  • This is a How-to video on replacing the rear Magnetic Ride Control Shocks on a Cadillac XTS Platinum. The basic steps will work for non-Platinum XTS as well. Tools required at a flat blade screwdriver or Interior trim tool, Metric Sockets, and Torx Bit. Also, a floor jack and jack stands. The video was shot on a hoist but the process could be duplicated with a floor jack and jack stands.

    Hello J,
    I have a 2013 XTS Premium and it has the electric (Magnetic) shocks. I had the front replaced under warranty years ago to fix a knocking noise. My rears are leaking at 187K miles and I'm going to follow your video to change the shocks. The dealer diagnosed the shocks as needed to be replaced and wants $1600.00. I'm going to do it within the next three weeks. I've got the 19in rims. I will post my results once done.

    Nice video. Would you get mag shocks on this car if you could have a choice? I understand how they can make your ride firmer for track use but do you think they make the ride more comfortable on bumpy Michigan roads? Going to order a C8 convertible soon and I don't think I want the Mag. ride for $1900 since the car will be a GT cruiser for me. Will I be missing out on anything if I don't get Mag ride in your opinion?

    • @jsspeedshop4954
      @jsspeedshop4954  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This car rides awesome considering it has 20inch wheels with low profile tires. I attribute it to the Mag Ride Control. You may like it on the Vette if it allows you to soften the ride to make these Michigan Roads bearable. I have a 2012 Camaro SS and it does not Mag and I kind of wish I did. I like to drive it to work in the summer and I wish I could adjust the Suspension to soften the ride on my commute. I guess it comes down to how much your going to drive it.

  • @HowardLuken
    @HowardLuken 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That was the airbag dropping when you remove those two bolts at the top. Apparently you either need a special unit that electronically releases the airbag or there's a tiny line that goes in up behind the airbag that you loosen slightly and it'll allow the air to drain out. Typical GM cadillac. I'm having them worked on right now because nobody would do it and Cadillac wanted to rip me off for thousands. Now the guy at the shop calls me and tells me he doesn't know how to do it basically and here they are videos online and I told him. I've had that same side rear shock taking off once before by another fly by night shop and they did the same thing failed to support the airbag or deflate it and I think they screwed up the entire system. Now I got a guy at another shop wants to charge me $350 bucks per wheel and he only wants to do the struts in the front to begin with. Got the parts online but it still costing me an arm and a leg. I hate this Cadillac xts.

    • @yunkellz
      @yunkellz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gm repair manual online.. that mechanic needs better resources..You just simply support the tension on the control arm with a jack without having to screw around with the airbag for no reason.

    We have a 2013 XTS premium and had the Same problem with the rear shocks. The first, rear drivers side was replaced at 36000 miles. The rear passenger side was replaced when my husband discovered the puddle under it at 64,000 miles. Picked it up on a Friday afternoon at a cost of $600.00. The very next day the rear drivers side starts leaking. Does this sound a little fishy? The dealership wanted to know why I was upset since the warranty paid for it the first time. I told them I was upset that my very expensive XTS premium was falling apart at only 65,000 miles. I had just replaced the air conditioning compressor two months before. Does anyone else think I should have to rebuild a $65,000 car at 65,000 miles. I also had to replace all the tires two years ago. What,s up with that? We are currently dealing with having to replace the Cue screen and the Instrument panel is now shorting out on has also.

      Hindsight is golden. These cars were junk from day one and I've got the first year 2013 xts. GM knew, Cadillac knew but they don't care they just cranked out thousands of these things. There's a class action suit been going on for years about the spidering of the CUE screens and they replaced the entire unit while it was under warranty and tried to charge me until I showed them the bulletin from GM. Do a search for all the bulletins because there are a bunch and they have to do it for free! Of course the screen on the second unit spidered and broke and the whole computer system goes wonky because the touchscreen doesn't work anymore. I bought a replacement touch screen but nobody wants to touch this car. There's another video online showing step by step and there must be a couple dozen screws you have to take out. The entire console comes out instead of simply popping the screen out. More GM nonsense. It's a daunting task and I haven't done it yet. All told I spent more than I should have and probably 4 to 5 grand on the suspension and other things which is all the car is actually worth at this point and I still owe another two grand on top of that!

      Cue screen is a pita, half the dash gets removed to take out the Cue Assembly, then you take it all apart to get to 4 screws for the screen. Engineering BS. Put the damn screws in front but noooo. Anyway, buy the screen for less than $100. Big tip, make sure you take the plastic film off the screen, and get the ribbon cable on right side up.
