I’ve started following you because youre literally the only creator in this niche that talks about camera quality keeping it real. Thank you so much. I was thinking of maybe getting an ace pro 2 for some car shots, but i guess I’ll keep using my action 4 and insta360 x4 for now. Matching the footage (or at least get as close as possible) to a professional camera is an absolute must for my use case scenario. I shoot a lot of videos for clients with sony fx series cameras. The pocket 3 has become my go to gimbal camera lately (so i can run and gun everything and still have a gimbal in my pocket for some shots). I’ve literally started a new project with a client where we need a lot of footage where he’s driving, and since we have to be as mobile as possible action cameras are exactly what we need. I’ve just tested out yesterday the 360 on the hood and the action 4 inside. Haven’t even had time to review the footage yet haha. But thank you for sharing that the ilog isn’t mature at all, highly appreciated! 🤗
Sometimes when mounting the Ace Pro 2 the flip screen is trapped and you can't see it or you may not want it up and not having a forward facing screen is a problem. It's nice being able to see the front screen and make adjustments with the DJI camera without having to remove it from my helmet. I also like having the smaller DJI camera for action sports. Nice video as always Tamara.
Love my Action 4. Use it on my motorcycle daily with the Mic 2. I literally just leave it on auto most of the time day and night other than just adding ND filter during the day, looks great and I always get compliments on quality.
@@Sixbagzz Im looking for the exact same setup sir. How good are the voice commands through the DJI 2/OA5 to operate the camera in such situations? It is important decider for me. Insta360 voice commands are crap on my x4 and go3.
Awesome comparison video ❤ it!. I picked up the DJI Action 5 Pro based on your previous videos and it arrived the day the Ace Pro 2 was announced. Good to see the differences for each cam highlighted here in your video.
I have seen many comparisons, but yours accurately highlighted how the AP2's internal mics can distort the voice, making it sound a bit robotic and phone-like. Thanks.
I picked up the Ace Pro 2, but it didn't blow me away. Since I use the Pocket 3 and DJI Mic 2's, I'm thinking about returning it for the Action 5. The one thing that is keeping me from doing so is the audio quality straight out of the Ace Pro 2. I will primarily use an action cam on the beach, in or near water where I wouldn't want to bother with, nor would I have a place to clip (no shirt) a wireless mic. In this situation, I want to be able to bring 1 camera for snorkeling/water sports and also a beach vlog. I can see myself taking the wind guard off, going snorkeling, drying the camera off and putting the wind guard back on and doing a beach vlog. I may have to get over the fact that I actually like the look of the Action 5 and don't mind color grading, even though it does look a bit oversharpened.
Another excellent presentation, Tamara. I have an Action 3, and can't afford to upgrade, but were I doing so I would have been helped a lot by this, which was interesting to watch anyway.
Thanks for this comparison review. I feel like I'm leaning towards getting the Action 5 pro. In my opinion like a better all rounder for both casual and hardcore Action cam users.
Thanks for another great video 👍. I am new to using these types of cameras. I do photography and usually in manual mode. I bought the action 5 pro a few weeks ago, mainly for making videos when I'm cycling, walking or on holiday. I haven't really used the camera yet. I always find these types of comparison videos difficult, because I haven't seen or know the environment that is being filmed myself. I bought the action 5 pro because of the internal storage, energy consumption.
Being a hiking channel in windy conditions the mic cover on the Ace Pro 2 is really appealing, the flip screen would assist with lining up the composition on tripod shots. As I have the Insta360 x4 , the colour science should be similar too. 🤔 Really don’t think your viewers will notice the difference with only being 8 bit either.
Cannot buy the ace Pro 2 in Canada through Amazon or Best buy since its release could only buy it directly from insta360 and their return policy seems to have some serious flaws because they required that it be in the box and unopened and be returned within 15 days in order to get a refund. How are we supposed to find out if we like the camera or not if we can't take it out of the box?
