It starts at £74k?!? When you were comparing it to the model 3 and Model Y I thought it might be around £50/£55k! I’m sure it’s stunning to drive and some of the gadgets (or gimmicks) look cool but that’s unreal… glad they’re doing an estate, there aren’t enough good estate EVs on the market, but we’ll have the MG5 at the bottom of the price list, followed by the Astra and 308, then a £30k leap to this…
Tesla costs far less... But this is German BMW quality!... You rarely see a sad plastic or any sign of a badly mount anywhere on these cars. Personally I don't like the full black this particular unit uses, but that is of course personal. BMW could have been little bit more open or modern in those inside details... But them better know to whom those cars are marketed. This car competes on an entirely different league to any Tesla out there, save the Model S to an extent.
Ironically, the shiny black plastic on the centre console and grille is this car's biggest aesthetic failing. I'm sure it'll be well made but every time i went to use iDrive I'd feel like I'm in an overpriced Kia.
14:20 Oh yeah, absolutely, Taycan over this. Yes it's older, but it's fantastic and also if you're getting a sedan anyway it's not like you give a toss about practicality. Although I'm sure once the wagon comes out the i5 will have a larger boot than the Taycan Sport/Cross Turismo.
I just don't get the SUV thing. I'm yet to see one I find good to look at. The only advantage of sitting high is that you don't get blinded by the headlights of other SUXs at night. The i6 actually looks nice but it isn't exactly affordable for most people either.
The difference between the nio ET5 and BWM i5 is huge, whether it's in terms of the vehicle's exterior, interior design, or software. Additionally, the price of the ET5 is even lower than that of the BWM. I definitely would not choose the BWM.
I like its bells-and-whistles, but I'm tired of having a boot, and want a hatchback for practicality. I do think it will give Tesla a run for its money. I'm perplexed, however, why automakers haven't got a clue that most consumers are not fans of piano black plastic: its a fingerprint magnet! You crack me up, Nicola. You're so effervescent and fun.

Really like this one. Nice color too. Glad they’re keeping the idrive scroll wheel. It’s a shame it doesn’t have acoustic glass all around. That would have made it even better.
Something I don’t like about EVs right now is that size can, at times, equate to massive range differences. I’d MUCH rather have the i4 as I’m not a fan of big chunky luxury saloons but I’d also like to have the near 300+ miles of range. I know that’s quickly changing but not coming soon enough
not advertised by EV sellers is that on this car you could lose up to 10% in charge through the system so if you pay 88kwh at your station the car will only receive 81 KWH ( gross capacity/usable capacity ). its like spilling 10% of fuel at a petrol station ;) enjoy
I would imagine i5 will prove slightly hard to sell next to cheaper i4. Battery and powertrain are no different and from practicality point of view i4 is better with the hatch opening back. Range is also better in i4 as its lighter. I personally also find the i4 looking much sexier than the i5. I´m sure the other variants of the 5-series will still sell well. Its just that the electric version seems not as good as the "smaller" i4.
I believe that this is for safety as people are still used to the ICE engine noises. I believe those extra noises can be unplugged on the infoentertainment screen though.
The best i can say is that its not quite as ugly as the i7, but the interior is just awful! Also why no mention of the Genesis Electrified G80 as a potential rival? It's certainly much better value for money...
I bought last year the Genesis which I mentioned in previous comment. I have to say the cabin of my car looks a lot more like a luxury car than that of the BMW. I think with German cars you have to like a more austere cabin. It was the same when I sat in a Taycan and looked at the cabin of the E Tron GT. For me I prefer I light colour with luxury details. Mercedes seem to buck the trend, but then it’s all a bit blingy!! All personal taste I know. Take a look at the following link, skip to the last 30 secs. The TH-camr who produces these videos insert’s pictures of his regular viewers cars. This week it was my car, and you will see the difference between the Electrified G80, and the i5. Cost wise the Genesis is much better value, with my car coming in at 80k, and that’s with a distinct performance advantage- independent tested 0-60 4.1 secs…

I owned many BMW´s, the last one was an ICE Machine for long distances, the BMW 6 GT 40dx, with creme leather inside - and it looked gorgeous - I loved this car and clocked 50tkm with it - best car I ever had until now, meaning - its really a matter of taste and how you spec it. A base BMW is not a luxury car - I would buy something else. The top end BMW are awesome. If you chose an i5 and spec it the way you like - it should serve you well. But it will be 10k more then a Genesys.
until they launch the estate there is nothing interesting here. just larger i4... and with estate you will learn that you have a transmission tunnel just like in 2003, YAY! what a premium EV feature
But you'll need to store the batteries elsewhere, that may say, less luggage space!... There are no miracles. EV's will nearly all of them to be SUV or Crossover like cars for a reason...

Nobody finds SUV's exciting. Saloon cars and estate cars are absolutely the way to go. The only people who buy SUV's and cross-overs are those stupid enough to believe your extra 20cm of height is worth every other downside. Well, that or it makes people have a superiority complex on the school run 😂.

The 5 series has always been my favourite saloon but this iteration just looks too bland, too much like a Skoda Superb. It doesn't look special enough to start at £75k unfortunately, regardless of ICE or EV propulsion.
Still dumb. All these EVs lack the simplicity of older cars. I don't get every companies penchant for making already resolved issues, like the aircon and drive modes being a couple of buttons on the dash, vastly more complicated by using a touchscreen or a dial or a voice command. Hell, just give me a mounting point with a charging USB cable for my phone and I'll happily lose half of the tech in cars now if the price is sizably cheaper.

It looks like crap. The plastic grill is so cheap, just like the rest. The sharp angled lines are "try hard tech". Doesn't work. All elegance and sportiness are gone. The designers should have seen the new Merc first to see how it's done.

He done the I5 M60 different range entirely it's 300-340miles on the Edrive40 the M60 is 290miles in the spring/summer anyway
