      No fluff and no ads, just info and facts. I have currently Pocket 3 as my main camera, X4 for 360 shots and H12 for cycling/skiing/climbing. Though I have been thinking of selling H12 and getting something that would fare better in low light. During winter we only have 1-2h of daylight here in Finland. Any suggestions 😅

      The AI starting to have its first real World impacts the biggest change will be ending the drop down menus although the overlay function from phone to camera is amazing all 3 offerings look great but the purpose behind The AI is to take the thinking out of these devices and use them to create the maximum amount of footage possible both raw and in post production so huge improvements in 2024 in particular for GoPro with battery life making some noise to convince buyers to part with some scratch but still no compelling *"AI Wonder"* yet for imaging and sound with the new Apple iPhone camera button the first offer at "let's go backwards with something new to remind everyone how this stuff really works." Verdict: always underwhelms always brings buyer's remorse prepare for moar of both😊😊

    As mentioned by quite a few other folks,… THANK YOU.
    You‘re the only guy by now, that I still fully trust.
    Of course I wasn’t surprised, that some Companies try to influence what is said and shown about their products on YT.
    And this has to be condemned of course. But the ongoing bashing of Brands in Reviews of products by other Brands isn’t helpful at all.
    So,… Thank You for being honest and fair regarding the products.
    As you teased the possibility of another comparison,… I would highly appreciate it. I can’t decide wether to go with the OA5 Pro or the Ace Pro 2. I don’t color correct in the post,… so I‘m just looking for the best out of cam Material regarding picture quality and Sound.
    A big plus would be the Feature of programmable Recording on the OA 5 Pro. For example to capture sunrises. On the other hand I‘m a bit stunned that the mounting of the DJI in comparison to the Insta 360 seems to be a bit loose.
    Anyway,… I‘ll wait with my purchase until your next Video on the cameras.

    Awesome review, as always Ray! If I had to nitpick, it would be to suggest that you keep the orientations of the camera feeds consistent. For example, when you have all three cameras showing, DJI is left, GoPro center, and 360 right. But when you dropped down to just DJI and 360, you swapped them left to right, example at 2:20. Maybe it's just me, but it took a bit in my mind to "switch" the two streams.

    I know you cannot compare the Ace Pro with the Insta360 X3/4 but I rarely use my 360 camera now due to the amount of effort it takes in post production. Doubt the Ace pro will interest me. @@thejjtp yes as a YTuber I can edit hours of regular action camera video to minutes in a few hours but with the 360 it’s an extra step to go through the footage and frame the shot you want and then save it as a USABLE video clip. @@BobBroekinggot to give a shout-out for the insta360 studio app to edit 360 footage. It’s as easy as it can be really, but I’m also guilty of having loads of unedited footage from it. It has saved me in a pinch though when something happens off camera and the 360 has come to the rescue capturing it, albeit in quality only good enough to view on a phone screen 🤣

    • @BobBroeking
      @BobBroeking หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@FFTuk That is right if it happens around you the 350 will capture it. I have been using the PC studio to do my editing but maybe the app is slightly easier… I have learned not to shoot “hours” of 360 footage but rather snippets when something interesting may happen in my videos. Otherwise just too much to process. I can go through hours of my POV action camera footage pretty efficiently and no post processing required.

    • @FFTuk
      @FFTuk หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@BobBroeking exactly, short bursts of footage or interesting shots that can only be created with 360 cameras are cool. Long format is always a pain to sort through. The PC based and mobile device versions are pretty similar, but strangely I don’t think you can add soundtracks to the footage in the Pc version in the studio software which people get really annoyed with

    Splendid review and overview. I'm still using my phone for action footage due largely to the excellent mounts I've found, which lets the multiple phone sensors show their value and versatility.
    That said, my favorite webcam is a 4K action cam with a very capable USB webcam mode that, when combined with tools like OBS Studio, lets me dynamically crop the wide view as desired. For example, for various reasons my 3D printer is in the field of view behind me. I can create a separate stream for the printer that allows me to monitor it remotely without needing a dedicated camera. All while keeping the main portrait stream going for things like Zoom.
    The notion of feeding OBS an 8K view is very tempting!

    Interesting to hear that strong wind noise on the DJI, i've seen other tests (from Dale Stone) and wind noise was basically non-existent.

      Yup, after looking/hearing that clip, I went back to other clips I've recorded over the last while, and once the wind/ground speed hits about 30-35KPH, it kicks in pretty clearly on the Action 5 Pro. Fine at lower speeds.

    They had me at having the same sensor as my Action 5 Pro. They lost me at still 8-bit video. Having 13.5 stops of dynamic range and neutering it to 8-bit is properly maddening. It's like they built a McLaren but then made it only able to hold a single passenger that's shorter than 5 foot 6. Yes, it's technically usable, but you're unnecessarily neutering its full capacity.

    • @ruicosta3396
      @ruicosta3396 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It's more like building a McLaren but then limiting it to 50hp. And they even have the audacity to put a log profile in it. What's the point of having log if it shoots in 8-bit and you can't retrieve any detail afterwards? That's actually sad because otherwise it would be a great camera.

    • @lemdemar6054
      @lemdemar6054 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Dynamic range has nothing to do with 8-bit or 10-bit color space. If that was true, why does the action 5 pro captures less details/textures than the ace pro 2? Lol.

