputed
Arguably.
@@MrMoti2222 ...and arguably not their best song!
AMEN
Agree
At age 63 this still gives me shivers and believe me I have heard the song for 45 years . Music transcends time. This is proof!
Agree at 70 years old!
I still get the chills too! A masterpiece!
At 71 I remember seeing then live they are the best rock group EVER!
Yep! 63 years old
I'm 2 months shy of 72. I only listen to classic rock as my years are coming to an end...SO MANY great memories!!
I’m 60 and remember being blown away as a teen the first time I heard it! A classic that only gets better! So happy to see another generation discovering our music from the 70’s! ❤
Absolutely. How lucky we were. ❤
Im 58 not far behind I echo your sentiment
@@oldeskoolnana7543you are correct we are very lucky
The greatest Rock and Roll song of all time and possibly the greatest and most poignant song and spiritual song of all or any time
I'm 40, my experience was different but every bit as a brilliant. :)
Undoubtedly one of the best songs ever.
I'm 74 now and all alone. My baby brother passed away 2 months ago at 67. His band in the 70s was called starway! And they played this song at the end of his funeral. I still cry. Please pray
I’m so sorry to hear about your brother. You know that he lived and loved his music, you honoured him with this awesome song… his stairway to heaven was not quiet nor alone. He heard your music and felt your love and still does. Hold on, sweetheart, just hold on. 🫂🫂🫂
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I'm so sorry. Have learned being older is more painful than we ever expected. Take care
@@KalahariMeerketlovely thoughts…❤
God bless you and your beautiful brother
This is when music was music, pure poetry. that tells a story. Love Led Zeppelin
What an absolute treat to be able to watch a grown adult stare in wonder and joyous bewilderment. Thank you for posting this!
Absolutely!
Nice to see someone experienc what I did some year s ago LZ will go on for ever ❤ Lincolnshire uk
It’s absolutely incredible that there is somebody out there who is hearing this for the first time. this goes down as one of the greatest songs to ever be recorded. It is the forbidden song that cannot be played in guitar stores. It is just sacred… a true masterpiece.
First time? Uh, don’t believe it.
@@robertkeating8315
There is always a first time for everything.
We aren't born having heard the song. I remember the first time I heard it. I was 13, and it just started playing guitar, and my dad told me that if I wanted to impress him, I had to learn this song😂.
Needless to say, I was a teenager, and I didn't care, I became a trash punk guitarist😂 I wouldn't change it for the world.
I can play it now, but it's not particularly difficult. Anybody with a lower to mid skill level could.
My dad is not a guitarist, so he didn't know any better.
Pretty sure the 'No Stairway' joke from Wayne's World is not because it's sacred, it's because everyone who works there is sick of people playing it. It's an over-popularity joke, IOW.
when he paused it right before the solo and said " this is one of the best led zeppelin songs i ever heard" i was like " just you wait buddy, this is considered not just the best led zeppeling song, but the best rock n roll song ever!!"" hahah rock on dude
Robert Plant was only like 22 when this song came out... what talent... blows my mind
I think he was 22 when their 1st album came out, so a little older than that.
No, you will never get sick of this song, and most of the ones you are covering. Making us oldies but goodies so proud and appreciative!!
I was 15 years old and in the 10th grade when this song came out in 1971. I’ll never forget being blown away when I heard it! It was EVERYBODY’s favorite song at that time! Everyone talked about it and how awesome it was. So glad I was a teenager in that incredible era of music. Anyway, I absolutely love your reaction to one of the greatest rock songs of all time! And, NO, you won’t get sick of hearing it!!!
We're the same age, and we had essentially the same reactions to hearing Led Zeppelin for the first time. But the first song of theirs that I heard was "Immigrant Song." When I first heard that song, I had no idea who the artists were, and didn't find that out until much later.
Amen!
Saw them in 1970 at The Forum In Inglewood California and they introduced this song before it ever came out a d it was incredible to hear
I was 15, too! Still love it!
Same age as me....same reaction!
They don't make it like this anymore, we were such a lucky generation to grow up with wonderful music like this.
Yes, 70s rock was the best, and Led Zeppelin was the best of them.
Yes they do.
Check out the album The Hazards of Love by The Decemberists. Absolutely amazing concept rock opera.
By the end of it, you won't even have noticed that hour go by; it's transcendental.

