First let me say that I really enjoy your reviews. Honest and insightful. I did want to disagree with you on the overall value of the P10. I am in So. Calif. Prices on a 4 string( I know you reviewed the 5 string) alder body P7 are $604.The P10 is priced at $1295. A $695 difference. For that you get a slightly asymmetrical rear side on the neck means the top is more rounded while the bottom is slightly slimmer as well as being roasted maple with abalone. The body also has a Curved Top upper bout for more comfort. I like you would like to see upgrades in tuners and the bridge even the pickups. But for $695 extra I'll take that neck all day long and mod it like you. Keep the honest reviews and info coming.
Thanks Tom! Great comment! It looks like they took some of my advice regarding the hardware too with the new P10dx model. Hipshot all around from the factory (and USA tuners)!
I just checked the P10dx online. You get all that you said along with gold finish hardware, a "solid" maple top and a Sire hard case. That is one bad ass bass for $1,599. I thought I read somewhere that the P10's were made in South Korea?? Now, where and when can you buy one? Can't find one anywhere..
@@tomdessaint6521 They come with their new TSA hard case too! I don't believe they're made in korea. I believe the new DX models along with the other new releases are in the process of coming out. They said early november but some folks are already getting their P5R's (rosewood board!) They'll start popping up online soon enough!
I agree, product planning team dropped the ball on the price/feature balance here. You are 100% correct on this being way overpriced, but then again, Sire may be trying to 'pull up' the entire price range by having this bass being the top of the line... but they forgot put the 'top of the line features' to accomplish that. Great review video!! You are killing it!!! Thanks!!! Please keep it up!
Super annoying to have to change a battery in the middle of a show or even at practice with these battery plates. I have no idea what the trend with these is about but I have noticed several manufacturers doing this lately. It doesn't cost very much for a battery door. They have zero excuses for this. Engineer a better door if they break, don't just omit it. This aint rocket science. I have several on my 25+ year old basses that are still just fine. That neck looks amazing. I love those inlays. Another great review!
Good review! I'm really looking forward to purchasing the P5 but, I'm gonna wait until I hear the sound and the reviews. Can't wait to hear your review on the P5.
I had the v10 5 string last year & had to send it back as the tone controls wasn't working & the battery wire was a shoddy piece of joined wire. I also found it to be heavy. And as Lobster mentioned that battery compartment with four screws is so annoying.
XD Thank you! The U5 is IMO the best short scale value at $500 right now. Cheaper and better equipped than the Fallout or Stingray, and more mod options as well!
Sire is a brand you either love it or hate it and I really love these basses at first the preamp was confusing but after sitting down and messing around with it and watching Marcus Miller demonstrate the preamp I know how to make the preamp work with me I’m sorry you didn’t care for this model but I’m looking forward to getting the v10 and p10 basses
Thanks! Don't get me wrong, I love the brand and my P10.. I just had to mod the hell out of it haha. Sires are some of my favorite mod platforms, they have great bones. Using the same preamp from their bottom tier bass as their top tier IMO isn't a good look.
Know a custom Luthier ( don't know if he still does ) who custom made name brand basses and guitars for noted player. The companies gave permission to put their logo on the headstock. Have a feeling a custom Luthier is making the Sire basses for Marcus with rights to use their logo on the headstock.
Interesting thought, Ralph! I'm hoping to get more clarity on the production process in an upcoming LobsterChat with Kyle Kim! We're laying the groundwork for that now :)
Hi Lob great job as ever Still I’d like to point a few things out I kept my attention on these and, in the eve of incoming new V10/P10 dlx, I was able to get me a deal on a natural, alder body P10 5 string I had (apart from more V7 alder vintage 5 string, V5 alder rosewood 5 string, P5 rosewood) a natural P7 ash 5 string I payed for it exactly half the price of present P10 5 string Still… even if electronics/pickups/hard ware “should” have been the very same (I’m talking 2nd gen of course): - fret edges are really rounded on the P10, not so on the P7 - knobs are ok now and just meh on the P7 - jack socket is alright now while used to slip away every now and then out of the P7 - pickups are perfect out of the box (actually the gigbag) now on the P10 and where far from “ok” on the P7 - wood is sincerely high quality (and quite light) here on the P10, while absolutely heavy and not that appealing on the P7 - hardware looks to be the same but is precise and tight now on the P10 and was definitely far from spot on on the P7 Alright Did I eventually get a lemon with that P7? Considering the price gap between american series in the Fender range, mutatis mutandis I presume the different price tag between the P10 and the P7 relies on “quality” Cheers, Claudio
Not having a battery door is not a deal breaker on a bass with an active bypass. The Sire certainly seems to be a better deal than the Roger Sadowsky Design PJ with the noisy bridge pickup.
It definitely looks great and sounds ok. I would want some electronic upgrades along with the tuners though. If I were in a position to upgrade a $1500 bass I would buy it, however I'm not.
