On the topic of learning the questions and answers to the test, I've had several people say that they should just study (not for the test mind you, just radio in general, because otherwise you're just studying on how to take a test) and then try to pass. the best answer I can think to come up with is "This is AMATEUR radio, why are we trying to force people to become experts before they can even take the test"
I can tell you first hand, passing the test doesn't mean you are an expert at all... it just means you studied enough to pass the test.
A timestamp and link to where it came from would make this slightly better.
The link is on the lower part of the screen 👍
Ape has many knowledges. Like when to stay quiet. 🤪
Right
*** Enough with Vertical video shorts that are annoying !!! *** Love seeing only half of what you showing NOT! Please use your phones HORIZONTAL mode in future ! I just love seeing only a slice of a something than the whole thing NOT! Also blurred sidebars NOT!
Hol' up...Chuck just dropped "my buddy Les with this band did a song about a beaver" and the chat let that go??? Seriously??? LOL. Were you pulling our leg Chuck?
Nope, Chuck and Les are boys 😮
Nice show. TO put his HT's on display in background. I have made a fer 4:1 UNUN's. The FT 240-43 with #14 mag wire at 10 wraps and works super . easy 400 watt FT8 on 10/12 meters and no ATU ! I do a fold back and twist at end on 25 FT and tunes under 1.5 SWR .Once I got 1.1 SWR on 28.074 MHZ. Normally it like 1.3 or 1.4 SWR . Adjust a tad and swap bands 10/11/12 . works out about 5/8 wave with 4:1 UNUN . same 4/8/16 radials . I did tune 80 meters with 25FT vertical with Icom 7300 in E-TUNE mode 50 watts . Just did not make many FT8 contacts with 25FT . Need like 51FT to work good. I did do a 43 FT vertical with 4:1 UNUN and tuned 1.7 at 20 meters FT8 and worked like gangbusters. About 5/8 wave at 20 meters. It is not the 5/8 over 1/2 wave thing that you would think. The 4:1 UNUN has lower loss than a 49:1 UNUN. Leads to more antenna gain. And 4:1 UNUN runs cooler under power to a 49:1 UNUN. I think that plumpe green core can do 500 watts with #14 mag wire . The FT 240-43 does and runs cool . Wind the same as 49:1 and gets hot somewhat quick. . The type 61 does work better on 10 and 6 meters . I tested that . The 43 ferrite works better 40/80 meters. The RED type 2 .T200-2 core workers fine 4:1 on 10 turn wrap . I did 8 turn as well. I tune better on 10 turn . 100 watt FT8 hours on T200-2 red core only got warm. Like 95F .That about all i did on 4:1 UNUN testing. Only had #14 mag wire and a few cores. If you up a size on mag wire to #14 with that green core would be a great QRO test. 73
#teamreplay Great show guys.
Thank you 🙏
POTA is a GREAT thing. I just started doing POTA a few weeks ago, and I think every activation is a learning experience. What to bring. What NOT to bring. Earlier this week I activated a new area, a national wildlife refuge. I found out it’s quite different from the state parks in my area. I also attended a Skywarn class that day. My local club does a Skywarn Net and being net control is NOT always easy.
POTA and Skywarn are great programs 👍
You’re buddies with Les claypool. That’s awesome chuck
Chuck is worldwide
Where can I find a carbon fiber mast for $30-ish?
The new CaHR CF Mast is sexy. Buy yours today!
Americans avoid the metric system because they have a foot fetish
HAMMY NEW YEAR 🎊🎉
What you need is a magic smoke injector ;)
I found a 20’ carbon pole that is 4.8’ tall and weighs 2.75lbs. I’m considering. Even using it as a walking stick
Sounds like you are ready to go!
@ haven’t purchased it yet because I also found a 15’ carbon fiber pool pole that’s 1.75lbs and collapse down to 3.5’ DECISIONS.
Howdy!!
Howdy DB
😂have not keyed the Mike yet and I am swamped. Radio, antenna tuner, balun, unon, antenna, chokes, rg58,59,213, so on. I am not bright enough for this. Do not want to waist my money. Rather spend for the best up front. I am depressed
We've all been there as we are all new at first.
Lost me. How can you put the tuner at the feed point? I can not climb the tower? I have hardly gotten started and I am ready to quit.
Some people do that with remote tuners that can be controlled from inside the ham shack
No trees just buildings no roof access it sucks living in hells kitchen NYC 16 floor building I'm on the 7th on the inner courtyard of the building with 20 feet away bway Play the wizard LED Hell PS no antenna on roof kc2ayg
That is a predicament
It's ok to buy radios from NA to Europe and vice versa with a modification you can expand the Frequencies however the Japanese Domestic sets are so limited and cannot even be changed wirh software/hardware mods sadly. Additionally as already mentioned there are specific low powered Sets for Japan only.

