Well, the South Park theme's bass part isn't really identifiable as something Claypool would do uniquely, like basically all of his other bass parts. I'd say that Ler's guitar work on the South Park theme is more readily identifiable as an example of his style.@@ElegantD
The selection used to show off the South Park theme may be Primus but it's not the original Primus version, which i guess sounds slightly more like a typical Primus song, and a typical kind of song you'd hear on this sort of show for what it's worth
It really makes me appreciate Tim and Les even more. Tim leaves open so much space for the groove to be carried mainly by Les' amazing bass line, and with Tim's footwork only supporting the bass even more without ever getting in the way. Kaz's stink face says it all when listening to it back in the end. That track just GROOVES!
Quickly becoming a favorite series of mine on youtube. It's like hearing the song for the first time all over again with them creating a different drum beat. Same. I absolutely love these videos they do! I can't wait for more of them. Let's make sure we like and comment on all of them so they get boosted and help Drumeo!
As a bassist, I love these videos because it really shows how important the rhythm section truly is! I played with a band in Portland for about two years, and on the few unfortunate sessions I couldn’t make it to practice, the drummer refused to play without me, and I felt the same way when he couldn’t make it. It’s two sides of the same coin in many ways!
Thank you Drumeo for letting me know this album! I really love Kaz's playing style, and this song (and the whole album) is so so sick. So glad to see the combination of this great artist and this great album. It's a magnificent piece of art.
Great playing, great tuning and great miking. Notice how he's using a small diaphragm condenser next to the SM57. I'm pretty sure that plays a huge part in the crispness.
As a metalhead I love being blown away by these professionals in pop. Grooves were rock solid, fills clean, active hands.. it was fun to watch. I really loved watching someone do a beatdown riff over the end of that song, was actually sick AF.
This guy did what SO MANY other drummers in this series have failed to do: He kept the drums in the rhythm section. So many other drummers, when faced with this challenge, end up playing the drums as a lead instrument. With so many fills, flourishes, etc. Primus is certainly known for complex drums, but they are always secondary to the bass, in this case. Kaz did a great job of just laying back in the cut, while still keeping it interesting.
I absolutely love the sound of a mic'd up acoustic drum kit. And Drumeo does it with perfection every video! You guys nail the drum mix every time! Yes!!! 🥁
Oh yes, this is one of the coolest of the series! Kaz is perfect for this one too, love how his explorations changed the vibe of the track, goes to show that drums in Primus are just as nuts and demanding as the bass parts. I laughed out loud when i heard the doom outro. Also we need more primus-drumeo content! Three beastly drummers in a band to explore and lots and lots of incredible tracks to dive into. i think he sucked, just like the rest of primus.
@@hazardeur Primus sucks!
Primus does indeed suck!
I love that he instantly connected Les Claypool's voice with the South Park theme.
Not just the voice. The bass is all over it.
Well, the South Park theme's bass part isn't really identifiable as something Claypool would do uniquely, like basically all of his other bass parts. I'd say that Ler's guitar work on the South Park theme is more readily identifiable as an example of his style.@@ElegantD
What else could you possibly connect it to?!
Larry Lalonde🔥
The selection used to show off the South Park theme may be Primus but it's not the original Primus version, which i guess sounds slightly more like a typical Primus song, and a typical kind of song you'd hear on this sort of show for what it's worth
I love this interpretation, you can tell how well his ear is trained. brilliant
the kit sounds so good
yeah, the sound dude is amazing
TAMA❤
It really makes me appreciate Tim and Les even more. Tim leaves open so much space for the groove to be carried mainly by Les' amazing bass line, and with Tim's footwork only supporting the bass even more without ever getting in the way. Kaz's stink face says it all when listening to it back in the end. That track just GROOVES!
They sure listened to a lot of king crimson
One of the most enjoyable series on youtube, Rodriguez killed it man
Quickly becoming a favorite series of mine on youtube. It's like hearing the song for the first time all over again with them creating a different drum beat. Its also pretty cool how close they get to the original drums on some parts. My grandpas name was Jerry and he was a racecar driver in the 60's on dirt tracks. This song is a badass reminder of him for me.
🤘
the snare hit on 'Go!' is perfect!
This show never fails to blow my mind. He nailed that first half so well. Really hit the Primus style
Great job . Tim Alexander is one of the main reasons I play drums... 33 years of listening to everything he's done...Kaz is a killer drummer.. great sound . Awesome videos ..I love my these. DRUMEO KICKS ASS.
Man this guy is SO good he barely even has to try. Just what talent.
Not talent, hours and hours of hard work and dedication. Every once in a while you find a savant, but for everyone else…it’s a labor of love
skill, not tAlEnT
So your saying he's not talented?
When I saw Primus live they had two drummers and two base guitars with a single electric guitar. One of the best shows I've ever seen..
They do suck omg
Primus is a different beast. Kaz was amazing!
