      I had an 02' suburban with auto ride. Had 200k miles and worked great. Recently bought another 02' with standard suspension and wish we had the auto ride back. Is there a kit to put auto ride in a suburban that doesn't have it?

    Currently Working on this issue myself on a 2010 denali. I picked up some shocks from you guys and an air pump. both are replaced now. wired the new pigtail into the factory harness. when i first connected the pump and cleared codes, it inflated and deflated fine. after the first time i have codes again and it wont kick on.
    I have 2 codes
    C0660:06 Level control exhaust valve circuit short to ground/open (which does work if i manually toggle it while they are aired up by disconnecting and reconnecting the white wire),
    C0580:04 Right Front actuator circuit open. I am getting 3 ohms on the right front damper solenoid. 3 out of 4 level sensors show around 2.7v but my right front shows 1.6 which tells me i probably have high resistance on that level sensor.
    all terminals are clean, no blown fuses, no corrosion. vehicle does not see any winter driving. i can jump the 30-87 pins on the ALC Relay and it will inflate just fine. this is definitely a strange system but id like to get it working properly.
    my next thoughts are replacing that right front level sensor, if that doesnt work Maybe the ESC module? im not sure where else to turn but i do want to do a little more testing. i have all of the GM diag procedures at hand. any thoughts?

    • @irish6976
      @irish6976 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is not enough detail in your comment. If it did not have factory air shocks suspension, its not clear what the other owner installed. There is a TSB on parasitic voltage draw on 2002-2006 GM vehicles. Its not a recall just a bulletin. Apparently some of the control modules in the car can develop a higher current draw. A tech has to troubleshoot to find it.

    Hi, I have a 2005 chevy suburban, the air ride pump comes on once in a while... not regularly like it use to do... I pulled the harness off yesterday, terminals were green, so I sprayed electrical cleaner over it, a few times, and blew air over it, and repeated till green was gone... air pump started at one point, but quickly shut off. There is power at this harness... is my pump bad? Or something else? It's no more than 2 years old, shocks as well... thanks! Steve

    • @irish6976
      @irish6976 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1A Auto has options to keep the rear air ride suspension working using the stock ride height sensors. It's logical and 1A Auto has good support for options. Most people do this for affordability. However, some elect to pay for stock GM products to keep electronic dampening working. Very expensive. And considering some of the aftermarket options, better solutions can be found and the front shocks replaced with standard shocks that ride just fine. If the compressor, the pump is going non- stop, pull the RTD or Compressor fuses to save the pump from "burn out". Depending on the year of your vehicle, fuse options are different. Check you cars drivers manual. If the pump runs continuously you will burn the compressor pump out and its about $170 to replace that. The pump runs because their is a leak in the air system, most likely the rubber bladders at the rear shocks, but sometimes broken air lines to or from the rear shocks to the air compressor.

    • @irish6976
      @irish6976 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your air shock bladders may be leaking, spray bubble soap on the air bladder and look for air leaks. Tiny bubbles reveal your next step - air shock replacement.

  • @irish6976
    @irish6976 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have a 2003 Cadillac Escalade 2wd, 5.3L with Z55 Air Ride Suspension. At least with the 2003 you can have no codes at all and the entire suspension may be off line and no blown fuses. The air compressor was not working at all. (Key on = nothing) I replaced the air compressor first as this is where you have to begin! Reconnected battery, still no codes, but with Key on = air compressor pumped! Now with air I could test rear shocks as they inflated, I sprayed on soapy water with a spray bottle on the rubber. Both rear air shocks were leaking at the bottom of the shock rubber bladder. Replaced air shocks with new that supported electronic dampening. Still no codes. But rear air shocks inflated and rear suspension raised to proper height. Then I moved onto front electronic shocks (these have no air) replaced with new shocks. (I wanted to maintain the full Z55 electronic dampening for all 4 shocks). Not necessary to maintain electronic dampening by the way, and more expensive, but the way I wanted to go. (See other 1A Auto Videos)
    Now, finally, with both of the front shocks replaced, I get a "Service Air Ride" message on my vehicles digital display! Went to O'Reilly's Part store. Free check for codes. What a joke! Their scanner is not remotely capable of doing what 1A Auto Parts scanner did in this video! A scanner that can communicate to GM products to test the air ride suspension is a MUST HAVE! Not all scanners can get the accurate data that the 1A Auto Tech and specifically GM Data the tech showed to us all! So, all I could do is remove the battery terminals to get the "Service Air Ride" message to reset.
    On the 2002-2006 Cadillac Escalades and similar Tahoe's, Yukon's and Surburban's', its common to get no codes or messages at all and have no blown fuses. 2007- and up GM vehicles had greatly improved OBD2 monitoring, had more fuses assigned and better labeled and more fault code messages related to the suspension system.
    I thank 1A Auto for making video's like this! 1A Auto, can you please advise on adjustment, recalibration of the ride height sensors? And more importantly too, where can I buy new replacement ride height sensors if needed? My are pretty old. Thanks !

    My air ride suspension is way to stiff in the rear, is there a way to adjust the shocks? The shocks seems that they are aired all the way all the time.

    • @irish6976
      @irish6976 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No. If you are using low profile sidewall height on 20 and 22" rims, you are doomed. No shock can fix that. Use the highest sidewall height profile you can get. There are different rear shock selections. If you buy a GM replacement shock, its assuming you are using 17" or 20" rims. And rear shocks can differ between rim packages. But you might find a better rear shock, but they are stiff if you are to maintain the auto rear ride height for towing or heavy rear passenger or cargo loads.