@@TomatoFettuccini Thank you.
Oh please. Good music has only been extinct for about 12- 13 years. The 00s were full of classics.
You should check out Greta van Fleet ;)
There is a reason this is the number 1 song of all time to so many people. I cry every time I listen to it.
same
I love that you can't hardly interrupt this one. It truly is mesmerizing. One of the best of all time.
The song is 52 years old !!! And it still ranks as the greatest Rock and Roll song of all time. The beauty of it is that it is ageless/timeless. It still plays today. Doesn’t feel pinned/pegged to a specific year or decade. Just an awesome time by four amazing artists. R.I.P. John Bonham
And so many bands have tried to copy the formula but they haven't come close to this masterpiece.
My dad bought me tickets to the concert in '72 in Seattle at the coliseum - He waited outside in the car for the entire 4 and a half hour Led Zeppelin performance. They even played some songs twice! The crowd was wild.
🤩 What a sweet dad moment. 4 hours, waiting with no cell phone 😂 Love it❤
what a wonderful Father you had
They always loved playing Seattle
Your Pop chilled listening to the car radio, window CRANKED down, smoking Marbs with no filter for four hours to share his passion with you. Driving you home would have us seeing two men not wearing seatbelts but safe nonetheless in their own cocoons spun from their collectively understood euphoria.
Such a beautiful gift!!!
4.5 hours!?!? Omg that's amazing, I'm lucky to see a band do a 1.5 to 2 hour show for any group I like nowadays
I was born in 1966. This song closed out every single school dance in every single school dance above the mason-dixon line. Free Bird closed it out in the south but in the north? Led, baby! Unreal - great memories. And you can keep searching - you won't ever find a bad song by Led.
I was born in 1967 and attended high school in Maine not too far from the Canadian border - pretty far north. I’d say the closing song for our school dances was close to evenly divided between Freebird and Stairway to Heaven - both being awesome songs! ❤
@@urimaginarystarI was born in 57. A Zeppelin was here in Baton Rouge Louisiana in 1975 I was there
My man. I turn 73 this year, standing here pumping iron for all I'm worth and needed some loud musical caffeine to push through these last sets. Somehow this video of you loving Stairway to Heaven came on, one of the best rock songs of all time. Watching you appreciate kick-butt music that I rocked to when I was a teenager was totally amazing man, totally amazing. What a great time I just had! Nicely done my young friend. Thank you.
RIP Joh Bonham. When he passed Led Zeppelin disbanded. No way they could carry on without him. I was very blessed to see them in concert in Munich, 1970. Rock On y’all !!!
We got a Led Zeppelin cover band in my country, they got 2 drummers, because as they say, they need it to give the same dynamics as Bonham provided..
My Dad was John's Coke roady
You’re so lucky. I grew up in the 90’s, but this was my music of choice. When all my peers were grunge, I was a hippy child, displaced, late and wrong, born in the wrong decade. By the time I was a teen, they’d long been disbanded and John long passed on 😢 I would have given my left kidney and half of my right to have been alive in the time of Zeppelin. 😂 Just to see them live. Still my Favorite band of all time. And in my humble opinion, the greatest pure rock band that ever was, or ever will be. You were so, so lucky. ♥️
@@KRAEMERP2010craziest thing of all is, John wasn’t playing with a double bass kick drum. He did those fills with A SINGLE LEG AND DRUM. My dad was a drummer so I get it. That’s still so effing incredible to me. He truly was one in a billion.
how is it possible to have never listened to this song today?
You need to watch Ann Wilson sing this in tribute to Led Zeppelin at the Kennedy Center Honors. It’s a masterpiece!
I've probably rewatched that performance 50 times. It was touching to see their reactions, you know that it took them back. Yes...anyone that hasn't seen it, it's a MUST!!❤
Yes it’s amazing
Ann Wilson stairway to heaven
Oh yeah. She's a goddess.
Just watched it again! Amazing performance! Always brings a tear to my eyes! ❤
This is what happens when the best vocalist, guitarist, bassist and drummer get together.
Come on now, Neil Peart.
@@ic5761Haha, right? The beauty of music, we all have own opinions. Personally, I think Kieth Moon is the best drummer. I also think Jimmy Page is one of the most overrated guitarists ever, but I cannot deny this legendary solo. Different strokes for different folks I guess lol
@@ic5761I agree but many feel he is #2 to John Bonham
Best vocalist??? Ohhh I don’t know about that one… Freddy Mercury and Robin Zander, can’t leave them out of the mix. I’d say top 3 of all time, but Plant being tippy top, that’s a tough call
John bonum
I’m a young millennial / old zoomer (born in August 1997) but was raised on oldies, and I’m so thankful that I was. Songs like this are absolutely magical~
As a 70 year old Scotsman living in Germany, I remember seeing them live in London 46 years ago and it still makes the hairs stand up. Great to see you enjoying Zeppelin 😊

I agree with that. Definitely a night to remember

I'm 65 and this is my era of music. Watching you fall in love with this song is just so wonderful. ❤
Tuning into you as I love zeppelin.. 63 yrs old, still rockin to them.
Will be until my last breath. They are perfection.
Cheers from Toronto, Canada. Love your show, Thank you it is a joy to watch you experiencing the classics from our era.
It sure takes me back❤❤❤❤
I've been listening to Zep for 50 yrs now, and their music has NEVER become stale to me. This song has to be one of the most finely crafted songs ever recorded. Thanks for the react. I think you "get it".
Number 1 band of all time!
Snap!
I’m 66 and our junior prom was based on this song. The gym was amazing, castles, stairways leading to the ceiling, into clouds and heaven. When the band finally played this song we all sang along. It was awesome. We had special lighting and strobes. Best memory ever.
The stuff they call music today doesn’t even touch the talent demonstrated here. The music today is created to sell, be popular and nothing more. The music from our era was created to touch souls and it changed us. It changes whoever hears it.
I’m 66 also, and our junior prom was also based on this song!! Love everything about Led Zeppelin….hands down the best band in my lifetime! There’s no one better, and the memories made listening to them are etched in my brain. They are on my music list pretty much every day of the week.
True…. And it was often the tracks that were very different that stood out as classics.
...and propaganda.... another thing a lot of popular music today is used for.
I so love how music has no boundaries, it has the ability to bond us, no matter your race, religion, gender, or age. Love you brother!