For the convenience of "pick up the camera and get good footage" for me being a Dad, wanting to capture those special moments of my kiddos today that I can watch later in life, the Ace Pro 2 is the clear choice for me! EXCEPT, the close up shots of people (you or potentially me with my kiddos) are more out of focus on the Ace Pro 2. Seriously, look at the comparison at 0:36. I literally love how the Ace Pro 2 looks more "natural" (to my Dad eyes), the internal audio is better, and the overall look/convenience is just... better than A5P. Except the darn out of focus! Which is super important for my wants/needs. I was ready to pull the trigger until I saw someone else comment about the "out of focus" issue so I wanted to double check for myself. Now there's not a clear winner so I'm stuck on deciding which one (any and all cameras to consider for my wants/needs) to get :(
Cycling! I wanted long battery life, backup storage, smaller size. Since I gohere was a huge discount with the Adventure pack, I got the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro. The Insta360 Ace Pro 2 has a lot of advantages , but not what I wanted. Hopefully feedback will force DJI to do a firmware fix for the HDR.
I have used GoPro for more than a decade to film my fishing trips, but I am looking to change to one of these two. I generally use the camera's auto settings and point-and-shoot, often from a head or chest mount, so audio straight out of the camera is important to me. The GoPro Media Mod worked fine for this. It appears the Ace Pro 2 will be my best fit for what I shoot - with my only concern being the extra size and weight ....
Just need n chin mounted cam for motorcycling. For insurance purposes and capturing random/nice moments on my ride. I love riding at night, never really need to film myself, not really into colour grading/post processing footage myself. So the ace pro 2 sounds perfect for me, love the base colour setting of the AP2 and especially the ease of use as well. Only con is the battery life and the potential over sharpness, but I'll have to play around with the endurance mode and sharpness settings.
Excellent video comparing the two cameras. About two weeks ago, I purchased the Osmo Action 5 Pro. I already have the DJI mics, so it made sense to buy the Action 5. I have the Go Pro 12, but I prefer the Action 5. I most likely will give the GoPro 12 to my daughter. I used Action 5 a bit last week to record my jet-black working-line German Shepherd, which I posted on another channel. I really enjoy your channel since your reviews are in-depth.
It almost looks like the Ace Pro 2 is out of focus, when it comes to the sharpness in "selfie" situation, because the background looks sharper than the person. The camera is very close to the subject and the aperture is f/2.6, higher than Osmo, so the depth of field will be smaller/narrower than with Osmo Action. It would be interesting to show how close the Ace Pro can focus to eliminate my suspicion.
Does it have the ability to display time stamp of date/time during recording or playback? I really enjoy watching my old home videos from when i was a kid and seeing a date/time and would like the same as I use the camera to create my own home videos for my child. Or is there another camera you recommend for this? Ideally I’d want pause recording and timestamp display
Thank you for your work! I'm still undecided because I won't do much color grading, but battery and size (and price) are what I like about the Action 5... Also I'm used to the app from my original Osmo Pocket 1. The better internal mic and the "point and shoot" settings of the Insta are why I'm still undecided. What you mentioned about the sharpness of the Insta was also very helpful. Thank you for showing "normal" low light, such indoor scenarios are why I'm interested in that (children's birthdays and such 😅). Maybe I'll try to get a black Friday deal on an Action 4 until the HDR look has been fixed...
Perfect example of how one camera will work well for one situation over another 🙌🏾 I can imagine having the AP2 on my motorcycle helmet will feel weightier than the OA5, but for holding the camera and vlogging, it’s pretty much negligible. It just depends on use case.
I was waiting for the Ace pro 2 and will get it, I love the free frame mode in my go3s. Sold my Osmo Pocket 3, just did not use it as much. So I guess the AP2 is a better companion for the funny Go3s. And I also don’t have to much time to edit so with the insta360 app everything is much easier 😜 And also do not really vlog… use it more for hikes, night stars timelaps and pets, so I guess I’m fine with my choise 😊
@@babyboy1971 yes I did, I just did not use it that much. And I guess the OP3 will be happier with the new owner. I just love the free frame mode so much that having to film everything twice was not for me… I am kind of lazy that way 😜🤣
Nice comparison thank you! The insta 360 feels like a really good vlogging cam as well as action footage… and that flip up screen solves the problems I’m having with recording on my phone!
leaning towards the DJI. I’m using it for vlogs. i’ve been enjoying color grading and I like to travel so i want that clarity. i’ve been using the osmo pocket 2 & i want that step up in quality.
Is it possible to record or take pictures without touching the action 5? I know there's a blue tooth remote, but was wondering if there was another way without purchasing that Bluetooth remote?