Think I’ll stick one in my Kenworth
Kenworth's are the best

Waterproof rugged manpack with 12Ah solar rechargeable battery all mode all band
Based on facts and not assumptions, the world doesn't revolve around you...shocking...I know
The new FTX-1F sounds good. Wonder what the price is? Im saving for a portable radio, looking hard at FT-891, out of stock everywhere. Any suggestions? Id rather have a 50 W FT-710 half its size.
They have been tight lipped about the price
@@CoffeeandHamRadiosi think ill wait and see before i buy a FT891
First
Some context would be great
Yeah I think it's to do eith HAM radio setups nowadays? I have absolutely no real idea obviously.
well come on man!
"Invention" vs "Discovery". The physics is discovery, invention is turning the physics into hardware, i.e., engineering.
That's what I told them
I use a metal beach umbrella stand (aka ground screw) with a dx commander expedition pole, with speaker wire and electrical tape. Works beautifully for portable operation. Sometimes I’ll operate on a pier and use NiteIze gear ties to attach it to a the side of the dock as well. Still working on solutions where I have no vertical poles to attach to and no ground to screw into, like a flat roof, but I will probably get a tripod for the SS25 I have on back order. 73 de KK4WPE
Mayn I missed this live. Great show
Thanks for watching 👍
So a Yaesu representative is on a utube channel in a weed conversation, I wonder how that’s going ..🤷♂️
I guess I'm late. Where's Jeem?
Great show ! The UK got hit with a wind storm. Many hams on battery ! looks like south Wales was hardest hit from BBC world news. DX commander did a live stream during the wind. May reports of 100 MPH winds . We got some wind in Boston NY but nothing over 30 MPH . The warring said 55 MPH . never came. But the snow did in past 2 storms. 3 ft in a day. 1 1/2 ft in a outher day. It's deep in snow hear ! Thunder snow was fun. I have been shocked from wire antennas' just from heavy snow fall. I have a RG 8X feed line that is the antenna . I made a few for others. T2LT . Works great . Just count cost of coax and tape. All you need is a G90 and a clip lead and just some metal and get on the air ! Shopping cart at walmart works ! 73
That thumbnail is absolute gold 😂😂😂
I’m glad someone appreciates it, it was super hard to make
UGH! I never seem to catch this live. I have you on my calendar now; so, I hope to start watching live. I'm no expert on the Italian language, but I wanted to know how to pronounce "Guglielmo" sometime last year. An Italian voice pronounced it, goo-gli-ELL-moh. The long "ELLLL" sound surprised me. HAHA! BTW, the "No-Code Technician" class was introduced in 1991. I was stationed on a Coast Guard ship at the time and probably didn't hear about it. But I knew that Morse Code would change when the Coast Guard retired its Morse Code mission in 1995. I got licensed as a Technician after the announcement and figured it would be dropped from Amateur Radio at some point. I'm kind of surprised that it took 11 years to drop the requirement, but a lot of hams are sticklers... so, maybe I'm NOT surprised. 🤣 Oddly enough, as you suggested, Morse Code may be even more popular now that it's optional, perhaps even fun... just not to ME. 😛 Code never interested me. I upgraded to General as soon as the Code requirement was dropped in 2007. 73! -Scott
Thanks for watching Scott 👍

Right
7:50 I live on green Mountain, NC. 70CM is almost useless, 2M works much better
2m is more widely used here as well 👍
Come on are you guys for real, talk tech yes. Dont bring the Boy Scouts are not Boy Scouts anymore sh+t to this topic
😮
The inconsistencies between the 3185 (6 character name field) and the 3165 (8 character name field) and the missed opportunity to have ssb included make these a hard sell. You could have made them great, but instead, just uh. Sorry, pass.
Rodney, if they had 2m ssb we all know you would have a different reason to pass…
@CoffeeandHamRadios nope, we have a very active 2m ssb vertical net here in DFW. The only options are FT-991A OR IC-9700. No lower cost options.
DigiRig Lite is the bomb!
Yep
What episode is this from? Do not seem to remember seeing this one.
The one called “Ask Kruk, was streamed this last Thursday”
I have the FTDX10 and love it. The only reason I would go to a 101 would be for better ergonomics and a second receiver. I have had mine for exactly 1 year and love it.
They are pretty sweet 👍
#TeamReplay as the Lions were playing and couldn't miss it.
🤨
Nice conversation, and thank`s to whoever gifted me a month membership on the last show. Appreciate it.
Thanks for watching Bjorn 👍
The guy in the top left constantly interrupting the guest was frustrating.
We will make sure he is punished
Count how many times he says “and on there”
I can’t count that high
Gives you a chance to practice counting and play a drinking game. See...now fun and educational! 😊
All the shack in the boxes do 2m ssb. Example, Chuck's old 991
John made it to Sea Pac, I got lucky and saw him in the lobby for a few minutes. Glad to hear you are planning on coming up here Chuck.
I wanna go!
Cross band and full duplex are great features, John hit the nail on the head.
