Love that i don’t have to stress about wind noise anymore when im in a rush to shoot outside. Now i can just focus on getting the shot i want. Such a solid upgrade!
The part about image quality was really well explained, especially the 8K res. I imagine most people will also use it as a vlog camera for holidays and such. Thanks so much for your video!
I have the Ace Pro and it must be due to TH-cam compression: when the HDR is on, the level of detail is still brutal. I was in a Zoo and afterwards, when watching straight from the camera on my big OLED TV, even my family couldn´t believe it was from an action cam. It´s THAT great. Both highly recommended.
For me the biggest upgrade is the Audio and Night modes, everything else seems pretty similar to the Ace Pro (I own one). If I had to buy new, I would directly go to the Ace Pro 2, but having the original AP, I see very little need, specially because I use external mics. It´s though the best camera for now, as - IMHO - my Ace Pro was last year! Day & Night they are fantastic!
The biggest difference I’m seeing is the skin tones. I have the Ace pro 1, coming from GoPro it took a bit to grow on me. Now I love it! I was going to upgrade my GoPro 11’s to the 13 but GoPro really dropped the ball. I’d be all in on ace pro but it’s really important to me to be able to steal photos out of the video. GoPro nails this feature, as far as I can see GoPro is the only action camera you can do that with. That wind guard is awesome and 4k60 with HDR 🔥😳
Your reviews are brilliant and I know it's not biased when I prefer the look of Ace Pro 1. Better saturation and better contrast. The Ace Pro 2 looks desaturated and too bright at times during the day. Black should look black and not grey as it does in certain conditions, on your hair, with the Ace Pro 2. I have black hair, so this would be problematic for me.
It would be great to see a pro comparison of AcePro2 (iLog) vs. OsmoA5 (LogD?), Gopro13 (with flat profie, wide gamut, and maybe mOLOGB=200 custom curve, and at least 150mbit - can be H11 or 12 as these are the same). Fixed shutter ISO and WB settings Which one has best dynamic range and wether the 10bit is just a horse and pony show, or it makes a big difference after some point when you grade. Maybe the Osmo Pocket 3 too... and in low light too.
Great review! This is the first video I've seen of yours. Just subscribed. The AP2 looks more focused. I love the wider angle of view, and the audio quality is amazing. Bought mine this morning!
Great review! You’ve quickly become one of my favorite gear reviewers. I was really hoping to see a fully articulated 360-degree flip-screen, and the lack of 10-bit support feels like a missed opportunity, it’s 2024, after all! I’d also prefer 4K at 60fps over 8K at 30fps. Most people stick to 4K, and 8K just eats up too much storage without offering a huge quality improvement. Plus, the color balance in 8K seems a bit off. I think I’ll wait for next year’s model, but your review made the decision a lot clearer!
Thanks Tamara for more great, and informative content! Always very appreciated and Thumbs Up. Eagerly await the drop for the DJI Omso Action 5 Pro vs Ace Pro 2 comparison! I'm pretty set on the former as the external mic connectivity is attractive. Thanks!
When the sun was out I preferred the AP1 which is the same situation between DJI A4 & A5. I notice that the greens are also a bit to saturated for me. For those that like to color grade then it's not a problem but I tend to be lazy in that regard so I just want a good looking normal color profile.
With exception to this video other TH-camrs dare not compare both same day 😂😂Thanks for this video 🎉hats off..u did the comparisons directly ..When dji osmos action 5 came people reviewed it against action 4 same day when ace pro 2 came all videos am seeing they are avoiding comparison with ace pro 1 😂😂😂
Great video. Question, do you know if the accessories are interchangeable between the pro and the Pro? 2. For example the cage, screen protectors, mounts etc? Thank you!!!!!
I’ve shot a few videos with the AP2, and after setting the color profile, the direct-exported color looks fantastic to me. Everyone’s discussing 10-bit, but I don’t think it’s very necessary for the way most people use cameras.
Seems like a pretty legit update, especially that wind guard on the in-built mic. But MAN GODDAMN it bugs the hell out of me that the Go 3 S and the Ace cams don't have the same mag latch mount. Having to carry separate tripods or change out the mount all the time is so freaking annoying.
Geat video 🙌 Audio is definitely a noticeable improvement in AP2. I still can't decide between Ace Pro 2 or Osmo Pocket 3. The reason why I give a little more points to the AP2 is because I don't have to worry about rain and I can still record without a problem.
Great video thank you, With the new audio wind guard, could it easily come of camera when filming ? can you use accessories from ace pro one, like a cage ? many thanks.
