  • What is overlanding?
    Overlanding is booming in popularity, largely because people yearn for knowledge and adventure. Perhaps more folks are wanting to get away from the city madness! Whatever the reason, overlanding gives you an opportunity to explore the world and learn from it. But what is overlanding? We are enthusiasts of overlanding, and we want to share the humble knowledge we have built up on this matter. It is our hope by doing so we can help you explore the world and learn from it. What is overlanding to us and more importantly, what is it to you?
    Special thanks to @Venture2Roam (Idaho, USA) and @OverlandLady (BC, Canada) for this awesome collaboration! Thanks to @4x4ventures_southafrica for the banger drone shots!

    What is overladning? I try to answer this question with this little documentary, 3 overlanders (from 3 different countries) share our perspectives.

    Thanks for this video, truly. Everything said really hit my chest. I grew up before "overlanding" was a big thing and loved it. Joining the miltary made less and less time for it and can feel the disconnection to that great feeling. I'm finally hanging up my boots and retiring and cant wait to get back to the journey. Thank you so much for making this video. Cheers 😊🤙🏽

    At the most basic, overlanding is simply travelling overland. This could by by vehicle, motorcycle, horse, on foot, donkey cart, bicycle or possibly even by train or bus. But it is more, it is about being self sufficient and not dependent on infrastructure whether by being totally self-sufficient to a degree that you are comfortable with. I am frequently criticised that what I am doing is not overlanding since I will travel to a distant location and typically set up camp for a week and use that as a base from which to explore whether by hiking, photographing nature, cycling or 4x4 excursions. I counter by saying that if you want to watch rugby next Saturday, you won't be driving from the one rugby field to the other in the hope of seeing a fantastic try being scored, but you will use reliable information to go to only one location where the best rugby match worth watching is being played. That is why I go to an area and get to know the feeling of the land, the smells and the mood of the land throughout the day and night and what makes those people and their history and landscape unique. Yes I do shake my head at the "official overlanders" that camp for a single night and depart in a mad rush heading for their next target on the map hundreds of kilometers away. I feel that soaking up the land is something I simply have to do and to document my experience photographically while telling the story of that land and its people.

    While you have contributed to my understanding of overlanding. And you really have done so, let me tell you that my intention is not to run away from the norm (eg a house, a family, all the problems that I might face). I wish I would be able to go somewhere with the means I have: alas I cannot as yet. But when I do. It would not be running away: from self, means or judgement. Thank you for your honesty and bringing overlanding to many and myself. Groete boet!

    Overland i think is the version of overseas. Wherein you go accross different lands mostly remote

    • @GetOutGO
      @GetOutGO  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Overlanding is often categorized as exactly that, yes. I think the point we’re trying to make is it doesn’t really matter what you call it as long as you get out there and enjoy it 😉

      First you need a vehicle, doesn’t have to be a 4x4. Start with spots close to home that have all the facilities you need. A 4x4 does take you further off the beaten track so if you do want to go that route, have a look at this video;
