I play the Chicago. I tested 30 different trumpets and the Xeno Chicago was the best. For me it's the perfect trumpet. I love it.

That CHS model made you sound like Bud Herseth. If I could sound 1% like Bud, I'd cut off my arm. What a gift - Bob has really tapped into something special with that design.

It's always challenging for me to break through the marketing wank to get a better idea how each horn feels and sounds. From the outside, the NY model looks like a NY Bach - does it sound and play like one? How about the Chicago model - is that meant to sound like a Chicago Benge or one of the larger Schilkes?

Hi, thanks for your comment and questions. I suspect Yamaha would say that they were designed to sound like new Yamaha's, i.e. not just that they reference something else. After all, it is possible that someone can come up with a design that is new, otherwise we're all just playing the same old things in different clothing. However, we understand what you're saying but it's quite a subjective thing depending on player/mouthpiece/tone perception - SO, we'd throw it out to the public and ask anyone who has played these to perhaps offer their comments and we might see a general consensus..

Somebody on one of the forums said that the NY is like the best Bach you've ever played... the CH doesn't seem to be quite as highly regarded for some reason. I haven't played either...

Both instruments seem to work best in symphony orchestra, I mean they are made to scream or cut through some mediocre brassband or use it in a big band for lead. Unless you use a shallow mouthpiece perhaps ???

The CHICAGO has a more fuller mellow tone to it