Finally, the comparison we needed. I'm leaning toward the Acepro 2 for the overall look, but DJI is hanging in there-just not so great in low light and sharpness. Also, what's up with the DJI lens flares? I don't think Action 4 had that issue
The pause recording and discard recording features on the Ace Pro 2 are nice. The latter I would use. I don't like the look of the Ace Pro 2 footage, but it's way better than the weirdness from the Action 5. Of the two I would go Ace Pro 2. Free choice I would save £100 and buy the Action 4.
@Fishycomics mentioned the action 5 pro C-type door was loose. It opens when you push it without pressing the button. The same thing happened on my dji 5. Do you also have such a problem? I wanted to ask if it could be a chronic problem.
Nice comparison. I got the A5P and I’m wondering what’s better to use, hlg or dlog m? Also with dlog m, do you use color recovery on or off. And on the Mimo app there is a color recovery button, is that the official DJI Lut for the color profile? As for as color grading I’m willing to do a 1 click but nothing more, that’s why I’m asking. Thanks in advance, keep up the great work.
With D-Log M, the colour recovery in the camera doesn’t bake the conversion into the footage, it’s just giving you an idea of what the footage will look like when converted. In the Mimo app though when editing (not while previewing the footage during recording) DJI does have a conversion LUT that you can apply to the footage, so that could work for you if you mainly edit in the Mimo app. But if you also edit in a desktop editor you can download DJI’s conversion LUT as a quick conversion too.
My favorite thing about the Action 5 is that I can quickly convert and edit Dlog footage right in the Mimo app and it looks great and it’s fun to tweak. Same on my pocket 3. I can get the footage to almost match and it’s a breeze. The action 5 and pocket 3 are an awesome combo.
First of all this is one of your best videos! Well done! I like the new ace pro 2, but not fully convinced yet due to the sharpness. Still wondering what are the best settings for different situations and maybe insta360 can fix this soon with a firmware update?
The 50% that the ace pro offers did make a difference Ohh also love your work fact that you take your time and provide such details is refreshing & educational 😊
I already own an OA4, and I'm planning to get another action cam, but i can't decide to get the OA5 or just get another OA4 at a discounted price. I don't see a lot of difference with the OA5, and i don't like the Ace Pro 2. Tough decision 😅
Hi Tamara, I am still thinking about choosing one of these. It is a bummer to see the DJI5 doesn't show the clouds natural. My question to you , do you know if there is a different option for the DJI5 to make the clouds as detailed as the AcePro 2 ?
Exactly like what I was thinking, actually every action camera is great, for certain features and depends on what your style is. It feels not fair to compare each pro & cons and diminishing the other, it kills the market. For me, (my 1 cent opinion) Ace = vlogging, DJI = underwater & hiking, Gopro = extreme sports such MTB, skateboard, surfing, Gopro 4K & Pocket 3 = socmed content I'm having the OA4 & GP4K2024 and not even a youtuber, a vlogger, a reviewer, or a "cinematic filmmaker". Just a normal dad recording his son growing up. Give a boring people like me the chance to enjoy videography without the setting headaches 😂
What about if you're using these cameras for what they're actually built for? As action cameras. Motorcycle riding, snowboarding, racing, diving, etc? Too much of this sphere of tech is about ego boosting and having one's face in a camera and not about capturing action. What about the accessories, the warranty, the service, etc?
If you want to know about services and the warranty, you can read about all that on the website. I'm interested about showing people how a camera actually performs when they USE it. I vlog, other people vlog, the cameras can be used for vlogging. You sound salty.
Great compariso video. I was wondering which action camera would fit my use case the best which is mostly me running and biking in picturesque places with only about 10% walking vlogs. Would a 360 degree camera be a better fit instead?
That would depend on whether you would want to spend the time reframing your shots in the edit from a 360 camera, or if you want to edit as easily as possible with the quickest workflow possible.
What are the best settings for the A5 Pro so that my video quality doesn't come out so muddy. My videos make me look like I am a painting or something, and it looks so awful. Even in a well lit room, I look muddy. If you could please let me know, i would really appreciate it! Amazing content as always!
People keep saying that the internal storage is important in case you forget you memory card. Why would you remove your memory card From your camera? I transfer my videos or photos by connecting the camera straight to the computer, it’s easier than removing the memory plug it in your computer, removing it from your computer then put it in back in your camera. When you can just plug a cable from your camera to your computer. Internal Storage is important because you have more storage to shoot.