How he was responding at the beginning, I had no idea where he was going to go, but he killed it. His reaction is everyone’s first to Primus. Well done Kaz!
It's crazy how incredibly close he was to the original timing and rhythms of the track, love this song and Kaz for never hearing it before he crushed it. Impressive!
If you take the drums out of every song you realize that you have taken the entire spine out of the song. These are some of my favorite videos on the internet! Thanks Drumeo!!
agree
Can’t have a top without a bottom.
Word. You also get the idea of how much a drummer can change a song by what they play.
I'm really impressed with how quickly he gravitated to a groove that was as close to the original as it was. Esp. on such a... unique song. Very nice!
He followed what the other instruments were saying🙂
Thank you Drumeo for letting me know this album! I really love Kaz's playing style, and this song (and the whole album) is so so sick. So glad to see the combination of this great artist and this great album. It's a magnificent piece of art.
Drumeo's comment sections are always so positive. I love it.
was just scrolling through thinking the same thing myself :)
He plays almost the exact same full that Tim does at the end of the “dog will hunt” break, fairly early on at 2:53!
Well done!
The initial beat very similar too with the paradidles. This was so cool.
I’m blown away how quickly he tackled this and REALLY hit the vibe incredible drummer!
That was sick, I’m glad he went with his original thoughts for the beat, he nailed it!
EDIT: that fill at 9:03 was my favourite part
Fill was killer
Wish I had that snare sound.. so crisp. Amazing drumming as always, Kaz.
Great playing, great tuning and great miking.
Notice how he's using a small diaphragm condenser next to the SM57.
I'm pretty sure that plays a huge part in the crispness.
@@rockboy360good eye man, that snare sound is so good
One of the best version to date. Incredible timing
This has been my favorite song for almost 20 years now and I never knew how good it would sound with a breakdown style drum beat over the end part. 🤯
Tim Alexander(Primus) is really a great GREAT drummer always love listening to Primus and earing all the nuances in is drum part.
Nailed it!
9:03 that fill, and that breakdown...damn.
These sessions never get old. Just amazes me the talent these drummers have to be put on the spot like this and they always produce amazing outcomes
1:52 I think that’s most peoples reactions when they hear Primus for the first time.
Lol. That is so true. I remember playing them for my parents and getting a very similar reaction.
Yep😂 first song I ever heard was My Name is Mud and I thought I was having a stroke
This was the first Primus song I ever heard as a kid and it was exactly the right amount of Primus.
Primus sucks!
*Too Many Puppies* was my introduction to Primus and that was 💯 my reaction lmao. After reading the lyrics Primus became one of my favorite bands.
Always a delight to watch a master at work
As a metalhead I love being blown away by these professionals in pop. Grooves were rock solid, fills clean, active hands.. it was fun to watch. I really loved watching someone do a beatdown riff over the end of that song, was actually sick AF.
Just curious: As a 'metalhead' do you consider Primus to be a metal band? As a 'non-metalhead', I'm conflicted 😅
@@SvenElvenyes but also no :p
The 'doom' approach to The Last part was awesome! Got me headbanging (more) with the tension. Well done!!
damn really shows how important this drum part is too the song
Man absolutely killed it! This might be the best attempt I've seen out of this series.
This is one of the best ever. Plays a tricky drum part and even adds something to the track.
Fantastic work.
One of my fave episodes
I love how the opening flams are almost the same, its like we all have a natural vibe for a good groove ❤
Kaz crushed this! Outstanding work again, Drumeo team! Hearing Primus for the first time should be a featured segment!
One of my top 5 songs, ever. Well done Kaz
I genuinely can't think of how f'd up it would be to hear this for the first time ever without drums!
Absolutely my favorite series on TH-cam thus far!! Can't wait for the drummer from Lamb of God to do this!!!
I was going to tell that he has already but I remembered it dirk from megadeth to mr brightside
That's a savage song to be giving someone. You're a bad man Brandon. 🤣 Kaz killed it tho. 👍
PS - Herb rocks!!
PRIMUS SUCKS!
Haha@@jamiereekie9342
All the members of primus are solid musicians. Glad to see them being covered.
Kyuss definitely needs to be covered!
Demon cleaner would be great for this segment
And you believe Kyuss has never listened to Primus?
@@macethorns1168 what?
I’d say they’re a little more than “solid” 😂
@@poindextertunesthey are solid . Stop with this weird internet worship
Holy sht the sound of these drums! Love them!
This was awesome. When he threw that half-time section in towards the end, I smiled ear to ear. Great stuff.
I absolutely love the sound of a mic'd up acoustic drum kit. And Drumeo does it with perfection every video! You guys nail the drum mix every time! Yes!!! 🥁
amen
Exactly my thoughts
Man that tom sound is AMAZING!!!
Maybe even get Tim Alexander on drumeo.
