Yup, after looking/hearing that clip, I went back to other clips I've recorded over the last while, and once the wind/ground speed hits about 30-35KPH, it kicks in pretty clearly on the Action 5 Pro. Fine at lower speeds.
@@VisionMTB Interesting, I just used defaults (as I usually do). I find that 99% of the time when I dork with any wind/noise reduction settings, I end up making things worse (true on all these cameras). 😂

Amazing review as always, please keep up your work! I would love to see an action camera "round up" with a winners in a few categories e.g. Best value, best overall, best stabilization or something like that. I'm in the market for a camera but it's hard to figure out if I should just buy an older one or not, and which one to pick.
That’s a solid comparison. I just upgraded my hero 7 black with a 12. The Jump is pretty significant and I am fine with just point and shoot capability and not really into all the other cool options lol. This video was very informative and based on a lot of important details. Keep up the good work!
Great video and you connected a lot of dots of the Ace Pro series and where Insta360 is going with this camera and the demographic they are targeting, obviously it's working ;)
They had me at having the same sensor as my Action 5 Pro. They lost me at still 8-bit video. Having 13.5 stops of dynamic range and neutering it to 8-bit is properly maddening. It's like they built a McLaren but then made it only able to hold a single passenger that's shorter than 5 foot 6. Yes, it's technically usable, but you're unnecessarily neutering its full capacity.
It's more like building a McLaren but then limiting it to 50hp. And they even have the audacity to put a log profile in it. What's the point of having log if it shoots in 8-bit and you can't retrieve any detail afterwards? That's actually sad because otherwise it would be a great camera.
Dynamic range has nothing to do with 8-bit or 10-bit color space. If that was true, why does the action 5 pro captures less details/textures than the ace pro 2? Lol.
@@lemdemar6054 Wrong! DR has everything to do with 8bit vs 10bit and here's why: the entire point of having 13.5 stops of DR is post production. You can recover a lot more highlight and shadow detail with such high DR, ultimately producing a better final rendering. But if you try to do that with 8bit files, you'll end up with A LOT of colour banding. That would be minimised by using 10bit because you would be starting with a lot more colour information. Regarding the comparison of Action 5 Pro vs Ace Pro 2: you're just proving our point because the footage you're talking about is the 8bit footage. Even the Action 4 is better in normal 8bit footage than the 5 Pro. All the cameras mentioned use active HDR and try to fit all the information into an 8bit file. The Action 4 and Ace Pro 2 are better at that conversion. The 5 Pro advantage is that it has much better 10bit footage than the 4 due to the higher dynamic range and by editing, applying LUTs, etc. you can end up with the style of image you like, instead of the one the manufacturer chose.
@@ruicosta3396 from all the research I’ve done. We’re both right and wrong. Lol. Dynamic range is not directly related to color depth. So Im right regarding that. Meaning the ace pro 2 is capable of capturing 13.5 stops of dynamic range. You’re right that once you go in post and push the image to the darkest and brightest, it will start to have banding. But, how many of the user base do you think is gonna do that? Even those who bought the action 5 pro for having 10-bit. Also with the amount of videos I watched. What good is the 10 bit if the action 5 pro captures/renders less details and highlights than the ace pro 2, which cannot be recovered in post. Also it doesnt matter how much color space you have, you’re not editing that ugly conshaped lens flare out of the video. That’s one of the reasons why I went with the ace pro 2.
@@lemdemar6054 I think you are missing the point. We know what DR is. One is related to the other because in order to use all that DR to our advantage, we need 10bit color depth. You would be surprised at how many content creators use these cameras and shoot in 10bit. But the point you are missing the most is that when you say the footage from the Ace Pro 2 is better, you are comparing 8bit footage from both cameras. In order to do a proper comparison you should put the 8bit footage from Ace Pro 2 against properly edited 10bit footage from the Action 5 Pro, because the thing with the 5 Pro is that I don't have to rely on the camera to have great image quality from the start. I can take all that information and make it a lot better image in post. And yes, the normal 8bit video from the Action 5 Pro isn't the best.
Listen, I've owned almost every generation of GoPros for whitewater kayaking, probably 11 GPs. I now have the Insta360 X4. The nice thing about shooting video in 8K is you can pull larger resolution stills from your video frame. I am sold on the Pro 2 and will probably pick one up this winter at some point.