Everybody pretty much quit using those nice battery doors because they break easily. Surly(Shirley😅) someone could make them out of better material.. I had to replace one on my Wolf 5 string because it broke...
Fantastic review. Thorough, frank and honest. Sire seems pretty responsive to input. I’m curious how they evolve their line. The D5 and P5 look promising!
Any idea when you put out a review for the M5. I mean I've got one, just interested what you have to say about this especially the tone control and possible inconsistent volume control? Did you find the same in yours? I have one already in the same finish as yours btw, just being weird. Great content by the way, loving the channel and appreciate all the hard work you've been putting in. Plus that crustacean smile when you play at the beginning always gives up how you feel about a bass before you speak :) You're very down to earth and informative which is why I love your channel. Plus happy Easter to everyone on this channel if you are that way inclined!
Thank you Christopher! M5 review drops next Sunday! I did not find the volume control inconsistent in my M5, I actually REALLY liked it and think it's one of the best Sire values out there. It's not perfect (the tone control SUCKS like on all of the Sire preamps), but IMO is the best value active bass they make. I find the V5 to be the best of the V series, as the preamp is a little but much for a jazz bass IMO and you can easily spend an extra 50% on a V7 and not get any added value. However with the M series, the M5 has premium materials, tonal flexibility, and a really solid price tag to boot!
Great review lobster! I agree totally, the P10 is over priced. To add more confusion to the mix, Sire offer the similarly priced V10 but also, a V9 which ranges between $650-$830 and has the visual upgrades over the V7, but doesn't have the fancy neck. Food for thought 🤔
Thanks Ryan! Excellent point Maciej, and I agree. They should revamp some of their current models. IMO, they should go all in on the roasted maple. Standard across the board and have at most 3-4 models in each lineup (M, V, P, etc). The V is especially convoluted with the V3, V5, V7, V7 ash, V7 vintage, V7 vintage ash, V9, and V10. They all have the same preamp outside of the passive V5 (which is arguably the best one! IMO).
@@LowEndLobster And the color, pickguard and fingerboard options between alder, ash and vintage/standard V7 are so confusing... I got decision fatigue when I was thinking about buying a V7.
What a bummer for that price. Pass. Awesome video regardless. Good job!! Looking out for the masses. I was watching the Ric 5 string video last night. You’ve come a long way in a short time buddy. So proud of you. Cheers
Thanks Tommy! It's truly crazy and I find myself in disbelief every day with how far this channel has come in a year. Thanks for being there during the journey!
Sire appear to have given priority to neck candy over some of the basics on other parts of the bass. The body looks like 3 pieces rather than a nice centre joined two piece which you should find on a bass in this price range. The bridge isn't the best and I have some concerns over the use of only 4 screws to secure it to the body. At this price point you are in Sandberg territory and I think I would rather have the Sandberg which uses excellent quality components throughout. Sires sweet spot is with the 5 and 7 series basses I don't think this one is worth the extra cash.
I am too! I LOOOOOOVE my '5' series Sires so much. My V5 fretless (now modded heavily) is so expressive and easy to play. We actually might be the FIRST channel to feature the P5 :)
Good review and very fair points. That neck is beautiful a d the bass sounds great, but the hardware is an issue on a bass that costs that much. The tuners are at least easily replaced? But, that bridge design needs to go. Thanks! Really looking forward to buying a P5 when they come out.
Thanks Mark! Tuners were a pretty easy swap, I've done it quite a few times now so it has gotten easier. I'm going to make a video on it when I swap em out on my V7 and/or U5. I agree with the bridge as well. I've swapped it out with an Albridge one and am very pleased with the upgrade. I've swapped the preamp and left the stock pickups, but now am going to do the pickups as well.
Hey Lobster! Really appreciated this video! Always enjoy seeing your content! What size of Hipshot Ultralights did you use? I’m thinking about getting some for my V7gen2 and I’m a little stumped on which ones to get! I’d love to hear your input! Thanks!
1/2 inch. I'll be making a video on the installation process as I still need to do the same to my V7 and U5 especially since this is the number one question people have been asking. I don't blame em either, it's such a worthwhile upgrade on these basses but there's so little documentation out there. Thank you Johnny!
Hey man ! As you know, I LOVE my stock 1st gen P7.I can't see liking a P/J any more, so I find it tough to see how I'd like this $1000 more than mine (?) EDIT : You answered my question as I was typing this.
@@LowEndLobster I NEVER get tired or cease to be amazed by the Sire P7. It is outstanding in every way. No better P/J on the market for that price, IMO.
Thanks Todd! Indeed the price tag is quite steep here and definitely isn't justified in many ways. A great feeling bass is a great feeling bass, and this is one.. but a $1500 feeling bass this is not. Well said!
