I saw this film in the theater. I remember when this scene happened, after Bing Bong said his final words, I heard a kid crying in the audience. I'll never forget that.
Bing bong's sacrifice is a beautiful metaphor. In order to be happy one must leave childish things behind however you should never ever forget your dreams.
@@redclayscholar620 so your saying since I'm an adult I can't enjoy things like building Legos cause that's a childish thing and I need to be ab adult and take responsibility???
Saw this in the theatre when it first came out, and at the time i was a new-ish dad, so when i tell you that this scene was SOUL CRUSHING I'm not even close to exaggerating
We need to understand that bing bong is an imaginary friend that needs to be forgotten so that the girl grows up. This is also why the car is destroyed because its oblivion is a path of no return
It’s also a very on the nose symbol: the imaginary sacrifices itself so happiness can succeed. It’s the saddest part of growing up, double when personified.
@@anthonybrito1935 that was a big part of the plot when they started to write this movie. Bing bong was originally intended to be the villain. He didn't want Riley to grow up because that would mean he would be forgotten, therefore he would disappear and didn't want that. Good thing the plot was rewritten.
I think what makes this scene emotional is that the imaginary friend that brought most of happiness, asked happiness to “take her to the moon for me” and happiness said she’ll try. She’ll try to keep us happy
Things that are forgotten can be remembered. Imagine in Inside Out 3. Riley’s sitting in the rocket on her way to the moon…and she starts humming Bong Bong’s song…
The copilot asks, "What's that song from?" She looks a little confused and says, "I... don't remember." Cut to the smashed wagon in her mind, set up as a memorial.
This scene absolutely WRECKED me the first time I saw it and still gets me to this day... glad I'm not the only one... although I was much worse off than most of these people. Love Bing Bong and the voice actor Richard Kind who actually cried delivering the last line. Wonderful.
To be honest I think one of the reasons why a lot of us cries when bing bong parishes is because I want point in time we did have an imaginary friend that we did end up forgetting or losing. But that's just me.
Sometimes you have to leave childhood memories behind and forgotten in order to lighten your load and move forward through difficult times, all to make new memories as an adolescent.
This hurts so much. Early in Riley’s life, Bing Bong was the one who always made her happy. Now, that Joy and him are stuck being forgotten together, he sacrifices himself so that Riley can still be happy… even if it’s without him.
KSO reaction is one of the most powerful , along with Mary Cherry's. Both understood that part where you have to end your childhood based on a traumatic experience and how it punches into your real world.
Sad that the fact he was fading and he knew it would be less weight then just jumped off at the last moment. I always wondered was there not a memory stored somewhere that could have brought him back??
I think the reason this resonates with so many of us is because we all remember having imaginary friends, but like Bing Bong, we have forgotten them. We mourn the loss of friends we no longer remember.
Unfortunately not at all, He’s never coming back because well he’s not dead but forgotten and theres no way to bring him back so let’s cherish the memories we got to see him in this movie!
Bing Bong represents the ultimate metaphor. The idea that we at some point lose memories of our childhood. This movie hits different when you have kids, you watch them playing and enjoying fictional characters that make them happy every single second to then understand you were like that, you had your toys. It was you, only you and your imagination. Keep alive your inner child guys, we always look for happiness but sometimes we forget that it happens in very simple ways. Love to all.
i will never forget seeing this in theaters. i was fucking HYSTERICAL, holding in my tears, i turned to look at my mom to see if she’s just as emotional, my mom is BRIGHT RED holding in her tears, can barely breathe. we just bursted into tears/laughter at how emotional we were😭😭i will never forget it
i saw this film with my family when i wqs about 16. I never would’ve thought in a million years that this movie would hit me as hard as it did that evening

This is the perfect depiction of the loss of the joy of childhood and it's exactly why is see so many adults brought to tears bc they realize that