Just hit me... If Mr. DC decides that living in Mallorca is so chill, that he doesn't want to review stuff anymore. What should the world do? Thanks for another great review 🌟
Top video. the action camera that pulls in stats so easy is why i would choose 360 over dji and gopro. Cant wait for your new hoover drone reviews. Your video will make my decision. Hope they release them from customs soon
the "problem" with your reviews is: you don't give a sh..t about their vendors. And we love it. You cannot imagine how many people I met who said: "DC Rainmaker reviewed it - I don't have to think twice as his review is positive!" - that is your image. Please: NEVER EVER CHANGE IT!
Hi really good videos of showing the advantages of each camera, I also think GoPro with Daylight is the most realistic one, but some times facing underexposed or overexposed problem. What I really wonder is, how do ace pro 2 perform in low light with normal mode? I returned my action 5 pro, but during the time when I using it, I much prefer the normal mode of it other than its supernight mode, I wonder if this would happened to Ace pro 2 or you have to use the night mode and that's its best performance, really want to confirm about it.
@DCRainmaker, another good review! A few questions/comments: 1) Did you do a near focus distance to see if they fixed this vs AP1? 2) Can you remove the lens cover? 3) Do they use face detection to expose the face?
Yeah, first I got caught in a nasty thunderstorm trying to film the last bits of my b-roll, hosing my by an hour (and drenching me), and then saldy, my internet has decided it's on vacation today, leaving me with apparently dial-up speeds. A literal example of when it rains it poors. Sigh...
I noticed that too, it just has that slightly bit of more sharpness in some scenarios compared to the other ones. The Ace is really not far off that. Some of the lightning i preferred in the Ace, some i preferred for a dji. (and some day time footage gopro did look more dynamic)
Great review. I was especially interested int eh Ace Pro / Ace Pro 2 comparison as GoPro is dead to me ... they have been bypassed and their [un]reliability is still an issue for me. Thanks again.
Great review as usual. People love to knock GoPro, but for daytime footage it still is very good and most times better. I'm disappointed you're only wearing one watch.
There are so many accessories for GoPro that it is still a major reason that I use them. You can shoot GoPro 13 at -5 or -10 for underwater and retain more highlight too and still see the eyes in the face masks and not loose the detail at the surface areas underwater. Great review as always.
Small note about wind noise test: the ultimate test is when you change directions rather than going straight - so try to make a turn when testing the wind noise, see how much hiss there is. GoPro is insanely good at that, but both DJI and Insta360 are really bad at it.
Few things I like to see if you do a full comparison of all three. Charging time for each. How long they last on a full battery with different resolutions) Weight of them, as I chin mount, weight is very important (and size) Did you use High bit rate option on the DJI, which is available in the latest firmware or when / if doing a comparison to use this.. Also, a big benefit of the DJI is Bluetooth pairing of two DJI Mic's at the same time. Oh lastly like to see MTB and trail running in low light on all three, or even at night with head torches on!..
Thanks for the quick comparison. I'm done with GoPro and will be most likely going with the DJI Osmo Action 5 over the Insta360 Ace Pro 2. The DJI has a smaller form factor -- very important for weight considerations when mounted to a helmet -, seamless integration with the DJI Mic 2 (no adapter required for multiple audio channels, which the ACE Pro 2 needs), 47 gb onboard memory, higher log bit rate for better color grading in post, just to name some of the major differences that have influenced my decision. Looking forward to your more detailed spec comparison (even though I will ignore the GoPro).
Agree, Gopro will not get my next purchase. Bad customer service, to say the least, camera always seems to have issues and the app is a joke. DJI here I come.
The rich features of the Ace Pro 2 make me jealous while I’m using the OA4. I don’t want to switch ecosystems or spend any money on accessories. I wish OA 6 Pro much better next year 🤞🏻
It's funny, I'll show it more in another video, but that's like V6 of that, just found a bunch of totally random things in my office to make it all work.
Thanks for the video. In short, go pro 13 is the winner for correct color but worst for video shooting at night time. Also insta360 ace pro 2 is the winner for other features such as sound, 8k, overlay data, fast charging, flippable monitor,
Its an action camera. Flippable monitor for me its an actual flaw because it makes it more fragile. No 10 bit color rate and less crisp image compared to the other two brands. I already have the gopro 11 so thanks to this video it makes me wanna go buy the action 5. Just mentioning this because all cameras have their flaws.
