    I know exactly where he's at in the song at any time. It goes to show how much drums are a huge part of any Tool song.

    • @michmyers73
      @michmyers73 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Huge part of any song really

    • @mariinito8398
      @mariinito8398 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@michmyers73 Yup, the drums dictate the rhythm and the most importantly the time. But Danny also put's in some melodic elements too which in and of itself is impressive. You can identify any Tool song by just listening to the drums alone

    • @michmyers73
      @michmyers73 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@mariinito8398 Exactly, what I find super unique about danny is that he is all over the tom drums as a melodic element instead of just drum fills. I don't think any other drummer could write something like ticks and leeches

    • @mariinito8398
      @mariinito8398 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@michmyers73 Not just Ticks and Leeches. The verse section of Laterlus, The Grudge, Parabola are all on the toms. But they have different composition and all sound melodic (drums are supposed to by rhythmic and not melodic but Danny pulls it off). Also his sense of groove is really strong even in odd time (7empest, Pneuma, Jambi, Rosetta Stoned and many many more), polyrhythmic (that 3 over 4 section of Eulogy) or polymetric (the interlude of Laterlus where Danny is playing in 6 while Adam is in 5) environments.

      its an amazing masterpiece, just like most of 10000 days! Although Rush did make 3 masterpiece albums in 3 years, 2112 (1976), A farewell to Kings (1977), and Hemispheres (1978). Not trying to compare, love both bands! There could've been more pressure in the 70s who knows lol

      @@kylemaconthedrums4208 Although TOOL was no where near consistent with putting out album after album in such a short span of time as Rush(Lawsuits didn't help), TOOL has three masterpieces as well. Lateralus, 10k days, and Fear Inoculum. I understand some fans either love or hate Fear Inoculum, but it's one of the most musically technical albums of all time.

    • @Coryiodine
      @Coryiodine ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ssjonupants Listing FO but not even Aenima? By doing so you've severely lost credibility. there is no list where FO is above Aenima. FO divides fans for a reason. Even the band thought it was meh but they didn't care for 2 reasons.1. they were tired of hearing people bug them for a new album and 2. It was their last album before they were out of a 4 or 5 album contract starting with either undertow or aenima. They just goofed off on it. hence stuff like "chocolate chip trip" they were half trolling .The band plans to work on and release better and more ambitious stuff now that theyre on their own terms. you can find an interview with them about it somewhere on yt , I saw it when FO first came out. it was just a so-so album. It was only so heavily advertised because the label wanted to milk the last of the tool cash cow they could before they couldnt own them anymore. I mean, have you seen tools ticket prices? starting at 400 for worst seats going upwards to 1-2k for average seats. Thats the label squeezing its last share its planning to get out of tool. most fans and even the band arent going to for a second think FO would ever be what tools known for. It's honestly not even in their top 3 albums. it only did so well commercially due to the heaviest advertising tools ever had.

    Trying to count the polyrhythmic ratios without the rest of the band is way easier this way. Tool and Meshuggah (especially Clockworks in the latter case) songs always throw me off because there are so many layers of pulse that you can feel in different ways that it becomes difficult to nail them down without pulling some of them out of context. I am convinced that the most difficult instrument to play on a Tool song are the drums. Just listen to that part at 6:55. It’s ridiculous. How is it possible to split your four limbs into different rythms?

    Absolutely FANTASTIC!! You should do some Tim Alexander or Jay Lane drumming......if you like Primus. I always felt the Incredible drumming of the Primus drummer's are always overlooked

    There's parts of this song that almost give me orchestral vibes...such as the tom parts and cymbal swell moments. Just something I noticed in this drums only version.

      Edit: Part where I really got those vibes was 1:30.

    Pretty good drum cover, so good that doesn't need lyrics.
