    Before my father passed he had several guns out and wanted me to pick one. His .45-75 guide gun was my choice. Dad had a smile knowing that heavy lead would continue to fly out of that old gun. Miss Dad and really enjoyed this video. Thanks Hickok 45 for all you do...

I think it was the extractor, at the 10/22 price point the extractors can have poor finishing and not grab the rounds right resulting in stovepipes. I put in a Volquartzen one and never had a jam since. Ruger is a good company overall but that was my experience. A 405 grain bullet and he shoots it like it's no big deal ! You the man ! When I shot the .444 Marlin lever action it was like a 12 guage with 3 inch magnum that's what it was like , also at one time the weatherby .460 magnum was the world's most powerful rifle and that was pushing a .500 grain bullet , yeah that 45/70 will get the job done !

    • @lc02
      @lc02 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@joelerk6298 it is when you hunting in the bush and you rub up on a moose or a bear and it's charging, that's literally what those revolvers like the .500 s&w magnum and the .460 magnum is for

    • @lc02
      @lc02 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Rock Storm that's why it is a Big game round and not a home defense and small game round, for most people who hunt it's better to use a bigger gun because the bullet can bust through leaves and sticks and also the 45-70 can take down just about if not every animal in North America

    • @lc02
      @lc02 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Rock Storm omg if you are walking through the woods and you run up on a bear or a moose or a wild boar you might not have enough time to ease up your rifle so you have a short barreled revolver and then you can shoot it with that instead, it's for safety not for hunting

When at the range I always go by the 100-200 yard rifle shed and fire off a few rounds just to see the reaction from the guys out there with their 223s as dust rains down from the rafters and the looks on their faces when the empty as big as a thumb hits the concrete next to me.

    I have this exact gun; even has the ported barrel like yours, which they later dis-continued. I bought it new in 2000. I really enjoy shooting it, mostly with my handloads consisting of cast and jacketed bullets . I installed a Skinner express aperture sight. I'm glad to see that Ruger has resurrected this GG, and I can easily justify acquiring one.

    I hunted with a 45-70 in my youth and nothing walks away from a 45-70. Now I own a Henry golden 45-70 which is much more accurate than my old 45-70. The extra weight of the Henry with octagon barrel helps with recoil even without a pad. In heavy brush a 45-70 hardly deflects at all. Hence the name brush gun.

    The vintage Winchester red box silver tip 30/30's that have actual silver on the tips are some of the 30/30 rounds I have used. Even with lead tipped rounds I was able to shoot through 1/2 steel at 40 yards. With the scope I took one shot at a can around 150 yards away with a silver tip and the round went straight the top of the can and the silver tip went out of the top on the other side of the can. So one shot put three holes. It was my first shot of the at sugar loaf mountain Canton area at the base of Four Peaks Arizona.