Excellent review! For my taste the insta360 Ace Pro 2 is MUCH better than the rest: from the resolution, dynamic range and night mode. I have the 1 and it’s already fantastic! @DC Rainmaker : where are those underwater shots? So clear water…
For fun…..it would interesting to compare a gopro,insta360 or any latest model camera to a first generation camera…gopro 1 or 2. Just a side by side vieeo comparison quick video.😊
Excellent review as always! I had to unsub from Authentech after years of clearly sponsored "reviews". I'm a GoPro guy - and very pleased the 13 was actually a step forward again after the downgrade the 12 was - but it is interesting the zoomed in footage doesnt look as good as the other two cameras. First time it didn't have a clear lead over the other options as far as video quality goes
Could you do an actual ISO to ISO noise and low light test? What’s interesting is even the DJI Action 4 could go up to ISO 12800 in standard video mode, higher than this year’s Ace Pro 2 and Hero 13. And now the Action 5 does iso 25600 and an expanded iso in Super Night mode.
Honest question - does getting a camera for review qualify as not sponsored? Are these companies really sending their products to TH-cam reviewers who give a strong negative review?
No, plenty of publications and media outlets get loaner cameras. That’s not a sponsorship, that’s simply a media loaner. Just like it’s been that way for decades before the rise of influencer and paid garbage. I give tons of “bad” reviews.
Correct, but only the new Action 5 can do both wirelessly. Mainly cause it’s not actually using Bluetooth under the covers, but rather basically just replicating a DJI receiver. They do initial pairing via BT, but then handoff to backend wireless instead. Clever.
Do you really not understand the difference? Getting a loaner piece of equipment to have temporarily allowing you to TEST it vs getting free equipment to keep and getting paid (often by Affiliate Link) are two VERY different things. 🤦🏼♂️
You have to be someone that is at least Relevant and can contribute positively to enhance and make cameras better based on your overall tech experience. Yeah basically its that. Relevant content creators can gather all the experience and provide feedback that a brand like insta360 actually applies to their products that's why it's light years ahead of competition. For example dji never updated the dji asteroid for vertical mode. I rather use my insta360 sphere and have all tha 360 flexibility in 5.7k
For underwater mode- Pureview does a better job honestly, especially freshwater (green) and night dives. Night dives with this camera are incredible - and that’s why I went with the first ace pro.
Yup, on the docket. I had the Ace Pro 2 about a month ago, so been collecting tons of side by side footage, was easier to do an Action 5 review after this releases, rather than reshoot all that stuff. Same goes for Hero 4K.
This review are fair enough to this 3 cameras. It's up to you or to me on what action camera are you getting according to your style and content to make. You are the truly Rainmaker. I got the GoPro 13 for MTB, Osmo Action 5 Pro for my music activities and Ace Pro for daily rides. I like the Dash Cam mode on Ace Pro 2. Thank you anyway.
Hi, loved your video and the comparison. Do you know if the ace pro 2 can fit in the underwater housing of the ace pro 1? Without the microphone ofc. On paper the cameras are the same size 🤔 I still have an unused case of the ace pro laying around. Would be great if the ace pro 2 was compatible with not only the "normal" accessories but also the Dive Case.
I am ready to buy one of these 3 latest model cameras. Mainly NOT for night video. To start with, our holiday in Orlando in February/march. As such, which should be best?
Great review. One of thr more honest ones I've seen. Almost every Osmo Action 5 review seems like a paid sponsorship to bash gopro. While this was on the Insta camera nice seeing it's comparison to the others.
For mountain biking and road cycling, which one do you suggest? Stabilization would be important. Also, some trails can have shadows and low light. Do not intend recording at night and also don’t have much time and skills for editing. Thanks
Great comparison, but one question: Was the GoPro on HDR mode too in the section "Active HDR"? I've seen other videos that show GoPro handling hard light situations worse, despite having a HDR mode too.
I'm really curious about this and the DJI for scuba diving. After a bit of depth my GoPro 12 starts to look like a muddy mess, I'm assuming because of the lack of light. I'm hoping the better low light in the Ace Pro 2 and Action 5 Pro would make the diving footage look better.
