    Lyrics:
I don’t like my mind right now
Stacking up problems that are so unnecessary
Wish that I could slow things down
I wanna let go but there’s comfort in the panic
    And I drive myself crazy
    Thinking everything's about me
    Yeah I drive myself crazy
Cause I can’t escape the gravity
    I'm holding on
    Why is everything so heavy
    Holding on
To so much more than I can carry
I keep dragging around what's bringing me down
If I just let go, I'd be set free
    Holding on
    Why is everything so heavy
    You say that I'm paranoid
But I’m pretty sure the world is out to get me
It’s not like I make the choice
To let my mind stay so fucking messy
I know I'm not the center of the universe
But you keep spinning round me just the same
I know I'm not the center of the universe
But you keep spinning round me just the same
    I'm holding on
    Why is everything so heavy
    Holding on
To so much more than I can carry
I keep dragging around what's bringing me down
If I just let go, I'd be set free
    Holding on
    Why is everything so heavy
I know I'm not the center of the universe
But you keep spinning round me just the same
I know I'm not the center of the universe
But you keep spinning round me just the same
    And I drive myself crazy
    Thinking everything’s about me
    I'm holding on
    Why is everything so heavy
    Holding on
To so much more than I can carry
I keep dragging around what's bringing me down
If I just let go, I'd be set free
    Holding on

Wow, the hate against the song is Crazy. They never said they're gonna produce songs like HT or Meteora. Although we did get THP, but if you've been following them long enough, they don't do the same stuff again and again. So they went pop, so this is what they're experimenting right now. But in no way is this even comparable to the chainsmokers or Justin bieber. Just look at these lyrics, so relatable and meaningful. You can't call JB's song lyrics meaningful. Just accept the fact that not all songs or heck even albums will have rap or Chester screaming. This is not a bad song. Probably not their best, but it isn't bad either. Be open to new things, like they are

He stated he didn't want to continue on without him, and thus, with alcohol involved, chester too set his fate the same way as his friend.

Linkin Park have been experimenting for years. This song is fucking amazing because they experiment in the right way. They don't just slap 2 beats together and say "We tried something different. Buy our album because we're LP". No matter which genre they pick, they always put heart and soul in to everything they do. THAT'S why after all these years I still love Linkin Park.

Felidog I believe that experimenting doesn't have to do anything with what's mainstream. For a band which has played around with guitars and scratching, to rock guitars and drums, to heavier electronic sounds and beats, this will feel like experiment for them.
The pop beats(for the lack of better term), the reverse crashes, the live drums they will feel new for them. That's experiment. What the mainstream does doesn't matter. It's your journey.

This song might grow on someone like me who has listened to them since Hybrid Theory, and I loved every album after that, but some people are stuck in the past and not thinking what the artist themselves want to do. I see no point in them enjoying their career if the "fans" stuck in the past keep telling what THEY want to hear.

This song and "One More Light" read like suicide notes - I thought that when the album came out. Hearing "Heavy" had me breaking down because it was a dark time in my life, only to have Chester leave us shortly after. I still come back to this song when the depression hits deep and those thoughts come back, because everything really is heavy and I get tired from carrying so much weight. I'd love to let go, but I have a furbaby who needs me.

My thought was the same about when the song came out that it might be because I was already feeling low, but it came to me as a surprise as well when Chester was gone. I am also back here because the depression is still with me. But I would like to tell you to live on! It might be tiring and heavy to carry on, but I am expecting great things to come to all of us along the journey, be that a great friend, a partner, or just some small things that we can appreciate. Good luck to you!