It does look and sound beautiful. I love the look of the roasted maple neck, which I don't think the P7 has. I am trying to decide between P10 or M7 swamp ash 5 string. Do you have a preference between the 2? Isn't th P10 body alder under the maple veneer. I think the B string on the M7 sounds a little tighter and better.
I haven't played the M7 yet, but it shares the electronics with the M5 - and that's a hell of an instrument out of the box. Super flexible with great feel. The 5 string models are 35" scale. Sire does a good job with their B strings in both 34" and 35" scale. The P10 IMO has a great neck and body, but the electronics and hardware are essentially the same as a P7. IMO the M7 would present a better value overall
Thank you. Great video as usual. I've considered the P7 for a while, the P10 is definitely out of my budget. I'm really curious about the P5 and the D5. Are you planning to check them out?
Great review 🦞. I love the roasted neck, but don’t see the value in this model. I’ve owned 1st and 2nd generation V7 5’s and have the same pet peeves with the hardware. I can deal with the bridge on my V7 vintage, seriously considering replacing the tuners, if I don’t sell it because of the weight. P.S. TB site is down, so much time on my hands 💀
Nice! That thing is snappy! Nice looking too, but at that price, I'd be looking for a pre owned Maruszczyk, or Lakland. The neck on that Sire looks sick though. If I were really the baller that I act like at times, I'd buy that thing just for the neck.
At $1500 I'd probably go with a Fender American instead but with that said I still love my V5, V7, V3 . Sire is actually coming out with D5 a 50s single coil p bass cant wait. Also ,What strings do you like for slap?
Hey mate, I have the chance to get one for around 1000 bucks would you personally recommend it? I dig the playability, but I dont want to spend more than its worth. Keep the good work up!
Sorry to derail LEL, but I don't have another outlet... can you get into TB? I've been trying for a day and it seems like the site is down... ...or my wife is tired of me being on their all the time... ;)
Great video, thank you. I just ordered a U5 from Thomann. I love the sound of the MJC's you put on but unfortunately (as you probably know) , due to the death of the owner, they don't seem available at this time. What different set would you recommend for string thru on this bass? Thanks so much.
I understand that the p10 only comes in Alder wood but the P7 you can get the Ash too.. I have always bought the Ash wood do you think if I upgrade to the p10 it would make a difference as the wood is only in alder?
Different folks will say different things in regards to tonewood. The standard P10 and P7 are already very similar as they essentially share the same electronics and hardware. Sire just dropped the new P10dx that has Hipshot USA ultralight tuners and a kickass bridge, so that's a nice upgrade to see to differentiate the two more.
@@LowEndLobster i was looking at the P8, but it looks like there is a new p10 in my area for 999.99 - same one you are referencing in this video and not the dx version. choices choices..i think i will got for the p10 for the roasted look. other wise they are pretty much the same.
For best feeling, it might be my V5 fretless. I've modded the heck out of it with new tuners, bridge and pickups- but I did that because the feel was already there, just needed the hardware and guts to match. Great question!
Lobster! Hey I have the U5, how would the hipshot tuners work with that bass for weight AND size, like is it an exact fit? If well, what is the model of the tuners? Thanks so much
Thanks Daniel! I'm actually going to be modding my U5 with Hipshots, a new bridge, and some pickups as well (Aguilar DCBs). The Hipshot imports use 17mm as opposed to 18mm bushings, but it's easy to compensate with some tape. I've used painters tape, but others have recommended aluminum or some sort of metallic tape for less squish/flex. I use the 1/2" Hipshot Ultralites. You can also just purchase 18mm bushings that will work without the need for any of that and get an exact fit. You're welcome :)
I know this post is old but i have the v9 SA 4 and I am trying to replace the tuners (heavy nose dive) and the bridge. I know the HP-HB7 are direct fit but i am looking for a good medium bridge that has the same 4 screw layout. Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you
Do you find you get a slight single coil hum on the P pickup? I get a hum on my 5 string P because the coils aren't perfectly balanced. Not as bad as a regular single coil but it''s still there.
I haven't noticed any noise, but I've since swapped the preamp in this and will be swapping out the pickups this week. Going to build a hybrid Aguilar P-5 pickup (treble side will be 4 string sized) for this bass, and we'll see if I encounter something similar.
Are the original tuners the same that comes with V7? If I want to swap the original tuners on my V7, do I have to use USA ultralites, or licensed Ultralites? Thanks!
Great question! Yes, they appear to be the same tuner. USA Ultralites I believe have the 18mm bushings which will be a true 'drop in' (though you will have to drill a single hole for each tuner). The imports use the 17mm bushings, which are not a problem. You can either buy the 18mm ones or use some tape (aluminum or painters tape are commonly used here) to add a little bit of thickness to the 17mm one until it fits snugly in the hole. I used the import ones on my Sire V5 and P10 and used painters tape to buff up the bushing to fit with great results.