I have fogging issue on my ace pro 2 i use it as a motovlov and my speed is only 30-kmph normal days I'm from Philippines. Video recording 2.7k frms video duration less than an hour every time the camera heat and there's a wind only mild wind the lens has fog. What should i do?
@@FinnishCaveDiver so I suppose it was a post-processing of the video. Because Insta360 Ace 2 Pro had a limit of 12meters. I was wondering how it does the video correction, like Osmo action 5 pro does, with the pressure sensor.
@@FinnishCaveDiver I will check this video. However, as my personal preference, to use the camera without a housing, so it can be used as a normal camera right after exiting from water without removing the case and losing it while carrying all scuba equipment.
More honest, no conflict of interest, if you did not receive any gifts from the manufacturers whose products you review. True honest restaurant reviewers do not get free meals.
Yeah they really missed the boat with the lack of 5.3k60. THis is the only mode I use on GoPro so that I can use gyroflow and export to 4k without any loss.
I am a first time Action Camera buyer. Need the camera for travel, holiday and family videos. A bit of biking around with family members, but nothing extreme. I don't want the hassle of grading the videos and stuff. However, the camera needs to work decently inside restaurants, cathedrals etc. Which one of these cameras is a good option? Could Action 4 be a good choice too? It is available for a good price now.
Which exact settings did you use on the night comparisons, are they truly equal? Gopro doesn’t have a ‘night mode’ so im curious which iso and color profile you used to make it a reasonable comparisons
For all shots in all my reviews (and also true of other device types like watches/etc...), I always use defaults unless explicitly stated. Thus in this case, I used the PureVideo mode (what Insta360 calls their night mode), and then for DJI I insured it was at 30FPS and that low-light was activating. For GoPro, as I noted in the audio, they don't have a night video mode, so I let it control the settings automatically. While users could theoretically manually force things like ISO/etc, I don't consider that a 'good enough' solution that a user is expected to figure out how to do that at night with changing light conditions. Thus, GoPro fails there.
@@Dcrainmaker ok but now it’s very hard to know how they actually compare. Does default mean max iso was 1600 and shutter on auto? Looks more like lower iso to me, but without that info there is no way to actually compare
How did you find stabilisation and battery life. I record races where I want stabilisation and up to 2 hours using 1080, this is where my older GoPros fall short with battery life
Hi Ray thanks for the review. I have a technical TH-cam question. Re watching to the end. Does that 'work' if I scrub to near the end then let it play? I want to support you but can't always (or don't want to) watch all the way through.
Thanks!!! No, unfortuantely not. Basically TH-cam has a metric called "watch time", and essentially, TH-cam only cares about two things: CTR (Click Through Rate) and Watch Time. But ultimately, it's watch time that wins. If you have a super high CTR, but low watch time, that means you probably have clickbait as a thumbnail/title, but people quickly realize it's a bad video and click away.
Note: Somehow I forgot to mention the price, which is $399USD or $419 with a dual-battery bundle. Doh!
In Europe it's 486,17 USD 😮. With single battery

Thanks Ray! Always can count on you for your honesty!
I love your reviews DC!
Top video. the action camera that pulls in stats so easy is why i would choose 360 over dji and gopro. Cant wait for your new hoover drone reviews. Your video will make my decision. Hope they release them from customs soon
Indeed the sports file connectivity is best in class, so good. As for Hover, still stuck in customs. :(
Great as usual, would love chapters/sections in the video though
the "problem" with your reviews is: you don't give a sh..t about their vendors. And we love it. You cannot imagine how many people I met who said: "DC Rainmaker reviewed it - I don't have to think twice as his review is positive!" - that is your image. Please: NEVER EVER CHANGE IT!
Hell yea
yes we love this
yep I am not even interested in getting an action camera but I come here because of the name DC Rainmaker.
Always love your reviews!
A great video. I'm switching from GoPro. Thanks.
Fantastic video. Any timeframe when you plan on doing an indepth comparison of the 3?
Thanks for the blistering pace review lol. Great job.
Overall, I came hoping to hear 10 bit was available. Maybe the next iteration.
We say thanks to the Universe for you, man) Best and honest "active track" reviewer!❤
@DCRainmaker, another good review!
