I have this car and love it. Have never had any range anxiety but admittedly work very close to where I live. I don’t think it’s selling well since I never see others on the road but whatever. I like mine very much.
I have had a number of 5 series cars over the years, they are brilliant machines to live with. I drive an SUV because I drive off road, as a result I miss my 5!😊
We only have the M60 here in Canada. 98k bucks, no EV rebate. Not that the rich people buying this need a gov't rebate. I do like the design quite a bit. A shame it isn't a wagon. Also a shame BMW never added 2' to the i3 carbon tub design making a usable sized EV designed to be only an EV.... And gave it normal wheels. This video was not a shame. It's always enjoyable watching your videos Marek! Thanks.
I bought the M60, it's actually a deal here in Canada since it works out to about the same price as what Americans get the eDrive40 for. The closest EV competitor is the Genesis G80 Electric and that thing starts at like 105cad and has only like 360hp. Lucid Air and Tesla Model S are also both 100k starting, and the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT are both in a completely different price category at 150cad starting for much more cramped cars Meanwhile Hyundai dealerships was over $70k for Ioniq 5s on the "low end"
I was going to buy an i4 next year, but you can get this one (according to the online configurator) almost fully loaded for around $72k USD. I think I'll go this route, since I wasn't planning on buying the M variant and it's only a few thousand more than a fully loaded i4.
Please test a 550e preferably in touring form and can you still get load cover under boot floor. I also find it a bit odd they don’t currently have a normal silver
I suppose the shape will grow on me, and like you, I will always try and buy an estate car over a bloated SUV. Great content btw, and yes we do come for the sarcasm😂
The review is great as usual and agree the wagon will make 👌 a lot of sense. Big congrats to you 4 putting hands and feet on it that quickly. I think this car takes a sensible route and definitely delivers. Staying shy of 5 meters length , in Europe roads and garages, would have been wiser. Diesels are still there for those in need / liking them, and the electric is to me a better pick than Merc EQE. Vs EClass good that the boot on PHEVS does not suffer the batteries, but Merc 50kW charging power on a PHEV adds a lot and do not understand why BMW did not go for it. Not to mention the 11kW AC at least. Overall a big step further and hope the in 3ys face-lift will address yours and my points.
I'm not convinced about the electric powertrain either - it uses a lot of energy. Also, looking at the profile of the car at 15:53 I really can't stand the fact that the hood is higher than the trunk lid.
@DVKajak yeah, I spilt some water on it. I hope the sealing's good. Same thing in my Countryman. Perhaps a slightly different angle, so less water getting in.
Come on BMW, you equiped car with ultra vegan friendly sustainable envoronment friendly leather, big displays, driver aids another state of the art tech and you still cannot find cover panel for sheet metal in boot? And this is for car which cost same as house(in some coumtries). I think if you cannot sleep you can try to count those triangles and angles in display:) Otherwise quite interesting approach for BMW.
Interested in the autonomous driving bit- if the car is driving shouldn’t it take a driving test like humans have to do? Also ‘some’ car makers (cough cough) are going to be super aggressive e.g. if I agree with the car & just look at where I want to be then that’s what will happen - regardless of other road users…
Maybe it will grow on me as time goes on, but as of right now, I'm really not a fan of this new BMW 5 Series design. It's to boxy and awkward looking. Personally, I think the G30 M-Sport is the best looking modern BMW of them all. Or maybe I'm just biased because I own one.
Cars seem to have turned into rolling disco's with all these plotless expensive novelty gimmicks that may fuddle the average brain for a short while before they are forgotten.
don't agree. i5 was on my radar, but then I saw it's ICE platform conversion. I would take i5 Touring without the transmission tunnel instead of the iX any second. But looks like if I want to have premium estate I have to wait for A6, Nio or Superb EV
This I5 packs about 455km which is very good for long journeys. After 3-4 hours of driving with a diesel you need take a brake for about 20-30 minutes to drink, eat or toilet even if you don’t need to fuel up your car, in that time you can charge up your EV up to 80% which is another 400km. Your arguments are completely invalid.
@@ravenmcclaw1725 that range is quite good but not good enough, if that is on paper in realty driving conatantly at 120-130km/h with AC, during night etc. is going to be quite a bit less. 20-30 minutes brake is too long if you actually need to get somewhere, also the charging infrastructure now (and for quite some time in the future) is not sufficient enough to charge many cars that quickly.
@@ILIJA26101993depends on your needs. I made an EV trip UK-Poland, twice. You are absolutely correct. if you are driving 110km/h+ on the motorway with ACC your economy will be terrible compared to official numbers or your daily commute. However on my family trip, these 20-30 minutes breaks were godsend after boring motorway ride. Before I hit Polish border I never had to wait for charging. I agree, a year before my first EV trip I made this route with my old diesel, and yes.... IF I had a choice I would select a Kodiaq for holidays instead my Enyaq, and now I am reconsidering M3 or MY only because their superior range in class. The current generation of EVs is just not made for continental trips, but let's be honest, how many days in year you have to make 800km trips? because if these are your daily numbers, you are not considering EV anyway.
Can't look at BMW's anymore without nausea setting in. The design language is boring cr@p. They used to make classy looking cars, - a long time ago. Your reviews are fun to watch though.

Thank you, Marek, once again for an honest review and also for criticizing the German car manufacturers; they really deserve it...
You’re the best Marek!!
I have had a number of 5 series cars over the years, they are brilliant machines to live with. I drive an SUV because I drive off road, as a result I miss my 5!😊
The 5 Series Touring is THE car. I wish they made a slightly lifted version, like Audi's allroad models.

Great review Marek!)))

Certainly bigger. The i4 feels quite cramped inside.
Buy the petrol or diesel.
@@namechecksout6300 Why would I do that when I'm in the market for an electric vehicle?
Good choice!
I'm wondering if there's a diesel variant of the new 5 Series?
Mainly like the 20d or maybe even a 30d or 40d variants?
There is the 520d G60 currently available.
197PS 2.0 diesel, available with rear or all-wheel drive.
Not available in the UK or Ireland.
@@DaveDVideoMaker I see now.
I'm guessing that the diesel variant was not sold due to emission reasons...

They sell it in mainland Europe.

I love it, its gorgeous!
We all know that somewhere there is a BMW driver hacking this car to make the booster permanent...
good review.
How much for the 'indicator pack' ?
No BMW owner seems to option for them as those yellow things on the side never seem to work
That's the most expensive option. Nobody chooses its.

We don't get MG here, so not likely.