    I’ve had an issue with my 09 Escalade Hybrid for over 2 years now. I disconnected battery and got a code. Anyhow, I bought all brand new Z95 shocks and they wasn’t cheap. I put them on and my ride was still horrible. It didn’t feel like I changed anything, matter of fact they felt stiffer. Months later I bought a scan tool and checked all the wheel sensors and they all displayed values and as I lifted vehicle up and down the values changed like there supposed to. Please can someone tell me if these new shocks needed calibrated or trim set??? I’m afraid if I continue to drive like this it will damage my new shocks from the bouncing around. Any advice on why my 09 Escalade hybrid with brand new Z95 magneride shocks is still driving rough as before please send my way! Thanks to all. 🙏

      Same prob, 2015 Yukon Denali. Ruff bouncy ride. Replaced front struts no difference. There is a TSB for it. Software update on the tis2.gmc website. I printed all this out. Took to dealer they basically acted like they didn't know what I was talking about. I basically handed them a color by number instruction sheet and they wouldn't do it. Told us we need front struts after we already just replaced them. This is at a dealer! I tried to get them to do the trim set as well had all of that printed out. They wouldn't do it either. Said they didn't know what I was talking about. I'm like I printed it out, from YOUR GMC website and you don't know about your on tsbs????? Going to pick it up today. Hoping to find a fix or were selling it and no more GMCs ever in my family.

      @20tea 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi sir, you're right. The shop mechanic probably has no clue as to what your talking about. Basically you're requesting a recalibration of the air ride suspension system. You're actually using the tech term for calibration. An informed mechanic should know what you're requesting. I'd look for another place to go to. Good luck!

    • @irish6976
      @irish6976 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I have the Z55 system and I replaced with AC Delco shocks. The front shocks were rough. I had converted from stock 17" rims, to 22" rims. This type of change and tire size change, affects the vehicle ride more so than shocks. GM provides different shock types to match wheel types. 17" and 20" are the GM supported wheels for most vehicles. GM added 22" support with much later vehicles. Basically, low profile wheels, are used with tires that have narrow height profiles and these eliminate the first shock absorber, the tire itself. Try and use as high a tire sidewall height possible if you are using a 20 or 22" wheel. A higher sidewall height can absorb more road shock. Also , lower the pressure in the tires, too much air = rougher ride. But never lower than mfg minimum recommendation. If you don't like the ride with 22" rims, switch to 20" with a higher sidewall height. No one with 17" wheels complains.

      @@1AAuto is their a way to test my rear air shocks on my 2002 buick lesabre before trying to check every inch of the air lines so i know which has actually failed?

    I replaced the compressor and the rear shocks and the compressor will not power on. I checked the fuses and they are good I pulled the relay under the hood and tested it and it clicks. I applied power to the relay connector and the compressor turns on. What is preventing the compressor from powering up on start up?

      +Calvin "Caltech" Whitfield Thanks for checking us out. It would be hard to say what the cause of this is. We would recommend taking this to a mechanic to see if they are able to figure out this issue as we are not with the vehicle we cannot diagnose the connectivity issue.

      @@1AAuto Thanks for the quick reply. I did take it to a mech and the fact there were no codes displayed when scanned, they were unable to determine the issue without tearing into the vehicle. and I didn't want to pay the $95 per hour charge. I will look into testing the ride height sensors next.

      @@calvincaltechwhitfield2545Hey, did you ever find the solution to your compressor not working? I'm having the same problem. New compressor and shocks. Fuses good, relay good. Jumped the compressor thru the relay it works fine. Not sure what to check next, 🤔maybe my level sensor?

      This could be anything depending on the year, make and model of your GM vehicle. Some 2002-2006 GM vehicles had ignition switches that work to start the car, but fail to start some sub systems due to the ignition switch wear and tear.
      Some fuses not labeled to the suspension system were combined on 2002-2006 model years with other engine or instrumentation support. Later vehicles 2007 and up did a much better job of separating suspension fuses, providing both a RTD fuse and a compressor only fuse. So start by check all fuses on the vehicle. Yes, a ride height sensor could be bad, but you have different sensors for all 4 wheels. The compressor will still activate. Usually, if the compressor does not activate, its the compressor itself.
      However, GM trucks are notorious for bad grounds. Sometimes the various grounding points under the chassis get corroded and present a higher resistance to ground and some sub systems won't operate correctly, or at start up. If you own an older GM vehicle, (I have a 2003 Escalade) search out the grounding points under the hood and under the chassis and clean them up. Easy to do. The suspension is covered in years of mud, salt or snow. Its maintenance.

    • @irish6976
      @irish6976 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is the Z55 and Z95 system packages that affect all 4 wheels with automatic dampening and air shocks on the rear, and ride sensors on all 4 wheels. Then GM had packages that were air shocks for just the rear wheels, and standard shocks for the front. Check inside your glove box, a list of codes will be there, that is all of the standard and special packages that GM installed on your vehicle. Look up each of those codes.

    The reason I watched the video is because my 2019 Cadillac Escalade ESV Platinum rides worse that a unsuspended hay wagon back on the farm. New tires properly inflated per the door sticker. Cadillac Dealer says all is well, I told him it's horrible ride.
