Hey mate, very insightful watching someone else pull a tranny out of a Pathfinder. I too am the R&R guy at a transmission shop here in Australia. I’ve done 3-4 now (one of which was a Murano) I too found the RH axle seized in the carrier bearing. I don’t have an air hammer, so proceeded to unbolt the carrier bearing with the axle. I left the rear exhaust manifold attached and just dropped the cat beneath it. I also have removed the battery and ECU/TCM each time, which I won’t be doing next time. Thank you again for the insight and tips!
I am doing one of these now. I was about half way through getting it out and couldn't figure out what to do with those tranny mounts. This answered my question. Pull the subframe. Thank you!
I really appreciated this video, not a lot of info online regarding the CVT replacement. I left the passenger axle and transfer case attached to the engine as someone else here mentioned. Also I was able to leave exhaust manifold attached. Did this on stands in my home garage. Thanks for a great video!
What is up with these Pathfinder CVTs? Im looking at one that had replaced a little more than year ago(think he did a used one with 1 yr warranty) and its out ago 3 months out of warranty so he is selling cheap instead of replacing it again. Assuming he got a used one last time since only cane with a yr warranty? Does that sound right? And did Nissan solve any problems they had with the cvts so if i install a new one it should last?
I don’t think they made many improvements to this model transmission But we generally install new and there’s programming that goes along with that so maybe the program is supposed to improve things. If it’s only three months out of warranty I would Imagine he would give you some sort of break on the cost of replacing it again.
Older video but can anyone say if a 2017 unit can work in a 2013 car, much cheaper used and supposedly better design, the tcm from the donor car also is said to be needed.
Some Nissans have a stud on the torque converter that makes it so you can only put it one way or 180 the other way but if there’s no extra studs you don’t have to worry about it some fly wheels only have two holes for the extra studs and you have to time them kind of for those holes

This is pretty similar to a Nissan Murano AWD as well. I've never thought to take the exhaust manifold off before. I was always afraid of breaking bolts off so I've stayed away from that. Have you ever broken exhaust manifold bolts off in the engine when doing these transmission swaps?
You couldn’t remove transmission along with the Transfer case together and then separate them once it’s on the ground that way you avoid extra work on exhaust manifold… ?
I just dropped my qx60 off today to see if the transmission is going. We are easy on it but it sometimes doesn’t want to go when on a hill, when you hit the gas to go. I hope the shop my car is at knows what they are in for and know how to program. I don’t mind a lil >$6k. Hopefully they can do that with a new trans. Where do you get your trans from. Awesome work

I can’t imagine how you would do this job without a Lift I’m sorry. I can’t imagine it would be easy enough to lift the body of the car off of the engine and transmission. You have a shot a lift in the body high enough to drop the sub frame and pull the transmission.

I would do the way I did in video if you have a good tranny jack
@@doingstuffwithdylan4367 i do have a transmission jack. Thanks so much again for the prompt response
Finally finished the job! This video was extremely helpful. The Right Axle seized up very similar to this video and took the longest time and lots of heat to take it out! The only missing part of the video is programing the new transmission's valve body characteristics that can be easily done with a capable scanner. Thanks again for such good content!