If you had ANSI/etc standard mechanical drawings of what you wanted, there's likely a CNC shop in the nearest town that could at least rough out what you want. Bodies are pretty easy to work with for anyone with a moderately crafty nature, so at that point you're reduced to finding necks you like, so you can afford to buy up if you need to for the one you think you want. I know a LOT of out of work or underemployed cabinet makers that would EXCEL at making whatever configuration bodies you'd like and most of them could handle the precision/accuracy required to make fretted necks from raw stock. It's even more twisted to understand most of these folks (I'm in Oregon, USA) make basically minimum wage and do not have unions available as most of the wood products unions have died off with the mills. If you wanted to set up a domestic production shop, Michigan, Oregon/NoCal, and anywhere there is swamp ash will have a depressed economy of underutilized generational artisans in the types of materials we like. Okay, look. If anyone wants to start a bass, or even guitar for that matter, company, just let me know please. We have a LOT of wood here. I will help you find it and maybe make jobs in TWO states, huh?
I really really appreciate your straight up honest review, some people are scared and don’t have the balls to tell us the truth how they really feel because they don’t want to ruin their discounts with that company or ruin getting free bass guitars. Stay honest and the pipsqueeks with tiny vaginas will stay scared of your man bass review channel!
If the capacitor is disconnected from one of the contacts, it will surely not work and do nothing at both extremes. Sounds like that may be the case if it does literally nothing.
Other than the tuning keys, I absolutely sold on my 1st generation V7 5. I would definitely consider getting a P7 5, which I really like, but would not spend $1500 on the P10 or any Sire bass.
Aesthetically, the P10. The V10 and P10 are prettied up V7/P7's with premium (and incredibly nice) necks. However the electronics and hardware is the same
1/2 inch ones. I had to wrap the bushings with some tape to add a little diameter with the stock import ones (17mm), but you can get 18mm ones separately direct from hipshot if you want ones that don't need the tape mod to fit snug. I did the mod do my V5 fretless and have two more sets on the way for my V7 vintage and U5.
The latest Sires are usually 8.5-10 lbs in my experience. I know the Gen 1 ones were known to be a bit heavier but Gen 2 and beyond have gotten the weight under control
I think this bass is a victim of how good the mid-tier Sires actually are. I'm after a Swamp Ash P7 myself but a daughter is coming in July so I'll have to hold back on expenses at the moment.
You could do a Warmoth custom build, on a payment plan if you even wanted, for 80% of this instrument MSRP (July is still like 11 weeks off). This means you get the electronics and hardware you want too, not just pickup selection...everything. I'm not cross promoting Warmoth (they're like a 45 min hop across the Columbia River for me, I just know about them and they are NOT cheap), but outside of some very small woodshops here and there it's hard to find good domestically built parts at what I'd consider to be fair prices for the quality of wood + labor/artisanship. When I have the cash it's going to be VERY hard for me to drop over 1800 USD on any OEM instrument because in the Pacific Northwest we have great access to nearly all but the most exotic instrument crafting materials, locally.
@@russellzauner I don't really think it's the materials that dictate the prices, even the most exotic ones. It's what the luthier thinks that makes his while worth that dictates the prices, sometimes to exorbitant levels, like you said. Since all instruments are more or less hand built, even by the big companies, I just can't justify such prices. Look at how beautiful instruments Cort produces for just 500$. I've owned one, it looks and feels really excellent, top-notch in craftsmanship and finish (sound is another thing). So I think that those guys are aiming more towards the "unique" aspect of their creations rather the better quality & materials one. Which is fine by me but I just never bought the "exclusive" or "unique" thing in anyghing, be it musical instruments, clothes or vehicles. I cherish the time when a big company will start offering limited bespoke instruments at a sensible price. I'd immediately splash 1000$ to a company that could offer me options on body shape, colour/finish, neck wood, nut width & pickups. If the options are limited and the parts interchangeable then it wouldn't be such a managerial burden for them - a 1000$ Cort or Ibanez with P pickups of my choice, bridge of my choice, maple neck and 38mm nut would definitely allow for good profit margin if they can now produce the main models for a profit at 500-600$.
Excellent point Marios and you're 100% right. The P7 is one of the long-time stars of the sire lineup and is both an excellent bass at its price point as well as an excellent mod platform. Congrats on your daughter!
Agreed! Funny enough, when I was reading up on the launch of these basses, one outlet listed it as a full flamed top and not a veneer... but the odd thing was the pic that they showed had the full flamed top! Very weird
I've always been suspicious about Sire~ I think they wrote Marcus Miller a big, fat $$$ check & then told him to go away & not talk to them. They should have built a better spec'd bass at the same price & even THEN they would be facing a lot of established competition in that price range (G&L) I DO really like the roasted maple fingerboard trend though~
Me too. This bass excels on all the points where Sires excel. Build quality, neck feel, aesthetics. However stock, the hardware, preamp, etc. are not at the same tier IMO. Great comment Mikey!