Aw damn. Listening to this song after Chester left makes it so much more emotional. The whole album itself is just so much more intense to listen to. When I listened to it back in May, I admit that I cried when One More Light played...this album is definitely one of LP's best albums. And it really sucks how many people did not like this song let alone the album when it came out, saying that LP was "selling out." Just because this album is different, doesn't mean it's bad. But a lot of people label certain artists, including LP, to a certain genre which is something that you shouldn't do. LP took risks, which is something that I've always admired about them. The sound may be different, but the meanings to these songs is still just as important as they always were.
I just still can't come to terms that Chester isn't here anymore, and that this is his last album.
R.I.P. Chester. We will always love you. :(

That's exactly what I feel, this song never fails to make me cry. I really love this song. This song really helps me release the weight on my shoulders. Every time when I feel blue, I hear this song and after a couple of tears, everything much better after that. Even though nobody knows what I feel, what I'm thinking about or what in the situation I was through, it doesn't matter. Cause sometimes the situation is enough to make a mess and making me tired. I just wanna release my emotions and if someone knows what I mean without I say it, it would be much better. I just need someone to understand me, supporting me without any judging and questionable face. If I can't find it, at least I still have me. Cause sometimes it's just me, myself, and I 😊. Thanks a lot for making this masterpiece ❤❤💜

they have, and i would normally be here agreeing with you, but this is the first time i actually feel let down by the change. While they have made some pop-oriented songs in the past, this is just BAD pop, the kind that is made with a recipe in hand to have some sucess on the radio but has 0 substance. And the guest vocalist's very bland delivery of the song is the coup de grace that kills any hope the song had.

    • @Lt5K1TZ
      @Lt5K1TZ 7 ปีที่แล้ว +20

The problem people have isn't that they're changing. LP has always experimented with their music since some of their earliest tracks. To the best of my knowledge, they were one of the first to incorporate rap in their alternative/heavy rock and they did it so well. Then they experimented with something more electronic and techno with Living Things, and while a lot of the die-hard rock fans lost interest, I personally started listening to Linkin Park with that album. Then Recharged came out, which I thought was a little weird, putting out an entire album for some dubstep fan remixes of their older songs, but they did make a new song and the remixes were all great picks. Save for the fans who are serious, die-hard heavy rock fans, I think most of us can agree that albums like LT, Recharged and The Hunting Party especially were all great albums. Now take a listen to "Heavy." No Mike Shinoda, no real essence of what Linkin Park has always been, no great movements or real substance at all. It's just Chester and some girl I've never heard of delivering their lines like they mistook the recording session for a joke "Now That's What I call Generic Pop #42" kind of thing. Experimentation is almost always a good thing, and the LP crew have been doing it for years, but this doesn't feel like experimenting with a new musical taste while keeping their original LP essence. This feels like they got bored and just wanted to make some extra money with radio companies, so they threw together a generic pop song, grabbed some singer to join them and just rolled with it. That's not Linkin Park. At least, it shouldn't be.

I have been a fan of LP for a long time, and still am. They are great guys and do great things with their craft. I have thoroughly enjoyed their departures from their original nu metal sound. A Thousand Suns was emotional and engaging and unique, Minutes to Midnight was a great change of tone, and when Living Things came out it utilized electronic sounds in a way that made sense for LP. Even Hunting Party had a couple really good tracks that hit hard and had a unique sound. This song, however, seems way too much like a cookie cutter pop song. Sure, they are trying something new, but the sound on this track does everything so safely rather than pushing something unique as they did with Living Things and other albums where they changed up their sound.
I understand that people dislike when long-time fans criticize newer stuff, but this is just something I can't groove with. It isn't bad per se and is even somewhat catchy. Overall it just isn't something I would go out of my way to listen to since it has such a similar sound to a lot of pop songs from the last couple years. I really hope the rest of the album has some twists thrown in there and a more unique flavor.
Again, I am a long time fan. I don't want them to go back to their original late 90's/early 2000's sound because they have matured past that and I can enjoy the old stuff by simply listening to it. I have enjoyed, for the most part, every shift in sound and style they've made with their albums from the past 10 years. I just want this album to have a unique spin at some point and am hoping that a unique sound, even if inspired and similar to most pop music, will come out. This particular track just seems uninspired and a safe play on LP's part.
Will be looking forward to the next tracks that come out and have confidence that the guys can pull of something truly neat to listen to and more colorful than this particular song.

+1 Couldn't have said any better myself.. I knew that they gonna go in this more pop-ish direction with this album, but I also hoped (and still hope even after listening to this Top40 song) that they will give that sound some unique much more courageous spin. This one so far seems like a very very generic and forgettable radio hit for the actual year. But still, hopefully the other songs off the album will be different. (Also, am I the only one who struggled to imagine how they going to perform this track live?)

