  • In this video we check out the difference between the Bach Strad 180ML with standard or reverse lead pipe designs. Players will have their own feelings on this but we discuss and demonstrate our thoughts with top UK pro player Georgina Jackson.

I love these Georgina Bach Comparisons.
I play a Bach 37 serial# 50344. My horn is Gold plated with a tunable bell. And Bob Reeves valve alignment One bell is a lightweight 37 and other is the original 37 heavier bell. When I tune at the bell the the regular tuning slide is all the way in, so it is open like the reverse lead pipes. There are so many combinations to use in different playing situations. I wish Bach would make a horn like the one I have played got 50 years. Keep the videos coming.

I finally had the chance of trying out both a standard and reversed lead pipe model 43s at the same time.
I could definitely feel the resistance in the standard compared to the reversed, and I definitely felt like I had less trouble getting around on the reversed compared to the standard. Other than that, they're both divine trumpets that have definitely earned their Mark in the world of professional trumpets

I've been playing a reverse leadpipe 43 model for 20+ years. I primarily play big band lead trumpet, bit it has a nice bright sound for solo classical pieces too. I like the responsiveness and free blowing feel that it has.

The model 37 with reversed lead pipe has been my trumpet of choice since the late 80’s and never plan to go back to a standard lead pipe. I also like that the horn us fairly light for a professional model which makes a difference when you have long sets or sessions.

Yeah for me personally I definitely feel like I can do more with a reverse lead pipe compared to the standard

Silver plated vs lacquered might have an effect on the sound also.

I prefer the sound of the reverse lead pipe.

Nice video. It looks to me like there is another variable at play here, namely the lacquer on the standard leadpipe model vs silver plate on the reverse. I realize that there are many, many opinions about whether this makes a difference but to be a fair test, adding another variable complicates things a bit.
