One if the most remarkable stories in the history of football.
I was at a wedding at Gretna the first day of the season of that run to the SPL in 2004 and read about the clubs rise to the league and fell in love with the club from there on.
Should make a film of it.
I drove through Gretna the day before the cup final. It was amazing. Every building had "Good Luck Gretna" flags and banners hanging from them, most of which were home made.
Brilliant video, really loved it :)
Thank you, Robbie!
great video lad...a remarkable but also tragic story about a team that had so much potential
Great video that, well done bud 👏
Always liked Gretna, we (dundee united) played you at Raydale in 05 think was 3rd round and the game finished 4 3. A year later you guys had made the final only to lose on penalties. Shame what happened in the end with yourselves an brookes. Surely any fan of a lower/non league club would give anything for the run you guys had though. All the best ❤
I don't think many fans would want someone to come in, take over their club, build up massive debts and cause their club to be liquidated. No football fan could want that.
Great Video ⚽️💙
Thanks!
Worth saying, when Gretna got promoted to the Premier league they had already been falling apart for months. They let several of their best players go that January to cut the wage bill. Their results from then on were terrible but Davie Irons did brilliantly to hold them together and scrape enough points to go up. They didn't score in their last four games before that Ross County match but kept three clean sheets.
Mileson had stopped funding Gretna and saddled them with millions in debt.
They probably shouldn't have been admitted to the premier league without assurances that they could see out the season - assurances they would not have been able to give.