Every disliker of this song is most likely a true Linkin Park fan. Being a "true" fan doesn't mean I have to pretend to love everything they come out with. I seriously hate this song, but doesn't mean I'm not a real fan. I've been with these guys since I was around 3 years old jamming out to hybrid theory. I also love a thousand suns and living things as well because they always kept the same unique LP sound. This sounds like the usual one hit wonder, played out garbage that this generation loves. Love you Linkin Park, but I can't love everything you create. I wouldn't be a "TRUE" fan.

You have a strong point but one flaw, being a "true fan" does not really mean to pretend to like every song they make, it is simply supporting them. I also have been jamming out to "Hybrid Theory" especially the song "Paper cut" I understand you hate this song with a burning passion but you cant change the direction Linkin Park is heading. They are trying something new, and as a fellow fan I can only support them on there journey even if I dislike the song I can see that they are taking "Risks" to see if it does well and in my opinion I think this song is good. Not great but pretty decent. Further more if you are a "True Fan" you can give your opinion on this song and dislike but "In The End" being a fan is to support them.✌️✌️✌️✌️

Then go listen to them. The music doesn’t just “disappear”
once 5 years pass. Music changes & artists change, grow up.
Edit: As I look through these replies, once again all I see is complaining. If you don't like ‘em, adios. Don’t listen or support em anymore. No one cares. No need to be like "Oh what sellouts" or "they're just changing to fit in." Listen to their other albums (like Hunting Party, their last one). Not fitting in, they're obviously doing what they want.

A decent song in general. But from a Linkin Park fan's point of view, this was garbage. There is nothing wrong with experimenting, every artist does that. But you have to stay true to yourself. When they collaborated with Steve Aoki - A Light That Never Comes, that song was EDM. But still had that Linkin Park vibe to it. This song was just an attempt to blend in with the mainstream songs that are popular today. With no Linkin Park feel to it at all. Could have just called this song, Heavy- Kiiara- ft Chester Bennington.

it's ok to experiment & everything but as much as i love this song's lyrics I can't seem to like it because it lost the LP vibe + the melody is mainstream AF.
They can do good things experimenting ( see: aoki's collab) but not like this, not turning into mainstream sh*t.

I know bands will evolve, bands will change but at least it will still be rock or some form of music that involves rock and roll. This is not rock, this is pop, this is like chain smokers, this is not even Linkin Park it's like Kiiara feat LP. I still have hope that the rest of the album is diff but as of the moment I am really disappointed with them. The song is Ok, but it is not LP :(

CloudManPT Totally agree with you there are 6 musicians in this band, they have the money and the talent to create intelligent and creative songs and look at what they come up with ! A boring, weak and dull song ! And to everyone who says "Duuuhhh you just don't like change, they're experimenting with new stuff" just FUCK OFF. Their whole career has been about experimenting but this is not trying new stuff, it's just taking the easy road by making the most simplistic shitty pop song they could ! It's so empty it isn't even 3 minutes long !!! It's just a fucking radio friendly song ! And Mike said the whole album was gonna be like this ! If it's just a bunch of over repeating easy/cheesy songs Linkin Park has just become a joke ! How can they be so proud of releasing that kind of bullshit ?? How can the whole band feel satisfied about the album then ?? Look at the live they've done for the releasing of the song, they were only 3 from to band to play !! FUCKING THREE ! So what ? The others can just go fuck themselves ?? I'm so mad about them ! And they were the very first band that got be in music and especially rock music.

