Having attempted suicide 3 times, I felt every word in this song! The first time I heard it was sadly after he passed away. I heard his pain in his other songs such as Numb, One More Light, and In The End. I struggle with depression and anxiety and it’s hard reaching out to people who don’t understand. I have always hated it when people say that those who commit suicide are just selfish. How many times did Chester cry out and express his pain when nobody took him seriously? He just wanted the pain to end and the only way he knew how was to commit suicide. My heart still breaks for him today. I can’t imagine what his last days were like, but I can understand the pain of rejection and criticism. Chester was a beautiful soul who gave us a beautiful gift of his existence and music. I got to see Shinoda’s amazing “Looking For An Answer” live as well as some of my favorites from the 90s/00s joining with the rest of the band to perform all the hits. It wasn’t Chester, but it was as close as I’ll ever get. Even heard Daron from System of A Down who I feel has a similar ability to sing both soft and hard like Chester. Superunknown was one of the 1st CD’s I ever bought. My favorite song on there was “Fell On Black Days”, a similar message to “Heavy”. 1st CD that wasn’t a greatest hits that I could listen to all the way through was “Hybrid Theory”. I got to see Shinoda’s amazing “Looking For An Answer” live as well as some of my favorites from the 90s/00s joining with the rest of the band to perform all the hits. It wasn’t Chester, but it was as close as I’ll ever get. Even heard Daron from System of A Down who I feel has a similar ability to sing both soft and hard like Chester.
Superunknown was one of the 1st CD’s I ever bought. My favorite song on there was “Fell On Black Days”, a similar message to “Heavy”. 1st CD that wasn’t a greatest hits that I could listen to all the way through was “Hybrid Theory”. I just hate that I didn’t like this the 1st time I heard it and went straight to “Waiting For The End” only to realize this song would have the biggest impact being Chester’s actual “Good Goodbye” 😢