1:50 if someone were in the store and picked that up and loved it, I've seen MANY suppliers charging WAY more of offshore built instruments and honestly, this is literally not anyone else's factory. It's Dame Guitars. Try asking Kyle himself why the cap and why the veneer lol, i mean...he does do interviews and I'll say that every time you look at a Sire instrument.
*I don't think Sire is trying to be the winner in any price point, they're trying to get good instruments into the hands of players and if the couple things you say were swapped out I think it would be well worth it and fully competitive against brands that try to punch super high using offshore mfg. The difference is that Kyle owns his place lol
8:20 jeez. gut the electronics. put in a passive geezer set lol make this bass leverage all that wood, it was built as a tone sensitive instrument only to be detesticled by the electronics...hm.
9:30 that bass looks like it should rip the roof off and it's just making poo puddles with your tone, what the fuck - get Kyle on here, I HAVE QUESTIONS Like, can I have you build me a bass? I want double p and jazzbuckers - that neck, and I've said it before, is the epitome of what a fretless fingerboard should be - it got the shellacking like the Rickenbackers...
For that price I'd buy a Fender American professional II and drop a sweet Preamp in it or a Fender Deluxe Active J Bass. That bass is way over priced for what you get.
No way would I pay that much for a Sire. I can get a top line USA Fender for just a little more. Each of my mint used Warmoths cost half as much and would smoke that in a second. They are insane.
Sounds super! As a lot of issues out of the box. Poor value from the money 🦨. 1,500us Close to the price point of that gorgeous Gibson, Professional Mk II. The Marcus Miller, You made it sing. Pass Next.
All I needed to hear what that the bass needed a mod to sound better and that a "top of the line" bass also needed ultra light tuners. Hard pass. I would never accept such mediocrity, esp from a $1300.00 instrument. I could get a USA Geddy for that price, or many other badass basses with great resale value. Who TF would buy this?
Thanks longdongbongchong! I agree. I think Sire does an excellent job of building a 'foundation' (body/neck), but things start to get complicated with the electronics and disappointing with the hardware. You make an excellent point about alternatives as well!
Hi 🦞. You replaced tuners with Hipshot licenced ultralight tuners. Are the USA Hipshot ultralight tuners worth the extra money. Or just save and go for the licenced. If fitting to a Msicman would you go for USA as they are reversible or just buy 3 right 1 left licenced tuners? Also different materials? Good review again .👍
Nice review! Is the P7 2nd Gen more neck heavy? I have a 2nd Gen P7 and was thinking of upgrading to the 10 looking for less weight and better balance . Thought about using the lightweight Hipshot tuners on my P7. From what you’re saying, that might be a smarter move vs a 1500 dollar investment in a P10.
Though I've only played the 1st gen P7 and my P10 as far as the P series goes, I would 100% upgrade your tuners if you want better balance. The P10 and the Gen 1 P7 balanced about the same pre-tuner swap IMO.
@@LowEndLobster Thank you! I called Hipshot and ordered a set of Ultra Lights today. I love the sound and playability of my P7 2nd Gen and was considering a P10 but I’d have to sell my P7 to do that. I really don’t want to part with it. It’s a beautiful axe in swamp ash sunburst. I’m playing it in some of my videos here on my TH-cam channel. Thanks again for the info and this awesome review!
Great question! It depends honestly. The P7 gen 1 was over 10 lbs, my P10 is in the 9 lb range. Your mileage may vary as weight can differ from example to example.
Yeah, I think they're selling the aesthetic more than anything. Don't get me wrong, it feels and plays spectacularly... but for $1600 I want something more than a prettied up P7.
@@LowEndLobster Agree. Man, prices for basses went up very high recently. 2 years ago, a Yamaha was €1,599. Now it's €1,999! I remember a Fender MIA P was €1,200 in 2013. Now it's €1,999 in Germany. Just for a simple P! I recently discovered FAME guitars. It's a brand from Mayones and the guitars and basses are specifically made for Musticstore out of Köln, Germany. With a FAME bass you nearly get an exact copy of a Warwick Corvette with active MEC pickups and preamp, high quality hardware, perfect fretwork and overall insane good quality for mindblowing €900. These are handmade! in Poland.
I must say that you aren't reviewing the bass. You are reviewing the deal. So if you are looking for a good bass, that is not relevant. in your way of reviewing a cheap bass of mediocre quality may make a better score than per example this P10 from Sire which is, as you say, a VERY good bass. It is for everyone to consider the price. I just want to know if the bass is any good.
Great comment! IMO the price and the deal is a part of the bass. A Ferrari with the body and engine of a Honda Civic will still be a good car, but it is objectively a worse than the identical Honda Civic without the Ferrari badge- especially if the Ferrari Civic costs over double the Honda. This P10 shares the hardware and electronics of the P7, which is significantly less expensive.. The preamp is literally the same one that's in the V3 that's under $400. For a flagship instrument, I think there should be more to differentiate it from the lower level one which shares a LOT of the same stuff. A purdy flamed maple veneer and a roasted maple neck (it's really a KILLER neck) do not do enough to differentiate the model IMO. I do not review basses in a vacuum and take the value proposition into account when scoring these instruments. That being said, the score I give all the instruments my review is just my opinion and folks are free to disagree.