A few questions/comments:
1) Did you do a near focus distance to see if they fixed this vs AP1?
2) Can you remove the lens cover?
3) Do they use face detection to expose the face?
If only you had got this video out half an hour earlier, I wouldn’t have had to watch two other reviews first!
Sigh...
@@Dcrainmaker Better late than never. Certainly better than the other two reviews I watched (no names - to save the creators' blushes)
Action 5 is interestingly consistently sharper with additional detail in daytime footage shown on your comparisons but didn't see that mentioned.
Sharper but digitally it doesn't look natural.
@@MrWiseinheart Could have fooled me! And it should have been mentioned, none the less.
I noticed that too, it just has that slightly bit of more sharpness in some scenarios compared to the other ones. The Ace is really not far off that. Some of the lightning i preferred in the Ace, some i preferred for a dji. (and some day time footage gopro did look more dynamic)
Great honest review! Thank-you!
Great review. I was especially interested int eh Ace Pro / Ace Pro 2 comparison as GoPro is dead to me ... they have been bypassed and their [un]reliability is still an issue for me. Thanks again.
The only reviewer I trust
Never change, you are the best
Great review as usual. People love to knock GoPro, but for daytime footage it still is very good and most times better. I'm disappointed you're only wearing one watch.
Wait, I thoguht I had two on?!?
There are so many accessories for GoPro that it is still a major reason that I use them. You can shoot GoPro 13 at -5 or -10 for underwater and retain more highlight too and still see the eyes in the face masks and not loose the detail at the surface areas underwater. Great review as always.
Small note about wind noise test: the ultimate test is when you change directions rather than going straight - so try to make a turn when testing the wind noise, see how much hiss there is. GoPro is insanely good at that, but both DJI and Insta360 are really bad at it.
Excellent review! Thank you.
Few things I like to see if you do a full comparison of all three.
Charging time for each.
How long they last on a full battery with different resolutions)
Weight of them, as I chin mount, weight is very important (and size)
Did you use High bit rate option on the DJI, which is available in the latest firmware or when / if doing a comparison to use this..
Also, a big benefit of the DJI is Bluetooth pairing of two DJI Mic's at the same time.
Oh lastly like to see MTB and trail running in low light on all three, or even at night with head torches on!..
It was interesting to hear your take on the underwater footage. Every other review I watched regarding underwater footage goes to the ace pro 2.
As noted, it looks prettier at first glance, but isn't represenative of the scene - and the goggles *very* clearly illustrated that.
A shame you had to cut out that part where you were cycling 96 MPH in a 35 MPH zone...
I know it’s bar far not the same but I would be interested in a comparison to the X4 as well especially in underwater scenarios.
Perfect! My Hero 9 black is showing its age.
I wish OA 6 Pro much better next year 🤞🏻
Thanks for the review. Insta360 and DJI wins way far from GoPro.
Sad to see GoPro is going downhill.
I love your testing rig for 6 cameras.
All in Mallorca (Spanish island). Cheers!
For fun…..it would interesting to compare a gopro,insta360 or any latest model camera to a first generation camera…gopro 1 or 2. Just a side by side vieeo comparison quick video.😊
i like your content NO BS!..👍👍👍
great review 👍 is it possible to add macro lens like gopro ?
Nothing at this time.
@@Dcrainmaker thanks - appreciate your honest content in a sea of click bait fraudsters
@@TopblokeGolf Just my policy to give it back.
At least! Someone told thwt it works with only one DJI mic 2 via Bluetooth. So only DJI cameras can work with two mics simultaneously though.
Correct, but only the new Action 5 can do both wirelessly. Mainly cause it’s not actually using Bluetooth under the covers, but rather basically just replicating a DJI receiver. They do initial pairing via BT, but then handoff to backend wireless instead. Clever.
How does one get a pre release unit if it’s not sponsored? 🤔
Because it's Ray we are talking about here. Even a thumbs down from him is still good publicity for the brand.
Can you show off more of the 8k in action and why you are disappointed in it and they don't recommend it?
love you DC!!!!
Thanks!!!
Cheers so much 😊
360 is simpler to use ❤
You forgot to mention that now the lens cover is removable.
Thanks for being a reviewer not a shill.