For me the only big changes the ace pro 2 brings over the ace pro is better low light footage and better audio. If you use this cam for vlogging then the ace pro 2 definitely is the better choice, but if you use the cam for sports (MX, MotoVlogs, Mountainbike trailblazing,…) then the ace pro still delivers the same results for less money. I own the Ace Pro and use it for MotoVlogging. I got a separate mic installed in my helmet so the new mic audio doesn’t matter much. Yes, I also could connect my intercom to the AP2 so I then got 2 audio files, one from the sound of the cam and the other one from the com. But since the com mic isn’t as good as my separate mic I wouldn’t wanna use this feature. The better low light feature is a big deal but doesn’t justify another 500€ purchase on a cam that is just slightly better than what I own It’s kinda crazy that insta still doesn’t unveils that you can swap the lens on the ace pro, but now says the ace pro 2 got a swappable lens
Low light on the pro 2 is way better. That alone makes it worth the upgrade. The ace pro low light is WAY better than the gopro which is what sold me on it. But the Pro 2 low light is phenomenal.
Great comparison. Love the new audio, that is worth it on its own......but there does not seem to be a giant leap in picture quality. In fact in some scenarios the AP1 seemed better overall and in others the AP2. I have both the OA4 and AP1, but tend to go for the AP1 most times as I also use the X3.
Got the DJI Action 5 and returned it for the low picture resolution issue. This Ace Pro 2 is no different. I'm pretty disappointed in action camera releases this year. Seems like we should have gotten more. DJI Pocket 3 will continue to be the go to for me as a small carry around camera.

Awesome. Can you do a low light test between Ace Pro 2 and Action 5 Pro on latest firmware in low light? In normal video modes and in low light video modes?
There seams to be day light jitters on the ace pro 2 video , particularly seen on the roofs . Pehaps a lower detail setting could be used to help reduce them
Thanks Tamara! Did you try connecting an external mic? I’m curious if an external, ie DJI mic 2, sounds better with the OA5 or AcePro 2. Or if they sound similar,
Tamara, what a lovely clip! ‘To be honest’ I love your way to talk about things ...! I’m gonna buy this cam, prob. Thank you very much! Do you know, whether their 360+ cloud service is compatibel w/ the Ace Pro 2? They say it’s not, yet ... What’s that mean ...? There is no 360 degree mode, of course, but ...? I don’t know!
I couldn't see or hear any significant difference. Some scenes the 1 was better and vice versa :-) Thank you for the valuable comparison. As an owner of the Action 5 and Ace Pro I greatly prefer the images from my Ace Pro!
How is the minimum focusing distance on the Ace Pro 2? Is it in focus when hand held vlogging? Also, how's the audio quality with the DJI Mic 2 connected via Bluetooth? Inbody audio is very impressive on the AcePro2. It was the give away before you revealed which camera is which.
I found it hard to distinguish any video quality difference Tamara, where I did tell a big difference was the audio quality from Camera 2, it was much better, although I detect a tad bit muddy tone.. Lots of bg noise form AP compared to AP2. And I agree with you about the audio improvements on the AP2, it might be a big reason that I upgrade. However, the close focusing issue was something I wanted to see improved so I wouldn't have to use a dioptic filter. Was there no improvement there? Great review Ms. Tamara! 💜
Camera 2 did a much better job with your skin tones but there were times that camera 1 had better overall picture quality. The audio on both was very good. My question is does it have the ability to be set start recording at a certain time. Like start at 5 am for sunrise
Wow! Okay, so with that audio straight out of camera that negates the DJI's ecosystem advantage with the Mic 2's unless you're specifically needing to be at a distance from the camera. However, I'm not so sure how the skin tones are compared to the Action 5. I'm thinking the Action 5 looked much more natural. I'm torn, until I can see some more head to head comparisons.
about windreduction I have ace pro, x3 and x4. I threw away the x4 windmuff coz its too loose and put the x3 windguard on both the x4 and ace pro instead, and it works well.
the close focusing issue is still the same as the AP1 nothing has been fixed, they still use the same sensor size it's not upgraded, the only real upgrade is the battery and the audio.
@youcefyahia2008 No. It's a different lens and it does because of that focus more closely. Note: the Ace Pro sensor is the same size as that on the DJI Action 4 and Pro 5.
@@markr041 they are the same size sensor, how are they different?! The close focus isn't fixed based on the comparison of this video, it's the same close focus issue as the AP1
@youcefyahia2008 1. It is a wider angle lens. 2. Another tester showed it focused closer. The wider the angle of a lens, given the same sensor size, the greater the depth of field.
