LoL. You can tell if you have common mode current if you take a leak on the antenna feed point and you don't feel anything because all of your common mode current is leaking down the outside of the coax. My gosh. You guys believe anything if it isn't true.
I was actually planning to do this test in my next video 👀
Please note. I was referring to taking a "grid leak" on the antenna feed point.
Cool gadgets. I'll have to checkout his site. :)
He does have some cool stuff
Nice Gadgets. A must have for them big tube amps . I had a odd job from a wile back with a RM italy 24V amp . Customer wanted to key from IC 705 . I made a isolator/buffer from a opto coulper . works great. To use the ready made SS one or relay one 12V is needed. That easy but Customer uses internal battery on IC705 and 24v LiFePO4 . I could make it work with 7812 12V reg . easy . If I would have known Ham gadgets at the time I would have got kit form and IC 705 cables and just add 12V reg inside case. Would have been easier for me. I had to buy everything including the cables and build it. I am saving his link incase i need to do amp work again. This show was about 1 year to late for my project. But I see more on the way some day. 73
I like these little pre built boxes

It's eight dits for a mistake (five dits is the number 5). Want to learn CW...plunk down 30 bucks and join LICW. They have 3,000 learners (members) and well over 100 different classes. Their method and tools are sound and their philosophy will explain everything. As Arby's says: they have the beef.
They do have a pretty positive rep 👍
Could i foia request the systems they use? 😂
If I could have a voice transplant I’d choose Chuck’s!
Who wouldn’t?
Good show, boys. Replay is my friend.
Thanks 45!
yep, it was a rare weekend I was able to sleep in, and well, yall aint pretty! I too also have been diagnosed with a radio compulsive buying disorder. I think its contagious!
Howdy Chris
great stream ! That QT 80 is 10/11/12/15 meters. The jumper inside is for 15 meters . you hold 2 buttons and turn on. Their is auto out on mic jack. That outher mic pin is for that programmable button on the mic. it has SWR protect/voltage protect that can set in menu and/or programming software . Will do digital buy making a cable from mic jack to sound card or Digi rig. Just TX audio level had to set with no ALC meter . But will work FT8. I have the QT 60 and I got it doing digital with mic jack and ext sp. The QT 80 is also a Anytone AT 6666 PRO radio . Many videos on it now. 73
That sounds about right
Great stream guys, sorry I missed it! As far as the Kenwood mobile the top bar (GPS etc) WAS color, and the case was 3D printed so I assume there will be a lot of changes in looks to it when they actually produce it, yes USBC and SDcard slot on head and base, I thought originally that mic was head or base but I'm leaning to just base at this point but Kenwood may change that. Icom screen can display multiple things, band change, waterfall, filter, etc. The head is the size of about 3-4 icom 705s, the base reminded me of my first IBM 286 case, it is BIG! But once connected it should be out of view in the shack. Beautiful radio and if I had $6k it would be amazing and remove some clutter from the desktop. Yaesu, DID have USBC and the representative confirmed that AND it is full duplex he verbally said U/U, U/V, V/V, V/U. I'm guessing 3.5-4" thick counting the knob without the battery. I think the ATAS120 will be external power only, just a guess. I explain on my video last week I see 5 configurations on their brochure from Japan: Ex batt, fan/tuner, ext batt/tuner, tuner, fan.. but the image of the ext batt/tuner looks like the fan/tuner pic so maybe 4 configs. On the other side that port has an image of an sdcard with a 'play' button for MicroSDcard slot. I'll make a video or live of the Akihabara, electric city, soon in Tokyo and show prices of radios, I don't think it's as good a deal as people think cuz their prices are higher. Hope this all helps a little.Check my last week's live for my review of each radio.
Heck of a post Paul, thank you for stopping by 👍