No problem. Glad the video helped 😊
@@MainJet158 when using the Ace Pro 2 attached to my helmet, I use the phone as a viewer on the handlebar
Love my Action 4. Use it on my motorcycle daily with the Mic 2. I literally just leave it on auto most of the time day and night other than just adding ND filter during the day, looks great and I always get compliments on quality.
@@Sixbagzz where do you put the mic?
@@whatthefitt inside my helmet front of mouth with magnet and I use a stick on metal thing that you use for the back of cell phones.
@@Sixbagzz Im looking for the exact same setup sir. How good are the voice commands through the DJI 2/OA5 to operate the camera in such situations? It is important decider for me. Insta360 voice commands are crap on my x4 and go3.
@ it’s good. Just get DJi.
Thanks, Jim. Hope you’re well 😊
At 0:33 you can already see that the Ace Pro is a bit out of focus!! Even at medium sharpness 19:34
I agree
Yes. seen it a lot on others reviews, but no1 say anything. Payed off.
And total hollywood color profile
FINALLY the review I was looking for.
Interesting as always Tamara, i love the fact that you give us your opnion too as you got great taste and knowledge when it comes to this kinda stuff
Thank you ☺️
@@TamaraGabrielUK Your welcome, gotta take my hat of to you always lol
You are an incredible reviewer. So thorough and engaging at the same time. Do you do all your editing and research on your own?
Thanks 😊 Yeah, I don’t have a team it’s just me.
Thank you, Tamara, you’ve been my guide in choosing my first Action Cam. It’s funny that so few people talk about GoPro these days.
Really don’t think your viewers will notice the difference with only being 8 bit either.
Now there's not a clear winner so I'm stuck on deciding which one (any and all cameras to consider for my wants/needs) to get :(
A wonderfully clear video setting out the pros and cons of both. Thank you Tamara.
Thanks for a comprehensive and informative video and most importantly you kept it interesting the whole time. A great video.
I’m waiting so long comparison between them! Thank you 👍🏾 you are doing a good job💯🎉
Ace Pro 2. I don’t like these trumpet flares of the Action 5 pro when shooting evening/night
There’s been a recent update to adjust the sharpness so it doesn’t appear so harsh in Medium.
@TamaraGabrielUK oh that's awesome, thanks for the heads up!
Look at 15:51, the color on the face......
What happens if Insta360 enables i-Log at 10-bit?😁👍
I think the form factor is a big difference too. DJI actions are smaller and take less space.
Very thorough review.
Ace Pro 2 is a bit chunky for things like a hat mount for fishing, but the OA5 Pro is darn near perfect if size is an issue 😁
And I also don’t have to much time to edit so with the insta360 app everything is much easier 😜
And also do not really vlog… use it more for hikes, night stars timelaps and pets, so I guess I’m fine with my choise 😊
You sold your pocket 3? I love mine so much I’m selling my ZV1 to buy another Pocket! Whatever makes you happy though, the Go3S is awesome.
@@babyboy1971 yes I did, I just did not use it that much. And I guess the OP3 will be happier with the new owner.
I just love the free frame mode so much that having to film everything twice was not for me… I am kind of lazy that way 😜🤣
@iangel23 It’s not laziness, it’s convenience 😉
@@TamaraGabrielUK exactly!!! 👍 👏
Hey, just wanted to say love your video,s so informative and with the right level of detail. Thanks.
Nice comparison thank you! The insta 360 feels like a really good vlogging cam as well as action footage… and that flip up screen solves the problems I’m having with recording on my phone!
For noise and jittery eis on low light
Which one is better?
Ace Pro 2 handles jitters much better.
@ is the action 5 pro can prevent jitter with ninja wak?
A gimbal will prevent the jitters.
Great in depth review
What was your setup to shoot the sofa scene?
Sony A7s III shot in Slog 3 and graded in FilmConvert Nitrate. The lens was the Sony 16-35mm F/2.8 GM. I had a couple of lights on as well.
