I used to get paid for it so I ran to the alarms and toward the gun fire, now I am retired with no wacker tendencies ever. As far as scaring the woman, I take the 5th.
A lot of people just want to feel important or needed. Something in their life is missing and associating themselves with something (police, fire, military, etc) helps make them feel better while doing it.
Pcsed multiple times and on the last PCS I gave the wife in her seperate vehicle a baofeng programmed to frs ( Go ahead line up the firing squad, it’s not that deep) she loved having an open line of communication between vehicles that wasn’t a 12 hour long phone call. If she wanted to talk she could just hit the ptt button if she wanted to call and talk to her mom at the same time, no problem. She wants to pull over and let the dogs out hit the radio. With traveling in separate vehicles across the US it was invaluable and she loved the capability. So now we have moved to a baofeng and a mag mount chilling in her car. As for a full on mobile rig she is more hesitant still.
This is actually a good topic for for a show, because it would come in handy for avoiding antifa or blm mayhem or something like that. The Key phrase you mentioned was “people wanna get involved and all that”. I used to do the scanner thing a lot in the 80’s and 90’s and having to go to radio shack and getting “crystals” for different frequencies. It was about keeping informed and of “where not to go”. Especially growing up in the LA harbor area. For instance, the riots in in the 90’s. Also, the entertainment aspect because in the area I grew up in they filmed a lot of shows and movies; therefore, we would know where that was happening. I probably would like to do that these days but all you would hear is reports of tweakers stealing lawn mowers so i really don’t give a crap.
Not allowed to put a radio in the wife's vehicle...I'm a member of that club.
Haha, let me know if you find a way out! ~Ape
You guys are great 👍 👍
Thanks Vern, you are greaterer...
To add to my ridiculously long post. It was cool listening to the pd helicopter communicating with cars which was every night.
Yeah, its awesome when you get stuff like that.

Agreed, folks just need to be mindful that there are ways they can contribute that is helpful to everyone.
My wife always asks what's going on but doesn't want me having to the scanner on all the time. Those fakebook groups don't have all the details
Mine is the same way
Note to self: Buy a new flashlight!
LOL, get after it son!