23:51 OMG replacing the Jazz with the M series humbucker is a brilliant idea! Genius!

Thanks Doom! One thing I've seen some luthiers do which I wish would catch on.... small magnets holding on the cavity cover. C'mon!
I've always gotten around this by just leaving 2 of the 4 screws out. Not ideal, but better than 4 screws in the middle of a set 😂
Your a breath of fresh air, your explanation and bass skills are tops. That Sire should be under $1000, she sure looks and sounds the part!
Thank you John! :)
Hi Lobster, very good honest review as always! I agree to not paying substantial amount of money with very little variants! 👍🏾💯
Thanks Trevor!
Good review! I'm really looking forward to purchasing the P5 but, I'm gonna wait until I hear the sound and the reviews. Can't wait to hear your review on the P5.
Thanks BassMusician! You'll be seeing the P5 here first (hopefully!) :)
I had the v10 5 string last year & had to send it back as the tone controls wasn't working & the battery wire was a shoddy piece of joined wire. I also found it to be heavy. And as Lobster mentioned that battery compartment with four screws is so annoying.
Thanks for sharing, Bryan!
I have a P-7 and I love it.
Your review of the Sire P10 made me want to buy a Sire U5.
@@LowEndLobsterthe same amp but different pick up and different neck...
I am sure you got that right with the price in comparison but I love the sound.
Thanks J!
Hi Lob great job as ever
Still I’d like to point a few things out
I kept my attention on these and, in the eve of incoming new V10/P10 dlx, I was able to get me a deal on a natural, alder body P10 5 string
I had (apart from more V7 alder vintage 5 string, V5 alder rosewood 5 string, P5 rosewood) a natural P7 ash 5 string
I payed for it exactly half the price of present P10 5 string
Still… even if electronics/pickups/hard ware “should” have been the very same (I’m talking 2nd gen of course):
- fret edges are really rounded on the P10, not so on the P7
- knobs are ok now and just meh on the P7
- jack socket is alright now while used to slip away every now and then out of the P7
- pickups are perfect out of the box (actually the gigbag) now on the P10 and where far from “ok” on the P7
- wood is sincerely high quality (and quite light) here on the P10, while absolutely heavy and not that appealing on the P7
- hardware looks to be the same but is precise and tight now on the P10 and was definitely far from spot on on the P7
Alright
Did I eventually get a lemon with that P7?
Considering the price gap between american series in the Fender range, mutatis mutandis I presume the different price tag between the P10 and the P7 relies on “quality”
Cheers,
Claudio
Not having a battery door is not a deal breaker on a bass with an active bypass. The Sire certainly seems to be a better deal than the Roger Sadowsky Design PJ with the noisy bridge pickup.
Agreed! However, the foam insert suction issue that I had made the battery cavity cover that much more infuriating.
@@LowEndLobster I’m sure that issue was annoying. I could hear the frustration in your voice!
Thanks Lobste! Can you also do an Albridge review. I notice you upgraded the bridge on this bass. Thanks.
Thanks Al! Yes, I'll do a vid highlighting these bridges as I've installed them on 3 sires and a SUB already :)
Another great review! Just ordered some Ultralights for my V5 5 string, that thing is very neck heavy. Hopefully it helps.
Thanks! It will definitely help. I'm going to make a vid on the tuner swap for my V7 at some point (already swapped this and my V5)
It definitely looks great and sounds ok. I would want some electronic upgrades along with the tuners though. If I were in a position to upgrade a $1500 bass I would buy it, however I'm not.
Thanks Jason! I just wrapped up the final mods on this bass, vids coming soon. All the hardware and electronics have been replaced! :)
Everybody pretty much quit using those nice battery doors because they break easily. Surly(Shirley😅) someone could make them out of better material.. I had to replace one on my Wolf 5 string because it broke...
True. I wish they'd just employ magnetic doors and have a little cutaway for your finger to pull the door out.
Fantastic review. Thorough, frank and honest.
Sire seems pretty responsive to input. I’m curious how they evolve their line.
The D5 and P5 look promising!
Thanks Griz! I agree, we'll be the first channel hopefully to get the D5 and P5 :)
GOOD LOOKIN” Out LOBSTER !!!!l🦞
Decent review as always, man. Quite versatile bass, nice sound low B.
Thanks!
Good to know that aside from great looks, the 7 is a better value. Thanks
LETS GOOOOOO
WOOOOOO!
Sire offers a lot of models, but the combinations of options seem to be a little chaotic IMO.