Can you conclude the Bible into a sentence? They are a race and species of Children who are perpetually and who play make-believe and pretend perpetually, making them perpetually “Asleep”. It is not a secret if I know about it! It's called deciphering. It's a language of its own of patterns. Right now, you have Accessible, Accumulative, Stored, Secondhand, Information and We are all copies of copies of copies...To copy is to compliment. You must be taught Accessible, Accumulative, Stored, Secondhand, Information you are not born with this information. Accessible, Accumulative, Stored - without this, the next generation of Children become idiots and morons, back to Adam & Eve you shall be. Sin only exists with knowledge - an applied difference in knowledge. You're applying Accessible, Accumulative, Stored, Secondhand, Information - Why because you're naturally born by design with Zero information! The Children of the earth do not know from birth, and do not know what they do! And if you are indeed these Children, are you also going to make "mistakes", a generator of mistakes naturally, because "not knowing" comes first - does it not? Therefore, we can conclude as a race and species of Children "That we are not knowing, that we don't know, that we are not knowing" and we will make "mistakes" and also "Sin" naturally! God already knows that we are not because God designed us that way. Let us show the way of Jesus, shall we? : For this, I reference Revelation 2:17 KJV He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna and will give him a white stone and in the stone a new name is written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it. -> The Answer -> is Mistake On the left hand, I write the name upon the new white stone "Mistake". On the right hand, I write the name upon the patina white stone "Sin". I saith to you: Those without Sin or Mistake cast either stone! If you cannot cast either stone! You will bend at the knee, surrender to Jesus, and repent your sins! Your redeemer of redemption. 8 billion Children upon this earth, and NONE! Can cast either stone. A Biblical Scientific Fact my, my, my... Get behind me, Satan! because that is where the defeated go says, Jesus! How does one become God's answer, Simple Surrender & "Ask God. You are your question, and you are your answer. You are the race and species of Children that must become the key to the keyhole in God's kingdoms of Heaven. - Simple Surrender & "Ask God. God says “Checkmate” before you were even ever born and created, Why - Because you by Design as a race and species of Children perpetually, are naturally your very worst enemy. The very reason you need a babysitter or comforter, my little children, is that your "pretending & make-believe perpetually" is your very worst enemy.
KM9G, always moving, never in the same place twice, always hiding in the woods, he must be on America's Most Wanted!
on second thought, I might be thinking the Smokin' Ape on that one.
Could be both
live, from Coffee and HAM Radios, it's Saturday Night!!!
Haha
It’s not the words you say it’s the music you play - tone is oh so important
I looked at Schematics pretty good design, it has all I need for CW operation 40 mtr to 15 mtr adjustable side tone freq, 5 wts is enough for me. US$350 is good price. AG6JU
Yeah, he did a good job with this one 👍
US$350 is a good price? That’s like 3 times the prices of a QMX kit and double of an assembled QMX. Insane is what it is.
Here for another show!
Thanks Mike 👍
great show. My Elmar is chasing Wabbits !
Hey Robert, thanks for watching 👍
👋 How’s the road treating you
Not bad
CFT1 was a really fun build. I've built two QMX radios and I built the CFT1 in less than half the time. The fact this rig comes with a pre-wound toroid option is pretty incredible too. (In my opinion, the toroids are relatively simple to wind as they're very few turns). We're lucky to have someone like Jonathan innovating in the CW space here in the United States! P.S. the CW receive quality is top notch!
Yeah, he did a great job with this one 👍
Very good show ! Love that CW transceiver. Nice Superheterodyne . Not a SOC radio. That DenCo battery perfect for that . And I am not a CW ham and I am impressed with that. Love the KIT options. 73
He did a good job with this one , thanks for watching Robert 👍

"Do you game?" "I'm grown..." 🤣 I think propagation disadvantages affect regions. I've seen my own seemingly poor results, then later surprised to see that I placed very well among my peers (bad conditions for all of Roanoke Division?). I like that the awards are regional in VHF contests. I compete as a "Limited Rover," which is the lowest four VHF bands and with 100W/200W limitations, depending on the band. That way, I'm not competing with the QRO or 10-band stations. There are "FM Only" and "Three Band" (6/2/440) categories, too, though Rovers aren't eligible. I like the Mobile/Rover/Expedition categories in the VA QSO Party, too. Plus, the contest is suspended overnight on Saturday to encourage operators to rest. And AMEN to real-time scoring! There should be some time slop for Rovers who may operate someplace without 4G/5G connectivity. But, on the other hand, there are some who audio record their QSOs and then log them at their leisure long after the contest is over, all while declaring that they're "single operator," which defeats the time constraints of the contest. Good ideas and fun show, guys! -Scott
Hey Scott, thanks for watching 👍
Thanks guys for letting me enjoy Huntsville from my Lazyboy; this was awesome!
Why haven’t I jumped in my _DeLorean_ and gone back to when copper was a lot cheaper and bought a few hundred feet of *_”wahr”?_* Oh, yeah … _Digikey_ and _Mouser_ don’t stock *FLUX CAPACITORS* …😀 I used to work for an electrical contractor and _”THHN”_ was his favorite. The insulation was a lot more _”slippery”_ and easier to pull through a conduit. Also (at least back then) it was certified as _”plenum wire”_ due to its 105° temperature rating. As for the _”tinned copper”,_*skin effect* is *NOT* your friend (for *antenna* use). *CCA* _(copper clad aluminum)_ is better. For DC use, it’s just the opposite. *73 de AF6AS in **_“DM13”_** land*
Should have loaded up back in the day 🤨
I'm a cb radio guy and had a great time think you guys so much.