To anyone who thinks the people who dislike it are angry that it's not exactly like Hybrid Theory and/or Meteora:
Today people believe the idea of "rock music" means Twenty One Pilots, X Ambassadors, Lorde, hell I've even seen Shawn Mendes been categorized as rock. They view rock as either old people stuff or as a meme - go to any popular 00's rock song and you'll see dumb comments "Crawling In My Crawl" "I'm Here Without Harambe" "Is this Smash Mouth" etc etc etc. Billboard's "Hot Rock Songs" chart has 40% rock on a good day and even less on a bad day. Grammys have not managed to hand all three rock awards to actual rock music since 2013. I'm seeing people saying that Migos or similar has more in common with punk rock than "the radio garbage that is Foo Fighters". If you ask teens today what they believe is rock you'll get the answer "Twenty One Pilots" or "Fall Out Boy". If you're lucky someone MIGHT say "Arctic Monkeys". I've seen people denying the fact that everyone's hate object Nickelback makes rock music. Meanwhile people mumbling about "Hoes" are praised and anyone who likes actual rock is branded an "edgy emo kid".
But there was an exception. Their name was Linkin Park. They were the biggest rock band of the whole 2000's. A unique, innovative band that made an entire new brand of music, that'd later be known as the 2nd wave of "nu metal". Inspiring many bands (today Bring Me The Horizon are a very clear example). They dared to experiment (A Thousand Suns) and refused to be the commercial garbage far too many popular artists were. And in 2014, they made an album called "The Hunting Party". It featured extremely respected musicians such as hiphop legend Rakim, alternative metal legend Page Hamilton of the band Helmet, and rap metal guitar hero Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave. The title of this album came from the concept of "Linkin Park hunting for the spirit of rock". Mike Shinoda made comments on how rock today sounds like pop. He even said Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails was spending his entire new record whispering. To me it seems like The Hunting Party was their way of showing they wanted to be seen as a legendary band. Like they wanted to keep rock - not indie pop or poprock, ROCK, alive.
And then they go and release this. There is NO difference between this and any top 40 song - this sounds EXACTLY like The Chainsmokers. It is co-written by top 40 songwriters famous for being exactly that. People who have worked with Justin Bieber. There is a popular top 40 singer on the track, and Chester Bennington's voice is AUTOTUNED. All to fit in. All to comply with the trend of commercializing, watering-down, and neatly packaging safe, unemotional music that is sometimes literally DESIGNED to be played in the background of a club, with uninspired, generic lyrics. EVERYTHING the Hunting Party was against. Matter of fact, if this is how the entire album sounds, NO heavy rock band has EVER sold out like this - NOT EVEN NICKELBACK.
When rock is dying and people only see it as a joke, when indie pop gets pushed forward as rock, when actual rock musicians are continously denied the rock awards that they, NOT indiepop, should get, the biggest 00's rock band releases the most conforming, safe, top 40 pop song I've ever heard from ANY heavy band.
*That is why we are so angry. It's got nothing to do with fanboy-ism or nostalgia. It's about preserving a music genre we all have grown to love. Wonder why people say rock is dead/dying? LOOK. NO. FURTHER.*
Sorry for the long comment, but I am quite frankly SICK AS HELL of this.

      @36424567254 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

i'm no fan of big musical rants but this one is suprisingly accurate. I've never been a die-hard fan of Linkin Park, BUT i've always been a fan and KEPT being one despite the shift from nu-metal to electronic rock. I didn't like EVERY single song, but every album had a good amount of songs i liked or really liked, and possibly a small amount of songs that in my mind didn't really work out as they planned, often sounding a bit too experimental. But this is the first time in all the various things they've done that i'm actually disappointed, and you clearly explained why. This is the contrary to the 'too experimental' that at times undernoted some of their songs. This is the safest, most bland, generic pop song i've heard in a while. It's not even a good pop song. I simply cannot understand how they came to make something like this, people cry 'sellout' but LP have been "mainstream" for a LONG time that i didn't think they could "sellout" even if they tried.
In fact, with the ridicolous title the song has, i can almost picture them in a moment of boredom going "we've done nu-metal, we've done hip-hop, we've done electronic, we've done the so called "alternative rock" and even some pop-rock and still managed to come out succesfully. I wonder if we can sellout too". They could.

nick supreme probably one of the most true comment I have read on here. They don't have to sound like they did in the early 2000's (although it would be nice). Even something like Minutes to Midnight would be acceptable. How can they call themselves "rock" from this point forward? This is not rock 'n roll. This is desperation.