For underwater mode- Pureview does a better job honestly, especially freshwater (green) and night dives. Night dives with this camera are incredible - and that’s why I went with the first ace pro.
Interesting - that's something I'll give a whirl!
Are you planing a DJI Osmo 5 review? Sure hope so.
Waiting for that one too :D
Have you tried action 5 and ace2 with low light mode at night, mtb or dash with only your headlights, no city lights?
@@bigshnitzeljesse not yet it’s coming. Thanks
I'll find out. I don't have an Ace Pro UW housing (Ace Pro 1 or Ace Pro 2).
Nice AP2✅
As a IRL live streamer (meaning UVC/RTMP mode). What functions will work? Pure Video? Stabilization? Higher resolutions than 1080p30?
Is there even a single review channel, that specializes in IRL streaming capabilities? Because I haven't seen one. Seems like an untapped niche.
I am ready to buy one of these 3 latest model cameras. Mainly NOT for night video. To start with, our holiday in Orlando in February/march. As such, which should be best?
Thanks for this review. Is the DJI Mic2 working in the Quick Capture Mode or do I have to reconnect it every time I use it?
Great review. One of thr more honest ones I've seen. Almost every Osmo Action 5 review seems like a paid sponsorship to bash gopro. While this was on the Insta camera nice seeing it's comparison to the others.
"Almost every Osmo Action 5 review seems like a paid sponsorship to bash gopro" - because they literally are.
For mountain biking and road cycling, which one do you suggest? Stabilization would be important. Also, some trails can have shadows and low light. Do not intend recording at night and also don’t have much time and skills for editing. Thanks
Thoughts on the insta360 go 3s? do you plan to review that?
Great comparison, but one question: Was the GoPro on HDR mode too in the section "Active HDR"? I've seen other videos that show GoPro handling hard light situations worse, despite having a HDR mode too.
can you test the pause feature let it sit for 3 minutes and see if the audio is out of sync my ace pro does it and I wonder if the problem is fixed
Great reviews. Just wonder why everyone cares about all these stats when they completely color correct during post.
Another great and honest review! Unfortunately, yet another underwhelming camera. This year hasn’t been anything special for action cameras!
I have fogging issue on my ace pro 2 i use it as a motovlov and my speed is only 30-kmph normal days I'm from Philippines. Video recording 2.7k frms video duration less than an hour every time the camera heat and there's a wind only mild wind the lens has fog. What should i do?
Awesome camera, indeed. I am wandering how it behaves below 10meters depth. How the colour correction will work. Probably I might to check it.
For what I've seen it is significantly better than the others at color correction at depth (Ive seen up to 40m)
Critter Hunter youtuber has some footage in his video from 40m
@@FinnishCaveDiver so I suppose it was a post-processing of the video. Because Insta360 Ace 2 Pro had a limit of 12meters. I was wondering how it does the video correction, like Osmo action 5 pro does, with the pressure sensor.
@@SupersonicTraveller he had it in a dive case. In his video its compared to GoPro13 which is next to it
@@FinnishCaveDiver I will check this video. However, as my personal preference, to use the camera without a housing, so it can be used as a normal camera right after exiting from water without removing the case and losing it while carrying all scuba equipment.
VERY well done video ! Also, "If a review requires approval, it's not a review. It's an ad. period."
More honest, no conflict of interest, if you did not receive any gifts from the manufacturers whose products you review. True honest restaurant reviewers do not get free meals.
does it record stereo? Can I use a rode wireless mics?
Yeah they really missed the boat with the lack of 5.3k60. THis is the only mode I use on GoPro so that I can use gyroflow and export to 4k without any loss.
I am a first time Action Camera buyer. Need the camera for travel, holiday and family videos. A bit of biking around with family members, but nothing extreme. I don't want the hassle of grading the videos and stuff. However, the camera needs to work decently inside restaurants, cathedrals etc. Which one of these cameras is a good option? Could Action 4 be a good choice too? It is available for a good price now.
Insta 360 Ace pro
Looks more like lower iso to me, but without that info there is no way to actually compare
thank you so much

Awesome - thanks very much!!!
Can you test the new "endurance mode" for battery life and if ut makes camera less responsive?
Thank you for the underwatershots!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🩵💙
I still can't decide which to get I need the vertical video from the dji, color quality from gopro , mic quality from insta 360