Good luck with the build!

haha
Wackers give scanner guys and HAM’s like me a bad name.
Lol
The rabbit ears that come with the rtl-sdr is a really good tool to experiment with in the same way. You're showing a pretty good demo of how the feed point impedance changes with both angle and feedpoint position. Centre fed dipoles aren't single band - try doing a sweep from 100Mhz - 500Mhz on the VNA, you'll see the dipole work on both 2m and 70cm. If you change it into a 1/3rd feedpoint you will see the 3rd harmonic disappear but the second harmonic will come down, but they will both be higher impedence (smaller loops on the VNA). Inverted V's have lower impedance, you'll see the loop grow around the centre when it's lower than 50ohm.
I'm glad you liked the demo!
Thanks for watching GDL 👍
This episode was brought to you by the new word, SWERS!😂👍
Swurs lol
Right
We still have guns. The UK can suck it. K5SFC
Please, please, please advise your viewers that they should not think that only half of the dipole radiates ! You are setting the clock back 100 years.
I never said "only half of the dipole radiates" I don't think we're setting any clocks back here, certainly not a century.
@@75ohmHAM You can put it to rest by learning a little about the physics of antennas. If one side of a dipole radiates less than the other it means the current is not symetrical, because of common mode current on the shield. Both sides of the antenna work. Please don't give hams a reason to think otherwise. k2xt
One side of a dipole does radiate less than the other, current between them is not symmetrical, but you missed by assuming it's CMC on the shield from a VNA.. is to blame. Both sides do "work" of course lol (and I never said they didn't) but they are not equal by any means. If the dipole leg electrically connected to an RF amplifier effects frequency, The other leg usually bonded or grounded to earth, changes it's impedance, like I demonstrated live, with a smith chart, How could you say the antenna is supposed to be symmetrical You couldn't. Honestly. I welcome your discord on the CaHR Toads Server, cheers 🍺
So, Ape, If the reflected power at the feedpoint (when there is a mismatch and you have those terrible swars) gets burned up as heat how to you account for the performance of a resonant dipole (say 50 ohms) fed with 600 ohm line? de Rick, K2XT
You do understand that 600 Ω doesn’t have the same loss as coax right? Ape
@@CoffeeandHamRadiosI don't always build dipoles, but when I do, it's a resonant dipole..
@@CoffeeandHamRadios So, power comes up the 600 ohm open wire feedline, hits the 50 ohm load, most of it gets reflected, so what happens to it? I know, but please don't leave the viewers wondering. And loss in the feedline doesn't really matter much at all.
When someone asks questions they already know the answers to, it can be referred to as "asking rhetorically" or "playing dumb." However, if the intention is to trap or embarrass someone, it can also be called "leading questions" or "Socratic questioning." In a more derogatory sense, it might be termed "baiting" or "being disingenuous"
Fee, I have read Maxwell’s book reflections. I’m assuming that you have read his article on conjugate matching and now you are attempting to appear clever or smart, how cute. We both know it’s re-reflected back toward the antenna. It’s really up to the operator to decided what amount of coax loss “isn’t much” or are you the authority over that as well? Ape
"The radiating vs the non radiating side of the dipole" ????????????????? Cringeville.
I apologize that you are having a time with my simple way to distinguish the 2 legs from each other, no need to discount my statement. I could have said active and passive radiator,
