Dropped my 16 Altima following these exact steps! Everything went smooth except the torque converter got stuck on plate had to pry it out with force. Thank you! Great instructor 👍🏻
Doing my 2018 Nissan Altima rn but im only changing the torque converter. When i put it in gear it kills the motor. If i push the car while started it drives good and shifts good. Payed just over 200 for torque converter so i figured i watch your video amdnsee what all meeds to come off. Im going to try not to drop sun fram because i only need enough room to change the torque converter. Hopefully it works and i dont have to drop everything
I doubt you’re going to get the torque converter out without removing the engine completely. Do you wanna make sure you don’t do damage to the pump inside the transmission?
Definitely subscribed. Did this in my driveway on a 2013 Altima. This video was super helpful, pointing out the bigger things. Question about the programming. I got a reman’d unit straight from Nissan. It came with a disc for programming. I know I can’t do the programming on my own, but I’m wondering if attempting to run the car with the new unit in will damage anything? Like am I going to have to just tow it to the shop, or get a mobile guy out?
hello my friend, Great video, I have a concern I plan on putting a used transmission on mine, will I need to reprogram if I put a used transmission on mine? If I don't reprogram could I have issues with it?
@@doingstuffwithdylan4367 thank you my friend I already have the transmission in, I just have to refill it with trans fluid tomorrow hopefully no issues, thank you
IS there a guide on programming these ? I just purchased a new transmission from Nissan for an 18 Altima today and will be installing it tomorrow. I have the disc for programming it. Can it be done on the computer ? Or do you need a scan tool to connect to the car and the computer ? Thanks in advance
Why did you purchase a new transmission from Nissan ,but not let them install it ? Assume Nissan Dealer will charge too to replace it, then you will try to do it by yourself or by a cheaper mechanic . Can you tell how much a new CVT transmission for this Altima model ,or where did you buy it directly from ?
I’m doing this currently on my Mom’s car, I got a new torque converter for a 2014 and the trans for a 2016, I have everything lined up but the studs for the converter are barely a thread in the fly wheel, what did you do to bring the torque converter closer to the flywheel?
Probably need to unmate the transmission some of these converters have a little studs on them where they don’t belong that caused the converter to not come all the way against the flywheel it may even be in the video
This is what I have. A 2014 model with a 2016 transmission. Everything fit in perfect, but the starter won't engage the plate. Did you have this problem by any chance?
Someone incorrectly installed just one small diameter hose onto the external oil cooler that's bolted to the CVT. One hose is not supposed to connect to both small ports on the cooler as you demonstrated during the CVT removal. One hose is supposed to go to the CVT fluid cooler inside the radiator and another hose to return from the radiator to the cooler. This might be the reason this CVT failed. If it came this way from the factory.........
Some of those transmissions just have a small hose, but if there’s hoses coming from the radiator, they definitely need to be connected to that cooler.
@@doingstuffwithdylan4367 Hey Dylan, I'm surprised and pleased that you responded after a month with no other comments. Do you recall if the radiator on that 2016 Altima had a CVT fluid cooler inside it? It should have had one when the car was brand new. Great video btw. I'm a DIY mechanic. The only thing stopping me from attempting a transaxle swap is a hoist and your tools LOL!
Did you need to reprogram or reset the transmission? Im replacing a customer transmission and am on my second transmission now both time I tried using original and the modules that came with the used transmission and still not changing gears properly. Any help would be appreciated
Isn't there a stand pipe in the transmission pan? Remove the plug, fill from top and run car till around 114ish fluid temp and when the pan fluid is trickling out of plug hole reinstall drain plug and ship it...after programing of course
Do you think we can remove/swap it from top at home ? as we don't have a host to lift whole car up . and it we can do from top , may not need to remove Sub-frame ?
Not duty removing the axle but maybe because we remove the sub frame the steering wheel straight when you’re done and you don’t need to align it if the steering wheels off, you might need to adjust the sub frame or rack
@@doingstuffwithdylan4367 Thank you. My 73-year-old husband hopes to complete this job in our driveway in 4-5 half days. The car is up on jack stands. Your video is excellent, very helpful.

Good deal. Thanks for the comment!!

I’m glad it was helpful. Sometimes that happens with studded torque converters especially glad you got through it.

We have a program in Guy come to us, and it could definitely ruin your warranty if you drive it without programming

You can use a computer, but you need a pass through of some sort and it takes special software I’m not sure if it’s available to the public or not
You’ll probably have to call the guy who does automotive programming. Let him know what you’re doing first

Is it more than likely a swap will need to be programmed or not needed if you.swap with the same year transmission?
I’m guessing no if it works, it works as long as you can get the codes to clear
Buy used it comes with Tcm no program need
Hello, I have a 2014 Nissan Altima and sooner or later I’m going to need another transmission. Do you know how much a job like this cost?
A reman CVT from Nissan costs $2800. Labor varies from $2000 to $3500 depending on dealership or independent mechanic.
I’m guessing between 35 and $4500
Over here can’t separate the engine and transmission turns out because I didn’t remove that transmission mount from the bottom!
The video help thanks for the comment

If you’re using a used one, good luck, we use new ones
We get them programmed

Some of them too, but I’m not sure about this one. I normally include the fill information in the video.
No stand pipe in this CVT. The 5th gen Altima has an overflow plug above the drain plug.
My type of vids!!!
Thanks!!
Do you remember how many hours this job called for by chance?
Join, sir
No sir sorry. I guess 6-8
@@doingstuffwithdylan4367 no problem, thx! I went ahead and quoted 6 for it.
@doingstuffwithdylan4367 I'm not looking forward to doing it... lol

I can’t picture it working
I made ir work it was kinda a pain with the side mount but made it work👍
Dose need realignment after removing the cv axle?

Not sure.
I thought I was the only one who carries while wrenching. What's wrong with the Trans Am back there?
Always carry. 😊
It needs transmission work. Thanks for the comment!
Could not have said it better myself!
I wish i was this mechanically inclined to do on my own my Altima transmission is trash but somehow its at 152k and still holding on
Glad it’s still going.
How long did it take you to swap transmissions?
4-5 hrs

Wait what
What is the name of the connector u are removing at 6:55-7:00
Speed sensors and then the main transmission plug
@@doingstuffwithdylan4367 is it supposed to be loose ? Do u have a email or something I can send u a video? Really need your help
There should be a metal clip holding the connector from going down into transmission
I’m emailing u right now . Check messages
How much does it cost to install it
I’m not sure they do all that stuff upfront

We buy them directly from Nissan. I’m guessing between 1200 and $1500 American.

We get them from a Nissan dealership here in ohio
I see Nissan is making Junk
They are number one in the worst tranmission in all the car companies!!
About right. Sad