Great video! I’m getting an OA5 because it’s smaller, lighter, and I think the subject tracking is great for what I will use the camera for.
leaning towards the DJI. I’m using it for vlogs. i’ve been enjoying color grading and I like to travel so i want that clarity. i’ve been using the osmo pocket 2 & i want that step up in quality.
i have both except dji mic, but why audio quality on OA5 with dji mic is better than AP2 with dji mic?
maybe i should swicth to another mic like rode
thanks for including the action 4 footage it was helpful and it looks good as well ....hard to choose
Thank You for the review Lady very honest .
Viewing on my 4k TV I prefer the 360 image .
I will be buying the Insta 360 Ace Pro 2 😉👍
Thanks so much for the video, have already order insta360 ace pro 2 and dji mic 2 but I'm not sure I will get clean audio sounds when doing asmr video
Is it possible to record or take pictures without touching the action 5? I know there's a blue tooth remote, but was wondering if there was another way without purchasing that Bluetooth remote?
It has voice control.
I really wanna know what camera you use for filming yourself at home
Sony A7s III with Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 GM. Shot in Slog3, graded with FilmConvert Nitrate.
@@TamaraGabrielUKthank you so much I couldn’t find this answer anywhere else.
Hi very nice video presentation, which one do you think has the best white balance true to life, and best skin tone?
Hi. Thanks! Best white balance, I would say Action 5. Best skin tones (for me) I would say Ace Pro 2.
Great video!! Since latest firmware, does Action5 (or any GoPro infact) have pause recording feature like insta360 ace pro?
Nope

: Is it overall, that the Acepro2 has issue with image quality ( if compared with A5 ).....or only the front facing camera when vlogging...?
Nice video, thank you. I got the Ace Pro 2 and love it. Watching from Arizona. Btw, back in the day I used to live in Swindon 😊
First of all this is one of your best videos! Well done! I like the new ace pro 2, but not fully convinced yet due to the sharpness. Still wondering what are the best settings for different situations and maybe insta360 can fix this soon with a firmware update?
Have you tried High sharpness?
Thank you ☺️ Let’s see what firmwares are released as time goes on.
The 50% that the ace pro offers did make a difference
Ohh also love your work fact that you take your time and provide such details is refreshing & educational 😊
Is there a new Osmo Action 5 firmware update? I got an email from DJI implying there is. I’d be very interested in your thoughts on the new features.
6:25, ap2 also can connect to mic2 via Bluetooth is it?
Does the A5 enable exporting the internal storage to SD card like the Action 2 can do?
For SOOC video, which one would you prefer? The OA4, OA5 or ACE 2? Many thanks.
Super nice that i found you ! great videos! question: do you think the ACTION 5 PRO is good for IRL project ? thanks a lot!
Yes, either camera would.
Which onboard mic do you find to be better quality? Audio is a huge deal to me as well. Bigger than image quality.
Ace Pro 2
@@TamaraGabrielUK thank you! and great video!
Exactly like what I was thinking, actually every action camera is great, for certain features and depends on what your style is. It feels not fair to compare each pro & cons and diminishing the other, it kills the market. For me, (my 1 cent opinion)
Ace = vlogging,
DJI = underwater & hiking,
Gopro = extreme sports such MTB, skateboard, surfing,
Gopro 4K & Pocket 3 = socmed content
I'm having the OA4 & GP4K2024 and not even a youtuber, a vlogger, a reviewer, or a "cinematic filmmaker". Just a normal dad recording his son growing up. Give a boring people like me the chance to enjoy videography without the setting headaches 😂
I think that on the AP2, the white balance needs to be adjusted before filming.
@@TamaraGabrielUK That's a fair point to consider with 360 degree cameras, guess an action camera will work better for me ..cheers!
What are the best settings for the A5 Pro so that my video quality doesn't come out so muddy. My videos make me look like I am a painting or something, and it looks so awful. Even in a well lit room, I look muddy. If you could please let me know, i would really appreciate it! Amazing content as always!
Are you shooting in the Normal colour profile?
@TamaraGabrielUK so currently, I am in the Normal 10Bit, and at other times, I am in D-Log M 10Bit.
Yeah, as I mentioned, I personally won’t be using the Normal colour profile because it just doesn’t look right. I’d only shoot in D-Log M for now.
@TamaraGabrielUK thank you so much for your help and guidance 🙏🏾 keep up the amazing work😊
People keep saying that the internal storage is important in case you forget you memory card.
Best comparison I’ve watched! Thank you 🙏🏻