    • @ruicosta3396
      @ruicosta3396 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@lemdemar6054 Wrong! DR has everything to do with 8bit vs 10bit and here's why: the entire point of having 13.5 stops of DR is post production. You can recover a lot more highlight and shadow detail with such high DR, ultimately producing a better final rendering. But if you try to do that with 8bit files, you'll end up with A LOT of colour banding. That would be minimised by using 10bit because you would be starting with a lot more colour information.
      Regarding the comparison of Action 5 Pro vs Ace Pro 2: you're just proving our point because the footage you're talking about is the 8bit footage. Even the Action 4 is better in normal 8bit footage than the 5 Pro. All the cameras mentioned use active HDR and try to fit all the information into an 8bit file. The Action 4 and Ace Pro 2 are better at that conversion. The 5 Pro advantage is that it has much better 10bit footage than the 4 due to the higher dynamic range and by editing, applying LUTs, etc. you can end up with the style of image you like, instead of the one the manufacturer chose.

    • @lemdemar6054
      @lemdemar6054 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@ruicosta3396 from all the research I’ve done. We’re both right and wrong. Lol. Dynamic range is not directly related to color depth. So Im right regarding that. Meaning the ace pro 2 is capable of capturing 13.5 stops of dynamic range. You’re right that once you go in post and push the image to the darkest and brightest, it will start to have banding. But, how many of the user base do you think is gonna do that? Even those who bought the action 5 pro for having 10-bit. Also with the amount of videos I watched. What good is the 10 bit if the action 5 pro captures/renders less details and highlights than the ace pro 2, which cannot be recovered in post. Also it doesnt matter how much color space you have, you’re not editing that ugly conshaped lens flare out of the video. That’s one of the reasons why I went with the ace pro 2.

    • @ruicosta3396
      @ruicosta3396 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@lemdemar6054 I think you are missing the point. We know what DR is. One is related to the other because in order to use all that DR to our advantage, we need 10bit color depth. You would be surprised at how many content creators use these cameras and shoot in 10bit.
      But the point you are missing the most is that when you say the footage from the Ace Pro 2 is better, you are comparing 8bit footage from both cameras. In order to do a proper comparison you should put the 8bit footage from Ace Pro 2 against properly edited 10bit footage from the Action 5 Pro, because the thing with the 5 Pro is that I don't have to rely on the camera to have great image quality from the start. I can take all that information and make it a lot better image in post. And yes, the normal 8bit video from the Action 5 Pro isn't the best.

The DJI has a smaller form factor -- very important for weight considerations when mounted to a helmet -, seamless integration with the DJI Mic 2 (no adapter required for multiple audio channels, which the ACE Pro 2 needs), 47 gb onboard memory, higher log bit rate for better color grading in post, just to name some of the major differences that have influenced my decision. I'm a GoPro guy - and very pleased the 13 was actually a step forward again after the downgrade the 12 was - but it is interesting the zoomed in footage doesnt look as good as the other two cameras. First time it didn't have a clear lead over the other options as far as video quality goes

    Could you do an actual ISO to ISO noise and low light test?
    What’s interesting is even the DJI Action 4 could go up to ISO 12800 in standard video mode, higher than this year’s Ace Pro 2 and Hero 13.
    And now the Action 5 does iso 25600 and an expanded iso in Super Night mode.

      No, plenty of publications and media outlets get loaner cameras. That’s not a sponsorship, that’s simply a media loaner. Just like it’s been that way for decades before the rise of influencer and paid garbage. I give tons of “bad” reviews.

      Correct, but only the new Action 5 can do both wirelessly. Mainly cause it’s not actually using Bluetooth under the covers, but rather basically just replicating a DJI receiver. They do initial pairing via BT, but then handoff to backend wireless instead. Clever.

      Yeah basically its that.
      Relevant content creators can gather all the experience and provide feedback that a brand like insta360 actually applies to their products that's why it's light years ahead of competition.
      For example dji never updated the dji asteroid for vertical mode.

    Which exact settings did you use on the night comparisons, are they truly equal? Gopro doesn’t have a ‘night mode’ so im curious which iso and color profile you used to make it a reasonable comparisons

    • @Dcrainmaker
      @Dcrainmaker  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      For all shots in all my reviews (and also true of other device types like watches/etc...), I always use defaults unless explicitly stated. Thus in this case, I used the PureVideo mode (what Insta360 calls their night mode), and then for DJI I insured it was at 30FPS and that low-light was activating. For GoPro, as I noted in the audio, they don't have a night video mode, so I let it control the settings automatically. While users could theoretically manually force things like ISO/etc, I don't consider that a 'good enough' solution that a user is expected to figure out how to do that at night with changing light conditions. Thus, GoPro fails there.

      @ShaggyFPV หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Dcrainmaker ok but now it’s very hard to know how they actually compare. Does default mean max iso was 1600 and shutter on auto? Looks more like lower iso to me, but without that info there is no way to actually compare

    • @Dcrainmaker
      @Dcrainmaker  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks!!! No, unfortuantely not. Basically TH-cam has a metric called "watch time", and essentially, TH-cam only cares about two things: CTR (Click Through Rate) and Watch Time. But ultimately, it's watch time that wins. If you have a super high CTR, but low watch time, that means you probably have clickbait as a thumbnail/title, but people quickly realize it's a bad video and click away.