The V5 is my favourite too, simple, very attractive, sounds great and the neck is beautiful
So many V's lobster 😅
What a bummer for that price. Pass. Awesome video regardless. Good job!! Looking out for the masses.
I was watching the Ric 5 string video last night. You’ve come a long way in a short time buddy. So proud of you. Cheers
Thanks Tommy! It's truly crazy and I find myself in disbelief every day with how far this channel has come in a year. Thanks for being there during the journey!
@@LowEndLobster cheers buddy. You’re a natural entertainer.
I am so curious about the P5, i wonder when will it be available :))
I am too! I LOOOOOOVE my '5' series Sires so much. My V5 fretless (now modded heavily) is so expressive and easy to play. We actually might be the FIRST channel to feature the P5 :)
@@LowEndLobster i am also excited about them🙃☝️....dont forget the more classic d5!
@@LowEndLobster can't wait 😁
Hey man ! As you know, I LOVE my stock 1st gen P7.I can't see liking a P/J any more, so I find it tough to see how I'd like this $1000 more than mine (?)
EDIT : You answered my question as I was typing this.
:) Happy to help.
@@LowEndLobster I NEVER get tired or cease to be amazed by the Sire P7. It is outstanding in every way. No better P/J on the market for that price, IMO.
the only way i can say it is Gear heads dont know the value of a dollar. gear is way over priced. ridiculous pricing! all across the board.
@@LowEndLobster I'm thinking I would just as soon have an M5 as an M7.
Thank you. Great video as usual. I've considered the P7 for a while, the P10 is definitely out of my budget. I'm really curious about the P5 and the D5. Are you planning to check them out?
Thanks Gianluigi! Yes, we'll absolutely be checking out both basses as soon as they're available!
Thanks Ozzie! I just finished my final mods on this bass yesterday (video coming in some weeks)- all the hardware and electronics have been replaced!
Cool, I’ll be here for that!
Can u make an review of the Sire v9?
Thanks Mes! I'll do my best :)
@@LowEndLobster that'd be nice, keep up the good work brother!
I totally agree about the battery access, It needs a Yamaha style battery door but yes beautiful looking bass and oh my god, that fretboard 👅
Thanks Dave! Yeah this neck is a looker and a half, feels great too. Definitely the highlight of this bass.
Nice honest review.
Thanks Alan!
Nice! That thing is snappy! Nice looking too, but at that price, I'd be looking for a pre owned Maruszczyk, or Lakland. The neck on that Sire looks sick though. If I were really the baller that I act like at times, I'd buy that thing just for the neck.
Thanks Bizi! Indeed the neck is quite a looker and a player
At $1500 I'd probably go with a Fender American instead but with that said I still love my V5, V7, V3 .
Sire is actually coming out with D5 a 50s single coil p bass cant wait.
Also ,What strings do you like for slap?
Thanks Michael! My modded V5 might be my most favorite jazz of all time haha. We'll be the first to check out the new Sire lineup :)
Also, MJC Ironworks nickel plated stainless steel 45-105(125) are my go-to.
Have you reviewed the p7 ?
I couldn't see it on your TH-cam page but would be interested to hear your views on that
Hey Dave! Yes, I definitely plan on reviewing the P7 as well
Hey mate,
I have the chance to get one for around 1000 bucks would you personally recommend it? I dig the playability, but I dont want to spend more than its worth.
Keep the good work up!
Sorry to derail LEL, but I don't have another outlet... can you get into TB? I've been trying for a day and it seems like the site is down... ...or my wife is tired of me being on their all the time... ;)
Server got hosed (literally, fire drill), there was some stuff on FB's TB page.
Great video, thank you. I just ordered a U5 from Thomann. I love the sound of the MJC's you put on but unfortunately (as you probably know) , due to the death of the owner, they don't seem available at this time. What different set would you recommend for string thru on this bass? Thanks so much.
Needs some nice Frank Bello pickups:)
I dunno, the P8 has some nice upgrades over the outgoing standard P10 and also comes with a case. High mass bridge, better battery box
@@LowEndLobster that is true! thanks for your input.! gonna go check em out
Of all the Sires, which one do you feel is the best?
For best feeling, it might be my V5 fretless. I've modded the heck out of it with new tuners, bridge and pickups- but I did that because the feel was already there, just needed the hardware and guts to match. Great question!
@@LowEndLobster What do you think about comparing V5 to some other passive Jazz Basses like Fender Player? ;) I'm super curious.
Hi Lobster, What is the frequency range of the mid control?
I think it's variable on the uni (I might be thinking the MMSR). I think you have 100-1000hz or 200-2000hz as options
If you said it, I missed it sorry.
What is string spacing at the bridge?
No worries! 18mm
Hey lobster, what's your opinion on the V9 vs the V10?
Do you know if a regular p-pickguard would fit the P7? I would like to install a simpler preamp.
