Amazing video Dan , I have massive respect for Pompey as a football club and like you said in the video they do not deserve to be in league 1 considering how big of a football club they are . Their fans are simply incredible and some of the best in England . Loving the content atm !

Thanks for doing a video on us mate. Really good. It’s been a bumpy ride in recent years that’s for sure! I think it was Boris Johnson years ago that described us as a northern city, and a city that was full of “drug addiction and obesity”. You’re right that people here see it as a badge of honour not to be associated with those in the rest of the south!

Shoutout Jed Wallace stuck with the club through the shitshow, was by far our best player those first 2 years in league 2 might have ended up in the conference if not for him.
great video, thanks for it mate. Not gonna lie I have always a bit of jealousy with Sunderland. Since we both seemed to be stuck in the division for a while we developed a slight rivalry, same feeling I have with Plymouth. But still to give u credit, Sunderland supporters are some of the best fans in English football too.
I was at the EFL final at Wembley vs you lot. All of your fans I met were sound and it was rocking in there from both sides. You'd have never know it was for a lower league cup. Best of luck this season and PLAY UP POMPEY!

A few things you missed out of got a bit wrong , but a pretty good explanation . I've been a fan since 65 and most of that time was spent mid table in the second division ( Championship) . We did end up in Division four in the 80s after financial troubles and worked out way back , even to a season in the first division with Bally .
All my dreams came true when we got in the Premiership and won the cup , the ownership and collapse was ridiculous and I'm amazed we managed to salvage the club .Personally I'm happy to have a club to watch ,and the support has been great. It's now been long enough that some fans have never seen us in the higher divisions and it's for them especially we need to go up soon . We did it in the 80s and there's no reason we can't do it now . Interesting video best of luck for next year .

Hi Dave, my first game was Boxing day '63; nice to meet another oldie - me thinks that Div 4 period with Frank B was one of the most exciting teams we ever had.
Fifteen thousand at the old County ground Northampton , certainly turned things round after a decade of decline . Hope this year will be as good .
Another reason Dan, that there is a touch of the North about Portsmouth, is that, being a Naval city, many sailors from the North and Midlands settled in Pompey when they left the services and supported the team. Many years ago, when Pompey were playing at home, the terraces were a sea of white hats and many Northern accents could be heard. No doubt they initially came just to watch a game of football or to see their own team play the blues but eventually they got "sucked in" to supporting the Pompey team.
ps. Matelots, as we call them, don't wear their uniform in town any more so no hats at Fratton Park.

im a Pompey boy born and bred and want to thankyou for a good video highlighting the city and club, we have had our ups and downs like many other clubs, but after some good pre-season signings this season coming is a great chance to get out of league one.cheers

Being from Portsmouth I can tell you now, we do not think we are like a northern city, we are very much a southern city and the best 1! And as for poverty that’s a load of waffle, no more then any other city,

@@sr4ontour probably mixed it up with the league trophy, fun fact it's the only domestic trophy pompey have never won, we've won all 4 divisions, league trophy and fa cup

Hummm more that one misleading background fact (facts can be true but mislead at same time), and more than one wrong. You got that working class part right but repeat the fake facts regarding financing etc. I was there when Milan was told on the train back from Sheffield that if he wanted to make Pompey work he should get get 'arry in. and when he did, 'arry made loads of good deals buying players cheap and HUGE profits when selling them on to Euro giants. It was nothing like Leeds! Pompey didn't buy players they could not afford. As for Gaydamac, the family had funds frozen in Israel and used to club to finance their court cases etc. We did not lose 2-0 to Chelsea in FA cup final....I gave up at that point. (Edit: I suggest you stick to Bunderland, and leave Pompey be)

It's not depressing it's funny but I remember when we were going bankrupt and nearly lost the club and it was horrible any other club I would feel sorry for them but they are skates and deserve to be there