Thanks man, this just puts my feeling towards this perfectly... The problem is that there is a decent Linkin Park song in there it is just drowned out by the production, even a little good guitars will make this song (not great) but decent enough, If the production on the song was more raw and honest like in Hunting Party I would have been fine with the song;(

Yes, this album didn’t feel like Linkin Park, but you gotta respect them for taking such a bold move to shift the genre for this one. This is genuinely a pretty good track that really hits hard when you realise what this and “One More Light” were trying to say. Rest in Peace, Chester. We love you. ❤

I'll add my two cents here, even though I should know better than comment on youtube.
Anyway, I've been an LPU soldier for 8 years now (would be for longer if I could afford it earlier) and a huge fan ever since HT. I'm stating this to avoid the arguments of "you're a new fan and don't know sh*t" or "you just want a new HT, grow up", etc.
I love the band mission to not be labeled by a genre or style. I love the idea of changing and shaking things up. It actually helped me a lot, since it enabled me to get to know different kinds of music and different bands along with their evolution. So, IMO, they could go full pop, wouldn't really matter. But let me quote Phoenix from his interview for the Frat Party at the Pankake Festival (and he's quoting Mike, so yeah, quote of a quote):
"Mike always says 'we would never want you to listen to a song and have it be like 'ok, here's the hip hop verse, here's the hard rock chorus and here's, like, the bridge that has an eletronic feel to it'. But instead have you just listen to it and say 'I know that sound, that's Linkin Park''"
For me, that's where this song fails. They have managed to accomplish that in all of their albums. But this song, I listen to it and I just don't get that LP element, that something unique. It feels generic, bland and flat. That's why I understand a lot of people saying "this could as well be a song of singer X or Y".
So, let me apologize for what I'm about to say, but it is the first time i heard an LP song and didn't like it. I don't hate the band, or anything like that. I just don't like this particular song.

    • @zeesizzle7328
      @zeesizzle7328 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Also felt like this song is missing that LP element. I hope that the song is this way inclined because it's the lead single, and that the rest of the album has that unique LP sound, although, after listening to the song about 100 times, I'm starting to hear some LP elements, hopefully I'm not just trying to convince myself

Lucas De Pretto really? imo, I can clearly hear the Linkin Park in the song. From the beat to the chord progression all the way to the lyrics. it's still very much LP to me, and i really like this song, although it could have been better. but I get what you mean though. no hate, just my own 2 cents

    • @LucasDePretto
      @LucasDePretto 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

I understand your point as well. I'm actually glad that some people can still feel LP in this song, even if it takes time, as @Zee Sizzle pointed out. So no hate at all. Just different takes on the music :)

They are just having a different phase in their career right now. And they have every right to experiment whether people like it or not. Musicians write what they feel and cannot pretend that they are still stuck in an earlier phase or write what people expect every time. They are still exploring and trying to go with the flow and honestly this is better than if they would have tried writing something like their old stuff. It would have turned out to be boring and monotonous.
Anyway, everyone's got their own opinions but I like this even after how basic this track is. It connects on a different level.

Except it's no the first time they've changed direction: MTM, ATS and LV. All those changed a lot compared to previous albums and people dealt with the change. This may well be the new ATS or LT, in the sens that it's more electronic. I ´think OML will be the new ATS, people may dislike at start but as the years go the fans will grow up as well as the band, and they will start appreciating the new material and direction.

Just expressing my opinion. I may only be 16 and I may only have started liking LP in 2014, but I've listened to all their albums, songs and collaborative songs, as well as watched enough interviews, read enough on social media and youtube comments to know that people are lowering their expectations based on the sound of ONE single, instead of waiting for more singles and eventually the new album.

I honestly wasn’t a huge fan of this song when it came out and feel awful about that. Perhaps it just wasn’t my jam back then but this song happened to come on one day and I gave it a far better listen. Now it sticks in my head and is one of my favorites of theirs. I’ve given the whole album a listen. It was just very different from the LP I grew up listening to, but it grew on me over time to appreciate it. Was it as hard hitting? No. Still a very good song in every way. I still can’t believe Chester is gone like many others. Listening to them hasn’t been the same for a good while but I’ve come back around to it over the years. A friend of mine and I use to go to karaoke and both sing some of their songs and I would sing Chester’s parts. We haven’t done that since before he passed. We meant to do a tribute and life happened. It just never got done. Thank you Chester and LP for all the great music.