I think they'll somewhat fit. Holes may not line up 100 percent and you may have to drill a few but I've seen someone do it successfully
Shheesh.
First comment! ;P You should see this thing post mods. I have one more mod planned which will be happening this week....
Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you
Been looking at these basses, what's your honest opinion on it?
I can't get my slap technique down....I know how to do it but I can't get to go very fast. What do you suggest?
Practice :) - you will get it in time! Good luck!
Well said! I've dabbled with the idea down the line of using the channel to design/build/promote a new bass design...
I really really appreciate your straight up honest review, some people are scared and don’t have the balls to tell us the truth how they really feel because they don’t want to ruin their discounts with that company or ruin getting free bass guitars. Stay honest and the pipsqueeks with tiny vaginas will stay scared of your man bass review channel!
what do you think a fair price for the Sire p10 would be instead?
Is it common for the tone knob not to work? I believe mine does not work at all.
If the capacitor is disconnected from one of the contacts, it will surely not work and do nothing at both extremes. Sounds like that may be the case if it does literally nothing.
@@LowEndLobster okay I will check it put then. Yeah my M7 I can not hear a change at all so it must be it.
Hey are v9 alder better than v7 ash?
Which one would you suggest
Other than the tuning keys, I absolutely sold on my 1st generation V7 5. I would definitely consider getting a P7 5, which I really like, but would not spend $1500 on the P10 or any Sire bass.
Thanks Keith! Esp on the V1's, the tuning keys are the sticking point. Well said!
I love that neck
Thanks froge, me too
Interested...
Thanks Paul!
do you prefer the p10 or the v10?
Aesthetically, the P10. The V10 and P10 are prettied up V7/P7's with premium (and incredibly nice) necks. However the electronics and hardware is the same
What size ultralites did you use on this bass? I'm considering putting some on my V7 Vintage 5
@@LowEndLobster Good to know, thanks!
Does anyone know the weight of this bass or the average weight of the sire basses?
@@LowEndLobster Thanks!! :)
I think at $1500 there should be at least 1/4" flame top.
Agreed! Funny enough, when I was reading up on the launch of these basses, one outlet listed it as a full flamed top and not a veneer... but the odd thing was the pic that they showed had the full flamed top! Very weird
Is there a noticeable difference in volume when switching from active to passive?
You have an internal gain control to adjust the active output. You can match the active and passive outputs using that (or not)
@@LowEndLobster thanks
Thank you. I think I will save my $1,000
Glad you found this helpful, Bruce!
Can you tell me what tunes you got???
Tuners are Hipshot Ultralite Licensed. I got the nickel ones as opposed to the chrome on this bass and they look great.

1:00 calm down lloyd lol
5:20 if they used a metal battery flip box or build covers from scraps of wood from making the caps/veneer they could upsell even harder.
8:20 jeez. gut the electronics. put in a passive geezer set lol make this bass leverage all that wood, it was built as a tone sensitive instrument only to be detesticled by the electronics...hm.
9:30 that bass looks like it should rip the roof off and it's just making poo puddles with your tone, what the fuck - get Kyle on here, I HAVE QUESTIONS
Like, can I have you build me a bass? I want double p and jazzbuckers - that neck, and I've said it before, is the epitome of what a fretless fingerboard should be - it got the shellacking like the Rickenbackers...
For that price I'd buy a Fender American professional II and drop a sweet Preamp in it or a Fender Deluxe Active J Bass. That bass is way over priced for what you get.
Thanks EK2! I agree, we need smaller price tag or bigger feature set!
before the video started, i had to watch the new "snickers" ad..."snickers with peanut butter"....hmmm i think i am ready now😅
brb running to 7/11... totally not for a snickers with peanut butter.
No way would I pay that much for a Sire. I can get a top line USA Fender for just a little more. Each of my mint used Warmoths cost half as much and would smoke that in a second. They are insane.
Thanks! Indeed the price tag here is a bit of a turn off, and you're absolutely right about the alternatives.

That neck looks nice, but I have to agree with you here. It doesn't look like it's worth almost double the price of the regular model

@@LowEndLobster Does the P10 weigh about the same as the P7?
Great question! It depends honestly. The P7 gen 1 was over 10 lbs, my P10 is in the 9 lb range. Your mileage may vary as weight can differ from example to example.
I see you play PUBG, me too.
I love/hate it so much. Been playing since the beginning.
@@LowEndLobster Yes for sure, I've rage quitted many times. problem is unless you play all the time your skill level slips behind most players.
Waaaaaaaayyyyyyy too expensive for an Indonesian instrument.
The average wage is so low, it must be a huge profit for Sire and Miller
@@LowEndLobster OK answer. I thought you would come up with that. Maybe you should have different scores.
@@ketileinarnas9798 It's an arbitrary scoring system based on my opinion of an instrument and it's perceived value. I appreciate the suggestions....
Bean-counter bass!
On an unrelated note I'm now craving bean soup
