    I just bought this same exact gun! Believe it or not, Walmart had them on clearance last week for only $299! I call all over TN, ended up finding one in the Mt. Juliet store. Flew over there as fast as I could and picked it up. The guy in sporting goods could not believe the price when he rang it up. Deal of a lifetime. Awesome gun!

      It wont be the exact same gun. Your rifle will be a "remlin", post Remington buyout, and post quality drop. His rifle would likely be an original Marlin

      Some of the guides in the Pacific Northwest have a high fat diet too so this round ensures the shot penetrates. Resulting in a humane dispatch.

    Love the Marlin carbines. My whole family has them, all in .35 Remington, and have used them dating back to the late 1940's and they prove reliable when hunting in the harsh winters in Minnesota. The one problem that we've encountered is that the Hornady Lever-Revolution ammo doesn't feed properly when using it. The plastic tip causes it to get jammed.

  • @Peaceful_Gojira
    @Peaceful_Gojira 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Now I can safely say I know where all that 30-30, .35 and .45-70 ammo went during the national ammo shortage.
    Have a 20 in. Marlin 336 (uses either .30-30 Win or .35 Remington).
    I got out to shoot it last December for my birthday. Hadn't been shot in over 30 years, as it was my Grandpa's when he went deer hunting in NY (he bought it used).
    When I finally got to shoot it, it was like nothing else I'd ever fired. Had no issues, only with sighting in using a scope.
    Yeah, ARs and Semi Auto Handguns and Shotguns are cool and all...but man, a lever gun is just something that is timeless.
    Hope everything's going well on the hickok ranch/homestead!
    All the more: be safe out there, folks!

    I bought a "standard" version of the 1895 some years ago. I was encouraged by what proved to be erroneous reports that the micro-groove barrels would indeed shoot cast bullets well. A year or two later Marlin offered an exchange program that for a fee would replace the wretched micro-groove barrel with one with Ballard style rifling. The results were outstanding, and I have been able to retire my '86 and use the less valuable '95 for field work. I won't go into the details of the '86 except to say that it is a light weight version that had every option available except the takedown feature. The Ballard rifling on the new barrel took all the same loads the '86 did, and shot them well. The nice thing about the Marlin is the modern steels that allow me to shoot loads of over 2,000 fps with out worry about damage to anything but my shoulder. My Marlin especially liked the 330 grain Gould Express Hollow point and shot a stiff load of H4198 with no leading, using a 16-1 alloy. This is just an excellent hunting rifle, well balanced accurate and fast to operate. I prefer the 22" barrel rather than the 18" one, it mounts steadier, and seems to just hang on target when the gun is aimed. I also mounted a Redfield micrometer receiver sight and found an old Redfield Patridge Sourdough front sight. I can't tell you how pleased I am with this rifle, it has done everything I've asked of it with style and grace. I did remove the front sling swivel and went to a barrel mounted band/sling swivel to insure that recoil would not ram the swivel stud into my hand, this has worked out well. Too bad the Freedom Group got rid of all the old farts who knew how to make the old tooling work, they're going to have a hard time getting the quality up to the old standards.

    • @geneaikenii1092
      @geneaikenii1092 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice attention to detail, bra. Yes, I noticed his flinch where that he just hadn't chambered the round, and this was a surprise to me. I re-played it several times to be sure. I have never noticed him flinch with handguns or other rifles and shotguns before. There have been plenty of times for various reasons that a pistol did not go off as expected and NEVER have I witnessed this type of gun shyness before. I have watched a lot of his videos and love this guy and his son. Maybe it was just this rifle or maybe he was distracted or having an off day.....who knows. Gotta love 'em anyway. He can have a pass on it as far as I'm concerned-- it can happen to the best of us.

However it would be kinda cool to get out my old single stage and start loading a few heavy 45-70 rounds and start getting back in the game. Who knows, maybe I'll just go for broke and get one of those Italian repops like you have and really have some fun! Decisions...decisions. Thanks Guys!

    That pointed nose on the Hornady really does make a difference.
    My 30-30 zeroed at 100 yards with federal flat nose bullets, hit 8 inches low at 200 yards.
    When I switched to the Hornady ammo, it hit 1 inch high at 100 yards, and it was dead center at 200 yards! It just cuts the air a lot better.

    I would have never thought the bullet would stay straight after going through that 2L!! Guess that's what a heavy round gives you!

    Hickok, I run a 300 gr Nosler "Combined Technology" ballistic round at 2350 fps out of my guide gun. The thing is nasty brutal and precise. I put a 1-4x Nikon Monarch African on top of it, and it is just dreamy to shoot.
    They are a RN boolit, so you have to only keep one in the hole with one in the mag, but heck, if you need more than 2 shots with them, you deserve to be dinner.

    Nothing better-looking than cast lead in well-used cases. If you cast and reload, you'll understand.

    I have the .45-70 guide gun and I love using it for wild hog hunting. No scope, just old school iron sights with the 325gr LeverEvolution. It hits true and hard, and even with a Texas wild hogs, I've never had to chase one down. It puts them down with authority.

    The Leverevolution ammo really wakes up my .35 Rem, I don't hand load so not an issue with case length. Thanks for another great vid

    I'm 17 years old and i'm from Brazil, i would love to have so many guns in my future, but my country doesn't have any Guns Shop, and i am poor. One of my Goals and wishes is to have Beautiful Guns into my houses so i can practice them all day, but its really hard in Brazil

    I love the sights on those guide guns. I had a stainless/walnut magnaported barrel version. I think it was an 18" barrel 45-70...lol