Camera 1. just looks more natural...camera 2 is trying too poost the highlights in the midrange which is giving it a less cohesive look. The hdr does help a lil bit, flattens the extremes a bit. not mad.
Do the files automatically split after a certain GB size or length or does the entire clip stay a single file no matter the length of shot on the Insta360 Ace Pro 2?
I'm going to buy Ace Pro 2, it is going to be my first ever dedicated camera for shooting cycling videos. I have watched many reviews where they used term "vlogging" and thats boggling me. Can i use this particular camera for the indended purpose i.e recording cycling video. Thank you!
The only noticeable difference to my eyes or ears was low light. Although your night comparison was very brief it did look to me like the 2 brought out more shadow detail ?
Does it do UVC Webcam mode for Live Streaming? Looks like the low lighting is way better. I need an action cam for IRL Live Streaming to Moblin with iphone. OSMO Action 4/5 works with it. I didn't like the pocket 3 for the focus breathing and lack of settings while using webcam mode. The image looked very washed out to me compared to my S23 Ultra or iphone 15 pro max. My current setup is iPhone 15 pro max with Hohem iSteady V3 gimbal and S23 Utlra for 2nd phone tethering from hotspot and to read the chat.
I am a fan of DJI but the image quality is much better/natural in the ace pro 2 and that audio...oh wow... is crazy good. Will wait for a non-sponsored review. Thank you very much
@@heythere1968 every one goes mad that there is no 10 bit, but most watch on an 8 bit monitor anyway. but in reality 10 bit is old certainly when if you are used to astronomy cameras that do 14 or 16bit, but it still renders 8 bit on the lap top monitor.
@@m4rcin847 Yes, you are totally right. I was rushing with my opinion. Was the first review for Ace Pro 2, but after watching a couple of reviews, is the same as Dji 5 pro. Personally, I would go back to Dji action 4 just for the colour accuracy and not over-processed image, even if is darker than dji 5 Pro and ace pro 2.
Too bad they're the only ones sticking to 8bits. Admittedly, not everybody color grades their footage. I'm very impressed by the audio upgrade from the previous model, though.
After seeing 5 reviews of the ace pro 2 this one made me get the DJI OA5 pro, i dont think its better than the DJI.. if I were to rank them it would be OA 5 > Ace Pro 2 > GoPro
Pro 2 has significantly better audio quality, but no self-respecting vlogger would EVER use in-built mic under any circumstances. Ever. Na-ah. Nope. Image quality is slightly better in the Pro 2 but not marginally. Saturation is a little more pronounced but that can easily be arranged in the post. 8K still doesn't have a lot of applications. I can think of some action situations where you may want to shoot 8K 30 frames just to be able to zoom in but frankly, it doesn't justify upgrading for me. Wider field of view (151 degrees vs 157 on the pro 2) can be useful in some cases but again, wider angle means more distortion. I use my cam on a chin mount on my helmet for motorcycle vlogging. As long as I can fit both my mirrors in my fov, I'm happy. 151 degrees is plenty. Low light performance is also slightly better in the PRO 2 but it also has some problems with washing out the blacks. In summary, my next camera will be an Ace Pro 2 but not before I get marginal benefit from my Ace Pro.

For me, clear sound is just as important as video quality. I’m glad Insta360 added a wind guard to the AP2, and that it works well.

I hope they fix the artifacting in the trees on the 2...
Great video, very well detailed.
Im deciding if I should go with the action 5 pro or this new insta360 release, and I think I've decided!
#teamdji :D
Wish i could trade in my current ace pro 1 to purchase the new ace pro 2. Why why is insta360 not offering a trade in for its loyal customers....
Another great video
Thanks ☺️
Camera 2 definitely looking like a good upgrade. Image quality noticably better all round
Too bad they're the only ones sticking to 8bits.
Admittedly, not everybody color grades their footage.
I'm very impressed by the audio upgrade from the previous model, though.
compare insta 360 ace pro 2 and dji action 5
After seeing 5 reviews of the ace pro 2 this one made me get the DJI OA5 pro, i dont think its better than the DJI.. if I were to rank them it would be
OA 5 > Ace Pro 2 > GoPro
Is camera 2 "flickering" on the background?
3:00 Minutes in an so far I’m liking camera 2.
Does it allow users to change aspect ratio after filming?
Yes, if shooting in the FreeFrame video mode.
I Need To See Someone Talk About The Focus Distance!
I own a nice Pro and went for camera one because I really like the video quality and now this sounds dumb but I think the Ace Pro 2 is too digital.
Can you attach type C mic receiver?
Yes
