  • After 29 years the stock heater core in my pearl '93 S4 finally started to leak. I credit this impressive lifespan to my regular coolant exchanges and my insistence on using the coolant with a distilled water mix.
    Rather than jumping into the replacement blindly, I of course turned to the FAQ at Quattroworld as I knew the replacement process had been pretty well documented over there. Here is a link to the instructional PDF I used:

    If you don't want to silicone your heater box in, the part number for the OE foam gasket matches this inner door beam gasket - www.ecstuning....

    My heater core just broke on the inside and all the coolant was going to the air vents on the inside. This video helps me a lot. Thank you 👍🏻👍🏻

    Many thanks !! I have the same route to go through atm, so I was looking for a good "how to" and this one has been the best I've seen so far. For me it doesn't matter for how many days it will take, the most important - that everything gets done as it supposed to be and without greater losses, lol

    Great tutorial. This walked me all the way through the process on my 96 S6. The valve broke apart just like you said it would, so I just have it bypassed with a 4 inch fix pipe from the FLAPS in the meantime. I had no problem accessing the red/blue plugs through the radio opening. Didn't even have to unplug and re-enter the theft code.
    Great job - and thank you!

      I'm glad to hear it helped you through the process! Since doing this video and the heater core for the first time I've seen an old pro do the core replacement on my son's C4 A6 in under 3 hours from start to finish. I must say I felt like a fool with zero talent after seeing that! He'll be coming back in the spring and we'll be doing a 2.0 video that may help save some additional time. Of course it always takes me longer as I need to clean the daylights out of EVERYTHING while I'm in there. ;-)

      @@SCARSORGofficialmy heater core just started leaking into the cabin so thank you for this video. I do have a question about where to find the original radio removal tool/pins? I figured I might as well upgrade the radio and replace the 12v outlet while I'm in there but can't find what tool I need to pull the radio. Thank you!

    Hi! Very helpful video. I was wondering, do URS4s have no cabin filter?

    • @DarinNederhoff
      @DarinNederhoff 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Correct, there is no cabin filter on the UrS4. They we only on the UrS6 and from what I have seen, very few get changed regularly.

    Is it mandatory to remove the whole box just to replace the blower motor?

  • @jwagoner65
    @jwagoner65 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What brand/supplier blower motor would you recommend? Going to do this job shortly on our project Urs6 and want to replace everything while it’s apart.

      @SCARSORGofficial  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, I don't find too many options out there. Meyle, URO, TYC mainly. I have a Meyle spare in my parts cabinet. The blower motor can be changed more easily than the heater core so I'm less picky about the brand for them. If you really want original, you can still get them from Audi Tradition for around 250 Euros. shops.audi.com/en_GB/web/tradition/p/blower-4a0959101a-10?search_term=4A0959101A

      @@SCARSORGofficial Thanks for the info! If it's much easier to do with the heater core in the care I'll probably just stay with the one we have now since it seems to be working ok, 250 euros is a bit much (!!) and those other brands seems pretty easy to source. Thanks for all the great videos!

    hello will this process be the same on my 1995.5 Audi S6 Avant?

      Yes, should be the same.

      @@SCARSORGofficial What about the cabin filter on the S6? Where is that located? Thank you for doing this video! Love the urS content. Keep it coming! Earned a subscription.

      @@milehightiedyes2957 The cabin filter is under the bottom windshield cowl area on the U.S. passenger side of the car. Remove the large plastic rain tray, remove both wiper arms, remove the lower windshield trim and then you should be able to access the plastic cover over the cabin filter. (You should be able to sneak a peek of this cover area after you remove the big rain tray. Make sure the cabin filter area has what appears to be a door/cover with a couple bolt heads on it. If you don't see that, your car might not be equipped with a cabin filter. Most S6 models had them in my experience though.)

      So this would make perfect sense as to why they aren't commonly replaced. I am gathering parts for the blower motor and heater core job (yay!) so this might be an all in one service I take on next summer at some point. Also, thank you for the heater core video and others! It really helps to give me some more confidence in doing somewhat technical jobs. Definitely a new subscriber.@@SCARSORGofficial

      @@milehightiedyes2957 Well, I can post an update on the replacement process after assisting on another one about a week ago. This time I was working with a guru who has done dozens of them. I kid you not, it was just over 2.5 hours start to finish. I did learn a couple of tricks that would have taken hours off my initial (first time) doing it. I need to do my red car and will likely shoot another video of that process to see how it goes after having a bit more experience. First time is always the toughest. :-)

      This had crossed my mind but I feared breaking it as I wasn't sure how brittle the plastic would be at this point.

    I did not remove the glovebox.
    I just removed the side panels on the side panels and got the connectors off with a small pick.
    Of course my HVAC box crumbled to pieces, so now i need a new complete HVAC box for my new heater core...

      Oh man, I feel your pain. I was extremely cautious when prying on the edges of my heater box. You could just tell that one wrong look could send it packing.
